Stereo library 2012 pointers

Dear programmers,
I am trying to evaluate the new Stereo Vision Library and since I am fairly new at this, I would greatly appreciate an advice or two.
My (simple) setup is:
- Two DSLR cameras (different models, Cannon 50D and 350D)
- Different lenses, but the focal lengths were the manually set to 35 mm
- Same lighting (outdoor)
- Baseline distance ~200 mm
I calibrated single cameras using a camera model and also corrected perspective distortion. I used a grid shown above in 20 different postitions. Here, I had no problem.
A static scene was considered, and the cameras were set on 10 s timer.
Moving on, I used the stereo library to calibrate the stereo system and saved the stereo calibration data.
I used the semi-global block matching alghoritm to find the disparity image. Based on the equation
where f = 35 mm and b = 200 mm.
I calculated the minimum disparity and number of disparities for my working distance (approx. 500-3000 mm) -> min disp = 0, number of disp. = 16.
Using a small window size 7x7, I calculated the disparity for the following acquired images (an example of acquired image pair):
                                             Left image                                                                                                      Right image
The disparity image i get (non-interpolated) is:
The depth image isn't calculated (blank image) for some reason.
What am I doing wrong? I know I made some errors by my simplified system (the cameras are not fixed, the optics is not the same etc.), but what is wrong with the resulting disparity?
Is the problem in the  vertical misalignment of the images? From what I can gather, the biggest problem is the texture matching. I expected more segmented images (more areas of equal depth). Is there not enough texture to match both images?
If i try the example which is shipped with the Vision Module (Stereo Vision.vi) it works ok.
Please help with an explanation. And if I made a mistake, please be patient with me.
Thank you and best regards,
K

Ohh.. I forgot to mention that I reduced image sizes to 600x400. My fault. Also, I made them gray-scale. I am passing your images (rescaled and gray-scaled) in the attachement (Grid as well as object images, again for this set also make left as right and vice-versa). Use them. For calibration, I did the same thing (rescaled and gray-scaled the grid images). Finally, I used the Calibration Interface to calibrate the images. I passed the stero calibration file to you in the last response; use that along with the images I have sent. You will then have to change the number of disparities and see whether you can get the disparity and depth properly or not. I have tried here but due to different sensors, responses are different. So, while it gives something; it is not too clear. For example, for image-set 18, I am getting depth of the table starting from 57 inches to ending at 76 inches, if I take distance between two dots in your grid as 1 inch. I would recommend the following things for your future endeavours:
1). If possible use the similar sensors (similar cameras).
2). Capture smaller images (600x400) for your convenience.
3). You do not require 20 grid images. 6-7 grid images with sufficient translation and angle coverage should do.
4). Work in monochrome mode.
5). Use textured images (or use patterned lighting, if possible).
While it is slightly involved to setup stereo, it is very easy thereafter. So, bear with the process for now. Typically, for an informed user (having already set the system in past), it takes 15-20 minutes to set-up, capture images and calibrate.
Regards,
Ronak.

  • Stereo Vision and Projected Light

    Hello!
I'm looking for examples for the technologies mentioned in the subject. Anyone has dealt with these? If yes, can he share an example about them?
I have found an example for Stereo Vision in Vision Development Module's help, but I'm looking for other ones, and so far no success finding any.
I would be helped out with a Light Projection example aswell.
    Thank you!

    Hello,
take a look at the following discussion:
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/Machine-Vision/Stereo-library-2012-pointers/m-p/2171812/highlight/true#M3672...
Also, I am attaching a set of VI's (LV2012) that I used some time ago to obtain depth image from stereo image pair. They consist of three different stages:
    1. Images acquisition,
    2. Stereo calibration,
    3. Measurements.
When there is enough (distinct) texture on the measured surface, the projector is not neccessary. But in low texture setups, it can greatly enhance the quality of the measured data. If the projector is used, take care that the pattern is as random as possible. This should give the correlation algorithm a good basis. Take a look at the following paper:
    http://www.aurelien.plyer.fr/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/ptext.pdf
About "Light Projection" - if you are referring to structured lighting techniques take a look at the following page:
    http://mesh.brown.edu/byo3d/index.html
Hope this helps you in some way.

