Starting an app without the console

Hei all
I have a simple question. I've built an application that i want to start as a "background process" (mainly run under windows so i dont want any console window, only an entry in Processes in Task Manager).
I call my app like this:
javaw -classpath .;myjLibs.jar MySocketApp Short application description:
A background program that work as a proxy on some ports. If some spesial message is sent i will open a swing JFrame window to fill in some extra info before it is passed on.
All this seems to be fine, but i still get a console window even i use javaw. It does not do anything.. I can even close it and it is still fine to run my app. I just wished it could be done automatically..
Any idea's out there ? =)
Regards
Erik

You can put a meta-inf/Manifest.mf into your jar with both main-class and classpath. The following worked for me, where I had library jars in a lib/ directory with my jar. You then only need to doubleclick the jar.
Manifest-Version: 1.0
Ant-Version: Apache Ant 1.6.2
Created-By: 1.5.0_02-b09 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)
Main-Class: org.esperanto.Main
Class-Path: lib/jaxen-core.jar lib/jaxen-jdom.jar lib/jdom.jar lib/saxpath.jar lib/jmf.jar

  • Start X11.app without xinerama

    Hi All,
Does anybody know how to start X11.app without the xinerama option in Xquartz?
Do I need to change the .xinitrc and how?
Thank you in advance for the help.
    G5 Biproc 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Java applications will only work if the classpath is set properly. Thus if you double-click on a JAR (or something else associated with Java) you might find that nothing seems to happen. Usually it'll open a DOS windows, start Java, chuck an Error and close the window quickly.
This doesn't mean that you should go round setting the system classpath to get all your applications to run - that's a recipe for disaster!
Sometimes it's best just to create a new shortcut for your application, specifying the full Java command for running your application and click on that:
javaw.exe -cp [your classpath here] MyMainClass
    or
javaw.exe -cp [your classpath here] -jar MyMainJar.jar
If the classpath gets long, though, this won't work 'cos Windows will only allow a certain length for the shortcut. You'll have to use an external file to list the classpath contents then. I doubt this will affect you yet, however.
    Hope this helps.

    Lyall,
You are corect that you only need the compiled TUXCONFIG file on the
master machine, the boot process will propagate it to the other machines.
I am unclear as to what your problem is now, where is the boot failing?
Are there any errors in the ULOG file on the master machine, or the
    other machine?
The tlisten process must be started manually (or via UNIX startup
scripts) the tmboot brings up application servers. This application
boot process that may require the tlisten to be running in advance.
There is no way that the boot process "thinks it is starting the tlisten"
Please post some more information about what your current problem is!

    Peter.

I am still having difficulty. (Linux unix in case you are wondering)
The admin console thinks it is ok starting the master (cos it thinks it is starting
the tlisten process when I know one is already running)
    [tuxadm@PACEMid1 poc]$ ps -fae | grep tlisten
    tuxadm 14653 1 0 18:10 pts/10 00:00:00 tlisten -l //PACEMid1:12344
    tuxadm 14799 11238 0 18:29 pts/10 00:00:00 grep tlisten
    [tuxadm@PACEMid1 poc]$
It also thinks that it is not running on the second machine and so, fails to start
up the second machine. I know the tlisten is running on the second machine.
    [tuxadm@PACEMid2 poc]$ ps -afe | grep tlisten
    tuxadm 2891 1 0 08:51 pts/8 00:00:00 tlisten -l //PACEMid2:12344
    tuxadm 2954 1111 0 09:04 pts/8 00:00:00 grep tlisten
    [tuxadm@PACEMid2 poc]$
The admin console shows the full configuration (wonderful stuff really)
My config file has been updated now that I understand the difference between NADDR
and NLSADDR (maybe some synonyms in these config files that are more intuitive
    would be helpful!)
I have only shown what I understand to be the relevant networking entries here.

    In summary:
I seem to be in control of the master machine by default since it gives the impression
it is starting it's own tlisten process (which I am unable to find).
I am not in control of the second machine.
I have compiled the Config file on the master machine only (it does not exist
on the second machine), I gather that it will be replicated to the second machine.

How do I install apps without the  app store

This is an issue not to be taken lightly. I just upgraded to Mavericks. My two favorite amateur radio apps will not launch because they did not come from the App Store. There must be a way to make them work. Come on, let's have it. Ohh, the apps: DVTool for DStar Radio operation, and echomac for amateur radio repeater connection from a Mac. These are essential amateur radio applications used in emergency radio communications ... ARES.

You will need a Mac, with OS X 10.6+ on it, to be able to develop iOS apps.

    2. Reinstall Apps using ICloud backup service.

  • Unlock an ipad app without the already purchased option

Does anyone know how to unlock an iPad app without the already purchased option?

Or do you mean how do you unhide an app? You hide apps from the purchased tab so I am taking a guess here.
    Unhide Purchases on iPad
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
Depending on the content type, open the App Store, iBooks, or iTunes Store on your device.
Scroll to the bottom of the main page.
If you're not already signed in, tap Sign In.
Tap your Apple ID name, then tap View Account.
Scroll down on the Account pane, and tap Hidden Purchases.
Locate the item you would like to unhide then tap the Unhide button.

