Streaming Video in Remote Panel
Desired Functionality: Our laboratory uses LabVIEW 2011 to make science instrumentation such as digital microscopes, spectrometers, etc., available to college students to do remote laboratory assignments. We need to be able to choose a live video stream from a number of cameras and display it on a VI front panel that is being served up by the LabVIEW web server. We also need allow the users to pan/tilt or zoom the camera using the VI. The purpose of this video stream is to allow remote users of the VI to see what is going on in the laboratory in real time. The video must have low latency and be reasonably high resolution so there is no lag in viewing what is happening as the users control instruments and equipment in the laboratory.
Current Solution: We use a DataVideo SE-800 video switcher to take in the feeds from up to 4 Sony EVI-D70 cameras. The switcher can be controlled through LabVIEW in order to allow selection of one of the video feeds. The selected video is sent to a MOXA V-Port 461 streaming appliance. When the VI is loaded in a browser by a user, a piece of code placed in the html file uses JAVA to layer the video stream from the MOXA over top of the front panel. A cartoon showing this physical connectivity is attached as “Current Connectivity.pdf” The limitations of this are that JAVA introduces some additional complexity and also is a potential security risk.
Desired Solution: We would like to display the live video feed directly in the Remote Panel, without having to layer it with an external application. The use of the video switcher and video streamer are not requirements, although it is nice to pull the video from an IP address and it gives us more control over the quality and frame rate of the video stream using the MOXA. Also, the Sony camera model we are currently using is not a requirement – any pan/tilt/zoom controllable camera will do just as well, but must be high resolution, as these cameras are. So, if there was a way to connect 1 to 4 cameras directly to the LabVIEW server and select a video feed from any one of them to display in the front panel of the VI, that would be fine.

Hi danbranan,
Have you attempted to write any code in LabVIEW for this yet? I've included a couple of links below that might help. One is a forum thread talking about how to stream video in a remote panel. The second is an overview of Remote Panels. Using Remote Panel may not be fast enough to get the quality that you want due to throughput limitations of Remote Panels.

Is it possible to display streaming video on a front panel?
I've created a motion-control software interface for a laser-processing station. It would be helpful if, when calibrating the origin of the stages, streaming video could be shown on the front panel from a camera on the setup. Can LabVIEW support this?
what is the format of the streaming video, you can use an activeX control like media player to do this most likely.

When ever I am trying to view streaming video from websites, such as CNN or ESPN or You Tube, I now see the same video stacked twice in the panel where it used to only show by itself. I think it happened after the last updates to Firefox and Flash Player, but not sure what was changed to create that effect?
== URL of affected sites ==
http://First of all, Firefox support SUCKS! I am looking onto Opera or Chrome.
Here is my solution. I have WinXP 64 bit with a Nvidia card. I had the same issue and all I had to do is update the video drivers and it fixed the problem. Try this out. -
Can I stream video from my mac to apple tv the same way my ipad or ipod does?
I just got my AppleTV hoping to stream video to it from my iMac. I'm seeing this is possible with mirroring, but there was a ton of lag between the computer and tv, and the sound and video would skip horribly. I plugged the ATV into our ethernet and that has helped tremendously, but there is still some visual lag and skipping going on with the video, noticable enough to drive me crazy when watching something like a movie.
However, I noticed that when I stream the same video to ATV with my iPad, it uses a method other than mirroring; the video is greyed out on the iPad with the ATV symbol on it and sends the video to the tv instead, and it plays seamlessly! I wish I could say this is the solution to my own problem, but most videos I wish to watch are in a flash format, which does not work on iPad and I would therefore need to use my iMac instead.
So, leading back to the title now, is it possible to stream a video on the iMac without using mirroring, such as how ever it is the iPad and iPod are able to do it?
My iMac is the newest model currently out I believe. 27", i7 intel processor. The AppleTV is also the newest generation I believe. I just got both barely two weeks ago from the store here.
Any help is appreciated, let me know if you need any more information.
Thanks!I've set everything else up but cannot figure out how to display my laptop screen onto my TV.
As Keithjammer indicates, the TV2 does not "mirror" your screen as the platform's video interface does. Instead, the TV2 device is a wired/wireless remote multimedia player. As such, it only plays files in a compatible compression format. To do what you want it to do would require your platform to first compress the screen audio/video data to a compatible format and then stream it to the device in real time.
I've set everything else up but cannot figure out how to display my laptop screen onto my TV.
Yes, only files can be streamed. You can, of course, capture your screen audio and video data to a compatible file and then stream the file to the TV2 device.
...except from both London Drugs (where I purchased it) and Best Buy (where I double checked).

