Storing and displaying web sites
Hi,
I'm writing an RSS Aggregator and I want to be able to download an HTML web site and present it to the user in a nice way. I know there are some very nice existing browsers out there, but the problem is they all take a URL. Therefore, they require an active internet connection to view the site. I would like, if possilbe, to be able to store the HTML so that even if the user is not online they can still view it.
So far all I've come up with is storing the HTML as a String, but that doesn't capture images or style information and ends up not looking very nice when you put it in a JEditorPane. It's not absolutely crucial to be able to capture images, but it would certainly be nice. Of course, I don't expect to be able to follow links with my off-line application either - I'm not trying to download the entire internet!

Ok so I did some more investigation on this serialize

storing a web site and this it! Supposedly there is
an easy fix to the HTMLDocument class but I guess
Sun's developers just haven't gotten around to it
yet???
So is it conceivable that I could change Java's
source code to fix this problem for me? I feel like
this is the tool I am looking for and the solution is
right there, there's just this stupid little easy to
fix bug which is preventing me from getting this
thing working. Any insight?

-PedenI don't think you can get your changes into JDK 1.6 since that is in RC. I don't know if you can submit code to 1.7 yet, but that would be an option.
You shouldn't try to modify the class for an existing version since the VM won't load it (unless you place it on the bootclasspath)

Can't access online backup and sharing web site
Does anyone know how to access the Online Backup and Sharing web site from a computer that does not have the O/B/S software installed? I used to be able to go to My Verizon/My Services/Internet and hit "Launch" for O/B/S, and the link would go directly to the web site for uploading or downloading material. Now, that link takes me to a Verizon page that asks to activate the O/B/S service, and wants to download the software. My O/B/S service was activated years ago and has worked until recently without the software installed. There is no other obvious way to get to the O/B/S web site. (If it matters, I tried this in both IE 9, with Windows 7 64-bit, and Safari.)
After some effort, I got the help number for the outside vendor that runs the O/B/S service. They say that the Verizon web site should link directly to their O/B/S web site, regardless of whether or not the O/B/S software is installed locally, but that the failure to do so is entirely an error of Verizon's on the Verizon web site and they have nothing to do with it. They also said there is no way to bypass the Verizon web site to get to a Verizon O/B/S account on their web site. They said they have received many complaints about this from Verizon O/B/S customers, and that the same problem has even arisen when the O/B/S software is installed on the local computer.
So does anyone know if it is really necessary to install the O/B/S software on any computer used to access O/B/S, and if it is now impossible to access the material from any other computer? That would be a major reduction in the usefulness of the service that was not announced anywhere that I know of. I saw a strong of comments on this issue in the Forums from a few years ago, but the conclusion was that the problem had been fixed. It seems to have arisen again.Anthony, I tried to private message you several times, but I kept getting an error message stating that my message had invalid HTML that was being removed, and to resend. It did not actually have any HTML, and hitting the resend button just led to the same message.
Also, since my last post, I downloaded the OBS software onto my computer. This gave me access to OBS from that computer. However, even after doing this, I cannot use the old method of directly getting to the OBS web site from My Verizon. The link from "Launch" does not work either on the computer with the OBS software or on any other computer. Rather, the link goes only to the Verizon page saying that my OBS service has not been activated (which it surely has been) and asking to download the OBS software.
If this is happening to everyone and not just to me, this means that material stored on OBS is only available from a computer that has the OBS software downloaded on it. That is certainly not supposed to be the case, and it would make OBS much less useful.
Again, the OBS technical people said that this was a problem that they knew about, but it was entirely a problem with the Verizon web site that they could not do anything about. -
I am getting error messages on several different pages that my cookies are blocked but checking the Tools - Options - Privacy accept cookies and accept 3rd party cookies are both enabled and the web sites are not listed under the exceptions button

I am currently having issues with deleting a content database for mysites which has web application http://<servername>:11100. The database was migrated from sharepoint 2010, but on creating web app it timed out (was corrupt due to this). Problem
is I cannot delete now as I get "Request Timed Out". Even when I try just deleting the Web App or the Content Database individually. I have already updated the timeout on the Central Admin App Pool to 300. This used to work, but no joy now. Seems
like ever since I added this My Sites Web App I am getting this problem.
The setup is 1 Database Server (64GB), 1 Admin Server (24GB) and 3 WFE Servers (12GB each) - all VMS. System is also running PowerPivot. Central Admin is running on a WFE server. Is this setup OK for just one user? Reason I have 3 WFE is this already existed
and App Servers will be scaled out when we start testing. Running 11 Web Applications.
Help appreciated - any ideas?

