  • How do I get address bar to show up on tabs? How do I stop computer from immediately redirecting me to newly opened tab?

Apologies for my ignorance, first off. I am using a new laptop and want the settings to be the same as those of my former laptop. However, I have no clue how to adjust settings. On my former laptop, the address bar was always displayed on each new tab I opened. Also, when I opened a new tab, I was not redirected to that tab. Instead, I was able to remain on the website I was using when I opened the new tab. So, how do I get the address bar to show up on all webpages and how do I stop the computer from immediately taking me to each new tab I open?

    You can use:
    * Tools > Options > Tabs: [ ] "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately"
You can toggle this setting for specific links by holding down Shift and middle clicking or Ctrl left clicking a link.
Do you mean that the Navigation Toolbar gets hidden?

  • How to stop computer from going to lock screen after 15 minutes (Windows 8.1)

My laptop was going to lockscreen after 15 minutes. I adjusted power settings and went to advanced screen, adjusted that and ......no change.  Now somebody somewhere said that my system settings were overriding my power settings and that helped. I
did this and things were fixed. But now, it's gone back to 15 minute thing, which is a pain when I'm watching, say, a movie. And, I don't remember what I did before to fix it, and I can't find the information anywhere!  Help!!!

    Hi,
Seems we all missed an important option:
Please click "Settings" in the right charm bar, then "Change PC Settings"\"PC and device"\"Lock Screen",
Turn off "When my PC is inactive, show the lock screen instead of turning off the screen"
You can change the inactive time with security policy:
Click Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Local Security Policy> Local Policies> Security Options> Interactive Logon: Machine Inactivity Limit>set the time you want.
After you change the policy setting, run gpupdate /force

  • How do I stop pages from locking my documents when I don't access them for a while?

Every time I open up a document I've not looked at for a little while, Pages decides to lock it. It's not a big deal, it's just an annoyance with absolutely no obvious use that I wish I could be rid of.

You can't turn it off entirely, but you can change the period of time before documents lock in the Options tab of Time Machine Preferences.

  • Stop Dreamweaver from Locking Local Files?

    Using Dreamweaver's check-in/check-out system, Dreamweaver
automatically locks a local file when it's checked in, i.e., the
local copy of the file is set to read-only. Does anyone know of a
way to disable this? I would like for Dreamweaver not to lock the
local files when I check them in to the remote (server) site.
    Thanks,
    Ted

Ted - that's the wrong setup for checkin/checkout to work
    anyhow.
You cannot share a local site. Each person must have their
    own local site,
and share a staging server location. Checkin/checkout would
    then provide
some measure of security if that is the case.
    Set up two site definitions:
    1. Local site is local, remote site is staging server.
    Everyone uses this
site to work on their piece of the action. Nobody can check
    out a file that
someone else already has checked out.
    2. Local site is staging server, remote site is production
    server. Only
the project leader uses this site, and they only use it to
    PUSH files to the
    production server.
    Make sense?

  • Labview stops when computer is locked

We are running Labview 2011.  After some time of no user interaction the computer is locked by Windows XP.  Supposedly programs should be able to keep running while the computer is locked.  My Labview code doesn't.  Does anyone know what's going on?
The code I have controls a temperature chamber and some data multiplexere and acquires data from a frequency counter (all done through a RS-232 to USB adapter).  This is logged to a .csv file every 10 or 15 minutes.

Another chance to push a Plug-n-Play FAQ
FAQ 1 : My USB device stops working unexpectedly.
The first thing to look at is the OS power saving options.  There is a global trend towards developing "Green" electronics and energy star ratings are getting fairly common.  "If its not being used shut it off" is nothing new.  Cavemen learned how to bank a fire to preserve energy that would otherwise be wasted.  Likewise, the Windows OS has a power saving feature to shut down power to the USB hubs when no user activity is present.  In Automated systems this feature can cause problems since removing USB hub power will shut down the USB device.   Solution: Use the device manager to change the USB hub Power Options.
The really funny thing is the first time I posted this the OP turned out to be the contractor sitting next to me at the time.

