Strange Display Errors with certain Applications (ATI X1600) [SOLVED]

Hi everyone!
I have been using Arch now for a year or so and am very happy with it, but now there is a problem I unfortunately can't solve by my own.
Since a month or so certain applications (like emacs, feh or gimp, if i try to manipulate the drawing surface) cause very strange display errors. When I try to take a screenshot, they can't be seen, so i made to photographs
Image 1 (one instance of emacs under awesome-wm): http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/5186 … 112158.jpg
Image 2 (two instances of emacs under awesome-wm): http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/822/im … 112158.jpg
I already tried another display manager (musca) but there the same applications cause the same type of error.
Maybe the version 6.14.0-1 of xf86-video-ati broke my system, but I don't know.
Has anyone had similar problems or probably a solution?
Thanks in advance
Maak
P.S.: I hope this is the right forum for this topic.

  • Displaying error messages from application log

    Hi,
I am using the function module RV_DELIVERY_CREATE for creating delivery in my program. If the sy-subrc is not zero i.e if delivery is not created, i have to display error messages collected inside the application. How can i do this ?
The object nd subobject are existing in SLG0 but when i
tried to see the object and subobject in SLG1 transaction , no logs were found.
Do we need to activate the object and sunobject somewhere before logging can take place??
I am using the following code in my program to display the logs but it is displaying no logs found:

    Hi Vartika,
you need to save that log after creating and appending to it.
here is a code to save that log.
If log created, save to database
      if e_bal_hndl is not initial.
        refresh: bal_hndl.
        append e_bal_hndl to bal_hndl.
        call function 'BAL_DB_SAVE'
          exporting
            i_client         = sy-mandt
           i_in_update_task = 'X'
            i_t_log_handle   = bal_hndl
          importing
            e_new_lognumbers = log_no
          exceptions
            log_not_found    = 1
            save_not_allowed = 2
            numbering_error  = 3
            others           = 4.
u have to write this code after appending info to Log.
    hope this will help.

  • Screen corruption with certain applications

My ArchLinux install has been fine for ages, so I think my ATI card is configured correctly. However, a few days ago I noticed that when I open certain applications (mainly Picasa via Wine and OpenOffice file dialogs), my entire screen becomes corrupted.
It looks like the screen gets divided into 4 or 5 horizontal areas and when I move the mouse pointer or windows, they appear to scroll across these areas in a staggered manner.
I do recall installing Google Chrome (not Chromium) from AUR and I believe it installed a different version of "libjpeg" and "libpng" from source, so maybe this has something to do with it.
Also, when using Nautlius, I get a serious X panic (sometimes kernel panic) saying that "Nautilus is tainted".
I've tried removing these "libjpeg" and "libpng" libraries and have even reinstalled X, Gnome etc. using pacman, however, the problem still occurs.
I can recover by dropping to a virtual console and then restarting X with "/etc/rc.d/gdm restart", but obviously this isn't sustainable.
What do you recommend? If I can't find a solution, I might reinstall the box but will probably go back to Debian.
    Thanks in advance!

This appears to be exactly my problem. I will try the suggested fix when I get home from work this evening.
Thanks for the speedy response. Yet another reason to love Arch Linux and its community!
    Cheers!

  • Netflix display error with Safari 8/OSX 10.10 Yosemite

I am having an issue with playing Netflix content through Safari since upgrading to Yosemite. Specifically, Netflix will start to play the content and then display an error after a few seconds. The error reads "Whoops, something went wrong... display error. There appears to be a display problem. Please ensure your monitor is HDCP compliant and is not mirror using airplay."
My monitor is HDCP compliant (HP ZR30W) and it's the only monitor connected to my 2014 MacPro. I presume this is an issue with the latest version of Safari and all the next extensions Apple added to support Netflix streaming without the Silverlight plugin.
Anyone have a solution for this or seen the same problem? The new Safari is crazy-fast and I'd prefer to use it with Netflix. Hate bailing to Chrome.

