Struts support for netbeans

Hi
Can some one please guide me through the steps for adding struts support to Netbeans 4.1. If you can give me a link to a tutorial which explains it.

First u have to open the NetBeans IDE then goto Menubar Select File --> select NewProject
step1) choose project in this step select web and select webapplication then clidk Next
step2)Name and Location give whatever name u want and the location
step3)Frameworks: There will be two options with checkboxes in that u have to select struts, click finish

NEED FAST AND BEST JAVAEE 5 SERVER SUPPORT FOR NETBEANS 5.5

I am using j2ee technology for open source development since j2ee 1.4 sdk. The Sun Application Server 8.1 and 8.2 were bit fine to start with netbeans. But Glassfish seem to be too slow to start and deploy. Can anyone tell me the fastest and best performance app server to use with netbeans 5.5.
The computer specs are
PIII 500 MHz
512 100/333 MHz SDRAM

What difference does it make how quick the app server takes to start and deploy?? That's about the most arbitrary criteria for choosing an app. server I've ever heard. Might as well choose based on the colour of the logo!
Seriously, use whichever one you think you're most likely to encounter. Looking at the spec. of your machine, no app. server is going to run particularly fast. Look into getting a faster machine, or at least a second machine of similar specs to run the server on. Poor thing must be exhausted :-)

Struts Support

Just to complete my set of unreasonable requests, I would also love to see Struts support for JSR 168 Portlets.
The Apache Struts project now has a Struts Portlet Bridge, so it may just be a question of porting this to Plumtree's JSR 168 implementation.
Ths may actually eb higher priority than JSF support, since we and everyone else have lots of Struts web apps that we would like to convert to portlets.

Why then does Oracle reccomend that development teams use this type of development framework, knowing full well that apps developed in this manner will not work in the app server portal product.
If we cannot deploy a J2EE app developed using struts & BC4J into portal what is the point of using the app server, one may aswell deploy on Tomcat. The whole point of using Portal is the additional services such SSO, OID, Portal Page Designer etc that make development of the app faster.
Don't get me wrong - we are totally commited to Oracle & the product set - what makes my blood boil is that we adpot a strategy as advocated by Oracle for RAD by using BC4J & Struts only to find we cannot deliver to the customer because Oracle never told us it wouldn't work.

RAD7 support for struts

Support for struts in RAD7 is added at the time of installation.But,
if support for struts was not addedat the time of istallation of RAD7(Rational Application Developer) ......, is there any way we to add support for struts,for developing struts applicaiton in RAD 7...?

a brief answer, Portal 7.0 does not have the possibility to make usage of Struts within the Portal Framework.
7.0 has 'WebFlow' as a MVC pattern and you design your processing flow logic with the help of EBCC.
8.1 Platform and specifically Java Page Flow is based on Struts. Here you can make use of Struts Actions by Portlets and Portal applications.

Struts Support: "Cannot parse the struts configuration file" when using the Struts Portlet Wizard

I'm currently trying to deploy the struts-example webapp from Struts 1.1 RC1 into
Weblogic Portal 8.1 using the Struts Portlet wizard made available by the "JSR
168 and Struts Support" patch.
I select the struts module successfully "struts-example" and am prompted for the
location of name mangled configuration file (i.e "struts-config.xml" for struts-example
becomes "jpf-struts-config-struts-example.xml").
As soon as I hit next, I am prompted with a dialog informing that me that [Workbench]
"Cannot parse the struts configuration file."
Given that this is a file supplied with the struts distro and that I can deploy
the struts-example to Vanilla WLS 8.1 without problems I suspect this is a problem
with my attempt to use the Struts Portlet.
Can anyone please help?

Does BC4J works as ORM (eg: Toplink) to support for MSQL Server / Oracle DB

My current product is running on Struts 1.1, Apache Cocoon(for reports generation), JDBC & MS SQL Server environment.
To provide the more flexibility & user friendliness to the application I have a proposal for the re-development of the application with ADF 11g.
But the main concern here is, the current product is running on MS Sql Server DB, now the product team has a future plan to migrate it to Oracle Database. In view of this DB migration, the frame work/environment that I choose for the re-development must support for very less code changes (at least from the Application Business logic/Queries prospective)
Here I have two options for the re-development
1. ADF 11g + Top-link (ORM) + MS Sql Server / Oracle DB
2. ADF 11g + BC4J + MS Sql Server / Oracle DB
Plz suggest me, out of these two options which one suits for my requirement & better in performance too

Struts support in portal

When is portal going to properly support Struts based applications?
Jdev 903 has support for Strust (well sort of it's somewhere between Strust 1.0 and 1.1) - thanks Jdev team! but Portal in 9iAS 902 does not support struts apps at all! One can deploy a struts based app as a portal provider but when it comes to running the struts app modules as portlets it bombs! The app does work in Jdev though...
So much for following Oracle's advice on using frameworks and believing that it would actually work in the app server as it should AN INTEGRATED APPLICATION SERVER.

