Storedge C2 autoloader

Hi,
I have connected a Storedge C2 autoloader tape drive to one of my Sun boxes running Solaris 10 and was just wondering if there was a way to control the tape drive other than using the web interface.
At present the tape drive is configured as random and I have a very simple shell script which basically dumps spceified directories onto the tape loaded in the drive. Now my understanding of the C2 is that you can wither have sequential mde (writes to the current tape until EOF and then loads the next tape) or random mode which can be specified by the user or backup software. Since I am not running back up software and just using the built in UNIX command vfsdump etc... is there a way I can change the tapes automatically so that a specific tape is used on the same day of the week every week? Currently I am using the GIU to manually change the tape each day.
I assume that since the GUI is able to do it there is some underlying commands which are executed in order for these disks to be moved. Ultimately if I knew
these command I would incorporate them into my script.
Also if I try telneting to the tape drive I am prompted with a Pinon Debug Terminal asking for a login and password. These credentials I dont know.
So if anyone can give me some advice I would appreciate it.

  • StorEdge L9 Autoloader on Solaris 8

    Hi,
I recently found a StorEdge L9 Autoloader with Quantum DLT8000 unused in my organisation and trying to get it work.
The Autoloader looks to be working and I can run manual UFSDUMPS onto the tape. However, I have problems all over to get MTX working with the Autoloader working.
I installed MTX from sunfreeware.com and have edited the /kernel/drv/sgen.conf file to reflect as follows:
    device-type-config-list="changer","sequential";
    inquiry-config-list= "*", "*";
and have enabled all lines like
    name="sgen" class="scsi" target=0 lun=0;
However, after a recofigure reboot I cannot find the /dev/scsi/changer/ being created. However, I can see /dev/scsi/sequential/ being created.
The probe-scsi-all from OBP shows as follows:
    ok probe-scsi-all

As you can see, the Quantum DLT8000 shows up but nothing at all about the autoloader. I'm not sure if it would be listed there but I've googled a lot and can find people say it should be.
The SCSI IDs are "0" for Autoloader and "1" for Drive. The Autoloader and the A1000 are conncted to the same Differential SCSI card on the server. However, disconnecting the A1000 doesn't help as well.

Managed to get this problem fixed just when I was at the end of the rope.
I realised once when there was a problem with a external SCSI tape drive on a DELL 2850 (RHEL3), I have to shutdown the server and the Tape drive, disconnect all the cables to drain any static energies in there and reconnect the cables and start the server wich eventually fixed the problem.
As a last resort, I tried this by disconnecting all the SCSI cables and the switching off the devices, power-off the server and leave for a few minutes and restarted with the autochanger connected to the port where the A1000 was connected and bingo, probe-scsi-all was able to see the autoloader and then the tape drive. Shutdown again and connected the A1000 to the port where the L9 was connected earlier and all was fine.
Rebooted the server a few times and all was fine. Edited the /kernel/drv/sgen.conf file and rebooted the server and I can see the "/dev/scsi/changer" and MTX does respond.
Hope this helps someone who has a similar problem.

  • Storedge c2 tape autoloader not detected in veritas netbackup 6.5

    Hi,
I am facing the below problem
storedge c2 tape autoloader not detected in veritas netbackup 6.5
    #modinfo | grep sg
    shows sgen driver
#mt -f /dev/rmt/1 status shows the HP LTO media when tape is loaded in the drive
    # cfgadm -a
shows bot the drive and the changer
but when i try to detect the same in veritas netbackup, it says no removeable drives found
Any helps would be highly apreciated
    thanks in advance

    Hello,
Netbackup cannot see the devices if sg driver is not loaded.
Once you installed the veritas netbackup, do the following steps to properly load the sg driver.
    To Load the drivers.
    1. cd /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/driver //You should change to this directory before doing the following steps
    2.     /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/sg.build all -mt 15 -ml 1
    3.     cp –pr /kernel/drv/sg.conf /kernel/drv/sg.conf.bak
    4.     rm -f /kernel/drv/sg.conf
    5.     /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/driver/sg.install
    6.     modinfo | grep sg
    7.     /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/sgscan // To verify

The L280 (or HP SureStore Autoloader 718) contains a DLT7000 drive. There is no reason why the generic SCSI tape driver doesn't support these drives.
If you're asking for software to control the autoloader, a similar software like Veritas NetBackup is required. Veritas supplies a replacement driver.
Now I see why your L280 doesn't work with your HP server. The L280 requires a HVD (High Voltage Differential) SCSI controller. The standard SCSI interface is SE (Single Ended) or LVD (Low Voltage Differential). Neither SE nor LVD are compatible with HVD. You won't see the device and can even damage the device and/or the controller.
Get a HVD SCSI controller (Symbios SYM22802, Part-No 375-0006) or Adaptec AHA-2944UW (not AHA-2940UW which is SE!!).
The Sun labeled HP Autoloaders (StorEdge L9, L280) use HVD SCSI while the original ones (SureStore 1/9, 718) use LVD or SE SCSI.

  • Intel Xserve and SCSI Tape Autoloader - Not Being Seen

I have a brand new intel xserve with the added scsi card. I have a sun storedge L9 attached to the system and am unsure how to get the system to detect it. I am sure that the hardware and cables are all compatible. System profiler shows the scsi card and channels but doesnt show anything connected.
Is there a way to browse/search the scsi bus?