  • How do I start my MacBook without the Battery Installed

My battery has started to Bulge and I am having the usual problems I have read about with this issue, the trackpad isn't working, premature shutdown, etc. I am living thousands of miles away from an Apple Store so I have given the battery to a friend to either get replaced or buy a new one. In the mean time I want to use the MBP without the battery. How do you start the MBP without the battery being installed?
I know there will be a reduction in performance but I am not worried about that at the moment as I need some of the info of my hard disk. It can't run any slower than it is at the moment, it's dead.

Kappy Thanks I have started it again. I actually found this thread and tried it yesterday before my question but nothing worked. I left the computer uplugged over night and thought I had nothing to lose so I tried it agian this morning and it actually worked this time. I only had to use the Restart (Control-Command-Power) option not the SMC reset. Leaving the power disconnected must have cleared something somewhere.
    Thanks again.

  • Starting mail.app in the faded out-mode???

I configuered my account to start mail.app faded out, but starting tiger, the main windows appears in the front. All other apps are okay.
I remember, I had this problem in an earlier version, but an update repaired it. Waiting and waiting for an update, but nothing happens.
Has anybody an idea, what I can change?
    Thanks
    iMac Intel 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I mean "in the invisibel mode". The word fade out is wrong i think.
in the systempreferences for the user I can define, which program should loaded at start up. If I say: start iTunes invisibel, i do not appear, it is running in the background, but I do not see anything of the app.
Opening mail.app, the main window is visibel, it is not in the front. It is not possible to see the desktop.
In earlier versions it was possible to let mail.app run but do not see anything of the app.
Has anybody an idea? Thank you very much.

  • Is it possible to close a app without the homebutton

my homebutton is broke and now i can't close any appe.
Does somebody know how i can close app's without the homebutton?

    i understand that.
But i won't do that, because the launch op the iphone 4S is the 28e.
But i think it's strange that you can do nothing with the iphone when 1 button don't work.
Normally on devices there are 2 or 3 options to close something.

Anyone have this problem, could tell me how to solve it, Thx.

    Chris,
I want to be sure I understand because I was a little unclear at the end. You
did successfully get the managed server to start from the console after you
installed jdk1.3.1? Be sure your PATH variable contains the correct java bin
directory. Are you failing again now that you reinstalled WLS and the JDK?

  • Can I develop a data acquisition app without the DAQ card installed?

    I'm new to LabView.
I would like to build a simple data acquisition app (graphical display and logging). I would prefer to build this on my desktop, and then install/run it on a laptop.
I'm not sure how to work this as the DAQ card and driver are not installed on my desktop. Is there a (hopefully) simple way to configure a data source in labview so that the app will automatically (or at least easily) connect to the existing driver?
At the end of the day I don't want to install the complete dev system on my cheap little laptop just for this one application.
    TIA,
    Michael

yes you can develop an application without having a daq card installed. You still will use the same functions in labVIEW. If you are using labVIEW 6.1 they are under the data acquisition palette in the block diagram. If you are using LV7 there are now two types of data acquisition functions. Traditional NI Daq (before lv 7) and new Daq MX. The daq functions are under the NI Measurements palette in LV7. If you are new to LV I suggest you use the daq assistant on the bottom of the palette. This will allow you to easily configure what you want, the drawback is that you will need to use this on the computer that has the card. So try the traditionaly nidaq functions. They will allow you to develop without the card. hope this helps.

  • Can I publish Single Issue DPS apps without the content viewer skin?

Hey - we're building an 'app' using Adobe DPS plugins in indesign, and I have a fundamental question:
When publishing a single issue iPad app to the Apple App Store, is there any way to do away with the Adobe-imposed content viewer skin? We have enough wayfinding and interactivity built into in the folio itself - we would like to get rid of the extra chrome surrounding it. (see below) Is this possible?
    Thanks!

    No.

  • How do I back up my apps without the need of re-downloading from iTunes when I restore them?

I have an iPod Touch(2nd) and all the apps I have left on it still works cause I've never updated them.  I know you might say I should to protect... blah, blah, blah. I only use it as an MP3 player, but I sometimes use the apps that are still working.
Is there anyway for me to backup the apps with their old firmware? Forget iCloud if you were thinking that.  It's a 4.2.1 firmware iOS.  I don't want to end up with findout that the apps are the new version requiring my iPod to have the latest firmware to work.
    Thanks.

I would do that by deleting the apps from your iTunes library and then transfer them to your iTunes library. See:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
In iTunes 11 use Control+B to show the Menu bar then go to iTunes>File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

  • I switched iPad users and changed to my apple ID but cannot update any of my apps without the old users apple ID password

My boss gave me his old iPad and reset all of the information and I signed in with my apple ID but every time I try and update any of my apps it asks for his password, how do I fix it?

You can't fix it. The apps are tied to your boss's Apple ID and so you'll need it to update those apps. The only alternative is to delete those copies of the apps and re-purchase them through your own iTunes Store account.
