Store models - low resolution displays

Has anybody else noticed how at certain retailers (I was at CompUSA) the 14" iBooks seem to be set to a lower resolution than normal. I thought I was seeing things, but I took my own iBook out of my backpack, and the text overall was smaller and sharper. Makes you wonder if they are trying to push people to the PowerBook by making the iBook look as crummy as possible? (Not too hard since they're almost always dirty and smudgy.)

I believe you can change that in System Preferences by changing the resolution. The Powerbook has better resolution then the iBook I would guess because a lot of professionals use it. Many professionals use it for complex editing of photos and videos, as well as other things. Another thing is, if you can't see the font real well (I can't), go to Universal Access. From there you can turn on magnification or zoom (can't remember the specific name) which will zoom in on the text making it bigger.
I hope that helps,
Jon

  • Lightroom on low resolution displays?

I probably didn't find the right text to search by, but I figure this has to be an ongoing issue...
I periodically need to show people how to do things in Lightroom.  When it's a group we project the display using an ordinary projector at 1024x768.  When I do this, the side columns are huge (sorry, I've forgotten the right term for the columns that show keywords, collections, and so on)...  I've gone to the small font, which is NOT small, but how do I change fonts or whatever so these columns are visible but a WHOLE lot smaller so there's room for the thumbnails in the middle?  And yes, I know I can close them, but that pretty much defeats the purpose of showing people how to use LR if you have to keep closing all the displays to show thumbnails.....
I figure there's GOT to be a way to make the fonts or whatever a LOT smaller, but I haven't found it yet...

Projectors should scale to the screen resolution up to the maximum resolution the projector is capable of. I pointed out earlier that with most projectors made in the last few years this is 1280 x 800. If you are using an older projector then it may be limited to the resolution you give and changing the screen will not produce a higher resolution, but you should always be running a monitor at its maximum resolution to get the best from LR. If I was using a 1024 x 768 monitor or projector to teach I would use it as an opportunity to explain how Adobes minimum standards are in reality not practical and that using LR (or indeed any other serious editing application) requires a higher resolution screen.
Increasingly of course home cinima projectors are capable of 1080 (1960 x 1080) for FHD movies and these may be the very expensive ones you were thinking about when you rather over priced projectors! Although here in the UK 1080 projectors are around £2,000.
If you are using the projector for photographic purposes, rather than home cinema, you want a 4:3 projector (unless you specialise in panoramas!). Wide-screen is just wasting pixels - what we really want are square lcds in our photographic projectors so that portrait and landscape images are the same size when projected to fill the screen.
Although projectors will scale up and down, you positively do NOT want to use that facility. For best results, you MUST export your images from LR at the correct size for the projector. I have two projectors, an Epson 1024x768 (which is still the commonest size around for photographic use in camera clubs), and a new Canon 1400x1050. I size the images for the projector I am using. Also, make sure that when exporting the images at the correct size, you also sharpen the images for the screen in the export dialog. It makes an enormous difference, because scaling down softens the images just as scaling up does.
You should also try not to use keystoning; that ruins the image detail, just as scaling does. Raise the projector to midscreen level, if possible. Any scaling up or down should be done in LR or PS, where you are using decent scaling algorithms, not the simple ones in projectors.
I should perhaps add that most people projecting images at camera clubs do NOT use LR - its slideshow facilities are fairly minimal. But I do use LR for preparing the images for projection, irrespective of the slideshow program used to project them.

  • ?: Will a high resolution display work in PSCC (Windows)

    Hello everyone,
I am going to be purchasing a windows laptop 15" that has 2 screen resolution choices. I can choose a 1920x1080 or a 2880x1080. I would rather purchase the 2880x1620 display but i am confused as to whether or not it will work properly with Photoshop CC in a Windows environment.
Here are my 3 questions for you:
    1. Will a 2880x1620 display be workable with PSCC or should i opt for the 1920x1080 option?
    2. If there is no solution currently for the higher resolution option do you think there may be one soon?
    3. If i purchase the 2880x1620 display can i run it at a lower resolution until the problem is fixed or will not running it at the native resolution create other problems?
Thank you so much for helping me with this. I need to order the laptop soon and im at a loss as to which display to select.
Best to you and thanks again,
    rick

