Strange white rectangle on the desktop

Only just started doing this, but when Bridge is running, there's a white rectangle on the desktop, which goes away when Bridge (CS3) is quit. This happening to anyone else??

It definitely does matter. Like I mentioned earlier, when you have a fixed width of 1,000px for your content container, your 100% width setting for your outer container will be ignored - which means priority is given to 1,000px thereby rendering the whitespace to the right as your background is again a 128px square image. One solution I can think of is to make your background image 1x1px square that you can repeat. See if this makes any difference.'
My site, the autoscroller - I didn't use any plug-in as such. I simply used scrollTop from jQuery API and changed the settings to match . You can read about it here: http://api.jquery.com/scrollTop/
Here's my actual function that I'm calling when a menu button is pressed to scroll the div ID associated with it to scroll to Top of the screen. Again, this works for me, as my menu is fixed to the top, unlike your site where each site has a menu bar.
$('ul#menu li a').click(function(){
               var id = $(this).attr("href");
               $('html,body').animate({scrollTop: $("div"+id).offset().top},'slow');
     return false;
$('a#link').click(function(){
               var id = $(this).attr("href");
               $('html,body').animate({scrollTop: $("div"+id).offset().top},'slow');
     return false;

  • Strange white gap on the right when viewed on Iphone

    Hey guys
    When viewed on computer, my 100% width appears to be working fine. But when viewed on iphone (possibly would do same on ipad and ipod but i don't own those) there is a strange white gap on the right.Maybe about 10 px worth.
    I noticed in the "services" section, some of the writing was over hanging this white gap so i thought maybe i coded it wrongly and it was pushing the whole screen across. However i shrunk the width of that container now and its not overhanging, but the white gap is still there
    I would have a guess that it is a freaky padding or margin setting somewhere in my coding...

  • Strange white rectangles appear behind "menu commands"

    When I hover over the menu commands in Photoshop or Illustrator (both CS2), white rectangles appear behind the Menu Commands and so cluttering the otherwise nice GUI. As I experienced this before on another computer but still have no clue what is going wrong could someone give me a clue what's going on here? I am using Windows XP Service Pack 2.
    kind regards,

    can you show a screen shot? try http://www.pixentral.com upload the screen shot and copy the url in your address bar to a post here.
    from your description it SOUNDS like it might be a display driver issue, but it's hard to tell. a screen shot might help someone nail it.
    might as well try updating your video driver to see if there's anything newer out there than what you're currently running.

  • Is using 4 white rectangles really the best way to crop something in Ai?

    I'm sure someone here has used this technique before.
    (And in InDesign as well)...
    You are drawing a new image and there is extra color or
    drawn detail that extends past the border(s)... but because Ai does not
    have a "crop" tool for the document "canvas" or the vector frames themselves, you draw four opaque white (same color as the document white) rectangles and move them onto each side of the image (up to it's border).
    Then, you fuse or flatten those four rectangles somehow.
    My questions are:
    1) If this the proper technique, is Pathfinder the right tool?
    2) If it is not the proper technique for cropping, what is? Is there a way similar to how Ps crops? It seems that the crop tool in Ai is geared towards the printing process only.