It sounds like you're running Lion?
Have you tried running Verify and/or Repair Disk?
Have you tried running Repair Permissions?

  • How can I stop Firefox from loading automatically when I startup my computer?

A while ago I setup Windows so Outlook and Firefox opened automatically when I log on. Now I want to stop FF from opening automatically. I have gone into the Startup folder and removed the shortcut to FF several times but it keeps coming back. I changed the name of Mozilla Firefox in the Windows Programs Directory to xxMozilla Firefox and that didn't keep it from loading. If necessary, I will remove FF from my computer altogether but I would rather not do that.

Aaarg! I tried Matt's suggestion of using msconfig, restarted my computer, and it seemed to solve the problem. Today when I turned on the computer it hung up before loading Windows. I had to use the F12 button to get it to load. I did and it did and Firefox did not load.
Now, this evening, I turned on the computer, the startup procedure was normal, and there's Firefox fired up and ready to go!

My wife and I share a computer, but different Itunes accounts. How do I stop itunes from synchronising her apps to my phone?

If the music is on the same computer, import the songs to your iTunes library by dragging them into iTunes or choosing File > Add to Library (Mac) or File > Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library (Windows).  If the music is on different computers you can set up Home Sharing to copy the music from one library to the other (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620).

  • How do I stop aluminium wireless keyboard from waking computer from sleep?

    Hi
My aluminium wireless keyboard wakes my computer from sleep, at random occasions. Sometimes after five minutes, other times up to four hours. Sometimes not at all. My iMac wakes up (annoyingly during the night, waking me up as well) and screen says "Connection Lost", showing the greyed out keyboard-logo. It's not lying either—keyboard doesn't work, for about 30 sec until the stupid thing finds it again and all is back to normal.
*What can I do to stop this irrational behavior?*
Could this be a bluetooth hardware-malfunction?
(Background: My iMac has been acting this way, as far as I can recall, throughout all of the 10.6.X-upgrades—from time to time. Reason I am posting this now is that I haven't had this problem for a couple of months now, but it came back out of nowhere the other night, about a week ago. And I haven't been doing anything out of the ordinary, that I haven't done at least a couple of times during this period where it all worked fine.)
Additional information: I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem at hand, but when using the bluetooth for something other than just keyboard+mouse, say syncing my Nokia phone, the mouse always goes haywire and acts all laggy, trickling across the screen as I try to move it.

Yes, that sounded indeed like a daft question, but as it seems changing the batteries did actually solve the puzzle. I am baffled by this, as the batteries claimed to be at 40% and shouldn't need to be changed. But I changed them after reading your reply, and the problem stopped. Now, one week and a couple of days later, the problem still has not reoccurred.
For one reason or another, once batteries drop under a certain level of power, the keyboard connection will start acting up. I feel a bit silly, should have checked that bit myself before posting my question, but I'm glad this solved my problem. Thank you ajduguid.

  • How can I stop Foxfire from automatically loading when I turn on my computer that runs on Windows Vista?

Foxfire automatically loads when I boot up my computer after all the other essential programs boot up. I'd like to know how to disable the start-up menu link that allows the program to load up when the computer first starts up because the Foxfire browser isn't needed when I first start the computer. Besides, when I first start my computer, it's inevitably not hooked to the internet and it's just a bit annoying to see foxfire load when it's not needed. Furthermore, it takes up precious memory in the RAM when it's running, thus slowing down my machine. Please, someone show me how to keep this program from booting when I start up my computer. By the way, my system is Windows Vista and Foxfire does not show up in the start-up folder. Only by going to the default program page and clicking on Foxfire does it show that Foxfire has a hidden default that makes it start when the computer starts. All I'm looking for is to not see it when I boot my computer.

Thanks for pointing me to the link about the startup programs changes. I found the solution there. Foxfire was hiding in the hidden startup menu. Once I found it using msconfig, I was able to stop it from loading when I started my computer. Again, thanks for the help.