Yes Trevor thats me! I thought that was you! How are you doing?? Great to hear from you :-)
A couple of things as i stayed up late last night looking around.....
I have looked at the Dell Precision M4700 and because its got the older processors & its not as expensive as the M4800 but would seem to work well for me. Im looking for something that is not too high a resolution like 1920x1080 (and even that is pushing it on a 15.6" screen im sure), good viewing angles, lots of RAM, decent NITS, decent sRGB coverage and that wont break the bank. Easy chore huh?
I think with this purchase im going to have to make some compromises and by getting this machine i think i will be ok. Im sure they will probably come out with a high resolution fix the day i get my lower resolution display but hey, thats the way it goes huh?
Im using a very old MacBook Pro right now that is 1200x800 and it is excellent so im sure i'll be fine with a 1920x1080 display.
One thing that has me confused is when i look at Dell's website it states that all of their machines are approved for Photoshop CS6. Kind of funny they would say that if that includes the high rez version no?
Also, they have something called an "optimizer" which i beleive is software that works with your computer to optimize it for certain applications on the fly. It lists it as working well with Photoshop. That would in no way be a solution to the high rez display issues would it?
I even saw a video that had the highest resolution display with Photoshop on it and it looked fine! Did they Photoshop that??
Any insight you can give me before i pull the trigger would be most appreciated. I am getting a Windows machine because i have to run QuickBooks for Windows on it and i dont want to use Parallels or Boot Camp. Just me but i dont like the idea of doing that (i know im wierd!)
Hope to hear from you all soon!
Thank you so much for the great help!
    best to you,
    rick

  • Display issue: green, flashing pixels, low resolution on my new MBP 17"

I just bought my MacBook Pro 17" on December 2010 from Authorized Reseller in Dublin.
After couple of days for the first time and now every 2-3 days my MBP's display goes suddenly pixleated with green, shiny pixels and all display appears like low resolution. After closing the lid and opening it again the problem disappears. During that display problem my computer has no issue with performance like: video playing, opening and closing applications, rebooting, etc. Here are some screen shots made by my photo camera during this display issue: http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/809/dsc03872j.jpg http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/6670/dsc03879x.jpg http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/7914/dsc03885z.jpg http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3830/dsc03881g.jpg
I should mention that I also made a screen shot with Shiftcmd3 combination of keys during this display issue and it appears, as you can see http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/8618/screenshot20110123at204.png as it should be - sharp and clear. One of my friend said that maybe I should reinstall operating system, but my guess is that it isn't software (Snow Leopard) issue. By the way, I have all the latest updates.
Please, can you tell me what is the problem, what is causing it and what should I do?
    Thank you.

Ok, guys, I should update my main post about screen issues on my MacBook Pro 17" 2010 model, because it was quiet a big issue. It was actually problem not with display panel (which was completely replaced and which didn't resolved that screen issue at all) but with motherboard which has been replaced (by Mactivate).
After almost 3 months I can say that the computer had no issues since the repair: no screen issues, no noisy running vents.
I must say I am happy with repair made by Mactivate (actually one of few repair services authorized and recommended by Apple). They arranged the pick up with their own currier with no charge, great communication and most of all - they did everything to resolve this quiet unusual issue with my display.
I really and honestly can recommend Mactivate to anyone in Ireland.

  • How do I uncheck the "open in low resolution" box for Acrobat Pro 10.1.10 in a MBP with retina display?

I have the "open in low resolution" box checked by default and I can not uncheck it because it is shaded out. I already tried the "uninstall Acrobat, delete the 'com.adobe.PDFAdminSettings.plist' file, and reinstall"  solution, but it did not work. I am using Adobe CS6, acrobat pro 10.1.10, macbook pro w/ retina display, and OS X 10.9.4.

I don't think Acrobat 10 is capable of that. Only the very latest Acrobat 11 update has some concessions for Retina displays.

  • Low resolution on retina display

It seems that adobe muse opens in low resolution on retina display. I used to have the same problem with adobe acrobat, but in that case i solved the problem by following the procedure in: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1298242. That procedure, however, doesn't work with muse. Can somebody help me?

