Starting a JVM on remote machine

Hi all,
I would like to be able to start a JVM from machine A on machine B. Machine B could be running at another location so I'm not able to start the VM using the command line.
I know you could start a telnet session from A to B and start the process manually but I would like to be able to start the process on machine B using code running on machine A.
Has anybody ever done somthing like this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,

Hi,
Thanks for reading my post.
Somebody pointed me to RMI and rmid to fix my problem and indeed I think I could use this to initiate a java process on a remote machine without the need to actually sit at that machine.
I'm following the tutorial at http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/csg/java/1.3docs/guide/rmi/activation/activation.1.html but I keep getting the same error :
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: examples/activation/Setup
All classes including stub and skeleton are located at : j:/app/prj/activation/classes
This is how I start the Setup :
C:\>J:\app\lib\j2sdk-1.3.1_06\bin\java -Djava.security.policy=j:/app/prj/activation/policy -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=file:///j:/app/prj/activation/classes/ examples.activation.Setup
Is there anyone who can help me with this?
Kind regards,

  • OSB 10gR3 - Starting Managed server on remote machine

    I have 2 Windows 2003 Enterprise machines.
    I have OSB 10gR3 installed on both with Node Manager running on default port, on both.
    I create the servicebustutorial domain and start the admin server on the first machine.
    On the second machine, I use the WLST to
    <ul><li>connect('weblogic','password','t3://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7001') # connect to admin server on first machine
    </li>
    <li>nmEnroll('c:/bea/wlserver_10.3/common/nodemanager') # make node manager visible
    </li>
    <li>nmEnroll('c:/bea/user_projects/domains/servicebustutorial') # enroll in the servicebustutorial</li>
    </ul>
    Now, I don't know if this is the correct thing to do.
    Back on the first machine, I create a new machine to represent the second Windows box.
    I can see the node manager on the second machine using the machine monitoring page.
    I then create a new server that is assigned to the new machine.
    I can attempt to start the new server on the second machine.
    The Server directory appears in the servers directory on the second windows box.
    Log files appear on the second box but the config.xml is not there, and thus, the server fails to start.
    I would have thought that the server config would have propogated from the admin server, is this a wrong assumption?
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks, in advance.
    ...Lyall

    Thanks for replying.
    I login as a local administrator on the machine that WebLogic runs. All operations are performed using that login (starting admin server, starting node manager).
    I changed permissions on C:\BEA, all the way down, localadmin group has full control, everywhere.
    I tried changing nodemanager C:\bea\wlserver_10.3\common\nodemanager\nodemanager.properties LogLevel to DEBUG but then NodeManager refuses to start, so I returned it back to INFO.
    I set debug on the Managed Server I am trying to setup, as you suggested.
    I even updated the NodeManager and Server boot.properties files to be cleartext and Deleted the LDAP directory within the Managed Server (as I assume it's re-created if it does not exist)
    Wow, heaps comes out, but the following may be relevant.
    In particular, this single line, causes concern.

    I think your problem is here: Caused By: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: allocLargeObjectOrArray: [Ljava/lang/Object;, size 782611408
    And is probably related to this: http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openjpa-dev/201006.mbox/%3C26423199.85161276545675046.JavaMail.jira@thor%3E
    the comment in here is saying: Make the CacheMarshallerImpl a bit more tolerant to different configurations.
    Could be the out of memory error you getting is related to your openjpa configuration, not sure here

  • Start Lync 2010 client on remote machine

    I have a couple of users who like to logout of their Lync 2010 client. They apparently think that they are being watched through this program.  This is a bit of a hassle since we use this program to see if users are sitting at their desk.
    I am trying to write a .bat file to automatically kill the communicator process and then restart the program on the remote machine.  I am having nothing but success with killing the communicator process using pskill.  When attempting to start the
    client using psexec, however, it will not work.
    It will start a new communicator.exe process on the remote computer just fine.  It doesn't seem to actually start the program though.  There is no icon in the taskbar showing the program is running and communication with the user does not work
    as it still shows them offline.
    On the local machine (the one I am running from), I just use a bat file that calls another .bat file on the remote machine.  The .bat file on the remote machine kills all communicator.exe processes using pskill -t.  It then attempts to start a
    new communicator session using "start communicator /fromrunkey"  This will start a new communicator.exe process on the remote computer without any problems. That's all it will do though.
    Anybody have any suggestions on what I can do to make it actually launch the client on the remote computer?  I have exhausted all options I can come up with.  I would like to get this working so the users in question finally figure out that if
    they logout of Lync it is going to just start back up on them.  Hopefully after time they will catch on and stop logging out of the program.

    Have we tried giving the complete location of the communicator.exe
    "start c:/.../communicator.exe /fromrunkey
    Using the same script are you able to open Notepad.exe on the remote machine just for testing

    How can i do it?

