.str files

I have a Windows XPSP2 pc that is constantly causing login errors on a
server. The only physical sign that I can see that something is trying to
connect to the server are the massive amounts of .str files being created
by this workstation.
We are running 6.5.1 (i know I am behind, but ran into massive problems
when trying to upgrade zen that is another issue.)
I have other XP machines but none has caused this problem.
The amoung of .str files are causing numerous error messages on the server.
Thanks:
George

  • NMAS Keeping .STR files from getting to inventory server

    I'm in the testing phases of setting up inventory. My inventory server is up and running great. I installed the latest Zen 7 SP1 IR4 on 12 PC's in a lab to see how things would go. 6 of the 13 would not properly upload their STR files.
    The minimal inventory gets updated and is listed as "scanned" in the status. The log file on the workstation may say "027: Unable to read the sequence number" or in one case I got "063: Transfer .STR file from the Workstation to the Inventory Server failed."
    I've combed the forums for information and answers. It makes no sense at all why some workstations work and some don't. They all have the same NetWare client and ZEN versions.
    After remembering how I couldn't complete the install to the ZEN Inventory server unless I uninstalled the NMAS client on the install workstation. I thought...hmmmm. What if I uninstall the NMAS client on one of the workstations that can't import? Sure enough, right after I uninstalled the NMAS client and rebooted, that workstation started working!
    I went and checked on the client's that were working before and they all have NMAS installed as well. As far as I know we don't use NMAS for anything. The configurations looked the same to me.
    Why would removing the NMAS client fix this issue and why don't I have this issue for all of the PC's? Any ideas?

    Apparently because NMAS in general is failing on parts of your servers.
    NMAS is always used to login, as soon as it exist and is enabled on the
    client. It is pretty much random which server is used (if you have
    multiple), and obviously some of yours have a problem with NMAS. I
    suggest to ask in the mathing eDir or OS forums. It almost certainly has
    nothing to do with Zenworks.

  • Stuck .STR Files

    Occasionally, I'll find that several days of .str files are backing up in
    the \Scandir directory on different leaf servers. For some reason they are
    not getting copied to the \Scandir\EntMergeDir\. Sometimes, the
    utilization will go up on the server when this happens. If I stop the
    inventory service and delete the oldest .str file and restart the service,
    the remaining .str files will immediately start copying over. I'm assuming
    the last .str file may have been corrupt. Any idea why this keeps
    happening?

  • [CS3 JS]  Reading TXT file content into String

    Hello,
    I'm currently wanting to display a dialog box that has a dropdown menu containing all countries of the world.
    I have an external txt file that contains a list of all countries.
    I thought I would simply read-in the contents of the 'txt' file into a string and use it for displaying the list.
    For example
    i Instead of the usual:
    > var myLandMenu = dropdowns.add({stringList:["A", "B"...], selectedIndex:0});
    i I thought of doing something like:
    > var myLandList = ....? HELP ?....
    > var myLandMenu = dropdowns.add({stringList:myLandList, selectedIndex:0});
    Is this the way to do it?
    What would be the way to read in the text file content as a string?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lee

    > var myLandList = ....? HELP ?....
    > var myLandMenu = dropdowns.add({stringList:myLandList, selectedIndex:0});
    It's hard to tell from context, but myLandList needs to be an array of strings.
    If the file has one element per line, this would be one way of handling the
    conversion:
    var file = File("~/countries.txt");
    file.open("r");
    var str = file.read();
    file.close();
    var myLandList = str.split(/[\r\n]+/);
    And assuming that this is ScriptUI and not the older ID UI, the menu creation
    would look more like:
    var myLandMenu = dropdowns.add(bounds, myLandList);
    myLandMenu.items[0].selected = true;
    -X

  • Log files

    Hi all,
    I seem to have a problem in that the inventory is always empty but the
    workstations are importing.
    What log files do I need to have a look for any errors.
    I've been searching the Novell website for answers and have tried their
    solutions without any sucess.
    I know I have missed something but I don't know what so I need to find some
    log file errors to pinpoint the problem.
    Thanks in advance

    When a station is imported and then scanned for inventory, the data is
    exported to an .str file and placed in the scandir directory of zen server.
    That data is then transferred to the dbdir subdirectory so it can update
    the database. For some reason, your .str files aren't being built in the
    scandir directory (go check). Some log files you may want to view are
    located in \\server\sys\ZENworks\Inv\server\WmInv\logs\zenwor ksinvservice

    The STR files are only briefly stored in this location until they are
    processed by the database.
    They are then deleted.

