Stream Netflix to TV issue

I used the Apple composite AV cable to play my iTunes movies from iPad 2 to my TV; it worked just fine. But now I can't get the video to show up when I try to watch Netflix videos. I only hear the audio and the video just plays on the iPad rather than the TV. Any solutions?

I am having *the exact same issue* with the first movie I rented late last night. My Apple TV 2 is set up and working fine with my iTunes library and wifi network in every respect except this one. The money has been taken from my account and I have no way of watching the movie as every time I push to watch it it says "Your Apple TV is not authorized to play this content"! How can this be given that my itunes account details have been entered on the system and allowed me to 'successfully' rent and be charged for the movie in the first place? 20 hours and counting before the money has been wasted, although I have requested a refund through the problem reporting tool on my account!!
I too have gone through the forums and tried everything with no luck. I even contacted apple care support who kept me online for 30min, resetting and restoring etc... only to tell me that it might be an issue my TV!! Nonsense, otherwise surely it wouldn't work at all.
I hope someone from Apple is monitoring this thread and that a proper solution will be given in due course. At the moment, I don't want to risk renting any more movies until I know that my machine will be authorized for the purchases I have made.

I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).
On the Iphone and Apple TV I can connect to Netflix . . . it recognizes me and my account settings . . . and I can veiw all my recent programs and show titles, descriptions, etc..  But when I select one to watch I get a message saying:
"ERROR A PROBLEM OCCURED WHILE PLAYING THIS ITEM. TRY AGAIN LATER, OR SELECT A DIFFERENT ITEM. GO TO WWW.NETFLIX.COM/SUPPORT FOR MORE INFORMATION. (139)
Netflix support say there is nothing wrong on their end . . . that it is an Apple issue.  They see the request for the show, the devices are registered . . . but it shows 0 bandwidth to the device.
My Apple TV did this when I first hooked it up a couple of weeks ago.  Then after a few days started working with Netflix, for no apparent change . . . now doesn't again for the past couple of days (I think that it auto restarted the other night after a virus scan).
Very frustrating, and driving me nuts!  Has anyone else had and been able to resolve this problem?

    Troubleshooting
Apple TV2 update one day and netflix is browsing but not launching the actual content (error 139)
Ipad2 (another ios device) forces me to update netflix if I want to use it and I get the same error 139 on it.
**** now I have two not ways not working where prior to some update it was fine.
Nintendo Wii is still working ( mind you running an ancient version of netflix )  Dusted the Wii off and gave it to the kids use.  Now they are happy again...
PC is also still working ( using some other flash client ) but that's just of interest, we're not going to be watching tv with that.
My wife's iphone 4s is still working.  Odd.. still ios but for somereason I am not forced to update the version. So basically she could mirror stream up to the apple tv with it.  Nice feature of Ios5.  Later found out it is using 1.4 version of netflix.  The most useful thing out of that is that all 3 of the devices are Ios and it was actually the iphone with the 1.4 version of netflix that still worked!
I heard from a friend who was on a different ISP he was still working so I took my appletv2 and ipad2 over to my brothers house who is on that same ISP as my friend and both started working.  So the ISP is involved too!
Brought the appletv2 and ipad2 back to my house hoping it would maybe still work.  No dice   Broken again.
Searched the appstore for a decent packet analyzer and there isn't really anything.  I was able to sniff the traffic with my PC and also on my juniper ssg5 confirmed that.  Turns out port 80 traffic is actually failing and authorization is not happening.  The other clients do not do this...
Asked a buddy from work who used to work at the ISP if he could make a call to some one who might actually know what is going on.  He came back pretty quick and said yea they are trying really hard to get the beta patch in from Bluecoat asap.
So knowing that it was actually Netflix that changed when it hit 2.0 and in my case the ISP made the adjustment it's pretty safe to say this issue is going to be ongoing unless netflix changes again the way they authorize for licenses.
So that's the summary of what went right down the troubleshooting path but I'll tell what what didn't
2 calls to Netflix (useless... waste of time... they are too quick to blame anyone but themselves)
1 call to apple support (support call was going to cost more than it cost for me to change ISPs)
2 calls to ISP (through the normal means - regular support number)
So why is this intermittantly working sometimes?  If you are lucky enough to authorize to an IP address that is not cached they voila you are going to get an authorization / a license to watch the show.  Some people report after defribulating their appletv (reseting, rebooting, dns changes, you name it) they get it working.  Over the past month we all seem to have got it working for some period of time only to lose it a day to two later.
It's now been several days since the beta patch to the bluecoat and 4 of us who have been communicating on the issue appear to be online all at the same time for those several days and that is a good sign that we might be out of the woods on the issue.
Hope this turns into something helpful for someone else out there.