  • Losing file pointers in library

I'm have a fairly major problem where my library loses pointers to files in my iTunes library. I have set iTunes to manage my music files, and they're kept on an external drive. I know to make sure that the drive is accessible before I launch iTunes. I do not move any files. Yet the library loses the pointers to some of these files. The metadata for each song is intact, but it can't find the file even though the file is where it's supposed to be.
Right now, about 90% of my Purchased playlist can't find its music, and there is at least one file that's disappeared entirely!
I have about 54GB of music files right now. So fixing this problem by manually relocating each file for the library is going to be a LOT of work. Does anyone know why this is happening and what a fix might be?

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know Doug's Applescripts existed. What a great site!
I've searched through the site and found the following:
*List MIAs V1.2* This script goes through your library and finds music listed that doesn't have an associated file. In my case, this script found 4,281 'dead' tracks
*Not in Any Playlist v1.5* This script goes through your iTunes music folder and finds music that's not included in your library, then give you the option to add them. I had a problem using this script -- it would hang if I tried to get it to go through a different iTunes folder.
*Bring Out Yer Dead v1.1* This is the one you recommended. When you select a dead track, it goes out and finds a suitable file and asks you if you would like to import it. This is useful, but in my case, painful since you can only do this one file at a time.
*Super Remove Dead Tracks v2.1* This surveys iTunes for tracks whose files are no longer available and removes reference to them.
It would be cool to have a 'Bring Out Yer Dead' batch script.

  • Trying to Import my iTunes Library Retrieved from a Crashed Mac on my New Mac

    Hi all,
My old mac laptop crashed and I had the contents of it transferred to my new MacBookPro laptop. My itunes folder from the old mac laptop is now on my new laptop's desktop but I can't find a way to import my old itunes library to the new one. Which of the old files do I have to move and where, please? Thanks in advance for your help.
    Al
My old itunes folder's content reads like this:
    -itunes:
    -album artwork
      cache
       cloud
       download
    -iTunes Library 2011-12-28.itl
    -iTunes Library 2012-07-25.itl
    -iTunes Library Extras.itdb
    -iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    -iTunes Library.itl
    -iTunes Media
    - iTunes Music Library.xml

Go into iTunes prefs>Advanced - check that the path to your iTunes is correct.
It should look similar to this - /users/YOUR ACCOUNT/Music/itunes/itunes music - if the path is not correct then select the 'change' option and point the way.
If you have the ! Next to the tunes then the path is incorrect. This doesn't mean that the files are missing - just iTunes cannot find the way - iTunes is a data base manager and as such can lose track if things are moved in the Finder.

  • Can I open an iTunes library running on a mac from a PC over the network?

I've got an iMac running iTunes with my main library on it and a Vista laptop on the same network, running the latest version of iTunes, with a blank library. Can I open the library on the iMac and use it on the Vista laptop without screwing it up on the iMac?
I don't want to change, remove, or add anything from the Vista laptop, just use the library. I know I can share the library out from the iMac and that works fine, but I'm running Vista Media Center and want to access my iTunes library from Windows Media Center. There are plug-ins for Windows Media Center that make this happen but they have to be running on a PC with iTunes running.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

Assuming you have AVG then yes, a second patch has apparently been released to day which may resolve the issue. See this post for general advice.
If you don't see the .itl file extension then don't add it to the filename of the renamed file.
    iTunes Library 2012-09-22.itl > iTunes Library.itl
iTunes Library 2012-09-22 > iTunes Library
My advice has generally been aimed at Windows users, but if you have AVG on a Mac and that too suffers from this issue then it is worth nothing that at one point the iTunes Library on a Mac was stored without any extension. If you match the name of the empty library file you are replacing it should work.

  • How do I fix an Itunes Library (Damaged) on a Mac with all current software and udates?

I have lost my main Itunes Library.  I have one now that came straight from the music in my phone.  All playlist are gone.  75 gigs of music are gone.  the only music availible to me is the music that was in my phone.  down to 15 gigs  I have found a file that says "Itunes Library (Damaged)" but I can't do anything with it.  Of course Mac wants $ to fix it.  Is there anything I can do to remedy this disaster?  Running Imac with OS X 10.8.2, Iphone 4 w/ios6  and original Ipad with all updates.  The Iphone seems normal but is missing all playlist.  It reorganized the music.  The Ipad has no music and over half the Apps have disappeared.
    HHHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLPPPPPP!   Please!