OH - I tried to delete with powershell and it tells me it requires SHarePoint Administration Service to be running, but the problem is it is already running on the WFE with Central Admin on.Hi John,
The timeout may cause this issue. But would you let me know the error message when we delete the database?
However, you can delete the web application(my site host) and click delete database and IIS web site option.
Also, you can try to clean cache and check if issue persists:
Please stop SharePoint Timer Service.
Please navigate to the cache.ini file location:
Delete all the .xml file and only leave cache.ini in the file location.
Edit the Cache.ini file and set it to 1.
Save the Cache.ini file
Start SharePoint Timer Service. The cache file will be created autumnally.

I am trying to install CS6. I down loaded it last week and am trying to install it now but it fails. What do I do now that Install says, "Installer failed to initialize. Please download Adobe Support advisor to detect the problem." and your web site says it is discontinued?

I have and existing web site and domain name. I'd like to know how to import into iweb. I currently use Yahoo's sitebuilder to build my site but Sitebuilder is not compatible with the iMac

I will be deleting my Firefox. It will not open at all, and this web site is absolutely not help.
I cannot get firefox to open. I have tried closing it using task manager. This web site is useless for getting help. I will be deleting this browser and going back to Chrome. It works.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Backward and forward in GL and in Web site
Two parts to this:
PART 1, INSIDE GO LIVE
Let's say I am viewing one page, page A. On that page I click a link that takes me to page B while closing page A. After viewing page B I want to return to page A.
If this were a browser, I'd simply click the back button or Command-[ and go back to page A.
But within GoLive 7, there is, as near as I can find, no way to click anything to go back to page A. I simply have to go back to the site window and reopen that page. Even Key Shortcuts lists nothing.
Is there a way?
PART 2, WITHIN A WEB SITE
Let's say I am viewing a page, page Th with thumbnails of some of my work. I click one of the thumbnails which takes me to a page with a larger image, call it page L.
Having looked at page L I now want to return to page Th. How do I do that?
Here is an example of how someone else did it, I think, using a numbering system.

If you click on one of the triangles left or right you move forward or backward one image.
I'd like to do something similar. Perhaps using the triangles in Zapf Dingbats, create a component. In the component, make the left arrow go back to the previously viewed page, whatever it happened to be. And make the right arrow go to the next page in sequence. (Not sure how to determine that as I have no numbering sequence and do not want one at this point. But a step at a time.)Since I am not a fan of encouraging continued use of elements specific to discontinued software, here is how you would do it in any editor...

Firefox crashes when I try to print from Yahoo mail and some web sites
I am running Mac, OSX 10.4.11. Firefox has automatically upgraded me to version 3.6.15 and variations in between for months now.
I have been having problems printing to my Epson CS5800F for at least a couple of weeks if not months. I'm not really sure which version it began with, only that it's been weeks.
Printing from web sites is intermittent. From Yahoo! mail it is almost daily. I have downloaded and reinstalled the Epson printer drivers which seemed to solve the problem for about a day. Then I was right back where I started. I am very frustrated and aggravated because I need to be able to print e-mail and web site information. And I did not have this problem in the past.
Is there a fix for this problem? Can I revert back to an earlier version of Firefox where I did not have this problem? I cannot upgrade my OSX to fix this... as this is not an option on this Mac.

I am looking at your about: crashes advice to find crash incidences, but there is no "about: crashes" on my location bar... I have 8 options under about and none of them say crashes.

Okay... i pasted it below, as I didn't read that far down before I posted it here. I cannot find the Crash ID(s) which would be in multiples this past week.
I have submitted all crash reports, at the time of crashing, or so it seems, as the crash report window says it will report my crashes. There have been many in the past week... too many to count. And, I have requested help in the last 3 or 4 of them... and entered my e-mail address, plus a request for assistance, but so far, no replies or information has been submitted back to me at my e-mail address. So, I am wondering if this really works, and if you are getting my reports at all.
I really need to get this problem fixed so I can stop wasting so much time restarting and copying and pasting items into text to print. This is not how a browser should work. And I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback I can get to resolve this problem asap. I need to be efficient in my work and this is not allowing that.

