Starting database with spfile which is stored on ASM (11.2.0.2)

Hi guys,
I am trying to startup database with spfile which is stored on ASM. when i tried to startup it says no file in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs.
so created a symbolic link from $ORACLE_HOME/dbs pointing it to ASM spfile. I know we can have acopy in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs..which i dont want.
Thanx guys

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25513/initparams243.htm#REFRN10207
Check above link.
Initialization Files and Oracle Automatic Storage Management: A database that uses Oracle Automatic Storage Management (Oracle ASM) usually has a nondefault SPFILE. If you use the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) to configure a database to use Oracle ASM, DBCA creates an SPFILE for the database instance in an Oracle ASM disk group, and then causes a text initialization parameter file (PFILE) to be created in the default location in the local file system to point to the SPFILE, as explained in the next section.
Check this link to use SPFILE parameter:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/start001.htm#CIHDFJGC
I think the preference while starting up instance is at $ORACLE_HOME/dbs:
spfile<sid>.ora
spfile.ora
init<sid>.ora

  • How to open RAC node2 usng spfile which will stay in ASM disk?

    Hi,
    I have installed oracle 11g r2 rac with asm in two nodes. OS is hp-Unix.
    I have installed oracle11g Active Data Guard using Single alone Database.
    Both RAc and Active Data Guard works fine.
    I have not configure Data Guard Broker.
    N.B Rac node1 is running using spfile which is in ASM disk (+DATA/spfiledcpdb.ora) but node2 is running using pfile.
    Question: how to open node 2 using spfile which will stay in ASM disk like node 1?
    Thanks
    Solaiman
    Edited by: 876149 on Apr 1, 2013 10:08 AM

    Modify your PFILE to specify only IFILE='location_of_spfile'
    OR
    use STARTUP PFILE='location_of_spfile'
    Ensure that the spfile does have the 2nd instance specific parameters defined correctly.

  • T21 won't start on battery only. Starts OK with charger, which can then be disconnected!

    My Thinkpad T21 will not start on battery only. Indicators turn green (ventilator and disc try to run) for only less than a second and nothing more. If a charger/adapter is connected the machine starts OK, and then I even can disconnect the charger and continue to work. I only see a slight decrease in backlight intensity. This started after I connected a defective charger to the computer . I'm afraid some FET switch 'died'. I've found elsewhere suggestions to discharge a certain "overcharged capacitor" and tried it by disconnecting the battery and pressing the ON button continuously then repeatedly but without results. According to the service manual I should replace the main board, but before I do that I'm ready to benefit from my possibility to access SMD repair tools. I've nothing to loose.  Does anyone know the startup circuitry or point me to the possibly bad FET? Does anyone have the keyboard circuit or at least the connector's pin designations (or at the very least: which pins are wired to the POWER button)? Thanks, ANTIK

    Repeating my response to your thread at TPF in case you (or anyone else hasn't seen it):
    It does sound possible that one (or more) of the MOSFETs on the motherboard has died. As far as we know, there are no schematic diagrams publicly available for any Thinkpad. Assuming that you want/need to know the pinout designation for the keyboard connector in order to turn on the laptop without the keyboard attached, then you can use the simple port replicator (FRU 02K8668) to do that. Mount the laptop in the port replicator (without the keyboard) and you can then press the power button on the replicator to turn on the system. These port replicators are available on eBay, like this one:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350196508319
    There may be cheaper sources on eBay or locally.

  • Starting up with Leopard: which disk?!

    Today I received my shiny new MacBook. It came with a drop-in dvd of Leopard so I installed that, but now I'm unsure whether I still need to run the other two installation disks that came with it. If I do will it revert back to Tiger? Also, I can't find any kind of word-processing application on it - am I being stupid or do I have to purchase one separately? Please, please help - I am very confused!
    Message was edited by: Zisa

    It sounds like your MacBook came preloaded with OSX 10.4 Tiger, with the two installation DVDs for it being included as per usual (one for the operating system itself and one for additional components, such as optional application installs).
    The OSX 10.5 Leopard Upgrade disc you were also supplied with will install Leopard for you, *but only over an existing installation of Tiger*.
    Your Macintosh should come with the iLife '08 suite, along with a trial of iWork '08. The latter is OSX's answer to AppleWorks and includes the word processor, Pages.

