  • VB startup script not running on Win7

    Hi,
my startup VB script not working on Windows 7. The script should install or uninstall office 2010 based on group membership.
I tested scipt on Windows XP and everything works. When I run script manually, it works.
Quite similiar batch file works, office are installed but not same functionality for me.
I turn UAC off, bot not working.. Also add dword EnableLinkedConnections  but nothing change.
Batch file works but VBScript not!
    Any advice? Thx

    Hi Tomas Cink,
Based on my understanding, the start VB script which is deployed via GPO could not works fine on Windows 7 clients, although it can works fine on Windows XP clients and it can
    run sucessfully if manually. Right?
Firstly, please run the following command on the problematic workstation.
Gpresult /h > C:\temp\gpresult.html  (“C:\temp\” is the path of the gpresult.html, you can set it by yourself)
This file is used for checking the result of Group Policy information. Open the file to check if the GPO has applied.
If the GPO has applied, please follow the following step to narrow down the issue:
Change the script to the following command: add  > %SystemDrive%\Users\test.txt
    to the script.
Log on to a client with a regular user account, run
gpupdate/force, and then re-log on to this client.
Check if the test.txt file exists in this location
    %SystemDrive%\Users.
    If the
test.txt file exists, the GPO with startup script is applied successfully. But the result of running logon script achieves the goal we excepted or not which is still not sure.

  • Gpo computer startup scripts not running

    Hi,
I´m making some test with a windows 7 pro 64 bit computer and a 2008 r2 domain controller where I have created a computer startup script. I give you more info:
    Domain functional level: 2008 R2
    DC: 2008 R2
    Client: Windows 7 pro x64
Gpo: Computer configuration -> Windows configuration -> Script -> Startup
Type of script: bat file copied on \\domain_name\SysVol\domain_name\Policies\{461E688A-E8F8-4C9B-8419-FE83DCDD4C26}\Machine\Scripts\Startup
The windows 7 machine is full updated, windows firewall disabled, uac disabled, windows defender disabled.
The bat file works and the gpo is applying, i have seen it via gpresult, another gpo which is in a top level works fine.
I need some help please, because I don´t know what to try.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Egoitz28,
Do you mean that you add the bat file in the startup group policy and gpresult shows that it is applied, but the bat is not run?
Please share us the bat file to test.
Logon/Logoff scripts could only be applied to users, whereas Start-up/Shutdown scripts applies to computers.
I create a test.bat start %windir%\system32\notepad.exe, and add it to the User Configuration->Policies->windows Settings->Scripts->Logon in the Default domain policy. And it works.
If I create in the startup policy in Computer configuration, I can see it in the gpresult, but it doesn’t work.
Please test if the bat works in the Logon policy.
    Best regards,

  • AS 3 project swf compiled in flash builder(on mac) does not run on windows 7 machine

    Hey there!!
I have a as3 project that I'm building using flash builder 4.5. When I run or debug in FB it's fine, but when I move it to the windows 7 machine its going to live on nothing shows up. Not even the first function or any traces. I have tried to make the project into an air app but when I try to run it, the paths seem to be all messed up. I'm ok with dealing with the path issue later but for now and for testing I need to be able to just grab the swf that FB spits out and test it on the machine. Before you say use the flash ide the other developer uses only fb so if I can get it to work they will have to come to me everytime to compile if they just want to test something.
    Thanks
    Jorge

ok guys get ready for this one!
there where a couple of issues. yes it did help that i exported the project to the debug folder instead of  deploy folder we set up. but it still wasnt 100% right. so, one issue is that our asset swc was huge. we had everything under the sun in there. so, it would not compile correctly. how did i find this out you ask? i tried to run it in just the flash ide and it would compile so i knew something was super wrong. second, at some point somehow some of our text fields in the asset swc where converted to one of those new fangled tlf type text fields. we never added that swc to the compile path. somehow flash builder just ignored that and still built the swf but it mustve been corrupted to begin with.
so the morale of the story keep an eye on your assets!!

    Hi,
This is typical of an OEM license issue.
To avoid this in the future you should look at site/volume licensing.
    Anyway.
so, first check if you can re-arm by runing the
slmgr.vbs /dlv and check the re-arm counter, if it set to zero.. you need to do the following :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929828 (set the <SkipRearm>1</SkipRearm> like in the example, note: this option will make the product key window to appear in the setup process).
you can also try running : slmgr.vbs -rearm, to rearm Windows.
after that, let's come back to the sysprep process.. for syspreping already syspreped machine we have to change few keys in the registry :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\SysprepStatus\GeneralizationState\
    CleanupState:2
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\SysprepStatus\GeneralizationState\
    GeneralizationState:7
After done with the registry, do the following :
Start -> Run : msdtc -uninstall (wait few seconds)
Start -> Run : msdtc -install (wait few seconds)
    Restart the machine
Check the registry for the right registry keys values
sysprep with the new XML answerfile.

