Still Image Transitions

I'm doing a textbook all about images. I want to compare A/B/C images in place on the page with just a simple cut between them. And as I compose the page, that's just what it looks like.
But then I take the eBook to my New iPad and the transitions are not what I saw. They're a "too-clever-by-half" useless slide-the-new-picture-in-from-the-left" transition.
How do I get images to simply change without all that bogus fru-fru?

I reminded my team of developers just this morning that what we are doing is so very new, it'd not be too much of a stretch to say that the number of people in the world having conversations like ours could probably be counted on one's appendages.
We are working through some 3-D developments that are going to be pretty cool when we release 2012: Science and Prophecy of the Ancient Maya next month.  It will be the only interactive book on the iPad about the 2012 meme and whether or not we're all going to die on Dec. 21, 2012!  In it, we will have videos of 14 of the world's top Mayanist scholars, 3-D animations, and other cool stuff.
We've created a page on my business site:http://claxtoncreative.com/2012/iba-resources/ where I'm beginning to list resources and thought leaders as I find them.
In the past 24 hours, I've also found http://www.ibook-widgets.com/signup/ that will be launching in June.
We are the self-appointed leaders in this arena.  That's good and bad.  KT is as brilliant, even better, as being able to read an online manual would be, so if you ask him the right technical question, you'll likely get an answer in short order.

  • CS3 Premiere Still Image Ghost Effect Before Transition

I have a timeline with photos that I have automated to the timeline using the default transition between photos. When I render out the video and burn it to disc (the images with dark or black backgrounds are the most noticable) you can see the next image in line that is to be shown briefly through the image that is currently on screen. It's almost like a ghosting effect of the next image like it is in a holding pattern waiting to dissolve into the image. This seems to occur throughout the timeline but as I said, it is much more obvious on images with dark or black backgrounds.
I'm pretty sure I've had this problem in the past and don't remember how I resolved it. In rendering, I render out to an NTSC DV AVI file and import into Encore 2 and let Encore 2 handle the file rendering.
If someone could enlighten me on what the issue may be that I could quickly resolve, I would appreciate it. In the meantime, I will try other ways of kicking the file out to see if I get any better desired results.
    Thanks in advance.

can you put a screenshot of your timeline with the still images on it here ???? that might help us see what your transistions
are doing etc...tell us more about what transition you're using ( cross dissolve ? ..) stuff like that...

  • Problem with pixelly still images but GREAT transitions/ken burns....

I'm creating a slide show to be projected on a 9' screen by a projector that has 1024X768 resolution. I resized all my jpegs to 1024 by 768 and dumped them into iMovie due to the fact that I want lots of different lengths and transitions/fades/Ken Burns FX for different still photos (as opposed to just creating a slideshow from iPhoto).
My Problem is that after I burned in iDVD at "highest quality" and I project on the big screen, the non-FX photos look pixelled and the transitions/pans/zooms etc are fine! When editing on my cinema display everything looks fine too. The pixelization is just annoying and I'm wondering of I missed a step in the send to iDVD process, or if maybe the transitions are rendered and the non-FX still parts are not?
    Any ideas GREATLY appreciated!

projector that has 1024X768 resolution. I resized all my jpegs to 1024 by 768
You didn't have to do the downscaling because NTSC DV is scaled to 720x480 in the end no matter what.
non-FX photos look pixelled and the transitions/pans/zooms etc are fine!
So obviously the cause was this ancient iMovie bug that haunts the poor users:
Basically iMovie renders jaggy stills when sending them to tape or iDVD.
On the other hand, Ken-Burnsed images, transitions/pans/zooms are immune to that bug because they are converted to video before that bug has a chance to destroy them.

  • Render high quality 15 minute clip of still images with transitions - After Effects CC 2014

Hello, I am rendering a 15 minute composition comprised of a 3 high quality still images (5 mins for each image) with basic blur fades between each still at a res of 1440x900.
Rendering this out as a Quicktime movie is taking forever and results in a HUGE file size, can someone please recommend an alternative that will not sacrifice video quality?
    Thanks!