I just got it to work, and I think I may know why, just in case it helps anyone.
    My setup:
Mac Mini (late 2012), with two monitors connected:
One dell HDMI monitor, hdcp compliant, plugged into the Mac Mini HDMI port.
One dell monitor plugged into thunderbolt via thunderbolt-VGA adaptor.
Unplugging the second monitor from the thunderbolt-VGA adaptor fixed the issue, and now Netflix plays with the HTML5 setting turned on!  So it would appear that the second monitor was the problem.  Which would track with what this page says:
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
The page states that a Thunderbolt-DVI connector should work.  Luckily this monitor has both, so the next thing I will try is to buy a Thunderbolt-DVI adaptor and retest with both monitors attached (I don't have one at the moment).  If that works, I'll post the results, maybe next week.
This kind of stinks because I've always been  two-monitor dude, I like having a movie playing on one monitor while I work on the other for example.  For now, until I get the adaptor, I'll switch netflix back to using silverlight, which seems to still work with both monitors attached.

  • Viewing HD online video at 1080P with graphic card ATI x1600

I seem to notice that when I am viewing videos in HD at 1080 the video tends to get choppy but then it start to work again normally, mean while when I go to my new macbook alum it works perfectly fine there is this because ATI x1600 doesn´t support 1080 HD trailer movies at that res, which it ***** because back then it use to work fine at 1080 is this a leopard driver issues or is it that the card is not powerful enough to handle that res, even though I have 256 of ram just as the same as the nvidia 9400m which has shared 256 of ram.

this is the link where my ATI X1600 graphics card with iMac intel duo core 2.0 gigahertz with 2 gigs of ram and my graphics is 256 of vram
has problem viewing smoothly the HD 1080P trailers, but it doesn´t have any problems viewing with the new macbook with the nvidia 9400m graphic cards is this probably because of an encoding issue or codec issues with these HD trailers.

  • My Macbook with 10.6.8 is having trouble with certain applications- Word will not open, and text edit or pdf will not print.

My Macbook (13 inch 2008) running OS 10.6.8 is having trouble with some applications.  Word will not even open.  I cannot print from text edit or Preview or Adobe.  Excel sometimes opens but very slow.  What could be wrong?  I have repaired permissions, used an antivirus program, deleted some old MS fonts, and still no change.  I have 1 G RAM and there seems to be plenty available and I have 50 G of hard drive space empty.

Well, first 1gb of Ram is not plenty. It's the absolute bare minimum just to run OS X 10.6.8. The MS Office applications are ram hogs also. I would recommend three things.
    1. Get more ram.
    2. Reinstall and update your MS Office applications.
    3. Reinstall Snow Leopard.
If you're not familiar with Activity Monitor you might have a look at this link and you'll be able to judge your ram situation a little better.

  • It's all green with xf86-video-ati. [Solved]

Firstly, I am running an updated install of Arch with KDE. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 4800
After following the directions on the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI), my entire screen is shaded dark green. I can see things through it, bit it makes changes difficult.
Before the problem, I enabled early start KMS as per the directions, this did not seem to affect anything after a restart or two.
I moved on to generating a xorg.conf file using HWD and configuring it to use xf86-video-ati. Upon running hwd -x, I found it odd that it only generated a xorg.conf.mesa file, but assumed that I could make the changes that I wanted myself. I made a copy of the generated configuration file and named it xorg.conf and began editing. At this point in time, my computer was green screen free. The default generated config file worked fine using mesa, but I wanted to utilize my GPU. I found the "Devices" section and commented out:
    Driver      "vesa"
    and added
    Driver      "radeon"
This is where my problems began. Upon rebooting, I was presented with a green KDM. Logging in or switching consoles did nothing to save me from my newly made green Frankenstein computer. So, I renamed my xorg.conf file to xorg.conf.bak and rebooted. Everything was back to normal (no green, no xorg.conf). I checked my Xorg.0.log file, but couldn't make out any errors. I've included my xorg.conf file as well as my the last part of my log file to aid anyone brave enough to do battle with the green. It would be great if anyone could help me out with this, I think that I'm a bit in over my head. Also, I would use the proprietary catalyst drivers, but they don't yet support the newest version of xorg that I'm running. I've tested the catalyst drivers in other installs and the GPU works perfectly, so I'm positive that it isn't a hardware problem.
If there is any more information that I can provide, just let me know.