  • ITunes library synchronization across multiple users on one computer

I've got a PC running MS XP/Home, with a separate user account for each family member. I also repointed all the iTunes library file pointers to the SAME file on the "D" hard drive (taking all that pressure off the "C" drive, which is filling up!)--so each iTunes incarnation for each user points to the same (master) file.
But when I download music from the Music Store into the library from my user account, it doesn't show up in the iTunes library listing when my daughter logs in using her account--and she can't download it to her iPod.
Why? I bought it for her; why should she have to download it? It's all on one computer!
Is it that iTunes really can't handle multiple users on one computer??????? I don't get it...this isn't any copyright or license issue.
I'd appreciate any tips to get the iTunes on one user's account to "restudy" the library to see if it's been changed by another user. We're all one family on our one computer!

  • Iphoto library acces in iMovie

    Hello,
I have a problem with iphoto browser in iMovie or Mail.
I have several iPhoto library. For example, if I open iphoto Libray 2012 in iphoto, I can see in imovie browser correct photo, movie. But if I open iphoto library 2015 un iPhoto, I see in imovie browser, photo of iphoto library 2012 ! Not 2015.
    I don't know what's the problem
    Someone can help me thanks.

Ok I found problem. My iphoto library was corrupted. I create new one et all is fine.

  • My *entire library* is suddenly gone except for one recently imported music bundle.

a week ago i loaded/imported a large folder of music (gift with an e-book purchase) to my itunes music library. that went fine, but this morning i wanted to sync my ipod touch with itunes, and that recently imported content is *all that is there*. all of my other content is still in its subfolders of my itunes library on my hard drive, but itunes can't see it. the folder that it does see is parallel in the directory tree with everything else. the only other thing that happened, is my credit card expired and i am about to enter the new expiration date now. but all of my paid content *is paid for*, so i don't see why that would matter.
and of course, all of my podcast subscriptions and playlists have been wiped. AGAIN. itunes eats itself and my podcast subscriptions several times a year, but this is different. in the past it has just decided it didn't recognize my ipod, and wiped the device. i've also had it randomly decide that it didn't know i was subscribed to any podcasts. this seems to be different. i hadn't sync'ed in over a month, and it's just not 'seeing' content of folders that are already there. what's killing me, is that the podcasts are a *huge* hemorrhoid to restore. i subscribe to a lot of them, and they are all free, yet itunes routinely flags my device as a content thief and cleans them off entirely. this. should. not. be. this. hard.
no way am i connecting my ipod to this thing until it's fixed. anyone ever have this happen? any ideas how i can make it right? any ideas what *happened*, and and how i might prevent it happening again?
i would really rather not have to manually re-import all of those folders that i had already imported to itunes; and the podcast situation is untenable, because not only do i have to re-subscribe to everything -- i have to re-figure out which episodes i have and have not heard. i sometimes get a little bit behind on listening, and at the moment i am very far behind indeed. recovering them to where i left off *always* *****. not to mention the audible audiobook i'm in the middle of.
i've had my ipod touch since 2008.

What i would do (i'm not an expert) is make sure your library is definitely gone then go to Music/iTunes/Previous Itunes Libraries and copy the most recent iTunes library file (Ex. Itunes Library 2012-11-30.itl) and then go back to Music/Itunes and replace "iTunes Library.itl" with the one you copied (rename iTunes Library 2012-?-?.itl to iTunes Lirary.itl)

  • My aperture library will not open after restoring my whole computer after a kernal panic.  I can not get the Aperture troubleshooting menu to open...any help?

My aperture library will not open after restoring my whole computer after a kernal panic.  I can not get the Aperture troubleshooting menu to open...any help?

