Stop new connections to an instance

I have a 10.2.0.3 production RHEL4 Linux 64-bit RAC cluster of two nodes. I need to perform some OS maintenance on node1 in the near future, but not on node2 just yet. I would like to stop all new database connections from being sent to node1.
Since this is 10.2.0.3, I know I can just stop the nodeapps on this node and this will prevent any new connections to it. Is there a better way to do this though? I don't see anything wrong with this approach, but I just wanted to see if there is an easier/better way. I'm sure I could also just stop the listener for this node also with the same results. Any thoughts if this has any advantages over stopping the whole nodeapps? Are there any additional ways to accomplish what I want? Thanks.

a: stop the service on that node is the recommended and best way.
or even alter system enable restricted.

  • New connections stop working after 31 hours of computer uptime.

I have been using a pppoe connection since I installed archlinux in 2006. This works very well. a network cable is connected to my computer and I use it to dial a pppoe connection. I never had any problems with it.
But a while ago, I thought I would share this connection with my phone so I got a router out of the closet. the ISP's cable is connected to the router now. then my computer is connected to the router with a cable and gets a connection through the router's DHCP server. the phone establishes a wireless connection to the phone.
the lease time is 9 hours.
Now after exactly 31 hours, current connections on computer continue to work (existing downloads) but the computer stops doing new connections. so I cannot browse the internet.
    /etc/rc.d/network restart doesn't help
    restarting the router doesn't help.
only a computer restart does. how can I troubleshoot the problem?
if I connect the cable directly to my network card at this stage, I can dial the pppoe connection and use internet. it's only connections router through 192.168.1.1 that stop working.
PS. I don't have a windows installation so I have no idea where the problem lies.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6799 … tain-sites some guy on archlinux has a similar problem.
    here's a wireshark log from two occasions. http://hussam.eu.org/capture.zip http://hussam.eu.org/capture2.zip
    some notes:
    1. rmmoding the network card driver and modprobing it again doesn't help
    2. I hibernated for 10 minutes and I was able to extend it by 10 minutes. I actually did try this once before too. I hibernated for an hour and I was able to extend it to 32 hours (31 awake time + one hour hibernation).
    3. http://192.168.1.1 will still open.
    4. I have to do traceroute -I or -T.   router seems to block traceroute without arguments or traceroute -U.

  • Ora-12528 all appropriate instances are blocking new connections

    hi,
i get an error 'ora-12528 all appropriate instances are blocking new connections'
i have changed shared_servers parameters. from there itself i get the error

With zero substantive information about your environment, it is impossible to know for sure.
But, if you've just set SHARED_SERVERS=0, for example, and your tnsnames.ora has a line in it that says (SERVER=SHARED), then your client is demanding the use of shared servers which don't exist. You can therefore expect the sort of error you're getting.
The fix is to remove the explicit demand for shared servers in the tnsnames.ora. Just remove the line (or, not quite such good practice, set it to DEDICATED).

  • TNS: listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections.

    Hello,
when I start up my freshly installed developerday VB appliance, and try to connect to the database, following the tutorial in "Hands-on lab" - "SQL developer", as well as with any other attempt, the connection would not establish. I always get a message ORA-12528: TNS: listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections.
I cannot find any Readme or Tutorial which explains this appearance.
Weird, that obviously nobody else runs into this problem, otherwise this forum would be full of it. But isn't the VB appliance byte-for-byte the same for anybody?
    Any ideas?

Hi Marco, thanks for replying. You can read the OS version from the lsnctl output. The OS of the host system of the Virtual Box is Windows7 64-bit. Hmm... "HOST=0.0.0.0" looks suspicious, doesn't it?

  • ORA-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections

I'm working with OBIEE 11.1.1.5, with Ora DB 11.2.
Suddenly, the OBIEE is not accessible.
The logs showed that the issue is DB connectivity.
When I try to enter directly to the DB via sqlplus I get the error:

I tried restarting server, DB, listener, but nothing helped.
I've Googled and saw that I need to unregister some old connections, which were not closed correctly, i.e. entering DB and delete some records,
but I cannot login to the sqlplus.
I failed login as sys, system, scott - on the same error.
How can I solve this issue?

Does anybody have an idea about why this error is comming.

    Thanks for your help.