The proprietary driver doesn't yet support XOrg 7.5, so unless I want to rip out X and downgrade, that's out of the question. Hell, I don't even know where I'd get the source for 7.4 (latest supported) if I wanted it. MadTux suggests that ATI may be releasing the next version of the Catalyst soon, so maybe they'll support 7.5 with that. Maybe not. I don't have this problem using, say, ubuntu with the old XOrg.
The xf86-video-radeon gives me a black screen, so that's out, though I haven't tried either the xf86-video-radeon-git or the xf86-video-ati-git, I may just bust those out and see what it gets me.
Flamelab's suggestion seems plausable. Installing xf86-video-ati-git and using his xorg.conf sample; I'll try that out now and report back shortly.
    Edit:
Well that's interesting. Trying flamelab's suggestion does seem to work perfectly. No green, no black screen, just good stuff. Glxgears runs nicely (which I assume is OpenGL). My xorg.conf is as follows:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "My Graphics Card"
    Driver "radeon"
    Option "DRI" "on"
    Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
    Option "DMAForXv" "on"
    Option "RenderAccel" "on"
    EndSection
So that's something. Compositing still doesn't wish to work, but I think that I'm getting to where I want to be. Thanks for the tip, M177ER.
In order to see 3D with xf86-video-ati-git or you'll wait for linux kernel 2.6.32 (coming soon), or you can build the -git versions of mesa,libgl,ati-dri, kernel etc which can cause trouble if you don't know what to do. See here if you have time : http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=79509
As for the PKGBUILD: Xorg-server is a bit strict with full xorg.conf files lately. So creating a lite xorg.conf, can solve most problems.

  • Strange Gateway Error with one APP Server (WSAETIMEDOUT)

    Hello Everyone,
We are experiencing a strange gateway timeout issue on one application server in our SAP environment.  This started happening after we applied a series of Microsoft patches and updated the SAP kernals from 179 (DB 172) to 185 (DB 182).
From this App server we are seeing all kinds of gateway errors, the following is a sample from the dev_rd file from the server in question:

I have done alot of searching and I have tried the following things:
    1) Checked the services file of this machine, they line up with all other systems
    2) Attempted to telnet to other App servers on 3200, 3300, 3600 with no success
    3) tried to connect via SM59 to another App server with no success
    4) Attempted to do all of these things in reverse from the another app server with the same results.
This is only happening with one app server in our landscape and this app server has no issues connecting to the CI.
Any ideas on where I can look further?

    Hi,
on sappe1exp5  try the following command in a dos prompt:
    telnet sappe1exp4 sapgw00
this should also time out i.e. hang for a certain amount of time (~50 seconds) and then terminate with error.
It simply means that the IP address 10.10.0.21 is not reachable from your client PC.
Maybe you changed some IP addresses during patches. Usually there is an RFC destination that is not functioning properly.
    Best regards

  • SQL Server 2012 Management Studio Displays Error With "New Query" and Intellisense Works Intermittenly

I was upgrade to SQL Server 2012 and Visual Studio 2010 was upgraded with SP1 the same day.  This is x64 machine.
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio      11.0.2100.60
    Microsoft .NET Framework      4.0.30319.261
    Operating System      6.1.7601
Problem 1) With SQL Server Management Studio, selecting "New Query" a warning box is displayed: "The 'Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Configuration.Design.VisualStudioIntegration2010Package, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Configuration.Design.VisualStudioIntegration2010,
Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=netutral, PublicKeyToken=null' package did not load correctly.    The problem mayhave been cuased by a configuration change or by the installation of another extension.  You can get more information by running the
application together with the /log parameter on the command line, and then examining the file ...\AppDate\Roaming\Microsoft\AppEnv\10.0\ActivityLog.xml'.  Continue to show this error message?
Problem 2) In a Query Initellisense works intermittently but most of the time it will not display anything.  I have tried Edit|Intellisense|Refresh Cach size and also seperately, Edit | Intellisense | List Members but neither has helped.  Also
tried different selections for Tools|options| T-SQL | Intellisense| Maximum Script Size; no luck either.