    Leonie,
Fisrt let me thank you for your reply and assistance!  So here is the problem with so more detail...I was not sure I was going to get any replies ; )
I restored from a time machine back up.
    History of Failure:
I was trying to launch Aperture when the kernal panic occured.  My computer had been closed, and asleep and the battery was dead.  I plugged in charger and it was restoring/waking up after being asleep/shutting down from dead battery.  I launched Aperture from the dock and as soon as it opened the kernal panic occured.  After that the computer would not turn on.  It would try to boot then it would shut off.  I even tried to safe boot to no avail.  I went to the Apple store and they told me that the only thing I could do was restore whole computer from back up.  So thats what I did.
Since then my previous aperture library: "2011" will not open.  I have created a new aperture library "2012", and it runs fine.  I have added new photos for about the past month...no problems.
When I launch aperture with 2012 library then try to switch libraries, I get the following prompt: "The selected library is from an older version of Aperture and requires a relaunch to switch."  I choose "Relaunch" and I get the following warning prompt: "There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Library 20111.aplibrary”."  The only option is "Quit"
    Both libraries are version 3.2.3
    Computer stats: 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM, OS X 10.6.8
I have tried to launch aperture troubleshooting by holding option+command from both the aperture icon and from the library file, neither will launch the troubleshooting feature.
I am ok with computers, but not a whiz (mechanical engineer)...to me it seems as though there is a corrupt path or file or some sort of "check" that is failing, becuase the failure occurs so fast after trying to launch aperture. Maybe that doesn't make any sense but just a thought.
I hope that you may be able to provide some insight.  Thank you again for you time and I hope that you have a nice day!
    Mike

  • Unable to upload from iPhoto to FB after creating new library

Two days ago I exported all my photos/videos from iPhoto 09 to an EHD.  I created a new library - Library 2012 - and since have added about 50 photos and one 2-minute video.
I can click on "email" at the bottom of my iPhoto screen and successfully send images.
However, I cannot upload photos or videos to FB.  I start on my FB page, click "add photo/video".  In the good ole days, this took me to iPhoto and I could select my image.  Since creating Library 2012, I cannot access my library through any of the links that are on the screen that appears.  I've tried the following, all leading to a dead end:
Under Media > Photos:  Nothing populates the column to the right.
Under Places > Applications > iPhoto > "preview" of iPhoto populates column to the right.  Clicking it uploads the useless "preview"
Under Places > iPhoto Library 2012 > iPhoto Library 2012.  Clicking it uploads to the useless "preview"
(Note:  I had taken screenshots of the above, to better illustrate, but was unable to upload them to this forum as well.  Frustrating much?!)
I am just at my wits' end.  Any assistance will be appreciated.  TIA!

Thanks!  Apologies for the delay in reporting back - was off-line most of the weekend.
I just ran the repair permissions with Disk utility, as suggested.  A great number of permissions differed ... but, in the end, after it was completed and I re-booted, the same issue remains with iPhoto.
I'm now running "Permission Verify" just for the heck of it.

  • ADE - Library -NOOK Download

I have installed ADE with www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions; my computer program list says so. However, when I open the file I don't get the 'Setup Assistant' dialog box . . .  therefore I cannot continue to the activation screen to 'authorize the computer' to download books that I've checked-out of my local library. My local library access code is PL2361 + my 6 digit library card number. I'd like to put the books on my NOOK HD+.  What's befuddling me is that I am able to use ADE to put course reading material from Hillsdale College in the ADE Library to read on the computer.  If I'm not authorized, how does ADE get the college reading material? Is this an ADE problem, a computer problem, a local library problem,  a NOOK problem, or a ME problem? Helllllppppp!!!

It may be that the college reading material does not have DRM management, and that they provide .epub (or .pdf) files directly.
These files could then be downloaded, copied and read with no authorization; and indeed no need for ADE at all.
Your library books are probably provided via Overdrive, using Adobe DRM.
In that case, you should find an Overdrive app for your Nook HD+
    http://overdriveblogs.com/library/2012/10/02/overdrive-app-comes-to-nook%C2%AE/
With that you can check books out of the library direct to the Nook, and avoid PC/Mac and ADE completely if you prefer.

  • Delete files from directory?