I don't use SID in my tnsnames.ora, i use SERVICE_NAME and it's OK. May be someone who have configured iot's tnsnames made it wrong because there consultant installaing new application in our company and may be their tnsnames was wrong and causing that problem. Because in their application it always tries to connect in the database till connection will be established and may be it increase the database session number.
Isn't it and when session max number is reached may be database connection will hang.
Correct me if it is the case, we will have a look in their applivcation tnsnames configuration.
    Thanks

This was working fine until we changed the IP of the gateway and moved its ethernet connection to "outside" the firewall. I re-installed the gateway software to make sure I didn't miss anything other than platform.conf. I have the webproxy enabled for the bookmarks channel and that is working. I have holes in the firewall for the proxy, LDAP and HTTPS ports.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Roger S.

The gateway has to be tuned substantially to get good performance.
The tuning needs to be based on your load
e.g how many netlet connections, how many concurrent users you expected to handle etc ..
the default min heap size and max heap size need to change it. You can go upto a max of 2 Gb but I would recommend starting with a smaller heap size of 500 M and see how your performance goes.
The min and max heap size should always be the same for better performance. If your using netlets then you have to change the thread parameter. Each netlet connection uses two threads so if your using a large number of netlet connections then your thread count needs to 500 at a minimum to support 200 concurrent netlet sessions. Increasing the thread pool will also use more memory as each thread uses a min of 512 K of memory. The thread stack size needs to be set to 128 K.
These are the initial things to start with, you can also set jvm option -verbose:gc to enable gc logs. This will show memory usage.
These are good things to start with ..

    Hi all,
I have a problem with MSVC7.1 and the OCCI library. I am getting an unhandled exception error when trying to create a new connection:

  • Error during connect to the instance Content Server MAXDB-XSERVER Receive

We rebooted this mornning a PROD Instance with SAPDB!
Second Instance is a Content Server. Now, we got an error during connect via
    DBM Gui to Maxdb 7.6.06.04
    2011-08-19     10:06:32     577 ERR     11926     XSERVER Receive packet, Ref:8 - socket recv error (110:Connection timed out
Environment variable : 1. Insctance PROD
                                         2. Instance  Prod Content Server
We couldnt connect to the database Instnce via DBMgui and also DB50 all collected data are visible, but its possible to start
DBACOCKPIT, analyse DB analyser : Message
Info Size of data cache 260306 pages, 99.98% in use, size of converter cache 1762 pages
Its seems so regarding to the Info of DB Analyser: Instance CSP (sap1) is up since 2011-06-10 12:20:10 that the Content server
didnt recognize that there was a boot this morning!!
In DBACOCKPIT it seems to be o.k. ! We could not boot the PROD Host asap again, because of the maintenance time window!
Where we could check more featur. of the content server. The processes seems to be o.k.!

    > Near the same problem occurs on our backup content server MAXDB!
    > The backup runs during this situation a expanded longer time as normal. I get in DBM Gui today always the error code -4 socket recieve error, the Icon goes green, but there isnt any possibility to analyse the check area -> Diagnosis Files, to improof the status via gui! Via tc DBACOCKPIT i could connect to the instance and get some data! For example, If i try to stop the DB analsyser, its not possible.
I would stop the full gui and also end all dbm*.exe processes in the task manager and start it new.

  • AS 70SR2 (WP's) stops when connecting to upgraded system.

    Hi,
I have installed an application server (NW7.0SR2) for our new ECC60 sandbox, which is upgraded from 4.6C. The AS and the DB server are on 2 different hosts.
When I try to start the AS it seems to work but the processes dies. The AS server is 64bit W2K3 ENT SP2 R2 with 12GB RAM.
I would really appreciate some input:)

  • How to create a new connection from SAPGUI to Test drive?

    Hi,
I have installed Sap Netweaver Test drive on a linux virtual machine (windows host). The installation was successful and I was able to start the instance (application server and the database), yet I don't know how to create a new connection from my SAPGUI client (7.20) to this server. The static IP address of the server is 192.168.1.160.
I entered the following values for my new connection entry
    Description: SAP Netweaver
    Application server: 192.168.1.160
    Instance number: 01
    System ID: DB2
    SAProuter: /H/192.168.1.160/S/3201/H/
But it does not work. Any idea about the values needed  for creating a new entry?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dariyoosh

    Hello there,
Thank you very much for your answer which solved my problem. In fact there was no need of providing router string.
    Kind Regards,
