Start up: black background white type

Here's the rundown: I have a 15 inch Aluminum Powerbook G4 that came with Tiger. My lower memory slot failed to recognize the memory present. I had Apple Care fix it. I am not sure what they did, but when I turned on the PB (Powerbook) the first time (after the repair), here's what happened: (1) standard startup chime, (2) grey screen with Apple logo, (3) instead of the little "gear" spinning around, I got a black screen with white old-school-looking computer languag: white writing that shows a ton of commands. The first lines read...
standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us

From there, it goes on to several more lines (hundreds?) describing, well... I am not sure. I took some photos of the screen while it was loading (and could take more b/c the problem continues), so I could provide more of the writing on the screen. Also, my PB does this black screen/white writing on shutdown, but does not read the same way as above.
My problem is that my computer never did this before! I do not know what it is doing, but it seems like some sort of hidden background language that is loading and SHOWING instead of the "gear" at startup. If any person(s) have info on this issue, I would sure appreciate some insight.
By the way, I called Apple Care about this issue and they recommended an "Archive and Install." I did this, and it did not change anything; same thing on startup AND shutdown. Please... HELP! Thank you, all.

Wow, just as you were typing your response, I was in the midst of already doing what you were in the process of writing! Thank you for replying, though. Honestly, thank you! Here's what I posed in another question I had about this issue:
I figured out how to turn off Verbose Mode. Be careful when doing it! The link to the website is...
http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/h/348
Here's what I did to turn it OFF:
1. Opened program "Terminal" (Applications > Utilities > Terminal)
2. Copied and pasted in the command given in the website to turn Verbose Mode ON (yes, ON). Pressed Return key.
3. Typed the admin. access password (as defined by you, the administrator). Pressed Return key.
4. Copied and pasted in the command given in the website to turn Verbose Mode OFF. Pressed Return key.
5. Closed Terminal
6. Restarted my computer.
* Verbose Mode OFF!
Note: During the Restart process the Verbose Mode still showed up, but upon starting up, it was OFF, back to showing the little spinning gear under the Apple (gray/grey screen).
Hope this helps others!

  • Mac Mini 2014 Boots With Black Background/White Apple

Mac Mini Specs: 2014 Model with 2.6GHz processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD, Intel Iris Graphics, Mini-Display Port to DVI adapter with Dell monitor
Issue: When booting the Mac Mini up it goes through a very standard Yosemite boot but the background is black and the apple and progress bar are both white.  The issue is entirely cosmetic in nature and doesn't seem to have any negative effects.  What I normally expect and have seen in 30+ macs upgraded to Yosemite is the same loading but with a grey screen.  It's worth noting that I have noticed this issue on 2 iMac 2010s that had been upgraded to Yosemite that belonged to some friends, but their issues were intermittent or fixed.
    Steps Taken:
Updated from 10.10 to 10.10.1 and installed all other available updates
Checked the Start-up Manager, Recovery, and Internet Recovery.  All have black backgrounds and internet recovery's globe is small then normal.
    Reset SMC and NVRAM
    Tested Safe Boot
    Erase and Reinstall OS X
    Removed all peripherals except monitor
Tested another monitor and DVI cable
    Tested HDMI without the adapter
Replaced Mac Mini with new Mac Mini
    Questions:
    1. Have you seen this issue before and what are the specs of the device it occurred on? (OS, Model, Year)
    2. I wonder if this might be expected but can't find anything to reference that it would be and didn't get any answers even when asking people at the store or over the phone.  Have you seen any articles/pages that talk about this issue?
    3. Can you think of anything else to try and resolve this?

This is normal for the newer machines running Yosemite. There's nothing wrong.

  • Webdynpro on loading shows a black and white type of screen

    Hi Gurus.
Don't know if anyone had this problem before.
Some of your webdynpros on running show a black & white type of screen with no background colors. Buttons are visible, but clicking on them nothing will happen. I don't know if you all understood what I am saying. Unfortunately I cannot attach screen shot
Basically the background becomes all white. No groups in blue color. No table lines.
It happens only intermittently, user refreshes, and it gets okay.
Anyone faced this problem before? If so, any solutions found for it?
    Thanks in adv.

