Stopping mail download based on title

Is there any way of stopping Mail from downloading an email based on the subject of the email? As in not downloading the message is a certain word or string appears in the title?
Thanks in advance,
Dr J

does not seem to be a raliable approach to have ACK --> Mail --> BPM scenario.....why cant the end system send the message directly to the BPM that would be much better design approach.....also what time does it take for the 3rd party to respond back with the Ack message?

  • How to stop mail downloading ALL of my hotmail emails

Basically I am setting up Mail, and it is downloading ALL of my hotmail emails... there's 1623 of them! How can I stop this? Perhaps letting it only download emails from the past 2 weeks etc?

What version of [Mac] OS X are you running on your Mac? (Your profile says iOS 7.0.1, but that system is for iPhones and iPads, not Macs.)
If you are running a recent version of OS X, Mail should have a mailbox group named "FLAGGED" in the left sidebar. Click on it to view all flagged messages; click on one of the flag colors listed under it to view messages flagged with that color.

  • HUGE e-mail downloading, how can I stop it?

Every time I load Mail and check my emails I get the download icon rotating endlessly - this only started two nights ago but no matter how long I wait one email doesn't finish downloading, and believe it or not I've left the Mac running for over eight hours! Smaller emails load ok but this huge file seems to be taking forever even on 512k broadband. I have to force-quit Mail to stop the download but everytime I restart, there it is again. How on earth can I get rid of this file, or check what it is? I'm not expecting anything and it's really annoying!!

Hi Folks - thanks for your replies so far!
To clarify - this message has been wiped from my server by webmail access and my inbox there is now empty (pop3 account); however the message in my inbox (and all 11 copies) is quite strange in that firstly there is no visible content until I click on the header - when it appears as an undeliverable mail message - and secondly it is marked as junk (Mail thinks this message is junk) but does not moved automatically to the junk folder and I have to do so manually, whereupon they all disappear from the inbox. Once I close and return to the inbox, there they are again. They don't appear in the junk even when I try to manually move them. This is off-line. I cannot find them and cannot delete them, but everytime I return to the inbox after trying to wipe them, there they are again - plus one more! It's very very annoying!

To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to prevent the automatic downloading of the SD version when you buy an HD show.
You can, if you wish, suggest that the ability to prevent the SD version from downloading through the iTunes feedback page. But since the SD version is needed for use on iPods and there at least at present is no mechanism for someone to download the SD version at a later time should they decide they need it, Apple may just continue to force the downloading of both versions. If they get enough feedback on the issue, though, they may figure something out.

  • Cannot stop Apple Mail download.v

Since upgrading my Air to Mountain Lion, I cannot turn off the automatic download of email. First I set the preferences to download mail only manually, but that didn't work. Then I went into every account and unchecked "Include this account when getting mail," and that didn't work. Mail has its own idea, and I don't like it. Can I stop Mail from downloading messages?
    Thanks.

There is an option in the Gereal tab in Mail to 'Check for new messages' have you set that to Manual? The default appears to be every 5 minutes.

  • How to stop e-mail downloads once in email app

Really annoying thing: First, it's bad enough that you HAVE to download e-mails as soon as you press the e-mail app, rather than choosing which account you want to collect e-mails from once the app is open (only way round this is to completely switch off individual accounts).
But even worse, I find that once I'm in the app and e-mails are downloaded, switching between accounts downloads AGAIN. In other words you cannot just "view" the e-mails on one account then switch to another to "view". Each switch to the other account invokes another download even if you just did so ten seconds ago.
If there is a way around this I would be grateful to know.
If there isn't, then this is a major flaw. Sometimes the user simply wants to view headers in a particular e-mail account, not perpetually download everytime a n account is accessed.

I assure you I haven't misunderstood in the way you imply. In (nearly) all other respects the iphone is fine. It is now widely accepted that iphone's e-mail client is inflexible and not very good.
If you run multiple e-mail accounts you do not always want every account to download every e-mail. When away from my office for example, I don't want all my personal e-mails downloaded every time I press the e-mail icon, especially if there are lots of them (including the usual liberal dose of spam). I just want to download urgent business e-mails which require an urgent answer. But this is not possible unless I laboriously go into settings and manually switch the whole account on or off. But if it is off I cannot get into them just to view the current e-mails there.....I am forced to download a new lot.
Let's look at an average PC or Mac e-mail client: You can choose to immediately download e-mails on opening it, or for it to be permanently accepting e-mails as in the background, or you can choose to start the app and THEN choose which accounts you want to upload and download.
You cannot get anywhere near this on the iphone. Sure, there is "push" and "fetch" and "manual", but it isn't really "manual" at all. The problem is that unless you completely switch off each account, you'll get every e-mail currently on your ISP server. You also cannot simply view the current e-mails without downloading fresh ones. The whole point of a half decent e-mail client is that it does what YOU want it to do, not what it dictates.
The solution is simple: To have the OPTION of opening the e-mail client and THEN deciding which account you want active, or to download to. If it wasn't for the fact that Apple clearly doesn't want any rivals to its own core apps, this would have been implemented by a third party years ago.

  • How do I stop mail from downloading ALL my messages?

How do I tell mail not to download ALL my messages but rather only the recent ones that are relevant?   I have 4 gmails and a regular imap account.  If mail downloads all my messages it's going to waste 30 GB at least.
    Thanks.

    System Preferences -> iCloud
    uncheck Mail
The OP is using Gmail, not iCloud.
How do I prevent my laptop from downloading thousands of old messages i had stored on my gmail account?
Unchecking Mail will do nothing at all.
And as Gmail is an Imap account it will download all mail in the account to the client.
If this is unwanted behaviour use a different email system (a POP system) or remove the mail from the Gmail server.
Gmail  can be configured as POP or IMAP

  • Mail Downloads Folder

    Hiya
I was wondering what the mail downloads folder actually does. I know there is a clue in the title but what I mean to say is this.
1 - Does the mail downloads folder contain all attachments to emails OR
2 - Does the mail downloads folder contain files opened directly from Mail?
I want to know if I delete all the 112mb of files in this folder will I delete the attachments in the emails themselves? Will the attachments still be there for saving elsewhere?
If someone can enlighten me it would be great. Thanks
    Mike

You are very right, the help file contained the advice below. I think I will make the suggested changes and get the program to delete the items in the folder on exit. Thanks for the tip it was very useful.
Setting the location for attachments that you open in Mail
Files attached to (or enclosed in) an email message are stored as part of the message. Since attachments are part of the message itself, they are usually deleted when you delete the message. You can save separate copies of attachments by clicking the Save button in the message window.
Mail also temporarily saves an attachment as a separate file on your computer when you open the attachment by clicking it in the message. The file is saved in the Mail downloads folder, located by default in the Library folder of your home folder.

  • How can I STOP mail from syncing with .mac????

I don't have a .mac account, I will never have a .mac account, I have in mail prefs BOTH boxes under "synchronize with other computers using .mac" unchecked, and yet Mac Mail tries to tie up my entire system "synchronizing with .mac" all the time, especially when traffic is heavy (downloading or uploading). I've got activity viewer on and the stop sign is ghosted, there appears to be no way to stop Mail from doing this useless tie up time wasting process that manages to completely freeze up mail until it's completed and sometimes slow up other programs as well. I only have POP accounts, no IMAP accounts that have to be synced.
This didn't start happening until I upgraded to 10.4.11. Prior to that Mail blazed through everything, and it NEVER tried to sync with .mac.
Is there any way to turn this useless "feature" (for me) OFF?
    Thanks!

I was on Tiger earlier, but just got home to a Leopard machine... and a power outage during the day seems to have blown my Tiger's Monitor, but look for...
    /Users/bd/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata/com.apple.DotMacSync
I'd try dragging the whole folder, if it exists...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
to the Desktop & reboot, we can always move it back if need be.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.DotMacSync.<ethernet MAC address>.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DotMacSync.plist
are both other good choices to drag to the desktop.
We might even have to go in and Copy this to the Desktop then Trash the originl...

  • How do I stop mail compressing my photos?

How do I stop mail compressing my photos? I have set 'Actual Size' in Mail and still the photos are compressed to thumbnail size.
    I'm using Mavericks 10.9.2 on a 2011 iMac.

The best way is to use the Contextual menu application PhotoTool CM to losslessly rotate the photos before importing into iPhoto. Or use Xee, a free image editor with lossless rotation capability.
If your camera has the auto rotate feature turn it off and then follow the suggestion above before importing. That will rid iPhoto of the modified version rotated to the correct orientation.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Mail downloading query

I don't own an iphone (yet!) but am wondering if anyone can explain how mail downloads on the phone. From what I read, i gather it downloads part of a message and then only downloads the rest if you open the message. The reason I ask is that i want to know what data plan to go for. If, for example, I have a mobileme account and receive 1GB of email per month including attachments, etc. do i need to allow for 1GB of data coming down in mail alone, or can i somehow stop large files downloading in their entirety to limit the amount of data i need to allow for. Thanks!

so if it's the same, does that mean it partially or entirely downloads every message?

