Strange @OneToMany generated schema

Hi all,
I just deploy 2 Entities (User and Contact) that are aggregated using a non bijective OneToMany annotation
public class User implements serializable {
@OneToMany(cascade=CascadeType.PERSIST)
private List <Contact> contacts;
And no user field into Contact class (so I can easily serialize User including theirs contacts without circular reference in XML style)
The underlying mysql schema is really strange and is not functional at all, cause not null column reference problem occur when I try to create a new Contact.
I expect to have a contact table with a foreign key user_id field that could be null (a contact can exist without user), but the Toplink essential generate a contact table with an User_ID and a contacts_ID fields, and this fields cannot be null and act as primary key of this table ....
And so when creating a new Contact, a problem occur when inserting a null value for user_id (and contacts_id).
My environment :
IDE :
- Product Version: NetBeans IDE 6.0 (Build 200711261600)
- Java: 1.5.0_13; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 1.5.0_13-121
- Glasshfish v2ur1
- Oracle TopLink Essentials - 2.0.1 (Build b09d-fcs (12/06/2007))
I've created a complete Test suite project where I had reproduce this behaviour (excluding all my other stuff around to spot this point)
So my question is : how to generate a correct DB Schema and not this buggy one ? Is there something that I misunderstand ?
And last : how can I influence Toplink to make the correct thing ? I didn't find any annotation to fine grain schema strategy adjustments.
Any help will be welcome ;)
update information :
I try with postgresql 8.2 instead of mysql ... and I'got the same strange schema.
I try a new project from scratch and same thing ...
I deploy with Hibernate 3 instead of Toplink and this time generated schema is more usable (but not efficient as it could be using normal rdbms modeling rules)
So Toplink seem to be the accused in my problem.. I'll submit this problem to Oracle part and keep Hibernate running ;)

Hello,
It looks you have a unidirectional 1:M between User and Contact. Because you don't have a ManyToOne back pointer from Contact to User, the OneToMany is essentially the same as a ManyTomany in that it requires a relation table. So I believe what you are seeing is a User_Contact relation table that will have User_id and contact_id fields, but nothing else. I think you should be seeing 3 tables - 2 for the entities and 1 for the relation table, and cannot explain why you would have problems inserting new Contacts without more information, but I would suspect something else might be going wrong.
If you want Contact to have a foreign key to User, you will need to have a ManyToOne reference to user, then have the OneToMany specify it is mapped by the ManyToOne attribute.
@ManyToOne
private User user;
@OneToMany(mappedBy="user", cascade=CascadeType.PERSIST)
private List <Contact> contacts

  • Issues while generating Schema DAT files

    We are facing two type of issues when generating Schema ".dat" files from Informix Database on Solaris OS using the
    "IDS9_DSML_SCRIPT.sh " file.
    We are executing the command on SOLARIS pormpt as follows..
    "IDS9_DSML_SCRIPT.sh <DBName> <DB Server Name> ".
    The first issue is ,after the command is excuted ,while generating the ".dat" files the following error is occuring .This error is occuring for many tables
    19834: Error in unload due to invalid data : row number 1.
    Error in line 1
    Near character position 54
    Database closed.
    This happens randomly for some schemas .So we again shift the script to a different folder in Unix and execute it.
    Can we get the solution for avoiding this error.
    2. The second issue is as follows..
    When the ".dat" files are generated without any errors using the script ,these .dat files are provided to the OMWB tool to load the Source Model.
    The issue here is sometimes OMWB is not able to complete the process of creating the Source Model from the .dat files and gets stuck.
    Sometimes the tables are loaded ,but with wrong names.
    For example the Dat files is having the table name as s/ysmenus for the sysmenus table name.
    and when loaded to oracle the table is created with the name s_ysmenus.
    Based on the analysis and understanding this error is occuring due to the "Delimiter".
    For example this is the snippet from a .dat file generated from the IDS9_DSML_SCRIPT.sh script.The table name sysprocauthy is generated as s\ysprocauthy.
    In Oracle this table is created with the name s_ysprocauthy.

    Hello Rajesh,
    Thanks for your prompt reply. Please find my findings below:
    *) Have there been any changes in the extractor logic causing it to fail before the write out to file, since the last time you executed it successfully? - I am executing only the standard extractors out of the extractor kit so assumbly this shouldnt be a issue.
    *) Can this be an issue with changed authorizations? - I will check this today, bt again this does not seem to be possible as the same object for a different test project i created executed fine and a file was created.
    *) Has the export folder been locked or write protected at the OS level? Have the network settings (if its a virtual directory) changed? - Does not seem so because of the above reason.
    I will do some analysis today and revert back for your help.

  • How to generate schema from designer?

    I have the following problem - my application is intended as development tool, e.g. laike Oracle warehouse builder or so. So - the main part will be graphical designer, which imports the structure of existing database and then user can draw the structure of additional database schema (and maybe - the user can specify some mappings and/or relationships in some other way as well) and then - my application will generate schema based on these drawings (e.g. my application can generate SQL statements like create table and so on and then - execute them).
    My current plan is to use UML (or EMF, maybe together with database modelling profile if available) designer from Eclipse as the main part of application and then the SQL generation I can organize in code (where the UML drawing I can access as tree of code instances) ro even - if there is one available - I can define transformation from UML database profile to SQL code (in manner of MDA - model driven architecture, as advised by people from IBM Rational). I think - this should be pretty optimal use of already available free-source technologies... I have intention to use this for Oracle database only, so - I have no intention to make tool that can definitely work with any SQL-standard compliant database.
    I only wanted to check - what are your thoughs about this. Now I wonder - does Oracle offer some framework for building developer productivity tools as I described. It could be quite logical - because Oracle itself should have some kind of platform e.g. for building its Warehouse Builder and so on - why not open this platform for wider use? So - I wanted to just check - if there some alternative (more appropriate for Oracle) available instead of using Eclipse.

    Thanks for the schema generation task info.
    I found that OAS 10.1.3 is not Java EE 5 compliant (at least not yet), so it's only got JAXB 1.0. Hence my JDev library problem and the schema generation confusion were both from the same cause.
    Thanks.

  • Generated schema based on ABAP

    Hello,
    is there any tool for generating schema or picture based on ABAP like UML diagram, DFD, etc.?
    I have the business requirement to create a report in non-sap system with the same logic like already done custom report in abap
    Best regards
    Radek

    Please refer Auto generating UML diagrams from ABAP code
    I tried to use this technique on a program written using Procedural ABAP but did not find any success. One issue i faced was that I was on SAPGUI 730 and one of the gui components required was available only in SAPGUI 720.
    Hope you have better luck.

  • How to handle dynamically generated schemas

    Hello! Experts
    In my last query (subject-- JABX implementation Query)which posted in this forum i asked whether JAXB can be used in situation where schema of the xml files are generate dynamically.I came to know through the reply that JAXB can be used only for static generated schemas.Many Thanks for the reply.
    Can any one suggests how to deal with situations where schemas are generated dynamically?
    Many Regards
    Ved

    This question doesn't make sense. If your code doesn't know anything statically about the schema for an input xml document, the only thing you can do is treat it like a generic xml document using something like DOM, and explore it simply as a tree full of nodes.

    which clearly points to the fact that the XSD:SCHEMA element is enclosed in the Document Element. Removing the document tag completely and leaving XSD:SCHEMA as the root element works. But thats a lot of post processing to be doing and I was wondering if there was a way to generate XML Schemas and DTDs using the standalone representations.
    If there is no way to do that, could somebody help me fix the error generated by oracg with my DTD?

    Error: Schema Class Generator failed to generate classes. oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Whitespace required.
    which clearly points to the fact that the XSD:SCHEMA element is enclosed in the Document Element.

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to do Reverse Engineering( Table to Entity).
    I have schema called SCOTT and i want to register and generate SCOTT schema into REPS schema.
    I have a problem with register and Generate the schema SCOTT.
    I'm connecting as REPS.
    I'm writing the code like this...
    begin
    jr_registration.register('SCOTT');
    end;
    begin
    jr_registration.GENERATE('SCOTT');
    end;
    when i run this code, i'm getting lot of unwanted tables into REPS Schema.
    Does anybody Know, where i'm doing mistake.. ?
    Thanks in advance.