    Hi Aishi,
the only other time I've seen something like this, has been when I've been messing around with the portal theme  (in that particular case I was trying to apply the portal theme to a BSP which had been called dynamically in the app and was not therefore correctly picking up the theme .)
That said - the problem was never intermittent for me then - either it worked or it didn't!
I'd be trying to find a way in which you could replicate the issue, (potentially clear all the cookies local files etc from a user's machine) and then putting a program like HTTPWatch on to check if there were issues picking up any particular files in the user's request.
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • Black background/white writing

    Hi there,
Just wondered if anyone knows of a phone that has a black background with white writing on all parts of the phone? Most phones at the moment have the facility to change it but the texts normally come up with white background/black writing.
It's basically for someone who has trouble with their sight, and I'm just trying to find a suitable phone for them. If anyone knows of any downloads either, that would be great.
    Thank you for your help!
    Clara

An S60 phone with the appropriate theme should do the trick.
Take a look at http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/matrix_all_1.html and filter on S60 devices, and you'll get a list of suitable phones.
As for themes, there are loads of them to download. Some of the best are available from http://taiebthemes.com - another place is http://www.zedge.net where you can even design your own theme.

  • Entering Type/Copy - Red Background/White Type

I don't understand.  I'm getting a red background when entering type/copy in my photoshop file.  See below.
No matter what I do I can't seem to get rid of the red background/layer.  In addition, when I do add copy it only can add it in white.  When I try to change the color to black.  It says I can't do this because of a program error.  When I exit it asks to commit to a layer or not.
What am I doing wrong.  It was not doing this before while building this file.
    Regards..Rick

Looks like you're in an adjustment layer.
What happens if you use ESC key?  Or simply use History panel to back out of whatever you did.

  • How to make the black background white or change the resolution?

    Hello!
I would like to make an iPhone Video Screencast. The screencast itself is done with 320x480, and now, I would like to import it to Final Cut. There are 2 problems I have to cope with:
    1.
If I am importing my video, final cut is showing me (or filling the blank, not proportional space) black spaces to hold the 4:3 / or 16:9 proportion. Is it possible to make this black area just white? (the website I want to integrate my video is white)
    2.
Is is possible to use other resolutions than 4:3 or 16:9 like thos appropriate for iphone screencasts: 320x480?
    thx
    alex

    Yes, it is possible.
Create a new sequence, and then click anywhere on the blank timeline and type Command - 0 {zero} to bring up the sequence settings, which you can set to what you want:

  • Enforcing black background / white text on websites

GOAL: Have consistent web browsing experience with generally dark-colors, without white-flashes. Minor bugs and quirks are fine.
Is there anybody who has tried to achieve this? Any success? What software do you use?
I currently use chromium with Deluminate extension. Resulting colors are good, however, white flashes occur when clicking links (etc) and it's killing me. I would switch browser without hesitation if there was a way to do this nicely. Any help/advice/tips?

I have similar question not for web browser but the os. I use zion (reversed) colour sheme (system settings > apps looks or how it is named in english > colour > zion (reversed), i changed two options because on white screen text was black and window was black so i was not able to see antyhing that i typed in. Now i have black window with red fonts and it works, but on some occasion not all webistes work that well and sometimes i have websites that are white, and fonts when typing are still not visible because of colour scheme.
1 - webpage that does not allow me to see what i type in because text is black and window is black
2 - the same webpage, text is only visible not when typing in but when i highlight it:
3 - and how it should look on webistes, for archforum is an example, because i see what i type. Window is black but text is red, so i see it :
I would like to know what to change to being able to see what i type in or choose (when there are java or flash content) on all of webpages.

  • Help.  Somehow my toddler reversed the display on our macbook pro.  Documents are now black with white type.  Photos look like negatives.  I have tried to undo this but I don't know how!

If anyone knows how to undo this, I would greatly appreciate it.  Clearly I am outsmarted by a 2 year old!

Maybe your child likes "negative-image" ... who are you to judge?

  • PowerBook starts up in black and white

My PowerBook G4 is starting up in black and white instead of color. I'm running System 10.3.4. All the display settings are set for color. When I startup from the install disk the display is color. I've tried re-installing the system, but it still starts in black and white.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Try going to System Preferences/Universal access/Seeing - and switching the black on white settings.