    Hi,
Is there a fix for this?
The UI is tiny on my Dell XPS 15 (retina display).
Is there no option such as in photoshop for 'experimental features' to enlarge the UI by 200%?
Currently it's unusable on a retina display.
    Thanks.

  • My iphone 4s suddenly displays images from Yahoo, Google, and Flickr at low resolution. The camera on my phone works fine, but any web related photo content is now pixelated and low res, what's the deal?

My iphone 4s suddenly displays images from Yahoo, Google, and Flickr at a low resolution. I have IOS 7.0.4. My phone camera works fine, but any web based photo content from Safari, Yahoo images, Google images, and Flickr all come in pixelated and low res. What's the deal?

It happened to me but later I figured out that cellular signal was not that great and so the Internet was very slow. It took me about 2 minutes to get the full resolution picuture on either of the app you've described. Try to get faster internet either by wifi or good signal and then check.

  • 23" Display turned to low resolution monochrome

I have dual monitors running off an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card. One day I rebooted after a crash and one of the monitors went monochrome and is low resolution. I switched the cables and it moved to the other monitor. So, I assumed it was the video card- so I got a new one and it is still doing the same thing. When I look at Displays in the System preferences it says 256 colors while the other says millions.
    Any ideas?

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
Not sure, but check your System Preferences/Universal Access/Display. See if the "Use grayscale" radio button is checked.
? Is the "millions of colors" listed as an option for the ailing display?

  • Web graphics / images display in low resolution on any web browser

    Hi everyone.
This issue has had me stumped for a few months now. I never noticed this issue with Snow Leopard but now with Lion I have noticed that web graphics display at a significantly lower resolution. I switch between Google Chrome and Safari and the issue is present on both browsers.
Basically any website with graphics, or images will be pixelated and lacking in fine detail. It is painfully obvious when browsing sites like Flickr and 500px. In these cases, my own personal images look terrible online, but look absolutely normal in my Lightroom library, so I know it's not a strange display issue on my Mac.
I'm just curious if anyone has had a similar issue, and if you have figured out how to resolve it.
    Thank you very much!
    - Abram

i have the same issue with safari on my mac. i'm not sure if i have snow leopard or not. all i know is i am on a G4 with mac os 10.5.8 and have safari 5.0.1. last week, i could not watch certain video clips online, because {as it stated in my browser where the video should be} i did not have the most recent flash player. but when i went to download the most recent version, it told me it would not work on a power pc mac. so i researched and found out i had to use the flash 10.1.102.64 player... it's the most recent version that will work on a power pc mac. so i uninstalled the flash player i had on my mac and installed this player. all well and good... now i can see the videos.
but what's not well and good is that i no longer have hi-res images in my browser. all images are pixelated and unclear. i posted on the adobe forum to see if i could get an answer as to why.
    here was my post/inquiry...
"I recently upgraded my Flash Player so that I could view internet content (such as videos) that were not available to me before I upgraded. Ever since, the images on most web sites that I visit are now pixelated (look very low-resolution). I had not made any other changes to any settings on my computer or software. The browser I use is Safari 5.0.1. I had to upgrade to the Flash Player 10.1.102.64 because I am on a PowerPC Mac G4, and that is the most recent version of Flash Player that will work with Power PCs.
Anyway, now that I have upgraded (which included first uninstalling the old Flash Player), my images look pixelated... most do, anyway. For some reason images I post to flickr appear okay on screen. But normal 72dpi images on standard web sites (like Yahoo) appear very lo-res.
Does this have to do with whether or not my Mac's operating system is 64-bit or 32-bit... or the Safari software... in relation to the Flash Player's... whether or not they are compatible? If not, I have no idea why this would have changed since upgrading my Flash Player. And if so, what can I do to get around it? I'm somewhat computer savvy... but not this much. Can someone please help me so that I don't have to pay $39 to call Support and ask them?"
    here was their reply...
"Sounds like the installation went pear-shaped somewhere. Try it again using the method described here:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2805854?start=0&tstart=0
Or maybe they'll know what the cause of your pixelated images is."
but the discussion link they gave me did not help. i had already done what it suggested. and i tried it again... still no luck.
    help.... anyone!!!! please?