  • Can I stream Netflix from iPad to iTV?

is there a reason iPad won't stream Netflix to iTV?  I heard you can send it via hardwire from an iPad.

Hey .. no blasting intended (sorry if my post came across as harsh).
I was just trying to shed some light upon a legitimate reason as to why someone would want to "AirPlay" (streaming or not as I explained) NetFlix through to AppleTV.
As it stands, if I want to accomplish the above, I have to basically set up the movie from scratch (save the "find the spot where I am in the film" of course, as there is the "resume" feature of course).
Being able to walk in your front door (or walk down from a bedroom/kitchen) and BLIP NetFlix right onto the screen with a simple touch of an icon would be quite nice.
But then again, I guess manually turning the AppleTV on, clicking over to NetFlix, going to "recently watched", clicking the movie, then clicking "Resume" .. isn't THAT big of a deal. But still.
    Know what I mean?
But again, in no way was I meaning to offend. People like you are the back-bone of support forums! So kudos to you ten folds!
Still hoping to edit a favorites list and the history though! Mind boggeling why this hasn't been implemented yet. From what I gather, you have to cancel your subscription and re-subscribe to clean your history. Ludicrous! And even then, it erases ALL your history, not just the films you happened to look into and happened to skip. Now my history is littered with random movies that technically are NOT movies I've watched. In effect, my history is actually a useless feature due to this (for the most part). Ahh frustrations with seemingly simple technology.
Just venting really. It's another issue altogether, yeah?
    Cheers!

  • Ipad Streaming Netflix via HDMI Cable Again

My Ipad quit streaming Netflix to our TV through an HDMI cable in early October, right after iOS 7 and the Netflix software update came out.  Netflix issued version 5.02 in late October, and siad that fixed the problem.  But that still did not help.  Now  Applle has issued iOS 7.0.4 to fix some bugs.  They did not indicate that this was one of the bugs.  But we can now stream to the TV over the HDMI cable again.

No.  The Videos app should work fine.

My cord that connects my Ipad to my TV does not appear to work with the new upgrade.  I get a message that says the video does not work with the device.  I used to be able to stream netflix.  Can I fix this, or was this capability taken away?

  • I can't stream netflix with an extra apple display ...

    ...on a MBP11,3 i7 late 2013 with Yosemite.
I just switched from 10.9 to 10.10 and my apple display 2006 isn't supported anymore for streaming Netflix, probably due to some HDCP issues.
Netflix only works with the display unhooked, yesterday (10.9) it all worked fine ...
Sorry Apple, I don't like this.
How can we solve this issue?
    Tx

    Already found a solution.
Apparently it is the HTML5/DHCP in Yosemite which causes the problem.
In Netflix preferences I unchecked HTML5, so it plays now on Silverlight.
That did the trick, I can use both my MBP screen and the Apple display again while streaming Netflix.
    Easy fix.

  • Streaming Netflix app on an older iPod Touch?