    I have given all the privilages, which are in the list.
    And it owns by SCOTT only...
    I'm connecting as a Repositiry OWNER...
    The Interesting part is, it doesn't show any errors..but i couldn't see any tables in the REPS_OWNER schema.
    I'm trying to generate from SCOTT SCHEMA ---> REPS_OWNER

  • Generated schema on a query returns xsd:string for date data type

    I'm a complete newbie to oracle's xml generation and have encountered the following problem. But first the important details:
    select * from v$version
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.2.0 - Prod
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.2.0 - Production
    "CORE     10.2.0.2.0     Production"
    TNS for Linux: Version 10.2.0.2.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.2.0 - Production
    We have a large number of dynamic queries that we would like to generate xml for. I'm currently using the dbms_query.getXML(context, 2) to generate the schema definition for the columns as well as the xml row data. Currently, the problem I have is that the schema definition for date columns is being returned as xsd:string rather than xsd:date. I've no idea why it is coming back that way, and haven't found anything to point me in the direction of any configuration data where this can be changed. Here is the table and code I'm using:
    query: select dbms_xmlquery.getxml('select * from clh_xml_test',2) from dual
    table definition:
    create table CLH_XML_TEST
    ID NUMBER not null,
    NAME VARCHAR2(50) not null,
    DATE_COL DATE,
    EMAIL_ADDRESS VARCHAR2(100) not null,

    use DBMS_XMLGEN.

  • Generating schema upgrade scripts

    On our project we're currently using Apache Torque Generator to create schema installation scripts for Oracle, MS SQL Server and DB2 with great success. However, making alterations to the schema and capturing these alterations in patch scripts is still a very manual process.
    Does anyone know of any open source tools that can help with this task? Either by automatically generating the patch scripts (based on comparison of two schemas), or by using some other means of upgrading (such as a java process that runs and makes changes programmatically). The scripts generated (or process run) would ideally be idempotent.
    Cheers,
    Joe

    Take a look at TOAD -quest software-.
    There is a Free edition abvailable where you can do a schema compare from which TOAD generates the SQL.
    I only use it for Oracle, never looked into using it for MySQL or DB2 so don't know about that.

    Hi,
    Are you using a temptable in your stored procedure? If so, FMTONLY flag is the cause for this error.
    Please check this post to correct this:

  • Does 3rd party Simulation test run generates schema or configuration errors

    Hi all,
    Does 3rd party pay simulation (USA) run generates any kind of schema or configuration error messages.
    In my case when I did the test (no update) run no errors were generated but when we did the same thing thru update log (evaluation run) we identified errors.
    From my understanding I was assuming that test run will also verify the configuration and generates any errors found.
    Could some one clear my doubt?
    Appreciate your input in advance.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    we are implementing new tax type 85 and we have existing tax type 01 and 10. IN ZPTX rule we have
             D   VWTCL 72
    1        Z   GCY ZTAU
    2        Z   GCY ZTAU
    do i have to write a new rule ZTAU for 85 or can i just update in the existing ZTAU my new tax type 85 :
    85                D UWTIFA
    Do we have to define new rule ZTAU (3   Z  GCY ZTAU)
    for each new tax type or can we just proceed withthe changes to the existing rule.
    Appreciate any kind of helpfull information.
    Thank you.

  • How to generate schema DDL from SQLD 1.5?

    There used to be "Tools -> Export DDL" to export DDLs for multiple objects of a schema.
    It is not seen in my SQLD 1.5 (Version 1.5.0.53).
    Has it got lost / navigation changed?
    - Jayant

    Got it.
    Thanks for the help.
    I have a suggestion though - Can the option to export data be made more prominant in the first screen along with DDL options, rather than it being hidden along with 20 other options in 3rd screen?

  • Generating schema from XML document.

    Hi,
    I was wondering if there is any way to generate an xsd from an xml document using some neat java api?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ted Kaminski

    Use JDK 1.4.

  • Generate schema-base XML from XML fragments

    I have a defined .xsd file and an incoming xml file that I am inspecting in a BEFORE INSERT trigger. I registered the xml schema to create a single column table of xmltype. The incoming xml consists of a root node and two data nodes. There are 3 elements on the first data node that need to have their value updated before the xml doc is inserted into the xmltype Oracle table.
    I was trying to find a way to use updateXML(), but that seems to work only for an existing row in the table. I then turned my attention to createXML(). I grabbed the root node and two data nodes and built 3 different clob's. One of the clob's contains an updated data node. Then I am doing the following:
    :new.sys_nc_rowinfo$ := createXML(clob1||clob2||clob3, registeredURL);
    registeredURL contains the URL that was registed in the schema. While it seems that the signature of the createXML() function is correct (I get no compile errors), the results are not valid per the schema. Is there a way in PL/SQL to do what I am trying to do? Seems like a pretty simple concept.

    Nikhil,
    There is a wealth of information available on the Internet regarding the XML capabilities of the Oracle database.
    Have you done an Internet search for "SQL XML Oracle"?
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

    I submitted a request to fix the thread and submitted a bug request.
