Streaming App-V App to VMware Linked Clone VDI Pool via SCCM 2012 SP1

I have a few different App-V 5.0 applications that will work when deployed to a regular Windows 7 PC but when deployed to a VMware Linked Clone VDI I get a failure.
The primary error message appears to be: Windows Error: 0x11A - The mounted file system does not support extended attributes
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hello,
See these topics;

I would assume that the file-system you are attempting to place the app is not supported. The above articles could give you a hint on what to verify why that is the case.

  • App-V 5.0 SP2 user applications published via SCCM 2012 to VDI workstations with roaming only

    Hi,
The environment consists of App-V 5.0 SP2 (KB2956985) user based applications published via SCCM 2012 to Windows 7 VDI snapshotted workstations that are reset at user logoff.
When a user logs on the SCCM 2012 client initiates App-V client package publishing.  After a couple of minutes after logon the shortcuts appear and the user can launch their applications.
The issue is that at logoff, even with roaming enabled, the publishing information disappears.  This causes the next logon process for that user to repeat, the applications are not available until the SCCM client has completed it's publishing cycle.
Roaming profiles are implemented. %APPDATA% is redirected to a UNC path.  The following registry key is set
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\PreserveUserIntegrationsOnLogin=1
U-EV, global publishing of applications, and AppLocker rules are not an option.  Also, I have read this already - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn659478.aspx#BKMK_PE
I do not want to wait for the SCCM client to kick in prior to the user applications being available.  What do I need to roam or run to create a seamless transition for the user between sessions?
    Eddie.

Hi Tywin (bad username considering the last GoT Episode ;))
If you ask Microsoft, they always recommend using SCCM for deploying App-V packages and reuse your current SCCM infrastructure if that is already in place. Problem is, as you now experience, is that there is some big caveats both in regards to publishing
time and to roaming of settings.
As Nické states I would suggest looking into the Full Infrastructure Model for App-V 5.x, which gives you much better performance in what I call "from no apps" to "being able to click the shortcut" - the add and publishing phase. If you don't have the time/budget/whatever
to start looking into that, you could look into some community tools like App-V Scheduler which is developed specific by Citrix guys to ease the publishing and management in a Citrix world.
Microsoft have a great article about Performance Guidelines, which you have read, but it mostly presumes you work with Full Infrastructure. Have you looked into Steve Thomas' session from TechEd NA? It talks about "implementation trends".

  • Declaring an SCCM 2012 SP1 server as the "Publishing Server" for App-V 5 SP2

    Good morning everyone.
I'm trying to virtualize Adobe Flash 10.3 for IE.  That's beside the point but I wanted to mention my ultimate goal.
Sparing you all the App-V stuff I have to go through there's one obstacle that is hindering me at this point.
I've converted completely to CM 2012 SP1 for my App-V deployment functions but find myself needing to specify our main CM server as the "AppVPublishingServer".  The ultimate goal here is to set the virtual app attribute of "IsPublishedGlobally"
to TRUE.  I need to refer to the Publishing Server's URL in order to use the PoSH command "Set-AppVpublishingserver" to manipulate the "Global" parameters.
Do any of you know how to configure this attrib through CM, or, how to declare the CM server as a Publishing Server (in App-V's eyes)?
    Thanks very much.
    IAmStrings

    Hello,
If using SCCM and the App-V 5 integration, you can never configure a publishing server.
    Read this whitepaper for the full-story;

It contains step-by-step instructions on howto use the integration.