    Hi JollyRoger
    At first, I thought it was the command executed with the wrong user and redid the command being careful to be connected with the correct user.
    Having the same result.
    Following your suggestion, remove database with grid11g user and add with ora11g user. Same result.
    I'm thinking of removing the Clustware and RDBMS installation and install infrastructure without patching. After this applying each patches and checking if the user changes.

  • Problems with spfile. How to change database parameters

    Hello
    My Oracle database is 10.2.0 and SAP version is NW2004s. I am having errors in alert.log file
    Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 3959
    Checkpoint not complete
    Sun Aug 27 01:38:12 2006
    I have changed the parameter log_buffer from 14274560 to 1048576 following the SAP Note 830576. I changed the pfile and created a spfile from this pfile. Now the pfile and spfile reflect the parameter log_buffer as 1048576.
    But surprisingly, when I say
    SQL> show parameter log_buffer
    NAME                               TYPE                VALUE
    log_buffer                         integer         14274560
    Even after pfile and spfile reflecting 1048576 value for log_buffer, the database is showing this old value. Kindly let me know how to change the log_buffer parameter.

    hi,
    check which file it is reading
    sql>sho parameter spfile
    If it is reading spfile
    issue alter system set log_buffer=<value> scope=spfile;
    down and bring up database
    If it is not reading spfile means reading pfile change parameter in INIT<SID>.ORA file
    move all files which starts with spfile in dir $ORACLE_HOME/dbs to backup location
    connect to database
    create spfile from pfile
    check $ORACLE_HOME/dbs only one spfile<sid>.ora exists
    bring up database
    and look for log_buffer
    I guess ur changing in some other file which oracle is not reading.
    or u can issue startp pfile='path';
    then u can create spfile and issue startup force.
    regards
    Vinod

  • DB is not starting with spfile .

    Hi ,
    i am running DB (10.2.0.4) DB on solaris.x64 platform.
    When i started the database after install , its giving error as
    SQL> startup
    ORA-00064: object is too large to allocate on this O/S (1,3994560)
    I checked the sga_target size in spfile , which is set to (729145600 bytes ~ 595 M)
    When installed another DB with sga_target size as 412 M
    and started the DB it gives follwing error .
    SQL> startup
    SQL> ORA-00821: Specified value of sga_target 412M is too small, needs to be at least 552M
    if i start the same DB with pfile where sga_target has set to 1632 M , the DB is starting successfully.
    My question is if it is starting with this higher value of sga_target in with pfile , why it is not starting with a lesser value.

    Cause:     The specified value of sga_target is too small for the SGA to accommodate all of the necessary SGA components such as the log buffer, buffer pools, shared pool, etc.
    Action:     Set sga_target to the recommended value or reduce the values of any SGA component size parameters you have specified.
    The previous solutions where correct, but if you're not providing a full path on the "CREATE SPFILE" make sure you have defined the parameter SPFILE. Otherwise you'll get the SPFILE created on $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/spfileDBNAME.ora

  • Error in /tmp/applianceagent/scripts/Database.sh: Start database  failed with exit code 2

    Hello
    I have set up the Demo appliance landscape for the openSAP course "Introduction to SAP Fiori UX", on AWS.
    The frontend machine is OK, but the configuration and startup of the server machine has failed for some reason. When logging in with ssh to the server, this message is presented:
    The Appliance Agent detected an error and terminated.
    When asked, please provide the file /tmp/applianceagent_20141002-145658.tar.bz2.
    Note that a restrictive iptables based firewall is still active.
    I have attached the file (had to add .txt to the name to circumvent file type restrictions).
    I noticed that the appliancedeploy.log ended with these lines:
    Start database  Execute /usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/sapcontrol -nr 02 -function StartWait 3600 20
    02.10.2014 13:56:58
    Start
    OK
    02.10.2014 14:56:58
    StartWait
    FAIL: Timeout
    error in /tmp/applianceagent/scripts/Database.sh: Start database  failed with exit code 2
    Notice the 1 hour jump in time, and then the timeout error message.
    Do any of you have any idea what could be causing this, and how to fix it?
    Please let me know if you need any further information.
    Best regards,
    Bo