He can't give you any specific advice because you didn't give us any specific information. How you are delivering your video makes a HUGE difference in what render settings you would use. If you're planning to send it for use in an NLE like Premiere, the advice would be different from if you were wanting to upload it to YouTube. Thus, he linked you to a resource that could best help you based on the limited information you provided.

  • Adding a photo/still image to start of movie freezes on that image and doesn't transition to rest of movie

I have basically completed my movie with images, audio clips and background audio.  I want to add one more still image to the start of the movie but when I do that and try to play my movie, it freezes on that one image I just added (yet continues to play the audio for the rest of the movie).  I took my problem to the Apple store today and they had no clue how to fix (said it must be a bug) and just suggested I export the movie then import it again into a new movie.  But when I do that I lose the quality of the images considerably.  I am 99% done with the movie and just need this title image inserted in.
Any ideas why this might be happening or how to resolve without re-building the entire movie again?

    Some things to try.
    1) shut down iMovie and turn off your Mac. Then restart your Mac and start iMovie. This will give iMovie the maximum amount of memory available.
    2) Have you tried sharing the movie? Does the problem exist in the shared version?
    3) What kind of image and what are the dimensions? e.g. JPEG 4000x6000

  • Shaky still images in burned iMovie/iDVD project

Hello all, I've stopped by the discussion forums in the past for quick fixes to problems when they come up, this is my first post though that doesn't seem to address anything I've found on here...
I am working on a project that takes scanned pictures from regular print photos into iMovie 6 and then burned into iDVD 6. I have done this similar style of work several times and never run into this problem. The project looks fine in both iMovie and iDVD preview, and burns fine to disc. As soon as it is popped into a DVD player, some of the still images flash and shake around, it appears to happen on the same images every time.
The original project used about 100 photos, around 12 minutes of movie time. It uses only still pictures and there are cross dissolve transitions between each one. I have tried dragging and dropping the iMovie project into iDVD instead of using 'share'. I also saved as a disk image and burned slowly (4x) not only on my SuperDrive but on an external LaCie drive. I've even started a brand new project file, imported the pictures again from iPhoto and everything... still no luck. I've done about 5 trials now with these different settings, no luck. I use Verbatim DVD-r disks as well...
I've even tried scanning a few images and replacing them, thinking the file might be corrupted, but this isn't fixing the problem. Is there some setting that I'm missing or any other suggestions you have?
I'm trying to save a trip down to see a genius, but if I can't get any help I'll have no choice but to make the 3 hour drive to the nearest apple store. Hopefully someone has some suggestions! Thanks!

    Hi
    A. I don't use the *Share/Export to iDVD* function in iMovie. iMovie rendering can harm
    the photos in a movie.
I do: close iMovie, Open iDVD and import the movie project here (icon with a Star on it)
or just drop the icon into iDVD.
    B. Some photos with thin lines most often starts to flicker when viewed on a TV.
I do: In a photo editing program eg PhotoShop or Elements: Apply *Gausian blurr*.
Just slightly. Resulting in non-flickering photos.
    C. One can rather easily find out if this will occure by:
    • Connect Your miniDV (tape) Camera via FireWire.
    • Analog out of Camera to a TV-set
    • Set in iMovie. Playback via Camera
Now You see on the TV what the final Quality will be like.
    • Flicker (add Gausian Blurr to those photos)
    • Color, brightness & contrast
    • Over all playback rythm and sound

  • How to extend audio from a video clip over an adjacent still image

I'm in iMovie 11.  My project looks like this: video A, transition, still image B, transition, video C.  I want the sound from video C to start playing while still image B is on the screen.  I tried following the iMovie 11 help instructions for extending a video clip's audio.  I click on video C and open the precision editor.  From there I can grab video C and move it back so that it overlaps with the still image, but all that happens is the still image still shows up, without sound, and video clip C starts in the middle.  The help instructions seem to indicate that I should be able to drag only the audio and make that overlap the still image, but it's not happening.  Either the video and audio move together, or nothing moves.
When I try detatching video C from its audio, I just end up with a big mess because later the audio and video don't synch up.
    What am I doing wrong?