Yes, I am using that POS lsilogic. With the new card,
does the device show up in system profiler?
It does with the ATTO. It sometimes would with the 22320.
I am a little unsure where to look for my
autoloader... sys profiler, /dev/?, disk util?
System Profiler. There is no /dev/? for it.
Each backup program has to provide their own set of drivers
    that access the SCSI card.
Tolis Group (makers of the BRU backup utility) sells a set
of tape tools that makes standard unix tools (tar, etc.) work
with autoloaders and tape drives. They also sell BRU, a
tape backup utility. Retrospect (EMC) also has drivers to
control autoloaders. Both BRU and Retrospect have trial
versions for download that you might try.

  • [ Sun StorageTek SL24  Autoloader ] Automate tape movement

For years we have been using Sun autoloaders, and initially we used
    Sun StorEdge C2 Ultrium 3
But recently due to stop of production we had to switch to StorageTek SL24.
Unfortunately part of our process uses web interface to switch the tapes automatically by sending HTTP request to autoloader:
    Ex: http://<autoloader-hostname>/move.cgi?from=<from-slot>&to=<to-slot>&submit=submit
This worked with StorEdge C2, but when we got StorageTek SL24, the web interface is much different and stricter.
    1) Only adimn can do the tape movements
    2) Even with admin authenticated request sent to autoloader
    http://<autoloader-hostname>/RMUMoveElements?move=Move >&unique_table_radio0=S<from-slot - 1>_0_0&unique_table_radio1=S<to-slot - 1>_0_3
    did not worked.
Is there way to remove tapemovement authentication requirement for simple requuest, and is there request I could use to do this automatically (for example via get) ?
Is there another way I could perform tapemovement from bash or, some c comnad (like SCSI command for tape movement).
    All the best,
    Sofra.

    Hi all,
I also used Autoloader C2 and used to use a script and the web interface to manage the tapes but now we've acquired 2 SL24 and i'm afraid this is not possible anymore.
As stated before, it's possible to manage the tape library with mtx. I've found documentation for other tape libraries and would be very much appreciated if you could share your experience & example code regarding mtx and the StorageTek SL24.
    Thanks in advance

  • Connecting a Storedge 3320 SCSI enclosure to a 4200M2 (Windows 2003)

Does anyone know the steps to connect a StorEdge 3320 SCSI enclosure to a 4200M2 (Windows 2003)?
I have connected the array in a single-bus configuration - Chanel 3 to the Host.
Using the StorEdge Configuration Service Console - I am able to see the disks and create the logical drives.
When I reboot the server the new hardware wizard runs (found - SUN StorEdge 3320 SCSI Enclosure Device) - I cannot find a driver for this.
Under Disk Management the Disks do not show up at all.
    Any Ideas?

    Hello Tom,
I am trying to find a driver for <the StorEdge C2> to use on Windows 2003.
can anyone direct me to the correct driver for this device?
Get a backup application with autoloader, tapechanger or library support..
I have been using a general HP LTO3 driver but it appears that the device uses the same SCSI id for the media changer and for the tape drive.
Yes, same SCSI-ID, but different LUN,
Under Unix/Linux/Solaris you can use mtx to control the robot/changer or any commercial backup program with the above options/support.

  • NDMP configuration using NAS 5210 and L8 Autoloader with EBS 7.2 software

    Hi all,
We are trying to configure "NDMP".
We have connected the L8 Autoloader directly to the NAS 5210. Installed the SUN StorEdge EBS 7.2 with one ndmp client licence on blade 2500 system.
we are able to see the autoloader from NAS 5210 using "ndmp devices" command. But, when we are trying to backup using EBS software(scheduled backup) it says "no matching devices found; no storagenodes, no pools" and the backup is failing.
We also tried using the command line
"nsrndmp_save" it gives an error " could not open connecting on port 10000 on system name". I have increase the "connection port range" also.
I request if there is any similar setup with EBS 7.2 please respond.
    Regards,
    Vijay

    A bit strange.
Just removing and adding Networker packages again solved the problem.

  • Logic 7 Autoload in Logic 8??

Is there anyway I can transfer my Logic 7 autoload into Logic 8?>
I have just installed Logic 8 on my machine and still have logic 7 residing on there also. I also have my autoload template (new key commands etc) on my desktop.
Can I open this within Logic 8 as it has just opened a standard arrange page and all the key commands feel very odd!
Surely I dont have to redo my whole autoload again??

    1. Key commands are global in both L7 and L8 and not tied to an Autoload.
    2. Using L7 songs, including an Autoload can be a bumpy ride.
If you must however, I recommend:
    1. Open the Autoload in L7.
    2. Go into the Environment and delete all your audio channels, auxes, busses. outputs etc.
    3. Delete the Undo history.
    4. Save it under another name.
    5. Quit L7, open L8, and then load the renamed Autoload.
    6. Re-populate your audio tracks, auxes, busses, outputs, etc.
    7. Save it as a Template project.
I know that is a fair amount of work but in my experience it is the safe way to go.

  • StorEdge 3510 FC Array Transport/Hard Errors

We have a StorEdge 3510 connected to a V440 running Solaris 9. /var/messages indicates no errors however iostat -e shows hard and transport errors that increment continuously. If I access the controller on the 3510 I can see transport errors when I look at the Fibre Chanel errors on the drive side. The system contains 2 controllers in redundant mode, however we only have one FC cable path to the HBA on the V440. I have replaced the fibre cable to the HBA, the GBIC and swapped the controllers all of which have not resolved the issue. I have also had a case open with Sun for 2 months and they have no idea.
What could be causing these errors?

I presume that by now you have sorted this problem, but in case not, 512Gb is the maximum logical drive size when the i/o optimisation is random.
On the max disk size, I read somewhere that VxFS might help.
I found your query when looking for help on directing StorEdge events to the syslogd on our central loghost - which I still haven't found out how to do!?
