Story Order

We are experimenting with using InCopy in a translation workflow.
We have added all stories to a new assignment. We noticed that the stories appeared in a different order in the assignment palette to how they are in ithe InDesign file.
We reordered them in the palette so they were in the correct order but once opened in InCopy they were still in the wrong order.
How can we make sure they appear in the correct order, if they are out of order the context will be incorrect resulting in a confused translator!
Also when we delete stories from the assignment panel they still appear as individual files in the incopy folder.

I think normal text exporting follows the order in which the text was added to the file.
But Rorohiko (www.rorohiko.com) has a plug-in called Text Exporter which enables you to stipulate the order in which stories are exported. When I got it it was free.
I believe it uses a similar principle to ToC construction by actually scanning through the document from front to back and will let you select pages from which to export.

    Hi. I'm just learning to use the Table of Contents function in ID. I'm having trouble where there are multiple stories on a single page (for example, a section header at the top of the page that's a separate text block from the longer running text below). How can I force the order of the Level 1 and Level 2 entries into the proper order?

    Hoping this explains why you are seeing the incorrect order issue in your ToC:
    Table of Contents text that is sourced from separate stories on a page will appear top to bottom, left to right, so if some of your headings start further to the 'left', they would appear earlier in the ToC.
    Additionally ToC text from threaded stories will appear BEFORE the headings, if those headings appear on later pages.
    To avoid this from happening there are a number of things to attempt:
    thread your frames where possible, don't use 'loosely' placed headers
    where you have multiple short stories on a page it's more difficult, esp if they are magazine style. you can try and cheat by making frames wider and using text indent to position the text left/right, so that indesign only uses the 'top to bottom' approach and doesn't consider text that starts 'further to the right' as something that must appear later.

  • Is it possible to return a HP printer that I did not order from HP?

    Back story:
    Ordered an HP Officejet 6500 E709n wireless all-in-one from an online retailer. It wouldn't connect wirelessy and after trying to instal it 3 times the printer itself "locked up" and none of the buttons would work --including power. So, I called HP and they sent out a replacement. This printer wouldn't connect wirelessly so I figured must be my network issues and after 4 days of trying just gave up and connected via USB cable. Voila! The printer would print. However, after I printed one document and then didn't print anything for oh, say 10 minutes, the printer "locked up" and none of the buttoms would work. No scan, no copy, nada. So to print, I have to unplu and replug the printer. I give up. I'll go back to the old Epson. Called HP support where I am still on hold with someone overseas. She is telling me I can send one printer back but the one I ordered from the online retailer is their responsibility. I can't return it to the online retailer because it has been more than 15 days since I ordered it. (Thanks to HP service which told me to return it to them after receiving the replacement refurbished printer.)
    So, is there anyone at HP who will take this defective printer back? Or  am I stuck with a printer that won't work? ANyone have ideas for what to do with it?

    Anyway, if you can get a Mac to read your discs, try Streamclip to extract the video TS file. That also is dependent of whether the format of that camera creates a video ts file on disc.

  • Best Buy Total Disappointment

    The story:
    Ordered an iPad Air Sunday evening(10/26/2014). According to tracking info it was supposed to be delivered Wednesday. Stayed home for most of the day but had to go to one short meeting at noon when received the email from UPS that the package was LEFT at my front door at 12! I was shocked - how could they leave it without me having signed it? I drove as fast as I could - got there by 1 pm. No package.
    Took hours to get a person both at UPS and then at Best Buy. UPS said Best Buy doesn't require signature: it is their problem. Best Buy took my info. Today I received a call from Best Buy. They left a voice message: "Good Morning, this is Ella, calling from Best Buy. I am trying to contact ……. In regards to your Apple iPad Air. We apologize for the delay. I was able to confirm that it was delivered yesterday with UPS. In case you need to ask any question concerning this call just feel free to give a call back. The direct number is 146-745-685." yes, of course I would like to call back! It is not a delay!! I don't have a product! But that is NOT s real phone number! Whom do I call? The call came from a number 490-17. That is NOT a real number either.
    So I call back Best Buy on their 1-888 number again. First agent: takes my info then puts me on hold. After 15 minutes of waiting the machine tells me that my call could not be processed and I needed to hang up. Agent #2 - he tells me that Best Buy requires signature and it was the fault of UPS that they left the package at my door. He told me that they had to wait for UPS to get back with the result of the investigation but according to Ella they already had a response from UPS - stating that UPS had delivered the package yesterday. I tell the agent that I want a replacement but I don't want it to be shipped - I will pick it up at a store. He says, that's impossible, they have to reship it. I said, okay just do it then. "We will as soon as we have the proof that you don't have it." What proof? I just told him that the package was left with no signature and now its gone. I don't have the product! UPS says that they delivered it. How can I prove that I don't have it? I ask to speak to a manager. I insist. I can clearly sense the agent thinks I am a liar and fraud! He hangs up on me...
    We have been buying everything for years at Best Buy. Many computers, tablets, phones etc. Always paid on time, never had any problem. This is utterly insulting. Calling my credit card company. Will not pay for something I have never received!

