Storage full when it isn't

After message saying I had 200 MB available, I purchased 20 GB (ongoing monthly charge).  Now it says I still have 200 MB and have 20 GB in storage.  How do I convert the newly purchased 20 GB where it's needed?
Also unable to delete music and photos.  No trash available.
Also after downloading IOS8 - cannot connect to the internet (after sleep) unless I turn off my iPad and turn back on.
Thanks for any help.  This is no longer fun!

What is the 'storage full' message referring to, is it how much free space that you have available on your iPad (Settings > General > About > Available), or how much free space that you have available in the cloud for your backups ?
For music, what iOS version do you have on your iPad ? On iOS 7 and 8 you can delete individual tracks by swiping/dragging across them from right-to-left - on iOS 8 you can also delete albums and/or all an artists tracks in the same way (and you can do it via Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage > Music, either by swiping/dragging or via the Edit button at the top right of the screen).
For photos, how did they get on the iPad ? If they photos weren't synced to it from a computer then you should be able to delete them  - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner (bottom right in iOS 7 and 8) if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it (Edit button on iOS 6, Select button in iOS 7 and 8) in thumbnail view. Photos that were synced from your computer can't be deleted directly in the Photos app - you need to move/remove/de-select them from where they were synced from on your computer and re-sync

• Can't receive Text messages - says inbox full when it isn't.

I have a Motorola Hint.  Starting yesterday (or at least that's when I noticed it), whenever I receive a text message I get the following error:
Inbox is full. Erase older Text Messages to receive a new Text Message.
However, I have deleted more than 30 text messages (and picture messages) and when I go into my Inbox the phone correctly states "Txt msg 83% full".  Yet when I receive a text message from someone else, or even from my own phone sending it to myself, it still give the same error above and thus won't download the message.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Rich

I have been using the phone for 3 years and never had a problem like this.  Frequently my phone is filled to 90% or more, and if it gets to 100% I just delete a message and a rejected one arrives.  Now I have deleted 30+ and not received any new messages, just the notification that the inbox is full (which it isn't).  Unless something happened that would change the number of messages that can be stored on the phone, so the network says the inbox is full but the phone still thinks it isn't, it shouldn't help to delete more messages, but that's my only option so far.  Did the size of a text message change over the last few days (eg from 160 characters to 255 or something)?  That would be a logical explanation for why it could hold 347 messages before and now can't hold 290...

• IPhone 5S says storage full - but it isn't?!

I've got an iPhone 5S, approximately 8 months old. For a while, it's been coming up with a notification to say the storage is almost full. I've gone into General > Usage to see what my apps are using altogether, but as far as I can see the apps I've got do not add up to the 12GB memory which my phone should have?!
Has anybody else been experiencing this problem? Alongside the storage issue, when I try to open an app (for example, Whatsapp) it opens yet immediately closes. Something's not right - can anybody help?!

far as I can see the apps I've got do not add up to the 12GB memory which my phone should have?!
Exactly, how much do they add up to?

• Mac says usb stick is full when it isn't

I'm trying to copy files to a usb stick but my mac keeps telling me the stick is full, even when I know it isn't. Deleting other files on the usb stick doesn't help at all. I've tried a few different sticks - sometimes I can get it to work but eventually it decides the usb stick is full even when it isn't and even if I delete all the other data off it, and then it won't copy.

Hi and welcome to  Discussions.
Just remember, after you delete something you'll need to empty the trash to recover the space, and for the USB stick it will need to be attached whilst that recovery takes place.

• Why does TimeMachine say the disk is full when it isn't?

Hello!
A lot of my backups recently have been failing because TimeMachine says the disk is full, when that simply isn't true. As of right now, I have 1.18 TB available of
2 TB. Why do my backups fail even when sufficient space is there?
Thank you so much in advance!!!

This main explanation is here.
OS X Yosemite (10.10)
This is pretty much equivalent to kids talking to each other on tin cans over a wet string.
The TM in Yosemite is also exceedingly bug infested.
The best solution for now..
1. Use ethernet instead of wireless to do backups.
2. If you upgrade installed Yosemite a clean install might improve it.
3. Using local disk (USB drive plugged in for example) can be a huge improvement over networks and wireless.
4. If you continued the backup from the old OS, wipe the TC disk and start over a new TM backup. (you can archive the old one if you want to maintain the history).
5. Use an alternative to TM until apple get their act together.. eg Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper etc.