I am having the same challenge... any tips here would help me out in a big way. I recorded my boss tdoing a training session and now I would like to have the powerpoint slides change as necessary - but I want the audio to remain. I would love to just get the slides to change rather than back to full before bringing up the next slide. Jim, if you come up with anything, let me know. I have VC2 pro.

  • Still images turn to black backgrounds in the exported movie

I am still using Premiere 2.0. I produced a ca. 25 min project with still images at the beginning and at the end and short videoclips in between. Still images are only ca. 40-50 kB large. When working on it I occasionally got a few problems (e.g. an audio transition across two clips was making Premiere hanging up) but I could easily get around them and successfully preview the project and export it to a folder and directly to a DVD. However, when viewing the movie on TV I found out that almost all (BUT NOT ALL!) the still images had turned into black backgrounds. I have exported the movie as MPEG, more still images were fine but not all of them. I have tried to drastically reduce the number of still images (max 5) but nome of them were fine. I do not have any error message and this problem is driving me crazy! Does anyone have a brilliant idea?
Last year I bought the new version of Premiere (3.0 I believe, surely not 7.0) but I stopped using it after one week because there was no way to successfully export the project I was working on. I made several videos, always got problems but so far I always found a solution on Premiere forum. Hope this time too!
    Many thanks for the attention

Try sizing your photos to 1000x750 pixels in size.
Also, right-click on each photo on the timeline and select Field Options and check the Flicker Removal box.
These will give you the best quality.
I am also concerned, however, that you are having technical problems and, especially, that you can not use a newer version of the program.
I'd recommend you install the latest version of Quicktime and the newest RealTek drivers, as we recommend in our FAQ.

  • Still image issues (I've already read the other similar post- didn't apply)

Still having issues with still images in my timeline. Viewer they're fine, Canvas they're repulsive.
Seq. settings are NTSC, 29.97, 48k. I have tried several different extensions for the stills and have even tried importing them at different sizes. I know I'm not the first person to incorporate stills in my timeline - how do I solve this? (I followed the advice on a similar thread from a few days ago).
Also, I exported a small clip and viewed it on a different computer as a QT file and it was just as bad.
Please help. I'll make you a mix cd or a burrito if you can help me out. Thanks.

    #1 Transitions "Insufficient Content"
Shane's Stock Answer #1: Trying to add a Transition and get the error "Insufficient Content"
A full 1 second cross fade reaches 15 frames into each clip. So, if you want to change a cut to a cross fade, there has to be at least 15 additional frames of each clip. Say you're trying to cross fade from one clip into the very first frame of a second clip. FCP cannot 'create' 15 more frames of the second clip to do a cross fade. If they're not there, you're out of luck.
What you are running into is that you are marking an out point at the far edges of a clip then adding a cross dissolve, say 30 frames (one second) in duration. Since the dissolve is centered on the cut, it will start 15 frames before the cut, and try to go 15 frames AFTER the cut...which it can't do. What you need to do is plan how long your dissolve will be and back-time your cut so that it works.
You need to make sure that your clips have enough media (called 'handles') at the beginning of the incoming clip and at the end of the outgoing clip for the transition. For example, if you have a 1 second (30 frame) dissolve, your in and out point need to be at least 15 frames from the edge of the clip.
    I have them all here:

    Most of them...I keep adding.
one of the most popular is number 8:
Shane's Stock Answer #8: External Monitor Viewing
If you are working with DV, this is simple. First connect your computer to a camera or deck via firewire, Then connect the camera/deck to your TV/Monitor via RCA or S-Video.
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Go to the View Menu, choose > External video > all frames
VIEW>Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
VIEW>Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section.
If you are working with HDV footage, FCP 6 allows you to view this via firewire, but ONLY as downconverted DV. It won't look the best, but you can see it. To do this,
If you need to view any format other than DV at full resolution, then you need to look into capture cards. Several standard definition and high definition models are available from www.aja.com and www.decklink.com. With these options you'll need a proper monitor to view full broadcast colors, but all models allow for realtime standard definition downconvert, allowing you to view HD on an SD monitor.
The Matrox MXO is another option that is output only, but allows you to view your footage on an Apple Cinema Display at full broadcast quality.

  • Still images appear shaky.

Hi, I'm trying to burn a video I made in Final Cut to DVD, and when I watch the quicktime version of the video, everything is fine, but whenever I put it to dvd, these two stills come out shaky. What I did in Final Cut was freeze frame a shot when I wanted to transition. It looks great output from Final Cut, but whenever I burn it through iDVD, just the two still images are very shaky. What am I doing wrong? I am not sure how to adjust the burn speed if maybe that is the problem. It's just a regular 4:3, and I have tried both best quality, and best performance outputs. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi Joseph
My bet is - this is due to interlaceing.
I would make new freeze frames - but +/- 1 frame from Your selected one.
I have connected my Camera via FW to Mac and to analog out a TV-set.
Now I can judge the result better and I think I can track those vibrating
freeze frames better by looking at the TV.
You could try to save out the freeze frames and use JES Deinterlacer and see
if this might remove every second line and replace them with the odd no.
    => Stop flickering.
Other flickerings originate in photos with very thin lines - to solve this I open
the photo in PhotoShop and apply Gausian Blurr => slightly unsharp but
a much more enjoyable picture on TV.

  • What PS file settings are used for still images for FCE?

I have images to use/create for the titles and transitions in my first FCE4 project. Using Photoshop CS6, the preset for File > New > Film & Video has the prest size and pixel aspect ratio selections.  I thought to use this with HDV 1080p/29.97 and HDV1080/DVCPRO HD 720 (1.33) for any images I need for the project.
Most discussions I see only refer to the pixel size reference for HD image sizes, but nothing addressing the pixel aspect ratio setting for the image.  Are these settings ignored in PS and handled in FCE only? Or does it make better quality images to get this "right" in PS when creating the still image?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm not quite sure I understand your question. In an ideal world, the graphic material you build in PS should match the sequence settings you intend to edit them into - so, if for no other reason, it reduces the amount of reformatting FCE has to do when rendering them.
But frequently you want to build graphics larger than the frame size of the sequence so that you can re-size and reposition the graphic within FCE without losing quality.
The apparent pixel aspect ratio of your graphic can be controlled with FCE by editing the graphic to the timeline, double clicking on the clip in the timeline, and when that timeline clip opens in the viewer, click on the motion tab and adjust the Aspect Ratio Paddle (this is the correction for a 1920 x1080 square pixel clip being placed into an HDV 1440 x 1080 timeline):
In Photoshop, you can change the way your work is displayed by going to the menu View > Pixel Aspect Ratio:
    Does any of this help?

  • How do i get a still image to fade the same way and at the same time as a video?

I have a video stacked on top of a still image. When i add a transition, the still turns to a black screen while the video fades in accordance to the transition. How do i get the still image to fade the same way and at the same time as the video?

I do. I've applied it to both the  still image and the video. Say i used the lens flare transition. If i apply it to both the video and the still image, the video will dissolve in to the next frame, but the still image will go to a black screen and then jump to the next frame. Its almost as if i inserted a black frame instead of a transition, but only for 2 seconds. Below is kind of a peek what it looks like.

  • Need Help Pasting Key Frames from one still image to others, and Changing the duration of multiple still images.