  • Transfer of file to a shared folder on remote machine

    Hi,
    I want to transfer a file present on windows machine A to a shared folder (\\16.192.54.56\Test) on machine B having ip as 16.192.54.56, using java.
    I tried using the renameTo api of File class but its not helping. It gives permission denied exception. I am able to open the shared folder from machine A using the shared folder path (\\16.192.54.56\Test) through the run command. So, that means there is no permission issue on the shared folder.
    Could anybody please guide me as to how can i resolve this issue.
    ~Brij

    Hi,
    Please pardon me for not providing the complete information.
    I have kind of root caused the issue. Let me explain the issue in detail.
    I have a logic to move a file to a shared folder on remote machine, inside my application running on a different machine. Now when i run my application using
    command prompt, the logic of moving the file to the shared folder works fine.
            try
                File fDest = new File(""\\\\15.154.52.100\\TestDir\\test");
                File fSrc = File.createTempFile("testExport", "txt");
               final int BUFFER = 2048;
               InputStream in = new FileInputStream(fSrc);
               OutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(fDest);
               // Transfer bytes from in to out
               byte[] buf = new byte[BUFFER];
              int len;
              while ( (len = in.read(buf)) > 0)
                  out.write(buf, 0, len);
              in.close();
             out.close();
             fSrc.delete())
            catch (Exception ex)
                ex.printStackTrace();
    {code}
    But when i run my application as a windows service, the logic does not work.
    I noticed that when we run our application as windows service, the owner of JVM is System and it looks like it will not have Network access permission.
    But, when we run our application through command prompt or as a standalone application, then the owner will be the user who started the application. This user will have the Network access permission.
    Please correct me if the above assumption is correct. If this is the case then how can i make my application (running as windows service), to have network access permission.

    Sorry, missed the message from the errorlog in the original post. You shouldn't have included that big .Net dump that hid the important facts. :-)
    My first Google attempt on that message (which I have never seen before) suggests that the TCP Enpoint is stopped, so try this:
    ALTER ENDPOINT [TSQL Default TCP]

    Is this music purchased back in DRM days? I don't actually have any iTunes music so I can't test with my iTunes 7.5, but I know that without iTunes 10 you cannot even connect to the store anymore.  I wouldn't think that would require an active connection to the store all the time, otherwise how could you play music on a computer in the middle of nowhere?  Did you do something to trigger iTunes suddenly wanting to connect and check on machine authorization?

  • How to test oracle is up and running in remote machine using shell script

    Hello,
    I need help to write an linux script.
    I have a java application server running on machine 192.168.5.20 and our oracle 10g standard 1.0.2 is running on machine 192.168.5.21.
    I have found script to start oracle when computer is turned on.
    But I cannot start my application server automatically since it depends on whether oracle is up and running or not on the remote machine.
    Therefore, in case of power failure or maintenance, our client has to call us to start application server.
    I would be grateful if someone can help me "How can I write script to check oracle is up and running in machine 192.168.5.21 from machine 192.168.5.20.
    For your information, I have no oracle installed in application server. So tnsping won't work.
    What I want is when power is back, application server script automatically and tesing for oracle server is up and running. If it is up, script will start application server.
    Thanking you.

    Hi,
    It's not failover or experimental. My application server uses JBOSS and JBOSS needs database name to start up. My enviroment is LAN. My database is in different machine as I mentioned before. So In case of power failure, I need to start my application server (JBoss) manually, because I need to confirm that oracle is already running before start app server.
    I want an automated script (when power is just on) to start my application server which will wait to check if the datbase server is up I will start application server.
    The scripts given above It works if appserver and db server in the same machine (my development machine).
    But when I test the script in my production applicaiton server, It shows sqlplus command not found (my app server does not have any oracle client installed).
    About hostname yes My applicaiton server hostname is hostapp1 and dabase server hostname is hostdat1.
    Do you think Is it possible to test the script without oracle client not installed. or It has to be done writing code like java program and test using jdbc connection.
    Best regards.

  • How to make OTM scripts to run on remote machines

    Hi,
    I came across lot of posts which tells how to configure OTM to connect to remote machines.
    Some how i dont understand when they say stop the OATS service and configure it manually
    Also to use the password for authentication manager.
    What i really want to know is step by step for a layman to set up OTM to run scripts on a remote desktop and on the local with the execution being displayed (not suppressed)
    How do we configure that?
    Any help is deeply appreciated!! my test cases are just stuck inprogress status
    Thanks
    Radhika

    Hi Radhika,
    For running Scripts from either the server or the remote machine using OTM you need to run the Agent Manager service as a console not the OATS service. For that you need to stop that service--> set the startup type as manual--> the run the ' C:\OracleATS\agentmanager\bin\AgentManagerService.exe –c AgentManagerService.conf ' command in the CMD to run this service as a console. Because this agent manager service is for OLT to communicate with its agents and works fine even if it is set to automatic or manual and started normally. Hope this helps.....