what happens is you type in the url and press enter then nothing. the fix was to run "netsh winsock reset"
If the winsock key reset helped things, that usually indicates trouble with a LSP. (That's also consistent with a 'silent" Safari page-load failure.) If you run into the problem again, perhaps try the following document:

Safari not displaying web site image
I have a website that is suddenly not displaying the header image in Safari and IE5.2.
I have my suspicions that it is due to a JavaScript from Google to run their Analytics programme which I installed a few days ago, (and will shortly remove it to confirm the suspicion or otherwise.)
But first I wish to check if other people are experiencing the same problem, or if it is localized to my computer. (Need to be able to inform Google if their script is the fault and affects all Safari users or only some versions. So please check the site and report results here, including your Safari version. Mine is Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6) and Internet Explorer 5.2 for Mac.

What I see in Firefox, Netscape, Opera, and Camino is a flash title over a colored background with a photo.
Thats what I saw in Safari until recently too. But suddenly all I now see in Safari and IE is the flash title over a gray background, no photo, and above the menu bar a very thin strip of color (about 1mm, 1/16in). The sidebar images are unaffected (and those images at the side work fine in all the browsers), it is just the header.
Can you please tell me what you see and the browser version?

Updates:
I can see only a gray color behind my flash title on http://www.paintmaking.com in Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6) and Internet Explorer 5.2.3 (5815.1). What should be there is a colored header image.
I have established that other people can see the image correctly, including on the same builds of Safari and IE and on the same OS (10.3.9). An exception is someone using Shiira who can only see gray in Shiira, but sees colors in other browsers including Safari.
On my computer Netscape 7.2, Firefox, Mozilla, Opera and Camino can all see the image correctly.
Safari and IE have the same problem displaying the image on all the accounts on my eMac.
I have: cleared cache with no improvement, checked Safari Preferences (Java enabled, JavaScript enabled, and 'display images as pages open' is checked.
I have removed the software that I installed recently. (MacTracker)
I have removed a piece of JavaScript added recently (from Google to facilitate their Analytics programme)
The only major thing I have done lately that is out of the ordinary is to Clone my OS X hard drive to an external drive using SuperDuper.
I don't seem to be having problems with other websites.
So how can this be? If the problem is in my computer why only the one site affected? (I checked several sites) Yet if the problem is with the site then why can other people see the site correctly?

Hello! I am Designer with zero knowledge of coding, but have been setting up many wordpress and phpBB sites based on tutorials.
I can design a website failry well with CS6 tools. But cant get the hang of making 'responsive' websites. (I know that I should learn a bit of coding, but, honestly, it just doesnt get into my head unless I take structured classes.)
Can anyone point me to a simple step by step guide to crafting a responsive layout? Preferably written (not video).
(By the way: Love the new Adobe website look.)Building modern web sites without a fundamental knowledge of code is like trying to drive a car blindfolded. You may reach your destination but you'll break things (many things) along the way.
CS6 Fluid Grid Layouts require a working knowledge of HTML, CSS & Media Queries because you will need to manually tweak the code. Fluid Grids are a quick start; not a quick solution.

You can use your domain ( old web address ) for the new site created in Muse.
If you are using Business Catalyst , then you can publish the site and the through domain settings add the domain to your site.
And if you are uploading the site to any external server then you can upload Muse file to root location where the domain is already added.

Getting the company on one footer, and the web site on the other
Hi All,
I am trying to get the correct footer on the correct page. I create proposals, and I have a 2-page master called "Proposal Base". The screenshots are below. I have created two text boxes on each, one for the information I want to show on that page, and one for the page number. All text is set to "Away from Center".
Left Page:

So here's the problem:
I have some one-page masters that are based on Proposal Base, but I don't know if they're going to be placed on the left or the right. I have to customize each proposal, so I usually end up overwriting all master page items anyway.
I keep ending up with this:
I either get a jumble or I get the company name on both sides. I want it consisten throughout the document, Company Name on the left side and web site on the right. How can I accomplish this? Should I apply "Proposal Base" throughout the document, then override all master page items, then apply the other masters (with the footers taken out of them?) I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around this one. Any help would be appreciated.I'm having some trouble here understanding the problem.
If there shold be a different footer left and right, then you should be doing as Janice suggests and use a two page master. Adding a single page will swap all following pages left for right, and the footers will change to match. The footer on the new page will also be appropriate fo the side of the spine on which it is placed. It sounds to me like you don't need this single page master at all if it has the same footer information. If you need a master with no footer, you can add that, however.