    Hi all you iPod gurus,
I've got an iPod Touch 2g running iOS 4.2.1.  I've been running the Netflix streaming app without major issues for a couple of years (version 1.4.0, build 930547).  In the last couple of weeks, it has just quit working.  I open the app and it goes to a gray screen after a few seconds.  I've deleted the app and restored it from a backup version, I've restored the entire iPod.  No change.  Any suggestions?  Has anyone had a similar issue?
Some additional information:  I tried the same version of the Netflix app on my son's newer iPod Touch with the same result.  Then I updated the app on that iPod to the latest version and that newer version worked fine.  This leads me to believe that the problem could be an issue between the older version of the app and the Netflix servers.  But updating the app is not an option for me; the newest Netflix app requires iOS 5, which my iPod does not support.  I'm a little bit frustrated, and I'm wondering if it's just my iPod or a more general issue.
Any help would be appreciated.  Even a simple, "I've got an iPod Touch 2g and my Netflix app runs fine" would be helpful.  Thanks much.
    Steve

    Devground,
I have a second gen ipod touch with ios 4.2.1 and am able to watch netflix (version 2.2.1, 9/21/12, 8.3 MB) on it as of today, December 1, 2012. I don't know if it's stable, but it's running right now. I recently had difficulties with the app when I tried to upgrade to the version that requires ios 5. Though I hadn't used it in a while, so I don't know if it was the attempted upgrade that caused my trouble.
I also don't know what ultimately fixed my problem and don't recall exact symptoms as it took a while to troubleshoot (slow os on this hardware) and attempted many things. However, I made sure that if I even had the new Netflix app that it did not overwrite the 2.2.1 version in itunes. I backed up 2.2.1 just in case.
Then, I deleted the old version from the ipod and reloaded it through itunes. It took a couple of times of doing this, disconnecting and power cycling the ipod before i was able to successfully login again.
Not sure what even did it in the end. After doing all the uncertain steps above and all but giving up, I read lllaass's comment on another post that suggested syncing, which I did after the uncertain steps above, and it finally worked. Unfortunately, I can't really answer specific questions on the method I used, but I'm sure that other 2nd gen users can confirm that they are also still able to use Netflix on their touch.
I hope this makes some sense - sorry it's so vague on details.
Good luck. And thanks lllaass, I guess!

  • When instant streaming Netflix on my Macbook Pro, the sound is very very low even when sound controls are set at highest level.

When instant streaming Netflix on my Macbook Pro, the sound is very very low even when sound controls are set at highest level.  I do not have this problem when listening to TV or watching movies streamed from DishNetwork.  I contacted Netflix and they had me install a newer version of their software Silverlight... this did nothing to resolve the issue.  They were not familiar with the issue.

Well if your on 10.6.2, you need to software update to 10.6.8
Perhaps you need to adjust the Silverlight (Microsoft DRM video plug-in) sound level itself too
Run a check here to see if your current on your Silverlight (works for all browsers)
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
Use another browser like Firefox and see if it continues.
Try another video file. They all have their own sound levels too.

  • Cannot stream Netflix on TV with airport at the same time.

I have called every 800 number with an Indian accent available. I have called Comcast, Samsung, and my local Apple dealer. They all say i need to call each other's support network. No help. They just read from a computer a response that I have by now memorized. I'm about to send my new Samsung 2500 back to Amazon.
Here's the deal: I have a Comcast modem for internet and phone. I have a Netgear router. I have a Samsung Blu-ray 2500 DVD player that streams NetFlix and I have Airport Express. After hours of fidgeting, I have finally figured out that I can either stream NetFlix or get internet for my MacBook but not both. Period. So, I can run my Airport wireless or my Netflix on TV but not both. I am somewhat techno impaired but in some of the discussions someone mentioned that you cannot have two IP addresses for one cable OR you cannot have one IP address and run NetFlix and surf the web on your laptop. The second seems absurd. In the very fine print, Samsung says that some IP's will not let you stream NetFlix. Does anyone know if that is true with Comcast? Comcast themselves didn't know (honest! - at least not the boiler plate email I got back said they didn't). It honestly starts to get funny when I go through all the set up online with my Samsung and then they give me a password to start streaming movies. BUT, to do this, I must disconnect my Samsung to get online with my laptop to plug in the password. By the time I do that, the password time has expired! LOL!! Besides, I don't even think it would work by the time I switched back to "live" NetFlix. So, I have all this stuff and I still can't watch a movie on TV.