  • Firefox is taking a long time to open. When it does open, I get a pop up box with "Script not running". Bookmarks on my tool bar don't load. Scrolling is unreliable--it will stop in the middle of a page

What is causing the "script not running"? Why so long to open? Etc.

    Hi Donekes,
First off I need a little more information to help with troubleshooting.  You say that an error occurs when you "try to re-open the same problem app before the old session completely exits".  Does the error have an error code or dialog display?  It may also be possible to receive an error log.  Here is a knowledge base that explains how to retrieve error logs.

If you are able to get that information then please post.  Have a good day.

  • Director 11.5 "exe" not running in windows lower version

    hi,
i have some project made in director mx2004 (d10) and convert it to director 11.5 but when i publish exe it will not run on windows 2000 or windows 98 (basically lower then windows xp2), have any one idea of that
    thanks

This page shows the authoring and runtime OS requirements. Unfortunately, D 11.5 isn't set up to run on Windows versions earlier than XP. You may want to keep that earlier version of your .exe and make it available to users with 2000 or 98.

  • Continuing update failure problems, "Not running real Windows"

    Hello,
About 2 weeks ago I started getting a message on my computer screen "Not running Genuine Windows". I am most definitely running genuine windows. I checked the archives here and tried a fix that popped up, no joy.
It gave a fix option, which failed...generating error code 800706F7 again. I called tech support, a lady spent two hours working on the computer and could not fix it. She sent me to level two tech support, he called on New Years Day and worked on it for
a couple of hours and thought it was fixed.
The error message is back, the computer will not accept updates from windows updates.com, tells me to install update fix it, did so, still fails to install updates. This is becoming a nightmare, please help.

    Hello NorCal Jeff,
Please use system restore to restore the system back to a store point before two weeks ago and check if the issue still exists.
    System Restore:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows7/products/features/system-restore
1.Open System Restore by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type System Restore, and then, in the list of results, click System Restore. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the
    password or provide confirmation.
2.Follow the steps in the wizard to choose a restore point and restore your computer.

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

  • GPO Startup/Shutdown scripts not running

I am running server 2003 SBS with windows 8.1 Pro workstations.
My workstations run 1 start-up script and 2 shutdown scripts. All are BAT files.
They were all working fine last week before I ran the update for 8.1.1, now they do not run at the appropriate time on any of those systems. However, if I execute them manually they work as expected.
I have checked to see if the BAT files are still located in the GPO and they are there. They are stored locally on each machine, I have even tried to delete and re-add them and then run GPUPDATE to no avail.
Any help here would be great, as they deal with local encrypted containers and are specific to each workstation.

    Hi Sebastian,
    Thanks for posting.
Whether the GPO with start-up/shutdown scripts are linked to the OU containing computers?
FYI -  Logon/Logoff scripts could only be applied to users, whereas Start-up/Shutdown scripts applies to computers.

  • How do I run a Windows virtual machine?

I have a program for my research (Scigress) that only runs on Windows. I would like to be able to run the program on my Mac, I assume the best way to do that is to run a virtual machine. I don't want to run Windows all the time, since I strongly dislike Windows. Is there a way to do this in which I can turn Windows off as soon as I'm done with that program? What would be the best way to do this, or the best app to use? I have a 2009 Macbook with Lion installed.

I apologize, dragon. I didn't fully read your post well before opening my mouth. Sorry, "the ADD" has me (even as a grown man).
You have really two fundamental choices here on where you could take this. My primary concern above all would be "how resource intensive is this Windows software"? I mean, is it like a CAD or other 3D modeling app or otherwise just... monster? Working in the tech field I have seen CAD programs opening a complex drawing nearly bring say... a dual Xeon, 16GB RAM, 2-4GB of VRAM with cards in tandem (Crossfire or SLI in the PC world, I don't know if it's called the same over here)... but it would literally freeze these beasts of workstations solid for 5-20 minutes while opening and rendering some of these mind-blowing CAD drawings (talented guys, no way I could manage to create some of those 3D models of such just... complexity... in a virtual environment).
So-- with that being said, that's worst case scenario on the software. That would pretty much really cripple your luck with virtualization/emulation of a guest OS (that is, the operating system that is running "under the command") of the main one you're running.
If the program is not that kind of one, it would certainly be more convenient to you to just literally almost open "Windows" like it's just another app, literally... and close it/shut it down as soon as you're done, leaving your other OS X desktop work up and running.
If it *is* going to be a resource hog, then your second option is Boot Camp, which I'm sure you've heard of... You basically split the hard drive (partition it) into two segregated areas of storage and literally you can run either/or and utilize the full power of the machine this way, as you're not sharing CPU/memory. The downside, as sort of mentioned-- is that you have to boot into one or the other, it's not a "program" like the other is, almost; so you'd have to "shut down" or use the little utility app at least to reboot into OS X.
Think about your circumstances and take a look at that article comparing or also research Allan's suggestion, that is a new one to me. That will at least get you familiar with what the "experience" of virtualizing operating systems is like... then let us know what you think is best and we can go from there and help you. Sorry about jumping the gun earlier. Hope I made up for it with an abundance of information at least the second time...
