Stopping spam via forms

Does anyone know what the technique is to stopping spam when
producing:
1/ form to mail contact pages
2/ mailto links?
is there a technique? other than that of using image random
character way - ie : https://www.fasthosts.co.uk/login/

I take this one step further. I use TWO fields hidden by CSS:
1. one field is called 'address3' and is empty. I check to
see if it's
been filled in and if it has, the form goes into the bit
bucket.
2. another field is called 'moreinfo' and contains "More Info
Here" as a
value. If that field does NOT contain "More Info Here" on
submit, the form
goes into the bit bucket.
It hasn't failed me yet....

How can I stop spam from someone called AT&T High Speed Internet? I do not know what the email address is.

I am receiving 100's of spam emails. They are all advertising different types of products but they all say they are from AT&T High Speed Internet. I have used the junk filter on them but it does not pick them up as junk. I have to do it manually each time. I have contacted my UVerse provider and they cannot assist because it is getting through Yahoo to Thunderbird. They say that it is a problem that I will have to have assistance from Thunderbird to resolve so that I can have this listed as junk and will not have to do this manually. I am at my wit's end. Please, please help me!

Yahoo has its own junk mail filter (Spamguard), which you should confirm is enabled:

The significance of this is that marking messages as junk in Thunderbird probably isn't integrated with Yahoo's system, so Yahoo may not be getting trained to block them. You might need to go into Yahoo from time to time and mark accumulated junk as spam.
Separately, there are solutions for filtering spam on your computer as the mail is downloaded from Yahoo. Thunderbird has a built-in filter, as described here: [[Thunderbird and Junk / Spam Messages]]. However, if that isn't as effective you would like, there are third party products as well.

How can I stop Spam reaching my iPad?

Could anybody help me stop spam reaching my iPad? We can filter and "junk" mail on the mac but how can you do this on the iPad? ( and iPhone for that matter). Would be grateful for advice. I have found an app called iSpamDrain that may help but am not entirely comfortable with the fact it seems to be cloud based and you have to give them your email password.

In firefox I am unable to submit information via form buttons. The buttons are present and clickable but nothing happens once they are clicked.

I am having trouble submitting information via form buttons. I click on the button but nothing happens. It isn't site specific and is a problem that has only started to happen recently. I have uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it without any rememdy. The problem does not replicate itself in Chrome or Internet Explorer. Can anyone advise what maybe the problem? Is it s a javascript setting within firefox that I may have accidentally turned off? Please help.

I am pretty sure you had the same diagnosis and solution to start it in safe mode, and if it does work, go disabling each extension one by one until you determine which extension is the culprit.

Increase in SPAM web form submissions

Hi,
I'm noticing a trend of increased SPAM web form submissions across most of our BC sites. This has got particularly bad in the past week or so. All SPAM submissions follow a very similar theme. The text is complete 'gobbledygook' basically! The forms being used don't have any description fields where long descriptions or links can be entered so I struggle to see why this is happening.
What I want to know is:
- is this something other BC partners are noticing, particularly recently
- are your SPAM submissions similar to what I have shown below
- what can we do to reduce these other than using CAPTCHA on all forms?
- we exclusively use BC but I would be interested to know if the BC platform is particularly bad for SPAM submissions or is this something all sites are suffering from nowadays?
- any other light you could shed on this issue or advice you could impart would be much appreciated

We are experiencing a high volume of spam since changing our web forms on our newly redesigned site. The objective of the site design was to make it quick and easy for clients to get a quick quote thus asking for only a few fields to be completed. Adding a captcha form would actually detract from the purpose of the form.
We have implemented the honey pot field which seems to have made little to no difference in volume (this seems to be the case for this fix across many other users of BC). The problem is with our spam is quite unusual whereby we are not getting any specific info from them really making it hard to detect if it is spam or real. See example;

Starting/Stopping Application Server Forms and Reports

Hello,
Are there any scripts (like dbstart and dbshut for Oracle DB) for starting and stopping "Application Server Forms and Reports". If not, any special suggestions?
I must automatically start this application on Unix. I know that during starting some steps must be performedy by the root user (export DISPLAY env variable and issue the "xhost +" command) and later the oracle user must do some things( export ORACLE_HOME and DISPLAY and issue the "opmnctl startall" command). Does anybody have scripts like that?

If you're on 10.1.2, there is a script (requires an X Windows session). It's called runstartupconsole.sh, but you've got to update the install type to Portal in the ias.properties file if I remember right. It looks cool, but a shell script works better.
Here is a shell script that does some of those things. You still need to run xhost+ after running a display if you're using something that requires a DISPLAY to start. Someone may have a better one, but this one works.
We actually use one that starts all the different components individually except for Reports in rc scripts. That is the only thing we have that needs a Display set to start. So then xhost + is run & at the same time, the Unix sysadmin runs a script that start Reports from opmn.

by the way - just for info : Sound-Items in Forms 6i can't be migrated to 10g. They are now obsolet.
So, the best way is to develop in 6i a solution based on java. Then you use it and communicate with it per java bean.

I have created a form using 10g. My requirement is once I fetch some data to the form, I want to run a report which will referance certain data on a text box on the form and generate report accordingly (call a report via form passing parameters to the report)

You can use the database to send emails with UTL_SMTP see:

Does anyone know how to implement UTL_SMPT for sending emails via Forms or pl/sql ?
If not, any other suggestions for sending a newsletter-type of email to a fairly large list of people ?

If your are using microsoft windows you can achieve this by using MAPI SESSION & MAPI MESSAGE ActiveX Control.
These controls are not installed in windows by default, you have to install these from some cd like visual basic, visual studio etc.

Best way to stop spam being entered by form

Sorry this is a bit of a general question and I dare say
there is no cut and
dried answer.
I produce sites for automotive dealers using classic .asp.
Most of, not all
sites have feedback forms for which I've been using client
side validation.
But the dealers have been getting increasing amounts of spam
which looks
like someone has sat and entered via the form. IE. All the
mandatory fields
are entered and comply with the validation.
I've recently installed a html to email server component on
our server call

the upshot being I can now write some sort of server side
validation. The
problem is I can't think of a way to validate against
someone, or something,
inputting what appears to valid entries and then a load of

I suspect the people spamming my customers are actually
robots, that have
analysed how my feedback forms work and which entries must be
filled in and
with what. In which case the only way I can see of guarding
against it is to
use that "twisted numbers and letters" thing, where you get a
distorted
series of characters which must be entered correctly in order
for the forms
content to be accepted.
So, 2 questions really, is that the only way to do it?
And,
Would anybody know where I could get some info on how to do
it please?