• Why 5s keeps saying storage full when i have nothing on my phone

my phone keeps saying storage full with only MB left when i should have at least 6 GB free.  I have no music and 1 GB of pictures.  This problem happened before and the next day it was back to saying 6.something GB free. And nothing has changed since then.  Why is apple software getting worse?

hey guys,
i appreciate the responses.
i did all that.  nothing is taking up my capacity.  I have already deleted all my music, i have 1 gb of photos, and only a few random apps, nothing totaling close to my phones capacity.  this has happened twice before where the memory slowly decreases and i get the message of full storage. Then 2 days later its back up to 7 or 8 gb.  Yesterday it was at 535 mb, and then last night it went back up to 6 gb. and as i type this its at 4.5 gb with no change in apps or photos or music.  I have the latest update and other than that my phone is working properly. im assuming its just another software bug, but if anyone has a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again

• Media Player says zen micro is full when it isn

HiI have a creative zen micro and am running media player ... everything works fine with one exception. Media Player says that?then zen has?5.7 gb which is fine but it shows that it is full which it isn't. This can be confirmed by unplugging it from the usb port and checking the memory under system info which confirms there is 5.8 gb with .6 gb free. The removable disk function is not turned on. What can I do to remedy this? Thanks Carl">[email protected] m

if it truly isn't charging thats something that would be covered under warranty simply go to a apple store and get a replacement

• Why is my icloud storage full, when I've disabled all apps from being backed up?

I saw my icloud storage was full, so i went into "manage storage" and turned off almost every app so it wouldn't back up to icloud.
it still shows that it's full.  how/why?!

i just tried but it says it cannot backup bc there isn't enough space.
you can see in the screenshot that the next backup is 5.8 gbs.  my camera roll is turned off and the apps that are checked off are very small so i really have no idea what's taking up so much space.

• Why is my iCloud storage full when I bought a 32GB iPad mini?

When my mum bought me my iPad mini at Christmas (7 months ago), she bought me a 32GB and recently I have had notifications saying that my iCloud storage is full. I have deleted many apps and many photos, also when I try to delete the data of certain apps I don't want, the switch will turn to white (meaning it has been deleted) and when I go back onto Manage Backup the switch will be green ( meaning that it has obviously not been deleted). Why does this happen? Is it a problem with the iPad itself? My mum bought me the 32GB so problems like this wouldn't happen. Also writing this question my iPad has been running slow, is this because of my iCloud storage being full?
I just put this down to be that when you buy the iPad mini you get 5GB free for your backup and the other 32GB is for photos, apps etc. Is this what has happened I have used up the 5GB of iCloud backup? Or have I used up the full 32GB?
Thank you for taking the time to read and (hopefully) answer my question.

Apps, music, movies, sync'd photos from iTunes are part of iCloud backup.
You should turn off photo backup to iCloud and regularly sync your photos to your computer and delete them from the Camera Roll.

Also writing this question my iPad has been running slow, is this because of my iCloud storage being full?
No.
Close all apps (double click Home then swipe up on all apps) then press & hold both Home & Power until you see the Apple logo.

• 6230i 'record store full' when it isn't

When I download emails I get 'record store full' message. I have deleted all messages and all pitures. When I go to 'e-mail storage' it shows me that my inbox has zero messages, but it says that my inbox is 73% full! All other folders are empty. I have removed the card, sim, battery etc and restarted - no difference. Is this a hardware problem?
PS This used to work fine till yesterday - I always use my phone to download emails.

I have now solved the problem which suddenly apeared a few weeks ago. I backed up the entire phone using PC-suite having first saved all my contacts on the SIM card. (I don't trust the contacts management in PC-suite.)
I then had the phone software upgraded by my local dealer. I now have: nokia 6230i V 03.88 vs before V 03.70, 28 jul 06 RM-72, GSM P1.1
I then restored from the backup and got most of it back. Some minor problem with display etc settings. I also lost the email settings but I could download from my mail provider and it now works. The key seems to be that my inbox setting which before shoved 0 messages but 31% utilisation now is back to 0%.