  • Mail downloading 1 of 842 but nothing happens and there are no emails to dl

I have an IMAP server and randomly the Mail Activity bar says it is downloading 1 of (insert random number between 1 and 1000) and will do that for a few minutes, show it's "completed," and stop. There is no indication from my inbox that emails are actually coming in.
Otherwise Mail downloads like normal, as in I do receive emails when they are actually there to download, but what is the deal with the magnitude of these ghost emails?
I tried to look through the forum after trying my hand at a google search but to no avail. I wouldn't be surprised if this has something to do with the account being set up as an IMAP, but the number always changes and this thing happens at least a few times whenever Mail is open.
Also, this was an issue with 10.5.8 (and previous) as well, so SL didn't fix it as I hoped.
    Thoughts?

You should review your settings in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced regarding keeping copies of messages and their attachment for Offline Viewing. With an IMAP account only the list of messages needs to be downloaded until you click on a particular message to view and read. But with the setting to keep messages, all the messages will be downloaded and kept as a temporary copy. If you read and delete a message while Offline, for example, when you next go Online Mail will sync the copies you have on your computer with those on the server and update.
It sounds like your copies, if set to be kept, are for some reason not being retained between sessions and are reloading the cache -- but just a guess?

  • Stopping Mail Check when Opening Mail ?

    Hi all,
Is there any way to stop the mail ap checking for mail everytime you open it ? As I have push already turned on this is just wasting battery life.
    Thanks in advance.

This would be a good suggestion to Apple, I think.
I agree, it would be nice to be able to stop from downloading new mail even if you are opening the app, with a button to click if you want to download/check manually.
Sometimes I just want to reference an old email already downloaded only and not necessarily check for new mail.

  • Are messages on mail downloaded on my hard disc?

    Hello,
I have a work account with my company. The company is using Lotus Notes.
Before upgrading to Mavericks, I had Lotus Notes on my mac, I was replicating the new messages but most of all I liked the fact that a copy of all mails and contacts saved in 15 of work with this company was saved on my HD, there to be accessed in remote mode (island) even in case one day I stopped having this email account.
I am now forced to use mail also for my work emails.
Which is good because I like mail more than Lotus, but I have one doubt.
Is mail downloading and saving all the mails, or is the list on my computer there, only as long as I have an active account at work?
I like to keep the mailbox synched with my work system, but would I be able to access all the messages, the day when my work account is closed?
    Hope the question is clear.
How to add a copy of the messages and the contacts on the section "ON MY MAC".
    Thanks a lot!

Thanks again but probably I don't understand your explanation.
I can see the messages, because I now have an active work account that mail connects to.
What if one day in the future I didn't have this work account anymore, and the messages will be deleted from the work database, would I still be able to visualise them in my mail box?
    Or will they "disappear"
    Thanks

  • Mail downloading all 800000 messages from Yahoo

So I installed Mountain Lion and set up my Yahoo! Mail account so that I could receive incoming messages in notifications center and sync my notes to my iPhone. Now Mail says it is downloading all 800000 messages from my mailbox. I've had this account for like 10 years and I like to keep all of my messages. Is there really no way to limit how many messages Mail downloads? The iPhone does this fine. Since the account is IMAP too, if I delete messages in mail it deletes them from the server. I guess I'll have to make an archives folder and move stuff from my inbox there and not sync it.
Also, my notes are not syncing with my iPhone...My iPhone is set to sync to yahoo notes, but when I clicked notes for iCloud it made me set up a @me account. Do I need to update to iOS 5.1 for notes sync to work with my iPhone?

    RGH!
So, I followed the advice on the other link (deleting the downloaded messages info file), and even deleted my whole sent messages.imapmbox and rebuilt it, but my computer keeps downloading all 7500 or so sent messages over and over (more or less every time I start up Mail after the computer has been shut down). The sent messages box keeps growing and growing until I rebuild. On my MBP the folder is 5GB or so, and currently the one on my (problem) MacPro is 14gb and will surely be bigger before the weekend is out.
Another thing: If I try to stop the messages from downloading (by clicking on the little 'x' next to the progress bar in the 'Mail Activity' window, then it just ADDS the 7500 messages again onto the total to be downloaded (meaning 15,000 messages downloading and the 22,500 if I try to cancel again)
This is highly frustrating, and potentially damaging to my system drive if I fail to keep tabs on the folder.
    Please, any other ideas/suggestions?