    I have two machines, One cluster and two managed servers (one on each machine) created under a domain. I have used configuration wizard to create the domain.
    I have gone through documents on Node Manager and found what to configure. But I have not found when to configure. In other words I want to know what is the sequence of steps if I have to set Node Manager on my local machine (in which domain exists) and on remote machine.
    Please let me know the sequence of steps I need to follow to set and configure the Node Manager on local and remote machine. I want to use Java Node Manager (not the Script node manager).
    Thanks,
    Sanjay

    Hello,
    Ok, let me tell you what I have done till now.
    1) Installed WebLogic 10.3 on machine A (local machine, on which I have created domain and my Admin Server is running. Also Managed Server 1 is created on this machine).
    2) Installed WebLogic 10.3 on machine B (remote machine, on which Managed Server 2 will be created).
    3) On machine A I used the configuration wizard and create a domain. While creating the domain I did the following:
    i) Created two managed servers.
    ii) Created a cluster
    iii) Assigned Servers to cluster.
    iv) Created two machines.
    v) Assigned servers to machines (Admin Server and MS_1 to machine A and MS_2 to machine B).
    4) Sarted Admin Server.
    5) On the Admin Console I made some configurations for the Node Manager on Machines -> Machine A -> Node Manager. Assigned the values:
    i) Type (SSL)
    ii) Listen Address (IP_Address of machine A)
    iii) Listen Port (5556)
    6) Similarly did for Machine B.
    So till now phsically the managed server (MS_2) directory and configuration is not there on Machine B (its only configured on machine A because I created the domain on Machine A).
    Now I want install/configure/setup NM on both the machines. Start my both the managed servers using Admin Console (which will use the node managers).
    What are the sequence of steps I need to follow my task?
    Any help and suggestions are welcome with warm regards.
    Thanks,
    Sanjay

  • Checking for running applications on remote machines

    I am trying to check for application running on remote machine - it could be LV or some other application.
    I have Server and Client applications (developed in LV) running as .exe on separate computers. Only LV-Runtime is installed. They exchange data via Datasockets. The problem I have is that if Client is launched before the server the (Client) takes ownership of certain sockets which causes Server to fail on startup. All the remote Clients have to be shotdown before Server can be started again properly.
    I was wondering if anyone has run into a similar problem.

    Hi Slawek,
    I would suggest using Remote Front Panels in LabVIEW. Remote front panels allow you to view and control a VI front panel remotely, either from within LabVIEW or from within a web browser, by connecting to the LabVIEW built-in web server. There is a tutorial Developer Zone: Remote Panels in LabVIEW -- Distributed Application Development that will provide you with more information.
    Also, there are example programs in LabVIEW that walk you through how to programmatically connect to a remote front panel. Go to LabVIEW >> Help >> Find Examples >> Networking >> General >> RemotePanelMethods-Client/Server.vi.
    Hope
    this helps and good luck!

  • Unable to connect to WMI (r) on remote machine "SCCMCLIENT03"

    Hi!
    I'm in the process of configuring the XP firewall to support the Client Push installation method that SCCM offers. At the moment I'm quite happy with the result. The SCCM client agents are installed properly on my reference machines.
    To secure that the WMI functionality is up and running I have (prior to the client agent installation) run wbemtest with following parameter (from server to client, and vice versa):
    \\host\root\cimv2
    I successfully contacted that specific namespace on both ends. But when I trace the log I find the following error which still indicates that something is wrong:
    CWmi::Connect(): ConnectServer(Namespace) failed. - 0x8004100e SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER 2009-03-10 11:12:14 1704 (0x06A8)

    Why do I get this? What am I missing here? I got the feeling of WMI functioning the way it should.
    Any hints on this one?
    In an MSDN-article (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa389286(VS.85).aspx) I read the following lines:
    "If the user account that is on Computer A is not an administrator on Computer B, but the user account has Remote Enable permission on Computer B"
    Those lines are part of an article which describes how to configure Remote administrations properly. For that to work, does the computer account of my Central Site Server has to be part of the local administrators group on every client?
    Regards,
    Fredrik

  • IBM DB2 9.7 Express-C instalation on remote machine

    Hi guys,
    I'm trying to install IBM DB2 9.7 Express-C on a remote machine that does not have xorg installed.
    I've managed to enable forwarding X over ssh (tested on xeyes), but when i start db2setup, it doesn't do anything.
    Output in console is this:
    user@remotemachine$ ./db2setup
    DBI1190I db2setup is preparing the DB2 Setup wizard which will guide
    you through the program setup process. Please wait.
    DBI1160I Non-root install is being performed.
    If i login with root then the output is basically same:
    user@remotemachine$./db2setup
    DBI1190I db2setup is preparing the DB2 Setup wizard which will guide
    you through the program setup process. Please wait.
    I'm running latest arch with xfce4 with slim for starting DE.
    Can anybody give me some poiners on how to install this?

    Can anybody provide me solution for this
    I also tried with java.util.Properties class but result is same.

    You are running on Windows 9x or Me, right? The darn OS has 300 or so bytes allocated for environment by default.
    Try setting the Initial environment to 4096 in the Properties|Memory tab for the batch file. That will get rid of "Out of environment space". The syntax error is another matter; Windows (except NT and derivatives) shells do not allow '=' in an environment variables value. You cannot overcome that. Some software (Sybase for instance) interprets # as = just because of that. Unfortunately, the JVM doesn't take such an approach.
    Better, grab copies of Unix utilities for Windows (www.gnu.org) including the wonderful shell 'bash' and write .sh scripts, which are inherently more powerful.