  • App-V 5 Virtual Environments in SCCM 2012 SP1

I am attempting to use SCCM 2012 SP1 to Deploy App-V v5 Applications.  So far deploying applications to user groups (like I did with 4.6) seem to work well.  The only issue that I am having is deploying Virtual Environments (the new way of
"dynamic sequencing).  My problem is that on the client side, the App Connection Groups are not being populated.  What can I do to fix this?  The applications are deployed to a user group collection and not a machine collection.  From
what I have found this is possible but it is not working for me.  Anything to help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

  • Linking InTune to SCCM 2012 SP1

Hi, I have a question around what is required to link InTune and to our local SCCM 2012 SP1 server.
Is it required to sync our Active Directory objects?  What we are hoping to achieve is to simply install the InTune client on our Windows 7/Windows 8 laptops and tablets, then manage updates, antivirus, remote control and inventory data.
We don't need the ability to have users self enroll devices, we will be installing the client in the IT department.  We also do not need to provide the ability to users to log in to install applications from a portal.  We just want to manage the
    devices.
We just want to be able to bring data from the InTune system into our local SCCM database if possible as it ties into our inventory system.
That being said, I've verified our domain in InTune.  Do I need to sync Active Directory or can I omit this and set up the InTune subscription in SCCM?
    Thanks,
    Travis

    The official answer is
    YES.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj884158.aspx#bkmk_preq
The device apps prompt the user to log in.  If their account isn't present within Azure AD (and therefore InTune), users will not be able to log in.  In reality, i suspect some stuff would work, but with cloud services especially, i'd stick to
    the official support guidance.

  • Lenonvo T440 with Intel SSD SC2BF240A4L - failing to install apps via SCCM 2012 task sequence

    Hi there
Wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue with a T440 with Intel SSD hard disk.
Our firm purchased two Lenovo T440 laptops. One has a magnetic hard disk, the other a SSD hard disk. Here are the models:
    SSD hard disk:           Intel SSDSC2BF240A4L
    Magnetic hard disk:   500Gb 7200rpm HTS725050A7E635
We deploy our Windows 7 build via a SCCM 2012 task sequence.
Building the T440 with the magnetic hard disk was trouble free. I built it repeatedly, and encountered no errors; our core applications installed successfully every time and the task sequence completed successfully every time.
    All well and good.
Building the T440 with the Intel SSD hard disk has been frustrating. When I run the task sequence on this machine, 8 times out of 10 the task sequence will fail, either stopping abruplty at installing Oracle Single-Sign On or Appsense agents. When the task sequence fails it is ALWAYS at one of these two apps.
Frustratingly, sometimes the task sequence will complete successfully on this T440.
Given we successfully deploy this task sequence to a variety of different hardware from different vendors, including other Lenovo laptops, I can only guess the Intel SSD hard disk is the culprit.
Has anyone encountred anything like this? I've went through the smsts.log file and other SCCM log files and can find nothing obvious. That this ONLY happens on the T440 with the SSD suggests to me the issues lies in that direction.
I'll swap disks in either T440 to see if the other T440 fails also with the SSD aboard, to see what happens.
Meantime if anyone has any information about this issue I'd be grateful if you coud share.
    Thanks
    CT

Does the install provide any logging? Does execmgr.log show any other info?
Per the readme, it should be setup.exe.

  • App-v OSD's not getting imported to SCCM 2012

    Hi
Currently i am migrating APP-V 4.6 PACKAGES to SCCM 2012, as part of this process few OSD's of applications are not getting imported.
ex:- if application has 10 OSD then only 5 OSD are getting imported.
Since App-v 4.6 was earlier standalone all the OSD were published to different user using different AD groups,
Do the package has to be edited again to import all OSD or manifest files has to be changed to include all OSD to get imported to SCCM 2012.
    Thanks

Open up the app in the sequencer, add the file to your scripts folder. If the script requires to be run elevated, you'll want to use the Deployment config file and use Global publishing....
If you don't need elevation you can use the User Config and won't need to publish globally.