I'm working on a stop motion project, and I have at least a thousand still images to work with.
I have adjusted several Key Frame settings on the 1st still image in my project, such as
    Brightness
    Cropping
    Scale
    Position
I now want to apply these exact settings to hundreds of still images at a time that make up one scene in the project (but not all still images in the entire project).. Is there a way to paste or easily transfer them?
Also, there are scenes I'm working on in which I want to change the image duration of hundreds of photos at once, but not change to duration of all images in the project, is this possible?
I've looked at several different web-links, but none of them have what I'm looking for. If you can please help me, I'd be willing to send you $10 through paypal. Knowledge is power; the solution to these problems would save me hours of time. If you don't fully understand my questions I can send you a pictures or a video, pointing out my needs.

    Stan,
    Thanks again for your input.
When the project is created, I don't recall seeing the preference settings until after the project opens the first time.  In that case if certain media was imported into the project panel but not in the sequence, after the duration was changed, it would be necessary to remove the media from the project panel then re-import again.  If there is a workaround to this please let me know.  It also doesn't appear that creating a new sequence would prevent the re-importing.  Could you confirm?
Thanks for the link on automating to sequence--I remember that from CS4.
The application of identical effects to media on the timeline in a sequence was something I had learned back in CS3 or maybe earlier CS4 where the effected, in this case a transition between images was applied then copied then using the paste or (Control V) command, applied to all other stills.  That worked fine but with lots of images, it ends up being a lot of "point and clicks" since the CTI must be moved to each transition insertion point before the paste is applied.
I actually thought that I had seen someone select the remainder of the images in the sequence then apply the paste command but I was never able to make that work.  Have you heard of such a short-cut?
    Much thanks again!!

  • Best practices for creating movie from still images?

I have created an architectural model in *someone else's* software, and animated a camera in *someone else's* software, and rendered that out to still images.  I rendered every 5th frame (for a total of 401 frames) in order to save time on rendering.  My goal is to create a short movie (2 minutes) of the camera flying around the building.
When I imported all of the images, I stretched the duration so that they equally fit the 2 minutes, and used the keyframe assistant to sequence the layers.  Now that I've done that, the movie is choppy (as I expected it to be, since I only rendered every 5th frame).  Does anyone have suggestions as to what effect or transition can be used to smooth the sequence out?  Or am I living in a dreamland and I need to go back and render every single frame?  Is this even the software I should be using?  I'm obviously a n00b, so any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Using After Effects CS4 (9.0.0.346) on Windows 7 64-bit

Or am I living in a dreamland and I need to go back and render every single frame?
You are. There is no effect that could automatically synthesize those missing frames even halfway realistically. Timewarp and Twixtor are only gonna make things look like a smear even with a lot of tweaking. By the time you have tweaked their settings and done all your masking and otehr corrections, your 3D render with all frames will be finished just as well and offer better quality.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 7 - Selecting Multiple Still Images for Time Stretch

    Hi,
I have Adobe Premiere Elemetns 7. I would like to be able to select multiple still images on the timeline so that I can timestretch them all at the same time.
I understand that you can do this when you drag the photos over to the sceneline, then get the dialog box that asks for the time duration or transition duration. I would like to do this after they have been placed on the timeline though.
I would like to put say an hour of music on the music line, then drag over say 400 photos, then timestretch the photos such that thier time matches the music timeline. Smartsound does not seem to find the music on my computer to do this, I would like to use my own music.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Tonight why don't you download the free 30 tryout of Premiere Elements 8, check out the feature of interest in particular, and determine if it is worth it. Check out it's stability in your computer environment. You do not have to uninstall Premiere Elements 7. When you install Premiere Elements 8, the installation process detects prior versions and tells you that you do not have to uninstall them, just use one at a time.
Depending on how things go, get on the phone to Adobe Customer Service Monday morning and be pleasant but determined, express your need for the new feature(s), and request an exchange, the new for the old. As a last resort, request your money back for version 7.
Please update us on your progress. But, in the back of your mind, keep the old thought of "be careful what you wish for". You may win one with the duration feature but lose some ground with stability and other features.