    I’m sure you were eager to open your iPad Air once it arrived, and just as concerned when you found your package not to be on your steps when you arrived home.
    Typically customers will receive a confirmation email, as well as email updates with tracking information as their order processes and ships. That being said, many of our packages do not require a signature for delivery. I am truly sorry if this has led to your current predicament.

  • Questions about track listing and album

    I have burnt my collection of an audio drama I have on CD and transferred them to the Creative Vision M. The problem is the tracks play in alphabetical order, not in the numerical order (as in #1, 2, 3, etc.)
    I've gone and used MP3 Tag Editor to check the tracks 3 times. On my Archos, the tracks play according to order by #1(which happens to be the story order). How can I fix this order?
    Also, album isn't displayed despite the fact they've been attached using MP3 Tag Editor. The art is displayed on my Zune and the Archos but not on the Vision M.

    It could have something to do with the file system that was used... my old Zen MuVO played whatever I added in the order it was added because the file system was a external flash drive system. The Zune and the Zen both may use a different file system that plays and sort the tracks based on certain tag info. I know that from what I've read on here that the file system that the Zen uses is the main reason why SD card integration is impossible.

    I use Dreamweaver CS3 to create my sites on a Windows/Apache
    Server with PHP5 and Mysql 5. The site works perfectly on my
    testing server at home. On the Web server I'm getting the following

    MySql would not work unless I changed to their Linux platform at no
    additional charge.
    The site I have in mind will design with CSS, Liquid layout,
    have some flash, widgets, an inquiry form that clients complete and
    results e-mailed to me, auto-responder, Paypal link and whatever
    else I can discover from Dreamweaver.
    My question being:
    I haven't even begun designing my site because I do not know
    what weather I should select the Yes option and select one of the
    formats mentioned above (if so which one) - or select the No
    option. If I do select the No option at the very beginning, will I
    have problems with my site uploading and working correctly?

  • Moving images within a collection?

    Having just watched Julieanne K's tutorial re making a Blurb book, she began with her images in a story order.  How does one move images within a collection to an order different from how they were uploaded or taken?  I guess it is simple, but I cannot seem to do it.

    Actually, you don't have to select User Order.  In Library mode, view the grid and simply drag and drop the thumbnails into the order you want, and that prompt will automatically change to User Order from whatever order it was in before.

    does anyone know how to convert a unix timestamp to readable
    dd-mm-yy format? ive tried using the date_format function in SQL
    but that doesnt work?
    anyone have any ideas?
    the field "created" is the timestamp.

    The MySQL DATE_FORMAT() function is for use with ISO dates
    (YYYY-MM-DD)

  • Editing Music Tracks

    Hello
    I have just starting to play with fcp x.  As a long time broadcast editor I thought it was about time to learn it.
    I have done a short showreel for a friend which is a great way to learn!  I put some pictures down in story order and then put a track of music down to cut too.
    I needed to edit the music down to length, but I could find no way to add an in point or out point to the music track, all it did was add the in points to the video (and its audio) track above.  In the end I used the razor blade and cut the music where I wanted and then dragged it back to make the edit.  Also I could not get the music track into trim mode..  Is this the only way to edit music tracks?  Any info would be great.