    I find that using a clipping mask for a drawing (making a mask on the top layer then masking everything) moves everything to the top layer, which is not useful for art that may get edited further later. Clipping just the objects that extend past the border, on its layer (Kurt and Ray) is something I hadn't thought of; it would preserve most of your art on the desired layers.
    I tend to use white boxes on the edges of my maps if the art doesn't extend too far beyond the borders. But clipping masks do make a neater graphic (the 0,0 of the art pops up right at the edge of the InDesign/Quark picture box, which designers appreciate). FreeHand generally remembers layers for objects once you unmask them, so I mask more in FreeHand than AI.
    On a related point - when I bring in old FreeHand art to Illustrator CS4, type on paths gets positioned badly. Usually the handles on the baseline just get shifted so one word disappears, but recently I've been finding the left and right handles are stacked right on top of each other. It's necessary (once I get the handles to APPEAR) to select the TOP of the handle to shift the pair of handles to the right, then I can grab at the BOTTOM of the pair of handles to slide the left-hand handle so the type appears and I can position it.
    The problem I run into is that certain of these steps require the white cursor, and certain steps require the black cursor, and there's no way to use the black cursor on a MASKED drawing without selecting all of it (whereas in FreeHand you can switch cursors on a subselected object in a group or mask, and edit its handles, move the type along the baseline, etc). So several times the only way to grab the offending type is to unmask the art, adjust the text, then re-mask. I may be doing something wrong, however it's quite possible it's just another Adobeism I'm going to have to work around.

  • Anyone ever find an answer to generic white icons on the desktop?

    Hiya,
    I only just updated my system from 10.4.2 - 10.4.5, and have discovered the problem as described in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=222509&start=0&tstart=0
    There is no definitive answer on the thread and I can't reply as it's archived. I'd love to know if someone has come up with a solution and explanation, as the white icons are a bit annoying, and more importantly, I want to know if it's a sign of anything being wrong with my system.
    Thanks alot,
    Charity

    Did this start for you after updating your version of Mac OS X? Mine started after going from 10.4.2-10.4.5. I think that judging from other people's posts, it's the 10.4.3 update that does it. It's happened to quite a few other people, but not enough for there to have been a proper answer found unfortunately.
    I'm just living with it for now. FYI, you can also get rid of the white icon by labelling the items as a colour (and naming them back again if you want), or by getting info on the item and clicking on it's icon in the top left corner and pressing the delete key... but the colour label thing would be easier for doing it for many documents at once. Mine also fix themselves after a reboot. Mind you, as this is a weird blip, it might not be the same on your computer.
    I'll get back to you if I find what's wrong, but I've looked into it quite a bit and can't yet figure it out yet. I may try a few suggestions on another thread. If you work it out, could you let me know too?

  • "Sharpen" effect produces white rectangle around the frame?

    I've been noticing this behaviour in CC 7.1.
    When you place "Sharpen" and some third party plugin (Sapphire, NewBlue, BorisFX, ...) the 1 pixel wide rectangle starts to appear around the frame.
    Is it a bug?

    Remove 3rd party effect from clip, see how that works.
    Or try nesting first then apply sharpen.

  • White rectangle on screen

    Just showed up today. Near teh middle of the screen an odd small rectangle in on teh screen, regardless of what window is open it is always on top and has a small black shadow on screen. whats the deal?

    Hello Tempelaffe,
    It sounds like you get this whit rectangle in the screen shot out of nowhere, but it goes away when you restart the computer. I would start by performing a Safe Boot, and then resetting your PRAM in that order. Due to the nature of the issue, try it out for a while to see how it goes.
    OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
    Starting up in Safe Mode
    To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), follow these steps.
    Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
    Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key.
    The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
    Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
    After the logo appears, you should see a progress bar during startup. This indicates that your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.
    To leave Safe Mode, restart your computer without holding any keys during startup.
    And:
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    Shut down your Mac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
    After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information.

  • White rectangle appears on exported Gif Rollover

    Hi, I'm on FW CS3 and DW CS3 (Using Intel iMac). I'm
    exporting a simple Gif rectangular rollover from FW into
    Dreamweaver. While I'm not a web expert, I've done plenty of
    rollover navigation graphics in Fireworks. The browser preview of
    the rollover looks good in FW, but when I export it to Dreamweaver,
    it technically works but I get a white rectangle at the bottom of
    the graphic when I rollover with the mouse - a white triangle which
    I do not want to be there.
    I've tried various differences in positioning my slice in FW
    and I've tried Dreamweaver Html and switching to Generic Html in
    case that made any difference. Neither change helped.
    At the risk of cyber-embarrassment, I've published my graphic
    (It's a rollover to start an email) to this url:
    Frank Bright Contact
    Page
    I appreciate any help on solving this; it could be something
    basic which I've overlooked.
    Many Thanks, Frank B.