    Hi Hannes.
    Trying to create and activate a new instance (version 5 of the Fiori appliance), I first got this message in the CAL instance overview list:
    Instance Operation Failed
    Operation Start failed on step Start start VAs with message: Start failed for VM SAP Server due to Amazon Web Services issue : AMAZON : The snapshot 'snap-c779ff64' does not exist.
    Then I terminated the instance and tried over again. And this time the deployment worked - I have a running server, which responds to the SAP GUI, and shows the Fiori web page.
    Thanks a lot for your quick help.
    Best regards,
    Bo

  • How to display an image, which is stored in a database?

    Hi All,
    I would like to display an image with Web Dynpro.
    I already know how to display an image which is stored in the path src/mimes/Components/...
    But does anybody knows, how to display an image which is stored in a database (e.g. MaxDB)as a datatype of binary?
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Silvia

    Hallo John,
    yes, you can use the Image UI element.
    Further you have to create a String for the URL. Implement like as follows:
    IWDCachedWebResource cachedResource = null;
    String imgUrl = null;
    WDAttributeInfo attInfo = wdContext.getNodeInfo().getAttribute(IPrivateXYView.IXYElement.PIC_DB);
    IWDModifiableBinaryType binaryType =
                   (IWDModifiableBinaryType) attInfo.getModifiableSimpleType();
    binaryType.setMimeType(WDWebResourceType.JPG_IMAGE);//Example *.jpg
    WDWebResourceType type = binaryType.getMimeType();
    byte[] file = wdContext.currentXYElement().getPicDB();
    if (file != null)
    cachedResource = WDWebResource.getWebResource(file, type);
    try
    imgUrl = cachedResource.getURL();
    catch (WDURLException e)
    IWDMessageManager msgMgr = wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager();
                        msgMgr.reportException(e.getLocalizedMessage(), true);
    I hope it will help you.
    Regards,
    Silvia

    Show parameter pfile/spfile will not show you contents of pfile , for seeing contents you will have to show parameter with required parama name.
    show parameter log_archive_dest
    Whenever you start database ostartup first by default use spfile$Oracle_Sid.ora for starting the instance if this spfile does not exist then it goes for spfile.ora if spfile.ora also does not exist then it search init$Oracle_Sid.ora in default location.
    As you created spfile after restarting the database will automatically use spfile and will show you spfile in yours param when you will show parameter spfile if it does not show then you are still using pfile

  • Why does my itunes crash after start up with an "APPCRASH" error every time i open it?! I have been trying to fix this for weeks but all i can do it re-install it every other day which does nothing!

    Why does my itunes crash after start up with an "APPCRASH" error every time i open it?! I have been trying to fix this for weeks but all i can do it re-install it every other day which does nothing! I am desperate to get access to my itunes to get music on my phone and all of this just makes me want me to sell my iphone since there is no other way to add music to my phone. If things go get sorted soon you can say goodbye to my support.

    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
    The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Size limit of access database with image files stored outside database

    I have read 2GB limit on size of Access database.  We are using Access 2013 database with fields that are data type attachment and storing attached images outside the database.  Does the size of the folder that is holding these images count
    in any way toward 2GB size limit?

    Hi,
    As far as I know, Access database limit size 2GB based on itself, not related to the folder size.  Attachment data
    type is similar to attaching files to e-mail messages. We need to control the Access database size is smaller then 2GB.
    When a field is defined with the attachment data type, you can store one or more files for each record in it.
    Attachments can dramatically increase the size of the database, but since the attached file is stored as a part of the dabatbase, you are not dependent on network drives being available as you would be if you inculded a hyperlink to the file. As a matter of
    fact, feel free to backup the origainal file to other disk after you attach it to the database.