    Hi WallyJim,
For your first problem, possible workaround:
In Programs and Features (or Add/Remove Programs), right click the Microsoft Enterprise Library 5.0 Optional Update 1 program and select change. Remove the VisualStudio2010 integration.
Then, install the EnterpriseLibrary Configuration extension from Microsoft via the Extension Manager in VS2010. This will allow you to launch the configuration editor from VS2010, but will not be installed for SSMS.
For more information, please refer to
    https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/620532/error-message-on-new-query-window-opening.
For your second problem, the following conditions might affect the behavior of IntelliSense:
There is a code error above the cursor.
The insertion point is inside a code comment.
The insertion point is inside a string literal.
The automatic options are turned off.
For more information, refer to Troubleshooting IntelliSense (SQL Server Management Studio):
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173434.aspx.
    Thanks,
    Maggie

  • Error with JSF application on SAP NetWeaver  App Server  7.3

    Hello Gurus,
I have a JSF web application which I have deployed on the SAP NetWeaver Server 7.3 , but when trying to access the same I get the error
Cannot process an HTTP request to servlet [Faces Servlet] in [SecurePro] web application. [EXCEPTION] javax.servlet.ServletException: com.sap.engine.services.servlets_jsp.server.jsp.exceptions.CompilingException: Error in executing the compilation process: [ Compilation Failed! Exit Code=1
Has anybody else also got the same error earlier?, I am using Mojarra  implementation for JSF.
I had earlier deployed the same application in an earlier JSF version and it worked on NWAS7.0 but Now I need to upgrade that, Please help
    Thanks
    Somil Agarwal

    Hi Ingo,
Yes - Ive tried every possible combination and here is my findings...
I don't think the 32-bit version of the SAP Java Connector (2.1.8) works on a Windows 2003 x64 SAP J2EE 7.0, i.e. the sapjco.jar file. I created a directory and added it to the CLASSPATH of the J2EE server (server and instance) and I also added it to the Java classpath using: java -jar <path+sapjco.jar> -classpath. Executing this command brings up a SAP Java connector window where it displays information of the version, location of the sapjcorfc.dll file etc. This windows opens, but is not able to display the information. If I do exactly the same with the x64 bit version of the SAP Java connector (2.1.8) it displays the information correctly in the SAP Java connector popup. I've tried copying the sapjcorfc.dll and the librfc32.dll to both the /system32 and the SYSWOW64 directory on the server.
HOWEVER, in CMC the Role Import tab still does not work - I just get the text null (in red). Before adding the sapjco.jar to the java classpath I got another error on the Role import tab - something like /com/sap/mw/jco/$JCOFunction. So it seems like it is now able to find the sapjco.jar file, but can not use it properly.
The big question is now: Should the sapjco.jar file actually be on the Application server or on the BOE Server? I know it says on the application server in all documentation, but that generally assumes Tomcat and all installed on one server.
BOE uses the sapjco.jar file to connect to the BW system to import the roles and that must be the BOE server doing that job and not the Application server???
Just my thoughts - maybe we can discuss this at Teched in Phoenix? :o)
    Best regards,
    Jacob

  • Strange SL behavior with other Applications

For the last couple of days I've been having problems with my SL install. The problem is that its hard to pinpoint where the problems are coming from.
Some of the 3rd party programs that I have installed all started having problems at the same time so I suspect that SL is the culprit. I have reinstalled all of them with no improvements:
    Microsoft Office:
Word and Powerpoint freeze when I try quitting them. I have to force quit them to close them completely.
    iStat Menu:
The memory and cpu usage menus do not display the top 5 processes using memory or CPU. All other functions in iStat Menu work fine. Strange!
    Dropbox:
Dropbox slows down the Finder (cover flow and general file browsing is slow and jerky) when I launch it. The Dropbox context menu does not work either and no Dropbox related icons are displayed in my dropbox folder. I posted in Dropbox's forum and they helped me some but I'm still not convinced
    http://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=18212&replies=12#post-114185
Google Video/Audio plugin for Firefox, Google Chrome:
I am unable to use video/audio conference in either browser. No video icon is displayed in my gmail chat window.
I understand that this is a long list of somewhat unrelated problems but all them occurred at about the same time which hints to me that there are some kind of system problems (maybe with permissions).
I have repaired my permissions successfully, deleted the system caches with Onyx, and completely deleted and reinstalled all of the programs that are having problems. I have also started SL in safe boot but that didn't help.
Please help me! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

This error message keeps on repeating. Any suggestions?
I fixed the iStat Menu problem! The ipfw was blocking port 5204 which iStat needs to use. This error message led me to this conclusion:
