Stopping NetworkManager [FAIL] on shutdown.

Any idea why every time I shut down I get that error message? Everything else stops just fine, except that. I don't like the word "Fail" every time i turn of the comp. haha.
What might be the issue?

Actaully, I followed that link that bangkoks gave me and it worked. It was so simple: Add dbus in front of hal in rc.conf DAEMONS!
The wiki page on HAL and the Beginner's Guide need these details.  I those manuals, i remember it saying that you don't need dbus in your DAEMONS because HAL automatically loads it.
But adding one extra little word won't harm anything and will prevent the user from seeing "FAIL" everytime he shuts down, so they should include it, just for the best possible experience. I'm gunna go find where it says that and add it.

  • [solved] Networkmanager failed on shutdown

    Hi!
    Second post
Well, I try to install quick-init but I have a lot of problems and when I uninstalled it and restore all (I hope so) I see that when I shutdown a FAIL on networkmanager, can anybody help me, please?
And tell me how can I give you more information about it?
    Thanks a lot!

For the first question, It happens everytime I shutdown the PC but everythings seems to runs well.
In my modules I don't know what cause I'm out of my office now but I think dbus is installed cause docky ask me for it when I installed it.
    (excuse my poor english)
    Edited: I connect with ssh and see this on my rc.conf: DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hal !network networkmanager @netfs @noip @sshd @crond @alsa @samba @smartd @fam @dnsmasq @preload)
My MODULES are this: MODULES=(!rt2800usb !rt2x00usb)
It's possibly to view a log for the networkmanager?
    Thanks for the fast answers!

  • Print window reads "Stopped 'Filter' failed, 1 Page"

    Hi
When I go to print a doc my Print window shows the following message "Stopped 'Filter' failed, 1 Page"  and refuses to print. I have checked all of the necessary things regarding the printer i.e. calibrating, cleaning printheads, ink supplies & printing test pages etc. Have DL'd all of the up to date drivers and have ensured that I am printing via a solid USB connection and yet still I get nothing. The printer is an Advent AW-10 and was working absolutely fine until I updated to Yosemite however I'm not sure whether or not this has anything to do with it but in my experience of updating OS's it usually does, any help would be fantastic.
The machine I'm using is a Mac Pro v10.10 OS X Yosemite
    Look forward to any ideas/help,
    Best,
    Alex

A rule of thumb: treat any OS update as if it is untested and you are now going to give it one, hang onto your old system 'as is' so you can revert or dual boot.
Check before installing a new OS for problems, for drivers, to insure your hardware and applications and if any need updates check here:
    http://www.roaringapps.com
Backup - twice at least. And you may need to start with a new TimeMachine backup drive with new OS so you can revert back; also, even if it is just a smaller partition on your much larger TimeMachine drive, create a partition large enough to hold a system image, clone, that you can boot from if needed.
And definitely do not install new OS over the old. Yes you are suppose to be able, yes there tends to be more issues though if you do - the 'easy' way can turn into the long hard road instead.
And because it might be a good chance to reformat and initialize your drive. Or use this as an opportunity to buy and install a new better system disk drive (SSD preferable at this point - even if you have an SSD from 2-3 years back).
On another topic: those 'forced shutdowns' only make matters worse. ie, directory corruption and damage, possible corruption of files, plist (preferences) for which:
Got files that are not backed up? take care of just those.
Use Recovery Mode and repair the disk drive twice, "top" drive name and again with the system volume name.
Follow up with Safe Boot - might even do that twice.
Use Internet Recovery Mode and do a clean install - to another drive!
... but before you do so, save the installer, copy it to another disk or flash drive etc and then create your own flash installer (Lion DiskMaker is very easy to use for that).
Then you will at least have a solid system, have only Apple updates to worry about, and can begin to build back up.
Setup Assistant makes it easy to import all your old settings and such from your old system or from TimeMachine.
Any problems from there would be OS X 10.10.1 alone. If it IS working though, now is a great time to make a system backup image (clone, something you can restore from or boot from if needed).
    And testing done.
People have been doing something along those lines for years, there are dozens of "lists" of "Best practice for updating or installing a new OS"
And done right you have a good safety net so you can -
Set aside the new Yosemite OS for later /
Go back to Mavericks that was working and continue to use that all the time or when you need to do something (print) that requires 10.9.5.
Then when Apple or another vendor has updates for your system, you can install and try those out.
You could end up with backup sets for both Yosemite and Mavericks.
And before you do install say 10.10.xyz some day, make sure you have the last version - would not want a power outage, disk failure, or the update process to go kaput and leave you with no good working system.
See if you can repair and uninstall and reinstall - or delete - the preferences and files and printer cache etc so your system does
    Print as it should
    Shutdowns properly and no freezing
    No directory or disk issues
SMC and NVRAM have been cleared and reset and Startup Disk is reset to the proper default volume
Sorry for length, just meant to say "do some basic system maintenance" is all. :-)

  • Iplanet 4.1 server failed to shutdown

OK I have IPlanet web server 4.2 with SP7 and in the admin screens I want to turn the server off and back on. When I click "off" I get...
server failed to shutdown (0: unknown early startup error)
What in the world is going on? I deleted the wdnotify file and this didn't solve the problem. I could probably do a kill -9 and try to restart it, but what if I get a "could not start" error. Anyone dealt with this before?

ok, I grew some balls and reboot the entire UNIX box. Took down all 5 websites! It restarted without a hitch. After the reboot I WAS able to stop and restart the server as many times as needed. No problems.
Here's the thing. I am trying to install the MS SQL Server JDBC driver so my jsp's can connect to a database. From what I read you can just add the path to the jar's in the JVM12.conf file. Well I go to the 'Servlets' tab and hit the 'Configure JVM Attributes' button and scroll over to the JVM Classpath to put the path to my jdbc jars. I did that and tried to stop and restart the server and I am back in the same boat. I tried to shutdown the server and I get a shutdown error. Everything worked until I tried to edit the JVM12.conf file. Now I probably have to reboot to get this thing to work again. My question is....
Why would editing the jvm12.conf file make me have a shutdown failure? Nothing about this failure is entered into the error log or I would post the contents.

  • XAResource.stop not called on shutdown

It seems that the stop method isn't called during an orderly shutdown of the J2EE 1.4 app server. I execute "Stop Default Domain". However, it is called when I stop it via Deploy Tool and als during redeploy.
    Is there something to configure?
Problem is that SwiftMQ is started intraVM within the app server. It is started via XAResource.start and stopped in the stop method. If the latter isn't called, SwiftMQ is hard stopped and runs through the recovery procedure each time it starts up.
    -- Andreas

I think, you mean resourceadapter.stop() and not
    XAResource.stop.Ooops. ;-) Of course, I meant ResourceAdapter...
It is a bit tricky to do RA.stop when appserver gets
shutdown. Typically RA.stop will be called only when
    the resource adapter is undeployed.
It is tricky to call RA.stop while shutting down,
since a RA might potentially hang at RA.stop and thus
    can fail the appserver shutdown.
So, it is intentionally not called while appserver
    shuts down.
What is your view?I would prefer to have an option to configure it. The default should be that stop is called. I guess the spec requires that or not?
With SwiftMQ we have 2 different deployment options of our RA (and 2 different rar files with predefined properties). One option is to use an external SwiftMQ router. Here it is fine if you don't call the stop method because the RA is stateless and the SwiftMQ router is external. However, the other option is to run a SwiftMQ router intraVM, it is started during the RA.start method and is shut down during the RA.stop method. Since a SwiftMQ router writes a last check point on its tx log during an orderly shutdown, it is important that RA.stop is called otherwise this would be a hard crash for SwiftMQ and requires to run through the recovery procedure during startup.

  • HP Laserjet P4014 Stopped – 'Filter' failed

I’ve seen discussion of this for other printers and versions of OS X. Has anyone seen this on 10.9.5 and, better still, solved it?
If I try to print to a networked HP Laserjet P4014, the print queue gives up with the message
    Stopped – ‘Filter’ failed
Things I have tried so far:
    downloading new HP driver software
    resetting the printing system
    changing the computer network name
    rebooting
The only effect of all this so far is having to put back the printer’s network name and password.
At best, I get 1 page printed, followed by a Postscript error.
The only workaround so far: print to PDF and print the PDF from a Linux machine.

As far as I can tell the critical thing is an RPC error. I trimmed quite a lot – I am not sure how informative this all is. I meantime also sent a tcpdump and sysdiagnose output to Apple via bug reporter so let’s see if they come up with something.