in Adobe Connect.
THE PROBLEM
============
If you currently use Presenter then you already know that it
has some serious limitations when it comes to using video. Slide
based video must be in SWF format encoded using the old Sorenson
codec. That means your video files must completely load before they
start playing. This leads to long wait times for users; want to
play a 5 minute video? Expect a 2-3 wait time while the movie
loads. Forget longer content like training videos.
The video's dimensions are also limited as quality degrades
quickly at large sizes.
Adobe will tell you to put streaming flash video in the
presenter panel but this area is tiny and still uses the old codec.
You cannot pause, rewind and fast-forward the content and what
about if your show runs without the presenter panel showing?
If you update your presentation frequently, expect long wait
times as the video files are embedded and must be uploaded to the
server each time you make a change.
THE SOLUTION
=============
RefinedVideo is a complete solution to these issues as it
allows you to play high-quality video in fullscreen resolution with
no waiting. Use streaming FLV format using On2 VP6 compression to
provide higher quality at lower bandwidth with almost no wait times
in most cases.

All the Best,
TerryAhh, if only that were entirely true!
While you're correct that you can embed flash in your
Presenter files, it's still not possible to use the latest On2 VP6
codecs which is what you need to do if you want high quality large
size video files. Using the Sorenson codec which is what would be
required by your suggestion, means that the video tends to be quite
pixillated and limited to a small frame size, otherwise you end up
with lots of buffering delays.
Our solution allows you to run fullscreen video of unlimited
length from within Presenter and it works in self-paced
presentations and meeting room environments too.
On the issue of posting information about a product on a
Forum, my understanding of the concept of a forum is that it's a
place for the exchange of ideas and solutions. This forum is
located under the menu item of "Communities" on the Adobe site and
many people come here looking for ways to solve problems and
exchange ideas.
I've had numerous people contact me saying they have been
looking for exactly this type of solution but have been unable to
find it. It's only spam to you because you have no need for the
solution but to those looking for a way to deliver specific types
of training content, it's exactly what they came to the Forum to
find.
It's not my intent to offend, only to raise awareness.
Thanks for listening,

File Dialog's using Remote Panels (via web server)
I am aware that the web server remote panel access will not allow us to open a file dialog box on a remote computer. I have read people comment that you should create your own file dialog box, using LabVIEW to use instead of the file dialog box.
Has anyone actually done this? I would like know if anybody has source code for this, rather than re-inventing the wheel. Also, will the sub-vi actually just appear on the webserver? i.e. will it actually work?
Thanks for any help
SladeHi Emilie,
I have a program that I run on an industrial PC, with no keyboard, video or mouse. We currently control the application using the web server. We have a button to load and a button to save settings. If the files are missing for the load & save, it pops up a file open dialog to choose the file to import. However, while we are viewing the page this way, these dialog boxes do not work.
I would like to know if anyone has made up a file dialog box that I could use, that would display correctly in the web server's remote control.

Need Help Streaming Video From Web Server Built Into Application - Linksys WRT54g Router
Very much appreciate any help getting streaming video feed from web server built into video application to work properly using port forwarding on my Linksys WRT54g wireless router.
Here is the situation:
My PC is connected to the internet via a Linksys WRT54g wireless router.
The Windows XP Pro SP2 firewall is enabled, with a firewall exception established for the video camera application.
On the router, forwarding of port 80 is enabled for the LAN IP address of the PC running the video application with an embedded web server, and the web server in the video camera application is also set to use port 80.
I have a free DYNDNS account and also run the DYNDNS updater program on the PC running the video application with embedded web server. According to the DYNDNS web site and the DYNDNS updater program, the IP address assigned to the machine running the video application with embedded web server is set correctly in my dyndns account.
When I open a browser (Explorer or Firefox) on the PC running the video camera application with embedded web server, I am able to connect to the video application's web server by going to the dyndns address linked to the machine running the video application. The video application's web server is set to use the dyndns address. That's the good news. The bad news is that I can't connect to the video application's web server from any machine that connects to the internet that uses a router other than the router used by the PC running the video application. I am only able to connect to the streaming video from the application's web server only on machines that connect to the internet using the same (home) router used by the PC that is running the video application.
Since I am able to connect to the video app's embedded web server successfully on the machine running the video application, it seems that at least something about the current port forwarding settings is correct. For example, if I uncheck 'enable' for forwarding of port 80 on the router settings page, I am no longer able to connect to the video app's web server when I try to do so in a browser running on the machine running the video app. When I re-enable port 80 forwarding on the router, I am again able to connect to the web server of the video application on the machine running the video app. I thought that by enabling forwarding of port 80 on the router and associating that port with the LAN IP of the machine running the video application, it would be possible to connect to the streaming video of the video app's embedded web server from ANY machine connected to the internet, but that is not the case. There must be some other router settings to update/change in order to get the port forwarding working to enable a successful connection to the video web server, but I am stumped. Very grateful for any suggestions as to how to get this working properly.
Thanks in advance...The firewall log can be configured on the third tab in the window for the firewall settings, where you can turn the firewall on and off completely.
From your tests, though, it does not seem to be the firewall. However, to be sure, it would be good to check the log. It will help to eliminate the firewall as the culprit and you may find it handy in the future, too. ;-) Just don't forget to turn the log off again after you are done because it may cause some performance penalty on your system while on.
From what you write, it seems as if I should give a little networking background on the ip addresses you'll see. Your setup is (or should be) a modem connected to the WAN/Internet port of the WRT. The computer is connected into a LAN port of the WRT.
Your router has two IP addresses (that's what makes it a router): a WAN address and a LAN address. The WAN address is the address assigned by the ISP. It is a normal internet IP address. Everyone is able to send packets to this IP address. The WAN address is the one reported by whatismyipaddress.com, it should be listed in the dyndns record and it is the address that your router shows on the Status page. It's the public IP address of your router. Dyndns maps your dyndns.org name to that IP address.
Your router also has an IP address on the LAN side. You can configure it to be whatever you want. The default is 192.168.1.1 with netmask 255.255.255.0 and it is better to leave it like that or at least inside the network 192.168.*.*. 192.168 is a special, reserved IP address range for private networks. Basically, routers in the internet are not supposed to forward addresses in this range. That makes them suitable for private LANs as the packets never can get anywhere. Most people using Linksys routers have there LAN in 192.168.1.*.
The router acts as gateway, which means it forwards packets from PCs in the LAN to the internet and back. As all your PCs in your LAN share a single WAN IP address, the gateway does address translation (NAT). This works only in one direction: from the inside to the outside. The router remembers when a PC in your LAN sends something out and accepts the responses in and sending them back to the PC. If something comes in from the internet which cannot be associated with a ongoing communication the packet is dropped unless you use port forwarding.
All computers in your LAN either have a static IP address assigned or use DHCP to get it automatically. The router has a DHCP server as well which gives out IP address from 192.168.1.100-149 if not changed. With a router with default settings static IP addresses can be in the range of 192.168.1.2-99 and 150-254.
ipconfig /all reports your IP address in your LAN, i.e. an address 192.168.1.*. The gateway in this output should be 192.168.1.1 which is your router. And packet no in the LAN address range 192.168.1.* is send to the router which forwards the packets into the internet.
An address 192.168.1.* should not appear as internet address in the Status page of the router nor should it appear at dyndns.
Port forwarding is used to operate a server in the LAN. By default, a server in the LAN cannot be reached from the internet. You have to configure port forwarding for this. You configure that traffic bound for a specific port (e.g. TCP port 80 for http) on your WAN IP address is forwarded to the same port on a specific LAN IP address. If your server runs on 192.168.1.50 than traffic to your WAN IP address port 80 is forwarded to 192.168.1.50 port 80. That way your HTTP server can be reached from the internet. As you can only configure a fixed IP address in port forwarding it is recommended that the server uses a static IP address and not DHCP as in the latter case the IP address may change over time...
O.K. so much for networking. I hope that makes things a little clearer and you can verify that your setup is how it is intended to be.
I suggest the following: on the router's security page there is an option to block WAN requests. Remove the check if it is set (meaning: do not block). After you did that change you should be able to ping your WAN address (e.g. ping xxxx.dyndns.org) from the internet. That way we know that it is on the correct address.
Also on the Administration page make sure that remote management is disabled (should be like that per default) or that the management port is NOT 80 but for example 8080. What is your your UPnP settings on the same page?
O.K. that should be enough for the moment... -
Safari will not play streaming video or audio
Hi everyone,
I have had my iBook for a year and never even tried to take advantage of streaming video or audio b/c I had a dial-up connetion until very recently. Now that I have a high speed connection I would like to watch trailers and listen to music on myspace. I cannot watch trailers at www.apple.com/trailers/ or any video on myspace.com. Nor can I listen to music (I think they are xml files) on myspace.com. I'm currently running on Mac OSX 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.1. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
ChristopherHi
Well I have the opposite effect here - the video plays fine on my MBP, yet not on my Intel iMac. On the iMac the video panel never appears. Rather tells me it needs Flash.
Safari is the same on both systems (or at least that's what I think). No plugin blocks are present. To test if the Preference files might be causing the problem, On the iMac, I moved to the desktop from the Macromedia folder in ~/Library/Preferences folder the folder inside the SharedObjects folder. Restarted the system/Safari but the video still does not play.
In the past, Layers magazine has not been a problem, however, I haven't viewed one for several months. Given what others have posted, there seems to be an oddity here that is not machine or Safari specific. I'll have to investigate more when I have time tomorrow.
Try the Video from another user account. See if this is system-wide, or just specific to your user account. BTW, video played fine on the iMac in Firefox. -
Hello,
Can I stream video (through WebCam) and audio (through Mic) in Applets?
Can I access the user WebCam from Applet?
ThanksHello,
Can I stream video (through WebCam) and audio (through
Mic) in Applets?
Can I access the user WebCam from Applet?
ThanksTo access the user WebCam from Applet, you can use the Java Twain package http://www.gnome.sk
There is a tutorial with many code examples. One part of the tutorial deals specially with remote applications - there are applet code examples.
On the http://www.gnome.sk there are online examples for the remote applications too - if you have a webcam connected to your computer, the Upload Applet will get an image from your webcam and upload it to the server.

Application or plug-in for grabbing streaming video?
I am looking for a shareware application or plug-in for Q-Time or Safari that will simply allow me to grab a streaming video I am viewing on the web. I don't need a power program.
If anyone has a suggestion, website, other forum (I've already queried Tiger and Q-Time forums), or other direction to point me, TIA.CosmoPod downloads the original file format (which can be retained), then converts to either MPEG4 or H264 (Best or Better). The file conversion is dependent on your Preference settings.
For functional purposes, CosmoPod places a Tool Icon on your Toolbar. Plus, the download/preference panel can be accessed via the Window menu. Videos can be directed to a Download location, or directly to iTunes.
Whether or not a file can be downloaded depends on file accessibility permissions on the provider's end. Trial version gives you 5 days/10 videos, which ought to give you a sense of whether it serves your purposes. -
I can't view streaming video or get streaming audio
Youtube and other progressive video works fine. Even video on Fox News' website. I can't stream video from their website from any of the three streams (FNC, FBN, FoxLive). I also can't use many radio stations that use flash player, such as Mark Levin and KFMB San Diego. Flash tries to connect to the servers and just never does. Problem occurs in IE and Firefox.
I had a permissions fight with a video driver prior to this. I was out of disk space and removed som things. I ran CCleaner and deleted some things.
Troubleshooting: Used uninstaller to remove flash. Re-installed. Disabled firewall and tested (no fix). I cleared browser caches (no fix). Reset browser settings to default (OMG, that screwed up my address bar system whereby I type gg search and get google feeling lucky and other shortcuts and it removed all my search engines)
After many hours of trying everything I could think of, IE showed the video . I shut it down and tried Firefox.... no go. Tried IE again.... no go.
It's a left-wing conspiracy!Yup. I feel like a boob. I've been an MCSE since the 90's. Cut my teeth on Netware and Banyan Vines. I failed to check the obvious. I restarted in safe mode as suggested and the player worked. I guessed it was a service that was stopping me. Wrong... even simpler. There was a new 'friend' in my task list. I think I updated Ccleaner off the download.com web site. What BS. Sendori was installed. It wasn't picked up as malicious by Security Essentials but it screwed me up and I don't remember installing it. I'm very good about unchecking boxes when installing software I want (ccleaner). I uninstalled using control panel - programs & features. At least it uninstalled nicely and I didn't have to chop it out with malwarebytes or by hand.
Thanks, Chris. -
Can't watch streaming videos anymore.
I am using Apple OS 10.4.11 (Tiger) with Flash Player 10.1 on a Desktop Emac and on a Laptop MacBook. Both computers are similar, if not identical in setup and software employed. Yesterday I could view streaming videos on both computers. Today I suddenly cannot view streaming videos on the Desktop, but I can on the Laptop. How is that possible? Webcams attempt to load on the Desktop, saying "Loading interface", but where the Laptop goes on to say "Initializing", the Desktop now says "Loading Error 102, please try again", but re-trying does not help. It is as though i have shut something off that was on before. I have tried downloading Java and Java Script, Flashplayer 10.102.64, checking to make sure no Firewall is up, Java is enabled, and everything else I have found online to try to remedy the situation, to no avail.
Occasionally, I accidentally trip an F key and have to work through it. Could I have tripped something that now won't let me watch streaming videos on my Desktop? Is that possible? I just can't find any answers. Any new suggestions?Open System Preferences/QuickTime
Click the 'Streaming' tab
Set the speed to one slower than your network connection
Check 'Enable Instant on'
Drag the slider 2-3 notches from the left
Click the 'Browser' tab
Check 'Play movies automatically'
Check 'Save movies in disc cache'
Slide the size selector all the way to the right
Click 'Empty Download cache'
Close the panel and try viewing another video -
List of devices that support streaming video?
Does anyone know of a list that details which devices support
streaming video under Flash Lite 2, and ideally what codecs they
support?
I was excited to see Flash Lite 2.1 support for Windows
Mobile, but my T-Mobile SDA doesn't support streaming video through
FL2.I have a related issue with my T3030 system. The loudspeakers still work fine but the remote volume control cable has a problem, probably a broken lead or faulty contact as in the beginning the sound went away on and off and by twiggling the cable it came back. Now it's completely dead but the green LED still comes on. I went to several CL shops and nobody could help me except to offer me buy a new system but I don't want to do that! So does anyone if I can order the volume control cable separately? Maybe the newer system such as the T300 have the same cable?
Thank you

Won't load streaming videos.
Ok.. Youtube works, but other websites that stream videos on websites like Viddler and the like WILL NOT load at all. I just get the gear loading symbol and nothing happens. Sometimes if I leave the page the video will show right before I leave.
I've done things said in these 2 threads I found so far.

I saw that I had the 10.5.8 Version of Mac OS X so I'm updating to v. 10.6.4 as we speak.
But i've been trying everything the last 2 hours and nothing has worked at all.
Any suggestions?HI,
Might be a good idea at this point to boot from your install disc and run Disk Utility especially since two browsers are involved and you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 15% free space.*

Safari Crashes Computer during Streaming Video play.
So, for the past week or three I've been having some problems with Safari on my Old Macbook Pro, namely that when I'm trying to watch streaming video it'll freeze up. But not always. And it's only the video that freezes, not the sound. That'll play fine, but I'll only get a still image. At first I thought it was Hulu, but it's been happening on quite a number of video sites. So... yeah.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what did you do to fix it? Is there an update I need?HI,
You need to uninstall the version of Flash Player plugin you have and reinstall a new copy.
Go here to uninstall Flash.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
When you are finished uninstalling the old Flash plugin, go here and install a fresh copy
of Flash Player plugin.
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
As with any software installations, repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