  • Computer boots to black and white Darwin/BSD Screen

My iMac is running 10.4.11. While trying to edit user permissions for local networking, I made a huge mistake. I started changing a permission and realized in the middle that I had messed up. I quickly reset the launcher, and then reset the computer. when the computer was rebooting, It went directly to the darwin screen (black background white letters). I found a thread that gave me hope but ultimately did not solve the problem.
Booting to Darwin/BSD Screen (this is the like to the entire thread)
every thing worked as the article said it would until the end...
"Start up in Single User Mode and type carefully:
    /sbin/fsck -y
Repeat the above until it says your disk is OK. Then:
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    cd /var/db/netinfo
    mv local.nidb/ local.nidb.bad
    ls -ln /Users
This last command will give you one line for each user, plus one for the "Shared" directory, which doesn't interest us. Each user will have a line like one of these:
    <pre>
    drwxr-xr-x 20 501 501 680 Jul 16 14:32 D. A. Hankerson
    drwx------  8 501 80  272 Jul 17 19:18 D.A. Hankerson
</pre>The second numeric field (501, 500) is the user ID (UID) and you need to list the uids against the shortname s given in the final column. Make sure you get the name right for UID 501! Then continue with
    reboot
When you restart, you should get the Setup Assistant, just as if it was a new machine. You will be prompted for all of your user information. Be careful to use the same short name as previously for user 501." kind of confusing where to retype the user short name... in darwin or setup assistant
I followed all the steps then completed the Setup Assistant and just when it looked like problem solved, I was still sent back to the darwin screen.
Following the setup assistant only made more user accounts. the setup also would not allow me to input "." and " " (periods and spaces) as the article says.
    Please help!
*Green text represents information specific to my machine.

While in the B/W desktop go to the System/Accessability preference pane and check to see if this checkbox is selected:
If it isn't toggle it on and then off again and see if there's any change.

  • MS Word (Mac) to Acrobat Pro XI pdf loses black background during the conversion.

I need to email a PDF with an all black background (white text on black background).  But my MacBook Pro with MS Office 2011 creates an Adobe Acrobat Pro XI document (Using PRINT menu to Adobe Acrobat) in which the background is not black, but gray.  Doesn't matter what resolution I pick, always the same result.  Is there a way to fix this problem?

    Hello,
No, there is no change in behaviour on my Windows XP machines, nor would I expect there to be given that there has been no change until V11.0.3 was released.
Given that you’ve reproduced the problem, albeit on a different machine, it seems reasonable to assume that the problem is related to Acrobat. If you can reproduce the behaviour, then you should be able to fix it.
The problem still exists with V11.0.3. I look forward to it being resolved shortly.
    Colin.

  • Splitting text from black to white in the middle of a paragraph

Googled and found a solution but it wasn't great.
Basically I have a body of text and I want some to be overlayed over a white background (black text) then in the middle of the paragraph be overlayed onto black background (white text). Some of the backgrounds cut through the middle of the letters which is where the difficultly comes in.
Basically a setting which makes the text re-active to whats placed underneath.
    Thanks
    Russ

Also, you can get black only output if the document CMYK profile has a maximum black generation, and that might work if there isn't critical color on the page or you are working in black and white. So here the document profile has a maximum black generation, followed by default SWOP and you can see the difference in Sep Preview output:

  • White lines of code on black background upon starting up

I recently sent my Macbook in due to problems with the screen going dark for no reason. Upon recieving the laptop back, I noticed problems upon starting. When I restart my laptop, there are white lines of code on a black background. I called in to support, but my support expired and here I am searching for help. They told me that I needed to try and reset my drivers, or my HDD is bad. To reset my drivers they gave me a combination of keys to press upon restarting, but I don't remember the combination of keys. I have repaired my disk using the install CD, but still am having problems.
It's crazy that I send my laptop in and get it back with other problems... Any help is appreciated becuase Apple surely isn't helping.
Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Core Duo w/ Bootcamp

Turn the computer off. Wait one minute. Restart. If you are still booting into single-user mode (black screen with white print) then at the prompt enter:
    reboot
Then press return. If this does not start you up into OS X then there's a system problem. You will need to reinstall OS X. You can do this using the Archive and Install option that does not require you to erase the hard drive. Your old system will be archived in a Previous System Folder at the root of the hard drive.
Before performing the Archive and Install you should do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then quit DU and return to the installer. Now proceed with the OS X installation.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