Forum for Netbeans, JavaFX Composer ...

I don't see a dedicated forum for JavaFX/Netbeans users. At the forums.netbeans.org site there is'nt anything dedicated for JavaFX. Here there is'nt anything dedicated for Netbeans.
IMHO a dedicated forum would be valuable. JavaFX seems to be the "future client stack" for Java and Netbeans the principal IDE that supports it.
What do you all think ?.

JSR 168 and Struts support sample error

I'm trying to get the sample webapp for JSR 168 and Struts support working with
WebLogic 8.1, and I'm having problems with the struts portlet. The other portlets
seem to work fine, but the Struts portlet gives the following error after clicking
"Save" on most of the forms:
Page Flow Error - Action Not Found
Page Flow: Global.app
Action: html-setters.do
Unable to find action html-setters.do.
That error appears in the browser. At the same time, the following exception
appears in the server window:

while running a lifecycle stage :: Lifecycle: UIControl.render :: for the control

[struts/exercise-taglib].
This exception is followed by hundreds of lines of the following:
at com.bea.wlw.netui.pageflow.scoping.ScopedServletUtils.strutsLookup(ScopedServletUtils.java:363)
as well as several stack overflow errors.
I believe I have installed the JSR168 and Struts support package according to
the instructions, and have copied the required jars into the samples WEB-INF/lib
directory. I also have tried to write my own Struts application in a portlet,
and it gets the exact same errors when I try to submit a form to my actions.
Any insight would be much appreciated!

Hi Brodi,
I am having the same problem as Patrick. The problem is not in the struts portlet,
but in the forms the portlet navigates to. After the struts portlet loads, I
am able to use the html:links and navigate through the pages. Though when I try
to submit a form I get the action not found error. For example the html-select
page has a form. This page loads fine, but when I hit the save button I get the
following error.

Struts Support: Parsing Portlet JSP File failed

I've manually edited a my .portlet file to contain a strutsContent element (copied
from the struts.porlet in the JSR 168 and Struts Support sample). When I run my
portal I get an error message:
java.lang.RuntimeException: Didn't find TagInfo for tag:strutsContent
Can anyone help?

Thanks for the tip - netuix_taglib.jar was indeed the not the correct version.
Interestingly, this file is not mentioned in the "JSR 168 and Struts Support"
install docs. I have replaced this file and the struts-example webapp now starts
(after setting up an action to forward to the index page).
However, I am having problems with the message bundle properties files ApplicationResources.properties
and AlternateApplicationResources.properties as neither of these files are being
picked up.
These files are located in org/apache/struts/webapp/example in WEB-INF/src and
WEB-INF/classes of my webapp (i.e. <WEBAPP>/WEB-INF - my struts-example resides
in <WEBAPP>/struts-example).
I've also tried adding <init-param>'s to the <WEB-APP>/WEB-INF/web.xml file for
the action servlet as follows:

JMX Plugins is ready for NetBeans 6

An alpha release of the JMX netbeans module is now available from the NetBeans Development Update Center (UC).
The support for JMX instrumentation has been enhanced with a new wizard for MXBeans, support for the Java SE plaform 6 JConsole Plugins and a lot of other improvements throughout.

Please add support for Tiles

I have been looking on other lists and sites and this seems to be a big missing piece of both JSC and JSF -> the ability to template the layout of pages.
As a Struts developer, I find creating page templates in Tiles, them being able to reuse, inhertit from and tweak with only a few lines of XML in the tiles-def.xml and incredibly powerful and time saving tool. Yet apart form some clever us of prelude and coda in a few demo apps (Bookstore6 from the J2EE14 Tutorial), ther seems to be little support for this in either the IDE or the spec.
I realize that JSF is about components, but layout is just as important.
Any kind of page layout templating support would be appreciated - it doesn't have to be Tiles but it would be nice.
In the mean time, has anyone come up with workarounds for this?

JSF does support the use of Struts-Tiles, but Sun Java Studio Creator does not. I've tried using Tiles within Creator, but it will not allow me to modify the included JSP pages properly. For example, when I remove the html, body, and f:view tags from the page to be included, Creator automatically re-adds them, resulting in broken functionality.
The lack of templating support is rather distressing and is one reason I am holding off on using Creator to create production code. For now, it's more of a play thing.
Templating support is a must!

For your kind information, I would like to tell you that I have been using Crystal Reports for more than 2 years with Visual Studio .Net. I had found a Crystal Reports package for Eclipse IDE (I assume you know what it is) a year before. So I assume that there could be a Crystal Reports package for NetBeans 6.0 IDE also. I had searched Internet, NetBeans Plugin Pages, www.businessobjects.com and many other websites but all in vein. So, I think that I may get a link or any satisfacting answer from this forum. But, again all in vein.
I would like to make two suggestion that,
1. DON'T CATCH ONE'S TOUNGE.
2. LET YOUR NOSE OUT OF ONE'S PROBLEM IF YOU DON'T ANYTHING ABOUT THE ANSWER.Regards,