    No need to use the blade tool. Just trim the audio clip by dragging the edge of the clip. With snapping turned on, it will be easy to align the end points.

  • Article fields appear in a random order when viewed in story and galley view

    Is it possible to amend Incopy so that all article fields appear in a consistent order for all articles and users when viewed in Story and Galley view?

    The Finder sorts photos alphanumerically or by date.  It has no "random" capability.  So if you want your manually sorted photos in iPhoto to remain in the same order you need to do one of the following;
    #1
    1 - select the photos in the album as you want them sorted and use the Photo ➙ Batch Rename ➙ Title to Text with a sequential number added to each file name.
    2 - Export the photos to a folder on the Desktop via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with the File Name = Title option.
    #2
    1 - Select the album containing the photo in the order you want and export to a folder on the Desktop via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  menu option with the File Name = Album name with \ number option.
    Either method will give you files that will appear in the Finder in the order as they were in iPhoto.

  • New technique to place multiple anchored objects in InDesign story

    Hello,
    For a while I have been trying to figure out how to insert multiple anchored objects into an Indesign story. As far as I can tell, you cannot copy multiple objects that have already been placed in a document (such as a multi-page pdf) into an InDesign story, but must copy and paste them one-by-one into the story. This is a problem for a project I am working on where I want to have a large number of 340x52 pt pdfs to flow throughout a document in a master text frame interspersed with text.
    I have now found a solution for this issue that I thought I would share in case it would be helpful for anyone. It utilizes Automator actions for Mac OS X and Microsoft Word 2011 [2008 may work also, but I don't have a copy of that to test]; I am not good with scripting but perhaps similar solutions could be found for other systems and programs.
    1. If you want to place a multipage pdf within a text frame, first it into individual files for each page (with Acrobat Pro or pdftk or something similiar).
    2. Create an Automator service or program with the action "Create New Word Document". You can also use another automator action to save the document, or save it manually (to change the filename). In the finder, select the items you want, then run the service or drag them into the Automator program you have created.
    3. Place the word document into your InDesign story. Your items will now be anchored objects ordered in your text frame as they were in the finder.
    Please let me know if this is helpful or if anyone has suggestions for doing this process is a more efficient way. I am not sure, but it may be the case that this approach would only work on Macs, as I gather from this thread.

    I might note that I am using InDesign CS 5, and importing from a document stored in docx format.

  • Infinity Order Delay - Worried

    Hi folks,
    Hoping someone can advise me on what to do here, because I am starting to stress out a little bit over my current situation.
    Firstly, my back story.  I'm currently a BT Broadband customer, but I am moving to a new home where BT Infinity is available, so I ordered the BT Infinity 2 package.  I was originally hoping to move on the 10th Dec, but BT told me that the earliest they can move my connection over to my new place is on the 19th due to requiring an engineer visit.  Now for an average person, that just means 9 days without internet, no big deal right?  Not for me though because in my case, I work full time online.  If I'm not able to work, I lose money.
    So I delayed my move to the 19th thanks to my current landlord who is letting me stay a bit longer, although it does mean I'm having to double up on paying rent for two different properties since I have already signed the lease for my new apartment.. but it's ultimately cheaper than me taking those 9 days off.
    Anyway, the issue and the reason I'm here today is because I just received an email with the following message:
    A survey is required by our engineers before we can progress your order, this will result in a delay in us providing you with BT Infinity Broadband service.
    We apologise for the delay and can assure you we are working as quickly as possible towards a solution, we will be in touch as soon as we have a further update.
    You can track the progress of your order by visiting www.bt.com/myorder, using your order number [removed for privacy reasons] 
    Due to my online profession, this email is very worrying for me.  I do not know how long this delay will be, or when my order will actually be completed.  I've heard horror stories of delayed orders taking weeks to complete, and with it being so close to Christmas, I'm worried I'm about to suffer the same fate.  The order progress on the website however still shows the 19th as being the date in which my service will be activated, along with the engineer visit.  
    I was hoping today to finalise my removal services so that I could be at my new place on the 19th, but now I don't know what to do because I don't know now whether I'll need to extend my stay here further just so that I have a working connection or not.  I only have another day or two before that choice is no longer an option.  I really hope there's a way to escape this fate, even if it means changing my package so that an engineer visit isn't required.  Anything just to have the connection set up by the 19th or at least within a couple of days of that date, as I cannot afford to take time off work, nor can I afford to keep paying rent for two different properties just for the sake of maintaining an internet connection.
    If anyone has any advice on what to do in this unusual situation, please let me know.  The move itself is already stressful enough, but this is definitely pushing my stress levels through the roof.