    Well, this is a bit awkward. I had a Private Message from
    Frank asking for a clarification, but when I reply I get an error.
    So, Frank, if you're reading...
    HI!
    What I've done is this:
    Take your Fireworks image, where you have the rounded
    rectangle vector object (and text and whatever else on your
    background color) and export (Image>Preview, not Save) that to a
    PNG 24, but save it with a different file name or in a different
    folder.
    Hmm...I've JUST realized there's a slightly easier way!
    Okay...open this flattened image. Go to Modify>Canvas>Canvas
    Color and set that to transparent.
    Select the magic wand selection tool. In the Properties
    palette, set the tolerance to 0. Click in one of the corners, then
    press your Delete key. That portion of your image will become
    transparent. Do the same for the other corners.
    Now export to GIF format and make sure to select Alpha
    Transparency so that your corners come out, well, transparent.
    If this doesn't work for you, bump your thread:

  • White rectangle when composing email

    Sometimes, when the iPhone is in landscape mode, the mail app shows a white rectangle to the right of the screen. It looks like the space that would be occupied by the virtual keyboard if the phone was in portrait orientation. Text typed into the message is entered correctly, but not seen because it is clipped by this white rectangle.
    This has been hard to reproduce, so I was wondering if anyone else experienced this.
    Thanks for any replies,
    ++aldo

    I eventually got Rich Text Editor to work; however it loaded VERY slowly-like almost one minute to load.
    I stopped using Roadrunner mail in general because of a number of other issues that made it very cumbersome to use. I went to Yahoo mail and have not had any issues.

  • White rectangle in nav bar

    I believe this question was answered some time ago, but it didn't pertain to me at the time. On two pages (page 4 and 5) of my web site for grandmacs.org, there is a white rectangle in the nav bar - it is not clickable when I try to remove it. I have even deleted the page and started over with a new page and it still shows up!
    Has anyone else had this happen to them? Suggestions and solutions, please.

    What you see is part of the background because the links area moves down when you add more pages.
    From a design perspective you have too many links at the top of the page. It looks ugly.
    Perhaps you can add Sites and link to them from your main page.
    It not technical, but organisational.
    Or use another template that does not suffer from this anomaly.

  • Strange white boxes behind text.  Help!

    I am in the middle of working on a very important document.  In one section, an autobiographical section, I added sidbars.  The background of text box is grey.  Everything looked great, including when I printed last.  Today when I was working on the document, I noticed that the headings (in the text box sidebars) have white behind the text.  I tried troubleshooting:
    I thought maybe there was a font trouble?  tried changing fonts.
    I thought maybe it was text box fill problem? changed colors of font and text box fill...  No go.
    Please ignore the terrible black boxes.  I chose to black-out any personal data.  The problem is the strange white boxes behind the headings (in the sidebar).  Any ideas?

    bump! help requested please

    Hi,
    Try a new post asking for a site check or a site critique -
    you'll no
    doubt get differing advice about best practises on the
    construction -
    take what you get objectively, most will be constructive,
    don't be
    disheartened and don;t forget it's your client who is the
    person you
    most have to please.
    I think it looks great and for a first site - quite
    incredible really -
    you seem to have a fairly good grasp on what's going on with
    the code
    and (you may get crit for using absolute positioning) you
    also seem to
    have a grasp on relative and absolute positioning.
    One wee thing I see (sorry don't have time to trouble shoot
    for you) is
    a slight layout difference between IE and FF - possibly a
    double margin
    bug - a bigger gap between the centre and the right columns!
    Oh - and you might want to consolidate your css - shift the
    embedded
    styles to your linked sheet.