  • Matching ".avi" and ".srt" files into a single clip of ".mov" file

    I think "iSkysoft iMedia Converter" is the right converter to get .mov files from .avi files. (Any other suggestions will be appreciated)
    My problem is something else:
    I have "subtitles file" in .str format corresponding with the "movie file" in .avi format.
    However, the subtitles (.str) file can be matched with the movie (.avi) file only while you are watching it.
    Question : Is it possible to get a single (.mov) clip with the subtitles "sticked" on the moving image?
    Thanks.

    "iSkysoft iMedia Converter"
    Never heard of it.
    For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
    Neither iMovie nor iDVD can handle subtitles. For that you need to move up to Final Cut Express and iDVD Pro.

    Multithreaded File Copy takes more time 1.5 times than single thread.
    Is there any issue with this code. Please help me.

    If all of your threads are doing CPU-intensive work, or all are doing I/O to the same interface (for example, writing to the same physical disk), then multithreading would not be expected to help you.
    Multithreading does not magically make your CPU able to do more work per unit time than it could otherwise.
    Multithreading does not magically make your network interface or disk controller able to pump more bytes through than it could otherwise.
    Where multithreading helps (some or all of this has already been mentioned):
    * When you have multiple, independent CPU-bound tasks AND multiple CPUs available on which to execute them.
    * When you have tasks that involve a mix of CPU-bound and I/O-bound work. The CPU-bound stuff can crank while the I/O-bound stuff waits for bytes to be written or read, thus making use of what would otherwise be CPU "dead time."
    What you're doing does not fit either of those scenarios. Copying a file is pure I/O. If the source and destination file are on the same phsyical disk or controller, adding threads only adds overhead with no real possibility to do more work per unit time.
    If your source and destination are on different disks or controllers, then it's possible that you could get some benefit from multithreading. While one thread is waiting for bytes to be written to the target disk, the other thread can be reading from the source disk.

    System.out.println("Can not the driver");
    try
    String str="insert into user.doc_table values(?)";
    pstat = conn.prepareStatement(str);
    File fileIn = new File("C:/ragu.doc");
    int fileLength = (int) fileIn.length();
    InputStream streamedFile = new FileInputStream(fileIn);
    pstat.setBinaryStream(1, streamedFile, fileLength);
    int i = pstat.executeUpdate();
    if(i!=0)
    System.out.println("doc has been inserted");
    else
    System.out.println("doc is not inserted");

    You need to post this in IBM-Jdbc forum and not in Oracle-Jdbc forum.

  • Stupid mistake about replacing folders and losing files.

    I spent hours working on a project yesterday and saved them all in a folder on my desktop.
    Today I continued working on the project at a different computer, saved them to my flash drive, and then copied them back onto my computer.
    Here's the issue... the folder in my flash drive had the same name as the file on my desktop, but didn't have the same files as on the desktop (I had about 6 photoshop files on my desktop that aren't on my flash drive). In the process of copying the folder from my flash drive to the desktop, I replaced the folder... realizing about .4 seconds later what I was doing.
    So my question is... is there any way to recover these old files? Or since the folder was overwritten, am I screwed?

    If you stopped working after you deleted the files - in other words, didn't create and save new ones - you may be able to retrieve the documents.
    Check here for software:

    Hope this helps!

  • Stuck .stf files

    Occasionally, I'll find that several days of .str files are backing up in
    the \Scandir directory on a leaf server. For some reason they are not
    getting copied to the \Scandir\EntMergeDir\. Sometimes, the utilization
    will go up on the server when this happens. If I stop the inventory
    service and delete the oldest .str file and restart the service, the
    remaining .str files will immediately start copying over. I'm assuming the
    last .str file may have been corrupt. Any idea why this keeps happening?