  • Canon MF5950dw throwing Stopped - 'filter' failed printer error

We just bought a Canon MF5950dw printer, and on a MBA running 10.8.2 when we try to print anything over the network, it'll stop with the error: Stopped - 'filter' failed.
    I've:
repairing permissions from the rescue disk
tried deleting and re-adding the printer
    uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers
    reset the CUPS printing system
and nothing has helped. The MBA has no problem printing to our old printers. It works fine on the my MBP running 10.8.2 and our Windows 7 machines. It persists whether I set it up as a Bonjour printer or an IP printer.
Anyone know how to fix this? thanks!

Having the same problem on my Epson Stylus Pro 7900. I printed over 30 prints in the last two days. Suddenly I began receiving the "Stopped - 'Filer' fails, 1 page" error. Was on the phone with Epson for an hour today. Deleted and reinstalled the printer and tried several other workarounds. Ultimately I was told it was a problem with Apple. On the phone with Apple for an hour today. They're saying it's an issue with Photoshop. Logged in here and it seems Apple is pointing a finger at Epson and Photoshop.
Does ANYBODY have ANY clue why I was able to print dozens of photos over the last two weeks and SUDDENLY I can't????

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue with the printer. When do you receive this error message?
Also, try a hard reset with the printer.
    Hard Reset:
Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall
    Take out the toner/cartridges
    Wait 30 sec
Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall (Make sure the printer is plugged into the wall and not a surge protector)
Insert the toner/cartridges back into the printer
    Let me know the outcome

  • Has anyone else seen this error when printing "Stopped - filter - failed"?

Currently I am trying to print to a new Dell C1765NFW Color MFP with Mac 10.8.2. I can print from a Word document but not from an Adobe PDF file. I have cleared the CUPS folder and rebooted however it is still not working with PDF files. It attempts to print but then comes back with "Stopped - filter - failed". Any ideas? The printer is also connected through USB and the newest driver for the printer has been installed.
    Thanks!

  • Canon Pixma MP610 fails to print and returns a " Stopped - 'Filter' failed" error message.

Hi, I have updated to latest OS and now my Canon Pixma MP610 fails to print and returns a " Stopped - 'Filter' failed" error message.
    I am running OS X 10.9.3 (13D65) on a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac with  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I've done a complete system re-install and also performed a targetted install of just the Canon Drivers - but all to no avail.
The printer is OK with regard ink-levels and is/was working fine. It will print out 'photocopies' independantly of the iMac. Additionally, from within the Print Queue I can view the ink-levels so there are comms between the iMac and the Canon - it's just that 'Print' seems to be off topic.
Can anyone help as I have to get a document out tonight
    Many thanks in advance
    S

Is that device desSystem Preferences - Print & Scan - Right click the printer and select Reset Printing System. DO NOT use any Canon software.
You did not advise how it is connected (USB- Wi-Fi- etc..) so it's a little difficult to assist with so little information.

  • Server failed to shutdown. (0: unknown early startup error

I am running iPlanet 4.1 SP8 on Solaris 8. I receive the following error message when trying to shut down the server via the Administration console:
server failed to shutdown. (0: unknown early startup error
    Any ideas?

    Hi
There is not error message in the Admin Server Logs. In fact, I only see the following:
    Status:
[https-compartido]: server failed to shutdown. (0: unknown early startup error)
    Error
    An error occurred during shutdown.
If I shutdown from the script there is no problem. Only when I try shutdown it from the Admin Server I'm using Solaris 5.8.

  • I have a new MacBook Pro, and when I try to print, the laptop says, "stopped filter failed 1 page". What can I do?

I have a new MacBook Pro, and when I try to print, the laptop says, "stopped filter failed 1 page". What can I do?

    Okay, regarding this problem:
I'm trying to print to an Advent AW10 printer from an Imac running Yosemite 10.10.1 and it's been driving me nuts for the last two months...
I got on to Advent yesterday and recieved this instruction from their support team this morning and it worked and I'm now printing away merrily:
    Please follow below steps:
In Spotlight search window type Terminal and then press Enter.
This should bring up the terminal window/program.
    In the Terminal type:
sudo sh -c 'echo "Sandboxing Relaxed" >> /etc/cups/cups-files.conf' then press Enter.
It will ask for your password. Please enter system password.(You will not see password entering)
    After that type following:
sudo launchctl stop org.cups.cupsd then press Enter.
    Try Printing.
I don't think this is specific to Advent and is rather simply an 'opening up' of something blocking the 'printer channels' (layman's terms obviously)
    Hope this helps people out!