• Installing Adobe Photoshop - disk full when it isn't?

Here it is, I am running windows 7 ultimate from a 40gb ssd card (which is almost full) however I save all of my programs, files, pictures etc. onto my secondary 3TB drive which is almost empty.
Trying to install adobe photoshop elements 12 - says that the C: drive is full (which is true) but I'm telling it to load onto the D: (which is almost empty).
When I click OK - to install - it highlights the C: drive and won't allow me to click on the D: drive again.
Does photoshop have to run from the C: drive where all of the windows components are or something? I am waiting on a larger ssd which I ordered, but I would still prefer it to go onto the D:
Thanks for anything that would help.

yes - you could have plenty of space free but have it fragmented.
If this is the case and a file cannot be written contiguously then it gets fragmented into the spaces.
With an SSD - although there is no actual physical fragmentation, the file-system still believes there is, and still has to walk through extents to find all of the pieces of a file - i'm not sure how much of an impact that would make on an SSD but the write amplification of splitting up a file is probably more significant (i.e. if it has to mixed with half empty MLC write pages).
it's a difficult situation because TRIM wont help with this... the file-system may actually need to be defragmented - and you don't want to do that on the SSD because it causes alot of writes that will reduce it's life...
I think the best thing to do would be to find out just how fragmented the file-system space is, if it is significant then clone the drive to a HDD and defragment it on that... then restore it back to the SSD afterwards.
The only defragmenter/optimiser that should be used on OS X system volumes is iDefrag. (other defragmenters do not carry OS X specific file definitions... that said, it probably doesn't matter that much when the target is an SSD, the main thing of importance is the space and file fragmentation.

• OS X says boot disc full when it isn't - by a long way

I ran SuperDuper last night and the backup failed with an unknown error. After, Spotlight didn't find files. I rebooted and at the login screen was given the error message 'backup disc full, delete some files' - problem is, OS X won't boot beyond the starfield screen, so there's no way of deleting files or running the system. I took the drive out and put it in a USB caddy on another machine and ran Disk Utility - it said repairs were needed, so I did this. However, putting it back into the MBP nothing has changed, it still won't boot and insists the disc is full - there is over 180GB free! (I can see this when I mount it on another machine.) Ideas?!

Thanks guys.. This is sorted.. I guess i missed a right parenthesis in FROM

• Capacity Reading Full When It Isn't

Well, I recently backed up all my files using my iPod as a flash drive, just in case my computer was reformatted when I updated to Leopard.
However, after I deleted everything from my iPod, it's still reading as nearly full. (10 GB Muisc, 1 GB Video, 15.76 Other). But when I click on my iPod to view the folders, there's absolutely nothing there.
I haven't reformatted it yet, because I do not wish to lose the songs I have on it, but I'm hoping there is some other way to update the capacity (or find out what I did wrong when deleting the files).
Help!

the flash drive function is totally weird.....you would have to use a long transfer cord to plug into a computer... Why dont you people just get a Flash Drive? You can get a 512 MB at office depot for 5 bucks and a 2GB for 20 bucks and and 8 GB for a measly 35 bucks!!!
No disrespect meant...just pointing it out. Of course I am not protesting you using it as a flash drive if you want to back up YOUR computer. I kind of overlooked that......I only use flash drive for small things like (ahem) "liberating" music from my younger bro's iTunes.

• Raid appears full when it isn't?

Hello,
New to a Middle School site, not experienced with our server setup. We have an xserve running 10.7.5 with two RAIDS. RAID1 holds the home folders for our students. RAID 2 is not being used for anything as far as I can tell.
Finder and the Server App show the RAID1 hard disk as full to capacity (350g). When I explore the drive, though, only 850mb of files show. I see all home folders, but none have files larger than 90mb.
Ran "Disk Inventory X" freeware as suggested from IT department, showing a graphical display of hard disk usage. This displayed the same results. The drive appears full to capacity, but when explored only displays 850mb of data total.
Anyone have similar issues or suggestions? I understand RAID basics, but didn't set this up and I'm not too comfortable diving in without guidance. Thank you.
