SQL>I'll lay odds that the problem is that you've asked this database to use an UNDO tablespace called UNDOTBS, but that in your spfile (or init.ora) you've specified UNDO_TABLESPACE=UNDOTBS01 (or something similar).
If the parameter file specifies an undo tablespace which doesn't exist, the instance blows up.
The advice to read the alert log would be useful at this point, because the mismatch of undo tablespace names is always recorded properly there (which always makes me annoyed that the original error message can't be a bit more precise!) -

Dear Experts
I want to create database in oracle 10g manually, without using dbca or create database script on sql. I have been searching google, but not getting any related document. Can you please guide me or provide any link where I get steps to create a database by copying files etcuser832095 wrote:
Thanks to all of you for your prompt response. But in all these responses, I have to issue CREATE DATABASE scrip. There is another way in which we do not use CREATE DATABASE statement, and create all files and folders manually. I did this exercise in the past but now lost all the stuff. Anyways, thanks for your replyIf you are asking about creating a database than how it can be possible to do it without issuing Create Database command? How can you create the files and folders manually? May be you should refer to the reply of Pierre where he has mentioned to create a database using a backup.

i got these info from my teacher to create database link
1. Establish the network connection.
2. Shutdown the database. (SQL>shutdown immediate ;)
3. Open and modify the pfile and set GLOBAL_NAME = FALSE.
4. Create spfile from pfile. (SQL>create spfile from pfile;)
5. Startup database. (SQL> startup;)
6. Modify tnsnames.ora file, set the destination computer service name and other in formations.
ASIF.com =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ONE)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = ORCL)
7. Crate database link .
SQL>create public/private database link abc
Connect to scott
Identified by tiger
Using asif.com;
in step 3, which pfile should i modify
i got a file in F:\oracle\admin\fahmi\pfile named init.ora.31620060327
but there is no line like GLOBAL_NAME = FALSE
so watching the sample i add this line in init.ora.31620060327
global_names = FALSE
am i right...........??
can anyone help me...??
i have some few other questions.....................The following is an excerpt from http://www.oracleutilities.com/OSUtil/ping.html
The tnsping utility is used to determine whether or not an Oracle service can be successfully reached. If a connection can be established from a client to a server (or server to server), tnsping will report the number of milliseconds it took to reach the remote service. If unsuccessful, a network error will be displayed. However, tnsping will only report if the listener process is up and provides no indication of the state of the database.
$ tnsping <net service name> <count>
The net service name must exist in the tnsnames.ora file. This file is used by clients and database servers to identify server destinations. It stores the service names and database addresses. The count parameter is optional and will show the number of times the command should try to connect to the specified service name.
After this I suggest you to check your $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sqlnet.ora.
Look for what is configure for:
NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN
NAME.DEFAULT_ZONE
This must be compatible to what you are using in your tnsnames.ora.
By the way, don't forget to check if there is a log file (sqlnet.log) in your $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory.
Regards.

Hello Everyone,
I need to create a database manually. It needs to be a data warehouse database. How can I go about doing that? I tried to create a database thru DBCA but it was giving me an error something about AWR. I don't have the excat error but I can get for you. Please any help is appreciated. I am on AIX 5.3 platform.
ThanksI got this error while creating the database. So
which SYSAUX tablespace am I suppose to extend? If you get this message while creating a database, then the tablespace it refers to would be the one for the database you are creating. Unlike SQLServer, in Oracle the term 'database' is the highest level of organization there is. Except for the possible contention for system level resources, this new database neither knows nor cares a thing about any other databases that may exist anywhere in the universe. In Oracle, every database (and here I use the term 'database' in a broad sense - to include the files and the instance(s)) has its own files, memory, and processes. Multiple databases can communicate with each other, but they don't share anything - not files, not memory, not process, not logical objects within the database.
Just find the place in the CREATE DATABASE script where it defines the SYSAUX tablespace and adjust the size accordingly. -
I am getting this error while creating Database manually.

DBCA and Creating Database Manually
Hi
After creatinig the database using Create Database command, we need to run the scripts like catproc.sql,etc. It takes a long time.
However when we create the database using DBCA, it is faster and we are not required to run those scripts.
Reasons ?In DBCA, if you choose to create a db with the template 'General Purpose or Transaction Processing' including data files, you would put a check mark in the Generate Database Creation Scripts section to produce scripts with the same actions as run by DBCA (including the rman clone of the seed database). With these scripts you don't need to run cat* scripts seperately.
Time the <db_name>.bat run against the same run "within" DBCA.

SachinHi,
not any thing new from the already given answer. But, i hope this examples gives more clarity.
Answers below:
1) ORACLE_SID is the answer
2) see the output below.
SQL> startup nomount
ORACLE instance started.

3) Check environment variables for ORACLE_HOME variable will let you know the location of the PFILE. By default it will be ORACLE_HOME/database (windows), ORACLE_HOME/dbs (LINUX/UNIX).
SET command will help you or use widows options.
In some other cases, the PFILE contains the link to it with IFILE value left in PFILE which should show the location.
4) Check environment variables for ORACLE_HOME variable will let you know the location of the password file. By default it will be expected in ORACLE_HOME/database (windows), ORACLE_HOME/dbs (LINUX/UNIX).

How to create database with ASM
HI
How to create database with ASM?
I install vmware workstation on window XP .On virtual machine install Linux 5 enterprise (Oracle) install.
I install oracle DB software only. Also make 3 disk for ASM .
1 -- When I want to install oracle DB with ASM . In this process candidate disks not show . Why?
How I can see disks ..
so I simple install oracle DB software only.
2 -- Now I want to create database with ASM by DBCA .
What process I will follow ?
Please guide me
ThanksHi
Steps to create database with ASM.
1.Install oracle binary with active CRS(For single node installation CRS is activated when you run root.sh) .
2.Create disk without file ssytem.
3.Assign disk to raw .
4.Change owner and permission to raw devices.
5.Configure ASM manually or USing DBCA.
Manually ASM Configuration.
a.Create initialization parameter file and password file.
b.Mandatory parameter is "instance_type=asm" as per your need configure rest of parameter like db_cache_size,large_pool_size,processes,remote_login_passwordfile,shared_pool_size etc..
c.To discover disk configure "asm_diskstring=/dev/raw/raw*"
Using DBCA to configure ASM.
1.In storage type section choose ASM.It will ask for password of sysdba in 10g.
2.ASM configuration window will open -> here it create disk group -> it shows all available ASM candidate disk automatical -> choose normal redundancy, external redundancy or high redundancy.
ASM disk also can be conbfigured with ASMLIB .
If ASM disk is configured you can start asm instance in nomount state and query to v$asm_disk to see all candidate disk.V$asm_disk only shows disk which is configured in asm_diskstrings.
Hope this will help U,
Tinku -
Hello,
I'm trying to create database manually using the Create database statement, but i can't do that, because when i try to log to sqlplus i receive an adapter protocol error, so i can't start the instance after using the oradim utility, sp please if any one can give the steps to create db manually i will be thankful, the OS is windows XP service pack 2, database 10g release 2, thank u.if you are installing on windows xp,
1. please note that you have to create microsoft loop back adapter.
2. set the environment variables ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME properly and then run the oradim utility.
3. once the service is created and up and running, proceed with the db creation.
alternatively, use DBCA tool which is easy to use and takes care of everything. -