  • App-V 5.0 Streaming over SCCM 2012 SP1 - High Availability / Load Balancig

    Hello Anybody,
the default App-V 5.0 Streaming (SharedContentStoreMode = on) Deployment over SCCM belongs to a HTTP-Streaming over http:\\SCCM-Server\... . The whole content flows from SCCM to the App-V-Client. Is it possible to create there a high availability solution?
Yes, we can set a second distribution point. But in th App-V-Client are always only one Distribution Source.
Is it possible to set there an clustered adress of an other IIS? Is it possible to change the publishing Distribution Source with an SMB-Path to File-Cluster? Is there a trick with Source-Root-Parameter in App-V-Client? Or are ther anything else to create
    a high availibility App-V-Streaming-Solution?
Yes, with App-V-Management-Server there is a high availability solution. - But we have only SCCM-Infrastruktur for App-V-Distribution.
    Thank you, best regards
    Daniel

    Daniel, do you found solution?

  • App gets runtime error 429 when deploying via SCCM

I have an application I'm trying to deploy and it works fine when manually running the app (silently) on my test machine. When deploying it from SCCM and then trying to run the program you get a message saying "Run time error 429 - activex component
    can't create object".
I can silently run the exe for the app from a command prompt. I can also do the same if I use the programs MSI file instead.
If I use the exe, msi or batch from SCCM it fails. I've tried deploying when a user is logged in or logged off.
One of the frustrating issues is I have been able to make it work on some systems, but not all. It fails more often than not. I'm wondering if it has something to do with a windows update (maybe .net framework) that isn't the same on each system.
I have already checked logs and haven't been able to find anything.
    Any ideas?

What the command-line does is up to the command-line and really has nothing to with ConfigMgr. You'll have to check with the vendor about what's going on. Error code 429 is not a standard Windows error code. You could add logging to your command-line to
maybe get more details about what it cannot successfully do (how to do that is specific to your command-line and also has nothing to do with ConfigMgr).
The only idiosyncrasy with running something in ConfigMgr is that it uses the local System account. This can have implications if the installer is expecting to add things to a normal user profile (which is generally  bad thing for installers to do but
they sometimes do it anyway). You can simulate this by using psexec with the -I and -is parameters. Given that this is an ActiveX control, which I think may be user specific, this could the source of the issue.
Another thing possibly at play is that IE is open. Since the installer is running as local System, it doesn't know this and tries to install the ActiveX control but can't because there are instances of IE open.
There's really no way to know what's failing here with additional information about what the command-line is actually doing and failing to do.

  • How to clone Notification Subscription in SCSM 2012 Sp1

    Hi Team,
Do we have any method to clone/duplicate subscriptions in Service manager 2012.
    Thanks
    Dinesh
    Thanks & Regards, Dinesh

    Necromancy is generally frowned upon.
A notification is just a special form of a workflow, and is stored entirely in the MP XML. If you wanted to make an exact duplicate of a notification, you could create the notification in a new MP, export that MP, edit the XML to change all the identifiers,
and re-insert it into the MP so you had two copies of it. A notification consists of 4 or 5 XML Elements that refer to eachother, and those identifiers would need to be unique, and then new display strings would need to be created to support those
    new identifiers.
That being said, you would spend far longer fixing up the IDs then it would take to recreate the notification rules through the UI. On top of that, it wouldn't do you any good to have two notifications with the same rules, targets, and template, because
that would just send the same notice twice, you'd still have to edit the target, rules or template to do what you wanted to do, and the easiest way to do that is to go back into the UI to edit the rules.
So, yes, there is a way to copy a notification, but you're going to spend far more time fixing the copy and making it do what you want afterwards then you would creating a new notification using the UI.

  • Streaming App-V Applications from SCCM

    Hello,
I´m evaluating using App-V instead of standard application packages. I´ve created two App-V 5.0 packages with the App-V Sequencer. Deployed them as an application in SCCM (Microsoft
Application Virtualization 5), It was pretty straight forward.
I´ve also installed App-V client 5.0 and all Prerequisites. Also installed App-V Client Ul.
I install the packages from Software Center and they stream down accordingly to the Client Ul.
I used the following PowerShell command to set Publishing Server: Get-AppvPublishingServer and added the SCCM server as following, http : // SCCMServername.domainn.com:443. It worked and
right away the applications started to stream.
Ps. Remove spaces in URL. (New account and it has to be verified before I can insert links)
The problem is that I can´t find anyway to run the applications? Is it possible to do like this or do I need an App-V server?
I´m new to App-V and do this as my thesis.
    Kind regards Jesper

    Hi Jesper,
You don't need an App-V Server when you deploy Applications via SCCM. Also you don't need to set an AppvPublishingServer when you stream.
    More details here:
    http://virtualvibes.co.uk/configuration-manager-2012-sp1-and-app-v-5-0-integration-more-than-meets-the-eye/
Maybe there is something wrong with your App-V Packages? Did you already try to test them without SCCM e.g. publish them yourself?
    The procedure is documented here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/21058.using-the-app-v-5-0-client-without-the-app-v-management-back-end.aspx
    best regards, Philip

  • App-V apps intermittantly fail to install via SCCM

    Hi,
I have a few sequenced apps deployed using SCCM to our work computers.  These apps are deployed to User collections.  When a new computer is brought online they intermittently fail to install, however if you manually 'retry' the installation in
Software Center, after the 4th or 5th attempt of retrying they install successfully.  Some apps fail to automatically install far more than others with one app failing to install consistently.
When the apps fail to install the streaming-transport debug log shows errors for Auto-Proxy detection and failure to send or receive HTTP responses to the distribution point full path to the .appv package file.  Send failures return an HResult of 0x80190193.
Receive failures return an HResult of 0x80190193 or 0x80072f0c.
The AppEnforce.log file returns an HResult of 80190193 and "The provided URL could not be resolved.  Please check that the URL is valid."  I assumed this to be the FQDN part of the command line that points at the DP package location.
The bit that puzzles me the most is that if it was a problem with the DP then surely none of the apps would install, and certainly a persisting with a manual 'retry' wouldn't produce a successful install result.
We use a proxy server.  AutoDetect proxy settings in IE is disabled and the FQDN of the Site Server/Distribution Point has been added to the Intranet Zone in IE.  If I tell IE not to use a proxy at all I still get the same errors (including the
auto proxy detection error) in the Streaming-transport debug log for the apps that have failed to install.
The App-V 5 deployment types are all configured to stream rather than download and run.  If I switch them to 'download and run' they all consistently install without errors.
App-V clients are configured to use 'shared cache mode' and 'package scripts' is enabled.
Our environment is as follows: SCCM 2012 SP1 running on Server 2012.  App-V 5 SP1 clients installed on Windows 7 Enterprise with SP1.
Any ideas as to what is going on would be welcomed as I've been tearing my hair out with this for a week!

    Hey Tim,
Since we're targeting  vmware view machines in floating pools with roaming profiles we can't really go live with download and execute as the users will stab away at the dead shortcuts and raise calls with service desk until their apps finish downloading.
Going to try and resolve the intermittent Add-AppvClientPackage

  • SCCM 2012 R2: automatic uninstall App-V 5 packages

    Hi,
We are using App-V 5.0 SP3 for computers (in test phase) as well as Terminal Servers (in production, App-V 4.6 and 5.0 on the same W2K8R2 servers). We were thinking about using a App-V management server since SCCM integrated App-V has downsides, most important
one is no automatic uninstall. Then there is this comparison which shows that integrating in SCCM has much more options:
    http://virtualvibes.co.uk/app-v-management-server-or-configuration-manager-2012-a-feature-comparison
So we're back at going for "SCCM App-V integrated" and the issue that uninstall doesn't happen automatically. Also there is this post which tells us "With App-V 5.0 SP2, App-V packages that are being used cannot be uninstalled."
    http://henkhoogendoorn.blogspot.be/2013/07/configmgr-2012-sp1-with-app-v-50.html
So I'm still looking for the best approach to:
*deploy App-V 5.0 packages to terminal servers via SCCM 2012 (user targetted): an uninstall won't happen for one user if another user has it in use? Then how can we enforce an uninstall/remove an application nicely?
*deploy App-V 5.0 packages to W7 computers via SCCM 2012 (first phase, later we will deploy to users on the computers): deploy an App-V package to  certain collection with computers, deploy an uninstall to "all computers" so that if
computerobject isn't member of the collection, it will uninstall? Won't every user then receive loads of uninstalls triggered (even not visible in the console)?
Sound all quite messy for me.
    Please advise.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

    >So the answer to your first question, yes, the installation will happen even though there's another user
My question was "an UNinstall won't happen for one user if another user has it in use? Then how can we enforce an uninstall/remove an application nicely?"
What I meant: an uninstall should remove the App-v package for all users (uninstalling for 1 user is not the goal) but it won't as long it 's in use. That means we need to force a removal somehow.
    >For the second one, I'd skip the first phase
That's no option, so my question stays
"deploy an App-V package to  certain collection with computers, deploy an uninstall to "all computers" so that if computerobject isn't member of the collection, it will uninstall? Won't every user/computer then receive loads of uninstalls
triggered (even not visible in the console)?"
    Jan Hoedt
If you want to remove the application from all users, just add all users to the collection and deploy the application as uninstall, it will be removed from every single user when the policies are applied.
For the second question, create a collection that has all the computers that you want to have the application installed and deploy the installation of the application to that collection. Then create another collection that has all the computers as member,
BUT exclude the collection you created for installation. Now all the computers that don't belong to the install collection, will have uninstall deployed against them.

  • SCCM 2012 - App deploy - Configuring a dependency in an app which is also configured for supersedence.

    Hi there
I am replacing an app with a newer version via SCCM 2012.
So lets call the existing app App1 and the new app App2.
I have an application created which has App1 configured to be superseded (uninstall) and App2 to be installed as a msi deployment type.
The issue I have ran into is that the install/upgrade fails if App1 is currently opened and running. The uninstall only works if App1 is not opened.
Anyone had to deal with something like this before without reverting to a script deployment type which runs taskkill commands and then a msiexec /x command? Is there a more sophisticated way to do this using the new application model?
The sequence would need to be:
    1) App1 if running on the target machine is killed
    2) App1 is uninstalled
    3) App2 is installed
Anyone put anything like that together?
    Regards
    John

    Thank you for replying.
Yes the key is indeed the uninstallation command and behaviour on App1; as my question makes clear I am aware of that.
I am hoping someone has come up with a clever way of achieving such a requirement, or I will simply have to use a script, which seems a bit unsophisticated given the range of options available in the application model.
    Regards
    John

  • App-v management server or SCCM 2012 integration?

    Hi,
We are using App-V 5.0 integrated within SCCM 2012 for a while now but aren't happy with it.
Hope was that in some update of sccm 2012 it would improve but it does not. That's why the idea arises to use the Ap-V management server again.
Below a comparison of the two options, I was wondering what your opinion on this matter is.
    App-V via SCCM 2012:
    Pro:
    Full integration with SCCM 2012
    Contra:
Dependency on SCCM 2012 client (when SCCM client doens’t work, App-V doesn’t work either)
Slow responstimes before package arrives at user (SCCM needs to scan AD groups, SCCM client needs a policy refresh)
    App-V Management server:
    Pro:
Deploy is also possible to computers as from App-V 5.0 management server
    http://virtualvibes.co.uk/enabling-computer-based-targeting-in-app-v-5-0/
“the fact that we can now target machines instead of users when publishing packages”
    Fast respsonsetime: deploy & uninstall
Automatic uninstall when user/computer isn’t member of AD group anymore
    Contra:
    Extra server needed
Note: the migration from SCCM to the App-V Management server should be transparent, right? Unpublish existing packages via SCCM, publish via management server
    Please advise.

How many data centres and sites are these RDS servers and desktops deployed across?
If you read Rory's blog post, you'll get a sense of what the App-V Full Infrastructure's down sides are across multiple sites/DCs.