I've ripped songs from CD's into a folder on my hard drive and named the folder "Ripped". I ripped them as MP3 files. Then I added those songs into my iTunes library. Are those songs copied into the iTunes library into some directory somewhere? Or are the entries in the iTunes library merely pointers to the original directory where the songs are stored? I want to delete the songs from the "Ripped" directory if they've been copied into an iTunes library directory. But if the iTunes library merely "points" to the original "Ripped" directory, I cannot delete the songs from "Ripped".
If the files are copied into a separate directory, where is that directory? And if they're copied, do they retain the original MP3 format?
**Sorry...I should have posted this in the iTunes discussions, not the iPod discussions.**

Open the Advanced section of the iTunes preferences and check whether iTunes is set to copy imported music to the iTunes music folder; you can also find the location of the iTunes music folder here.

  • Apple Unveils All-New iTunes U App for iPad, iPhone & iPod touch

A colleague just told me about this announcement from Apple -
Apple Unveils All-New iTunes U App for iPad, iPhone & iPod touch -
    http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2012/01/19Apple-Unveils-All-New-iTunes-U-App-for -iPad-iPhone-iPod-touch.html
Do any fellow iTunes U administrators know anything about this? How is existing content presented in the new app? Would we need to change anything? How do we access / make available the new features?
The new features sound fantastic but it would have been nice to have some warning. I appreciate that Apple has to keep specific details about developments confidential but it's slightly disconcerting that iTunes U administrators were not forewarned about this new development and that there has been no mention of it on this forum. Also - and at the risk of sounding like a broken record - it really would be helpful for iTunes U administrators to have a private forum (perhaps an add-on to Public Site Manager) where we could discuss issues and share ideas and best practice etc.

    Greetings Tom;
I watched the Apple's Keynote presentation and I'm amazed!  I'm really excited about the possibilities this opens up for educators.  I, like you am still processing all of the information and sorting out the possibilities.
Did you get the email about the Webcast on Wednesday the 25th at 10:00 AM PT that's going to cover the new iTunes U Corse Manager and how to publish through iTunes U Site Manager?  Hopefully this is available to you in the UK.  We'll keep in touch.  All the best...

  • Moving Itunes/songs on XP PC with multiple users

I have seen the good articles on moving songs/library from an old to a new PC and seems easy.
My concern is how this all works when I have three users/XP accounts on my old PC and each user has their own library, playlists, etc.. and I want to move all this to the new PC with the same users/XP accounts and not loose links and all. All three users "pull" the songs currently in the same iTunes folder but different song list of course in each users library from this iTunes folder.
Any help is appreciated as a lengthy forum search could not be located on this exact subject. I'm wondering if I have to repeat the procedure for each account that you do for a single account? Seems odd way though.
    Thanks

Thanks for such a quick and helpful reply Dave.
Sorry but the issue still nagging at me is do I have to Consolidate (which copies the songs from my current song location on the E drive to C:\My Documents per the below) into the My Documents Folder for each user and then transfer this My Document data for each user onto my external HD and then to the new PC and each users My Documents folder? So I would then transfer all the songs from my E Drive three times? My entire 30G music collection would then exist in three places in each users My Documents on the new PC? Sorry to be an idiot but I have a roadblock on this point.
Or maybe it is much simpler and when I consolidate all three users automatically have their library file pointers updated to point to the new "consolidated" location i.e. My Documents?
Once you have the method set up, you're going to have to prepare iTunes.
THE FOLLOWING METHOD CAUSES YOU TO LOSE YOUR FOLDER SCHEME. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE THE SETUP, AND/OR ARE MORE COMFORTABLE WITH MOVING THINGS MANUALLY, PLEASE SEE THE 'ADVANCED' SECTION AT THE BOTTOM
Open iTunes on the old computer, and hit Edit>Preferences>Advanced, and make sure that the folder listed is \My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music.
Next, hit Consolidate Music Library. This action is irreversible, and it will make sure that all of your music is put in the aforementioned iTunes Music folder. Shut iTunes, and move on.
Now you're going to have to move the info to the new computer. If you have an external hard drive, drag the iTunes folder, located within My Documents\My Music onto it. If you have a network set up, copy the iTunes folder to a location that can be accessed by the new computer.
Now, on the new computer, open either the external HDD, or the network folder, and copy the folder iTunes to the My Documents\My Music folder.
Start up iTunes, and everything should be in place.