    I am just a regular user with a residential line/package.  I just tried using the phone number they've given me for my new place on the BT business website, but it says that BT business is not available in my area yet oddly enough.  Furthermore I do use my connection often outside of work for gaming.. etc, so not sure if I would suit a business line regardless. (To be honest, I don't really know the differences between the two.. but it seems like it's not an option regardless)
    My main concern right now is getting a connection up and running by the 19th (or at least before Christmas) at my new place, even if it means having to change my Infinity 2 order to a lesser one, if I can even do that. (I wouldn't be overly happy with doing that, but a working connection is more important than having to potentially wait weeks after the 19th for one)
    Would an Infinity 1 package require an engineer visit?  Or would this whole "delay due to an engineer survey" thing affect that too?  Also is it normal that my order summary page still shows the 19th as my activation date, despite the email stating a delay?  The agent on the phone did mention that an engineer would be in the area prior to that date, which is why I had to wait 'til the 19th in the first place despite originally being quoted an earlier date previously. (I ordered originally on the 24th Nov.)  I'm really confused and unsure of what to do right now.. because my whole move is resting on this pretty much.  I should note that my new place apparently has the rare FTTP packages available, allowing me to choose Infinity 3 or 4.  I'm assuming that changing my order to one of those will not change anything though?

  • Infinity order - clear as mud!

    I suspect this is a much oft heard story, but here goes anyway.
    I've been following the rollout in my area and placed an order as soon as the cabinet went live.  Engineer install originally booked on the 15th.  This moved to the 22nd, no reason given, but I assumed it was related to transfer from existing provider, Virgin Media.  BT phoned yesterday to confirm engineer attending ont the 22nd.  Email lands today, order revised, new VOL reference and activation now 23rd - but no engineer appointment and nothing mentioned as to whether this is or is not required.
    Call placed to order management, they explained that VM aren't relinquishing the line until 22nd.  OK - but not as though the supplier change was a secret, so why the late notice?  I pushed for an explanation around the engineer, given holiday season I do not want to be in a position where I am without internet over Christmas and New Year, that is going to result in the hair drier treatment for someone (starting with the wife at me!).....
    So, can anyone offer pointers, or clarity?  Can one of the mods look over the order to separate the wood from the trees?

  • Not getting MY iPhone 6 Plus I ordered on 9/12. seems that if you Billed to Account, they pulled the entire purchase price from any credit/debit card that you used to purchase the phone. Well in my case, the order didn't go thru because the payment method

    Have you gotten your iPhone 6 Plus you pre-ordered on 9/12?? I'm still waiting...till the end of OCTOBER! Because, I billed half to my account, as the system LET me do this and the other half to my debit card. Well they tried to take out the FULL PURCHASE PRICE on 9/23. It didn't go thru and they cancelled the order! I NEVER GOT ANY EMAIL from Verizon! I called this evening to find out the status of my order. Was told that since the device is on backorder, I cannot Bill to Account!!!! I am BEYOND LIVID! I realize that it's "JUST A PHONE' BUT, I should have had my device by Friday! NOW, I have to wait another month at best. I do NOT have credit cards and since this phone is on backorder, will have to wait another week before I can order it and by that time, it'll be CHRISTMAS before I can order a phone. Who knows, I may just save that money and CANCEL EVERY SINGLE LINE on my account. Three will be Month to month so NO ETF's with those lines!

    its a bunch of **. they charged my credit card on sunday, my status still says no payment, no tracking #, they told me my phone was going to ship monday and I've gotten a different story every day since. today they told me they shipped out all the phones and are waiting for more to come in...blah blah blah. i ordered on 9/12 and my friend that ordered the same exact phone on 9/19 got his on tuesday and laughed at me for preordering. I'm very frustrated!