  • Resolution issues in mirror mode with last model of Cinema display and MBP

I have been using my MBP with a 27 inch Cinema display for the last year in mirror mode. (Both prior to Thunderbolt). Today, the cinema display is only coming up in low resolution while mirrored, but if I exit mirro mode, the reolution on the Cinema display is correct. Any suggestions on how to get back to prior state?
    Thanks to anyone who responds!

Same issue here. Since upgrade to Snow Leopard, my 24 Cinema LED Display acts weird with closed lid on my Macbook. It doesn't switch on video at all, only audio seems to work. It is correctly plugged with the special power/USB cable that comes/is attached to the 24 Cinema LED. Also booting the Macbook and immediately closing the lid doesn't
    No video at all!
Please help, it seems my external display has become useless...

  • IPhoto dock icon displays in low resolution

I update iPhoto the other day, prompted by software update, and since then the iphoto dock icon is very noticeably low resolution.  I deleted iPhoto and reinstalled it to no effect.  Any ideas what is going on?

Sorry but the Dock icon is a system issue - it has nothing to do with iPhoto
Typically it is just an alaisis and you can drag it to the trash then launch iPhoto and while it is running right click on the icon in the Dock and select keep in dock
As always be sure you have a good up to date backup prior to messing with your system

  • T60 display problem - boot in low resolution pink/blue shade

I have a T60 2623D7U that has a screen resolution of 1400x1050. The problem I am having is that when I start the laptop it starts up with a really low resolution, probably 640x480, and the colour of the screen sometimes has a pink or blue shade. Sometimes it flickers with white horizontal lines. When Windows XP is loaded, I cannot change the screen resolution and even though it shows that it is 1024x768, it is probably still showing at 640x480.  Every once in a while it will actually start up with the correct screen resolution and everything works perfectly, but this only happens very rarely. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

does this problem occur on external screen?

  • Low resolution pictures in Safari macbook pro vs Google Chrome

I have both Safari (7.0.5) and Google Chrome (35.0.1916.153) on my MacBook Pro Retina running OSX 10.9.4. Viewing my galleri my pictures show in much lower resolution (but not pixelated) in Safari compared to Chrome. It's the same on my iPad. The first few milliseconds though viewing the pictures in Safari they seem to have good resolution. I wood prefer to use Safari but due to this I am using Chrome. Any solution?

Yes.  The retina MBPs have all of those components soldered to the logic board and currently there are no third party SSDs available.
Is the 2012 chassis available with retina display?
    NO.
Which model is best for the long term?
. That is difficult to answer. Personally I would wait until the next retina MBP introduction and order it to my personal requirements. The final decision is yours.

  • All text in Preview is low resolution and Times italics is twisted

I have two issues that may be related.
All text from PDF documents in Preview (version 3.0.8) appears in very low resolution, reminiscent of the days of 72-dpi jaggy fonts.
Italics in Times prints out in a bizarre twisted fashion.
The affected system is a early-model G4 first with OS 10.4.7 and then 10.4.8.
Regarding the Preview problem, bitmapped images don't appear to be affected. Printout is not affected. Acrobat is not affected. A screenshot of Preview's output is at http://www.fluxsoft.com/images/previewlowres.jpg.
What's displayed there is a good rendition of the output on 23-inch Apple Cinema display.
A screenshot of Times in plain and the twisted italics is at
    http://www.fluxsoft.com/images/twisted_italics.jpg
    The following steps were taken:
A full Onyx 1.7.4 cleaning, which includes the deleting font caches.
FontBook was run to resolved duplicate fonts and to verfiy all fonts.
The system was upgraded to 10.4.8 from 10.4.7.
    Power Mac G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Power Mac G5

I figured it out by myself.
Somehow, really do not know how!, *FontExplorer X pro* deactivated a couple of SYSTEM FONTS such as Arial, Verdana, and others. This caused not only Safari but many other applications to behave in a weird way in terms of the fonts. Just activated back the fonts and problem solve.
Now, as I said before, +how in da' **** those fonts got de-activated?!+
