Failed to Open data files files

Dear Members,
Using Oracle 10gR2 on windows
When I start the Oracle server in clients place it fails to open the data files..
SQL> conn / as sysdba
<connected>
sql> select status from v$instance;
<mounted>
sql> alter database open;
error - ora-01157 (cannot identify lock/ data file 8 see DBWR trace file)
ora-01110 - data file 8 d:\Oracle10gr2\oradata\data01.dbf
Now this data01.dbf was created to test something..its of no use. So someone might have deleted the file..and
it has the reference in control file. There was no backup taken.
How to recover from this failure..??? Basically have to erase the reference from control file..

Verma,
How many datafiles you have on that tablespace. If you have more then 1 then you can drop this datafile from the database. "alter tablespace <tablespace_name> drop datafile '<datafile path>';

  • Creation of Recovery Disks - 'Failed to open the following file" Error

    Greetings All,
    I am in the process of trying to create a Recovery Disk Set for a Client's *Satellite L300 - PSLB8A-07U004*.
    While the application opens and begins the creation of the disk set, it has, three times now, failed at with the error message of *"Failed to open the following file. D:\!V5_01_07.VRP (Error Code: 020123-F1-00000000)".*
    I did attempt this process the first time while the all the client's data was still loaded.
    I have now done a 'Restore to 'Out of the box experience' because I thought one of those files might be the cause but, alas, the error was repeated.
    Obviously this is irritating (to say the least).
    I have NOT made any change to the layout or sizing of partitions.'
    Any thoughts?

    Thank you both for your responses.
    You were on the right track.
    I was attempting to use a 'dodgy' brand (SKY-Silver) of DVD-R for the creation of the disk set.
    On changing over to TDK disks, the problem did NOT repeat.
    Strangely enough, the dodgy ones worked great for creating copies of the set once it was completed.
    Again, thanks to you both.

  • 'failed to open the PDF file' error - Indesign CS3 on Mac

    Hi,
    Whenever I place PDFs that were created by any other app besides indesign or Illustrator I get a 'failed to open the PDF file' error, previously these PDFs were fine to place but all of a sudden they're not... Help?
    I'm not too keen on opening in Illustrator and resaving for the rest of the foreseeable future either...

    Thanks for the reminder, Scott.

  • Content generation error. Failed to open the InDesign file.

    Hey all -
    In importing an article to a folio, I just received this error:
    "Content generation error.
    Failed to open the InDesign file. Please confirm the file can be opened in InDesign."
    The file is open right now in InDesign. I can close it and reopen it with no errors.
    I've tried resaving the article to a new file. No help.
    I tried creating a new folio and importing the article there. No help.
    All links are good. It's a simple file with images, a scrolling pane, and some buttons that link to other articles.
    Anyone else run into this problem? Any solutions?
    Thanks!

    Im getting this error also....?
    Want to avoid inporting each artical on at a time. Need to import multiple articals at once.
    Thanks.

  • Failed to open the PDF file

    I have to place a large number of PDF files. Sometimes I get an error: "Failed to open the PDF file". In the InDesign Forum I found that this also happens in the GUI from time to time and that the workaround is to turn on the Show Import Options. But this is obviously not an option for me.
    Is there any alternative?
    Thank you, Ralf

    When you retry, is it always the same PDF?
    Otherwise I'd play around like
    - catch the error
    - perform some potential cleanup of resources (files, memory), e.g. SaveAs, or a Close-Reopen cycle
    - retry the same PDF

    You should be able to open any .java file in Wordpad or Notepad. JBuilder just makes the code look pretty.

    Regards,
    Arvind

    Hi,
    It just returns 0 which means failed to open file. And I am using Adobe Acrobat 8.1.3 on window XP.
    You can test this in the sample application named ActiveViewVC.
    So I want to know whether we can open password-protected file using the OpenInWindowEx method or not?.
    Please let me know your response

  • Failed to open an existing file

    I have a program which loads the configuration file - guard.conf, listens to a port, and accepts the connections. It runs perfect during the first day. But then it begins to have a problem: it fails to reload(open) the configuration file. The error message from syslog("%m") is like "guard.conf file or directory does not exist". But, I have checked, guard.conf is there, and access("guard.conf") in the program returns successfully.
    Because this program still can accept the connections, I doubt that the file descriptors have been used up.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi
    Sounds strange, but would have to have a look at the program before \
    I can comment any further. If you can forward me your email address then I can have a look at your program.

  • Failed to open a pdf file

    Hi
    I have worked all the afternoon on Indesign and I have saved the result on a pdf file.
    I have just installed Indesign at home (trial version), and I can't open this pdf file. I can just open readable files which are Indesign, INX, IDML, Pagemaker, quarkexpress, indesign book &  ADOBE PDF CREATION SETTINGS FILES
    Does someone know how to open a .pdf file with indesign. Maybe some mods to install?
    Thanks by advance

    There is a script for placing multi-page PDF, but you can also do it one page at a time. Select "show import options" in the place dialog and you will be able to specify the page.
    All that aside, you are placing a linked file this way. The content in the PDF will not be editable in InDesign. You would need to save the file as .indd to be able to open and edit it.

  • Mouse failing to open folders and files with double click.

    Mouse suddenly decided not to open anything with double click. It will highlight with single click but will not open files. Could I have a broken mouse? Could a virus be causing this? I have checked the mouse settings under System preferences and made sure my pc-using children have not set the mouse to second-click status. Any ideas?

    Check back in system preferences > mouse > Double-click speed.  Move the slider to the slower end of the scale.

  • Failed to open a .indd file

    Hi, everyone
    I have a problem with some .indd files, these files are on a NAS server. My problem that i can't some files with Indesign CS6. I have an error message that the file is used by another user, but there is no one except me using this file.
    Those file was created with indesign CS3. The weird thing, there is file that work and other doesn't work.
    SO if anyone can help to resolve this problem, it very urgent and important ?
    Thanks in advance
    Best regards

  • Error msg: failed to open date book database

    In trying to open my Palm 3.1.1.0 dinosaur desktop application, I received the above error message. I'm new to this help arrangement, but it looked to me like the old solution offered by the forum was no longer linked to the message. Help! I no longer use my handheld, and it's been a long time since I ran a paper backup. The date book is far less important than the address data base that I cannot open at this point. Am I in trouble, or is there a way around this? (I probably have the old installation software somewhere, but what if I don't?)
    Many thanks!
