Steps to register logfile manually in asm.

Hi,
My primary databse is on file system having 10.2.0.5 db version.
My standby db is on ASM(11.2.0.2)
Operating system is Windows 2003.
somehow My standby database is not able to capture archivelogs from primary database.
so i want to manually transfer missing archivelogs on standby datbase server and want to manually register the missing archivelogs.
But as my primary db is in file system and standby db is in asm. how i can copy my missing archivelogs in asm diskgroups.
So please let me know wht are the steps to register logfile manually in asm.

Duplicate post: Register logfile manually in asm.
And:
What were you thinking that this should work in the first place ??
Why take a totally other version for the standby database and also select ASM instead of a filesystem to make it even more complex??
Start reading the documentation, like http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/create_ps.htm

Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 for Mac does not show up in Applications. Tutorial for editing from iPhoto shows selecting the Adobe software in Applications. Am I missing a step in registering product?

I answered my own question: There's a difference between "download' and "install." Hunt for "install" (1.5 hrs in my case) and line up your passwords, Adobe ID, etc, then install. Took 15 min. The right choice shows up in Applications. Now it's on to figuring out why photo selected for edit in iPhoto does not show up on screen in Elements.

  • Creating Oracle 11g Database Manually on ASM on 11g R2 Grid

    Hi:
Earlier added this issue alongwith Grid installation. Only Jorg replied to me but could not find a complete solution. So thought of starting a new thread.
Wanted to know if any one of you have successfully created Oracle Database Manually on ASM on Oracle 11g R2 Grid.
I have installed Oracle 11g R2 grid (grid user) and Oracle 11g R2 DB software succesfully (oracle user).
Now trying to create a database manually on ASM as Oracle user.
First I create an pfile in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
then I started by db on nomount stage. when I create a spfile on to my ASM diskgroup I get
I have created 2 diskgroups '+DGASMSPFILE' (ASM Spfile) and '+DGDBDATA' (for database)
    Grid is up and running.
    From Oracle user:
    Have created a sample initDBRAC.ora
Now I want to create Oracle Database Global Spfile into '+DGASMSPFILE'
    export ORACLE_SID=DBRAC
    $ sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> create spfile='+DGASMSPFILE/spfileDBRAC.ora' from pfile;
ORA-17502:ksfdcre:4 failed to create file +DGASMSPFILE/spfileDBRAC.ora
    ORA-12547: TNS lost contact
"Oracle user" should have privileges to access ASM diskgroup right? What is the permission set for /dev/sdc* (earlier it was root:oinstall I changed it to grid:oinstall even then no difference.

    Hi Sebastian:
When I installed grid software, oracle db software and created oracle db manually things worked fine.
When I restart the RAC environment I found the following issues:
    1) all the resources does not come up automatically, once i issue crs_start -all all the services comes up. (most of the resources related to node1 comes up but cluster resources related to node2 does not come up) crsctl check crs shows that things are online.
    2) wanted to recreate a database manually after restarting the RAC enviroment. To start of as usual tried to create a spfile in ASM disk "Create spfile='+DGDBSPFILE' from pfile'
I get ORA-17502:ksfdcre:4 failed to create file +DGDBSPFILE'
    12547: TNS: lost contact
    looks like permission problem.
The same command worked before restarting the RAC environment. Pls let me know if I am missing out anything.
Is it because i am unable to access ASM instance.
    3) As you had mentioned tried to set the sbit by executing the following statement:
    $ /opt/grid/bin/setasmgidwrap o=/opt/oracle/product/11.2.0/db/bin/oracle
should this be put into "rc" folder in linux so that it gets set everytime linux starts up. because once i restart the permission get changed.
I should execute it from grid user to change the permission of 'oracle' binary in 'oracle user' right?
Can you explain me why is this required (sbit).
    Thanks.
    Regards
    Dinesh

  • Is this step can be executed manually compulsary

    Hi Viki,
I am upgrading database using MW on linux.
8-Apply latest certified Forms and Reports (Developer) 6i patch set 17 (Conditionally Required)
so is above step have to do manually compulsary ?

You don't say which DB upgrade product you're using, or what part of the upgrade you're on, so I'm going to assume that you're upgrading to 11g and probably referring to the following task:
Category: Pre-Upgrade > Product Family: Applications Interoperability > Task: Update Developer 6i
The execute substep is manual. Any time you do NOT have a run button appear, and are only given instructions on what to do, then the step must be performed manually.

  • Register level manual for 5105?

    Hi,
I have several NI-PXI-5105 that I need to use with GNU/Linux (64). After browsing the many docs on your site, it looks like the only solution left is to develop my own driver (using comedi if possible, or mhddk).
To do so, I need the register-level manual for the PXI 5105. Could you give me a link to it please? Thanks!
    Regards,
    Romain

    Hello.
MHDDK can't be used to program scope cards.
The 5114 scope card is supported ONLY on the Intel x86 32-bit architecture on the following Linux distributions:
    Mandrakelinux 10.1 Official
    Mandriva Linux 2006
    SUSE LINUX Professional 9.3
    SUSE LINUX 10.0
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 3
You can dowload NI-SCOPE 2.9 driver for Linux from this link.

  • Alter database register logfile

    Hi,
I just setup a dr site for our client for R/3 production system.
I had two options to automatically apply the logfiles in standby system.
Option 1: Wrote a script to automate the archive from primary to standby and then apply on standby.
    Option 2: Just moved the archive from primary to standby and fired the command alter database managed standby database;
Here i had to fire one more command on different sql session to register the archive on standby system. Registering log file has to be done for all archive logs.
Currently the standby system is running based on option1.
    My question is,
why do i need to register these archive files?
Is there any way, this registration can be skipped?
    Regards,
    Iyyappan

    Hello Iyyappan,
at first we have to clarify: A logical or a physical standby database?
    For example:
If the primary database is unavailable, you have to perform the register manually.
It is described by the oracle dataguard concepts:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/log_transport.htm#i1148216
And take a look at here what a "gap" is:

form builder 10g(10.1.2)I assume you have Oracle E-Business Suite R12, if you have Apps 11i then you should use Forms 6i.

I read some where that, we have to run those forms from AU_TOP using some telnet with some unix credentials.

I must say honestly that I got a little ticked when you have mentioned .odb is oracle lite. You should mention the complete name of the software whichever it may be as its not at all mandatory, everyone would know the acronym.
    Anyways,a quick search revealed this.
Connect Forms 6i application to Oracle 10g Lite database on notebook
I have not worked in Oracle lite at all.So I can't help much in it.But as per the thread,it wont be a straight connectivity.I would suggest you contact Support

  • Database creation with ASM using dbca

    hi all,
i found the steps to create the database using ASM diskgroup.
but i received errors when configuring the FRA(flash recovery area), DBF(normal), +ARCH(archival dest),
i tried atleast 2 to 3 times from scratch but found the same error....................
    ORA: 19624
    ORA: 19870
here are the steps can somebody correct these steps..................
Create Virtual Disks from VM Ware software when server is down.
    Choose Edit Virtual Machine Settings.
    Click on Add button
Press Next and Highlight Hard Disk, then click Next
Check ‘Create a New Virtual Disk’
    Choose SCSI as type
    Select Size as 2 GB
Name the virtual disk as ‘ASMDBF1.vmdk’
    Create additional disks as:
    ASMDBF1.vmdk for DBF files
    ASMDBF2.vmdk Failover group
    ASMFRA.vmdk Flash Back Recovery Area
    ASMREDO.vmdk Redo Log Area
    ASMARCH.vmdk Archived Logs
    •     Start up the server OraWorld1
    •     Go to Disk Management and you will be prompted with a screen which should display all five disks with a check mark. Accept defaults and Click next.
    •     On second script all five will be unchecked, click Next
    •     Press Finish to complete and you should see all 5 disks as Type Basic Unallocated. For each of the disk perform:
    1.     Right click, New Partition, Extended Partition and Finish
    2.     Right click, New Logical drive, Do not assign drive letter nor partition it.
    3.     From command prompt type Diskpart and enter Automount enable.
    4.     From command prompt, configure basic CRS services as
    5.     C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1>localconfig add
    6.     C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1>localconfig add
    7.     Step 1: creating new OCR repository
    8.     Successfully accumulated necessary OCR keys.
    9.     Creating OCR keys for user 'administrator', privgrp ''..
    10.     Operation successful.
    11.     Step 2: creating new CSS service
    12.     successfully created local CSS service
    13.     successfully added CSS to home
    •     Launch DBCA and choose Configure Storage Management.
    •     Select Create New group, choose stamp disks which will show you all of your five disks. Configure ASM links to all these disks as:
    1.     ORCLDISKASMDBF1 \Device\Harddisk1\Partition1
    2.     ORCLDISKASMDBF2 \Device\Harddisk2\Partition1
    3.     ORCLDISKASMFRA \Device\Harddisk3\Partition1
    4.     ORCLDISKASMREDO \Device\Harddisk4\Partition1
    5.     ORCLDISKASMARCH \Device\Harddisk5\Partition1
Now make Change Disk Discovery Path as Null and you should see all disks.
Now create Disk groups as :
    ARCH \\.\ORCLDISKASMARCH External 1GB
    REDO \\.\ORCLDISKASMREDO External 1GB
    FRA \\.\ORCLDISKASMFRA External 2GB
DBF (MAIN GROUP WITH 2 SUB-GROUPS) Must create as Normal Redundancy
    DBFP \\.\ORCLDISKASMDBF1 External 2GB
    DBFS \\.\ORCLDISKASMDBF2 External 2GB
You now have a running ASM instance on the server.
    •     Checking ASM instance
You can always use DBCA to check settings of ASM.
    Alternatively, go to command prompt:
    Set ORACLE_SID=+ASM
    Sqlplus /nolog
    Connect sys/password as sysdba
    Show sga (80MB)
Total System Global Area 83886080 bytes
    Fixed Size 1247420 bytes
    Variable Size 57472836 bytes
    ASM Cache 25165824 bytes
SQL>desc You can then check C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\database for these files. You can also view v$parameter for all possible values for ASM instance.
    +asm.asm_diskgroups='DATA1','ARCH','REDO','FRA','DBF'#Manual Mount
    *.asm_diskgroups='DATA1','ARCH','REDO','FRA','DBF'
    *.asm_diskstring=''
    *.background_dump_dest='C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\+ASM\bdump'
    *.core_dump_dest='C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\+ASM\cdump'
    *.instance_type='asm'
    *.large_pool_size=12M
    *.remote_login_passwordfile='SHARED'
    *.user_dump_dest='C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\+ASM\udump'
You can change some of the values like large pool and even db cache size. You can also manually create the disk group as:
    Create diskgroup DBF NORMAL redundancy
    Failgroup flgrp1 disk ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA0’, ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA1’
    Failgroup flgrp2 disk ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA2’, ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA3’;
    Check Candidate disks:
    select group_number, disk_number, mount_status, header_status, state, path from v$asm_disk;
    Other useful queries:
    Select group_number, name, total_mb, free_mb, state, type
    From v$asm_diskgroup;
    Select group_number, disk_number, mount_status, header_status, state, path, failgroup
    From v$asm_disk;
You can use sql commands to perform most of the ASM tasks, however EM console can also be used here
    Oracle Database Installation
    •     Launch DBCA
    •     Choose Create Database and select OLTP type
    •     Name it as ORCL2, choose ASM as file system, select all disk groups to be used.
    •     Use oracle managed files as:+DBF press Next
*•     Specify Flash Recovery Area as +FRA*
    *•     Enable archiving at +ARCH*

Database ORCL2 is created with the following attributes:
    NAME: ORCL2
    SPFILE: +ARCH/ORCL2/spfileORCL2.ora
    URL: http://oraworld1:1158/em

Strange, those messages are RMAN backup errors -- are you trying to backup the database?
Or...if you selected "create starter database" it may be that dbca is not finding the backup files from the "demo" database.

  • Archive log registered, but showing as not applied in standby db + oracle 9i

    Hi all,
In my standby database some of the archive log files are not applied.found through the following command
    SQL > select sequence#,applied from v$archived_log where applied='NO';
    sequence# APP FIRST_TIME
    18425 NO 05-FEB-10
but when try to register manually
    SQL > alter database register logfile '/disk12/arch/A00123000018425.arc';
    ERROR at line 1
ORA-16089:archive log has already been registered.
"recover standby database" also asking for the new archive file. how will i apply that?
    any solutions?

I have did that so many times from 05-feb-10 onwards.
even then only one archive gap???
or only one is not applied? if yes may be archive file which exist at standby may be corrupt try to restore it from backup and recover.
also check for some clues at logs at standby and primary.. what actually happen. if archive gap is huge and you have all archvies then you may have to do manual recovery then keep it back to auto recovery mode.
    Hope that may help you.