I guess that there is 2 possibilities that I can think of.
One is that you are using a single IP address and only one device is getting it at any given time. However with a router I would not think that this is the issue. But just to be sure... I am assuming that the Netgear router's WAN/Internet port is connected to the Comcast modem. The Netgear router should be configured with it's DHCP services enabled. I am assuming that the AirPort Express (AX) is connected via Ethernet to one of the Netgear router's LAN ports. The AX should be configured to act as a bridge (not sharing a single IP address).
The other possibility is that the bandwidth is getting entirely consumed by the Samsung Blu-ray and the MacBook has no opportunity to get any data.

  • Airport Express won't stream Netflix through Playstation 3

My PS3 can pick up the wireless internet signal from the router perfectly, I can play online games with no problem. If I plug the ethernet cord directly into the PS3, Netflix works flawlessly, so I'm sure its the router. It's an airport express with the latest firmware, I've got a printer plugged into the USB port for wireless printing, and an audio cord in for using AirPlay. Any ideas?

Would it have something to do with Airport stations not supporting UPnP?
Possibly. UPnP, like Apple's NAT-PMP, allows an application to "automatically" open ports in the NAT firewall. For best throughput for Netflix streaming, you would want the following ports open:
    TCP: 80, 443, 5223, 10070-10080
    UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658, 10070
Also, I was looking at some info on my router and it has an error, something to do with "Double NAT". I'm not really sure what that means, but would it be preventing my PS3 from streaming Netflix?
A "Double NAT" means that you have two routers in series that both have NAT enabled. I believe that your Motorola 4G modem is actually a combination modem & router. That means that your AX should be reconfigured as a bridge so that the Motorola can provide both NAT & DHCP services for your network. In this case either the Motorola would need to be enabled for UPnP or configure it for port mapping. However, I have a feeling that once you reconfigure the AX as a bridge, your Netflix streaming issue will be resolved.

  • Weird static/high frequency sounds while streaming Netflix.

I am experiencing weird static/high frequency sounds while streaming Netflix. At first I thought it was my headphones until I pulled them out, then thought it was the iPad itself. I am now watching on my tv (apple tv) and it's doing the same thing. So far no issues on my Mac. Any ideas?

You're using the two pin connector to the wall socket, if yes, use the three pin.

  • ATV2 problems streaming Netflix movies

Lately (even after February software update), hard-wired ATV2 starts/stops/starts every minute or so of first 15-30 minutes of streaming Netflix movies. Unable to stream at all during night of February 13. HELP!

I just purchesed an Apple TV unit about 3 weeks ago. about 12 days in, went to watch something on netflix and was informed that it could not access Netflix. I could look at my instant queue and search for films. When I would choose a film or TV show to watch it stated that it was unable to access Netflix at this time. I contacted Netflix and they said it was an Apple issue, I contacted Apple and they walked me through changing some settings (DNS) which didn't work so we restored those settings. They then had me unplug the apple TV from the wall outlet for one minute. After plugging it back in, everything worked fine. Now in the past 4 days I've had the same issue twice, and resolved the issue by unplugging the Apple TV. I hope that I don't have to keep doing this in the future.

  • How can I stream Netflix on Apple TV

How can I stream Netflix to Apple TV? On Apple TV Internet setting shows you tube but not Netflix.

You'll need to make sure you have the new black small AppleTV and not the original one.
If you do have the new one, you can make sure to do any of the software updates from the settings menu (I think.. I don't have one to reference).
It appears under the Internet tab and is very clearly on the list.