  • Verizon sent out an order I called to cancel, I returned the phones as they told me to, yet after months of calls, I am in the pre-collections stage

    So this journey started back in October. I was with sprint, and wanted out of their service, my contract was up, so I went with Verizon as they are the best in my area for service. My original order was for 2 iPhone 6's and an iPhone 5s. Upon finding out that I would only receive a $200 credit for my old iPhones if I bought only iPhone 6's, I called to cancel that order. Due to the fact the iPhone 6's were backordered they could not cancel my order, but they stated they would make notation on my account so that the order wouldn't ship. So, I then placed a new order for three iPhone 6's to qualify for the promotion. The beginning of November I received three boxes, and too my surprise, it was the first (original) order containing two iPhone 6's and an iPhone 5s. I called Verizon, and they said just send them back, don't open them. I was told there were return labels in the boxes, and there were not. So I then called the local Verizon store to see if I could return them there, they said, no it was an online order, so you have to send them back in. I then went to the website to print return labels, but both links where this was supposedly possible, the links did not work, dead links. At this point I called Verizon back who made a call on my behalf to the Verizon Store to return the phones there. I drove to the store, and when I got there, they suggested I just return the iPhone 5, as they had a 6 in stock, activate these phones, and cancel the second order, so I did. I then called and cancelled the second order, with the same issue, phones were backordered, so notation would be made to the account. Low and behold, 2 weeks later, 3 new iPhone 6's showed up at my door. So I went through the process again, calling customer service, canceling the service and having Verizon send me return labels for the phones. Five days later the return labels showed up, and I immediately returned the phones. I was told as soon as the phones were scanned by Fedex that a $635.97 refund would be issued to my card ( thats right two charges totaling almost $1300). Well that was not the case, It took a few weeks, but the refund was finally issued. Here's were the bigger problems begin, I received my first bill for those lines of service. I called Verizon as I thought this was odd, as the phones had never been out of the box or activated. So, phone call after phone call, Customer Service Rep after Customer Service Rep, I was told that the lines are now cancelled and you will be credited. Well a month goes by, and we are at the end of November, and I get a bill for over $500 dollars. I then call customer service again, tell them my story, stay on the line with patience waiting for the answer, and I am told again things are resolved. November 30th roles around, and I get another bill stating that my lines are disconnected due to non-payment. I call, and spend 52 minutes on the phone with a Customer Service Rep who tells me that everything is all set, he gives me the totals that are to be credited to my account, and I assume everything is well, as I receive no more letters or bills. Well flash forward to January 20, 2015, and I receive a call from an odd number, which turns out is a collection agency for Verizon, as my account is in pre-collections. Can you imagine my frustration, to be honest I am quite upset, so I again call customer service and get pushed to an account specialist. I relay my story, for and I am not joking, the 12th time, at which point I am informed that he cannot help me as the account is closed, and I will have to wait until 7am tomorrow morning to call back and speak with another account specialist. I am so frustrated with this entire situation, keep in mind I still have three active lines with Verizon that have been paid early every month since October. My real question is how many more times am I going to have to call to get this resolved? I have tried more than a dozen times to get this issue fixed, and here I am three months later still fighting this, it is just plain ridiculous and terrible business. How can you charge a customer for phones that he doesn't even have, thats right, I was issued a $635.97 refund on 11/13/2014, so how can I be charged for phones that were returned, and never taken out of the box. Also, how are they magically activated when they are still sealed in their original boxes. Needless to say I will continue to fight this issue, but rest assured, if this issue is not resolved tomorrow morning, I will be seeking legal counsel to fight these charges, as I do not want Verizon's poor customer service to harm my credit score that I have worked so hard to build to what it is now.
    Where is the help Verizon, because as of now, it is non existent.

If the promotion was not available when you purchased, then you are not eligible for it. I recommend visiting the store with your receipts showing your $100 discount if you purchased after the promotion started.
