after import external svg file with layers ( created with adobe Ai ) in An , how can i modify color and strok , path , and also animate that !?... without using any .js

i tried that , the EdgeCommons is great but Its application to work with Svg files is limited ,i tried to use Snap.Svg and finally found true way .
but have problem here : when i used that without any goal div , work perfectly in every modern browser but make svg file outer of the stage !!! , and with a goal div that work only in FF , IE and stuck in chrome and dont work correctly !!!!

How do I use an Edge Animate project with SVG files in InDesign for DPS output?

Is there any way to include an Edge Animate web content using .svg files in InDesign for output to DPS?
Edge Animate works great with InDesign, except for when you're using SVG files. I've worked with SVG files on the web successfully (writing .htaccess files and such), but it seems like InDesign doesn't like them.
This is pretty important because I don't want to have to design multiple renditions on the DPS suite. Currently I have it setup as a PDF format (DPS) and that scales all of the vector-based type perfectly. It would be wonderful if the animations could also be in a vector format so that when the iPad (3) users see the designs, they will scale naturally through the PDF framework.
Any advice would be invaluable.

Yes, the SVG is a vector format which is XML-based; AI is supposed to be able to open and save 'em...Adobe claims to be very supportive of the format.
This is my first exposure to these files, and I can't get (at least this set of) files to work as advertised.
I'll post more later in the week after I get to speak with the file vendor.

Trying to work with .svg file

I downloaded an .svg file from wikipedia here http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1b/Map_of_Virginia_Counties_and_Independen t_Cities.svg
I can open the file and it tells me I don't have the font used but I can't see any of the artwork. Is there something I am doing wrong, I really don't want to have to re-create this if I can use this file. Please help.

Stuck with videoTS files

Hi there,
I would like to use a clip in FCP that comes from one of my old own DVD that I made a few years ago with a home DVD recorder from a TV program that was not under copyright protection.
The DVD looks fine as long as I play it on a home video DVD player deck.
The problem is that when I use MPEG streamclip, or DVDxdv to try and extract the clip I would like to use, I can only get the very beginning of the DVD extracted -- only a few 100 Mb instead of the 1.8 GB burned on the DVD.
I tried to export each VOB file but it does not work...
Could someone help ?

I can reassure you, I am not working with a piece of commercial movie. My work only.
That being said, I entered fix breaks in the preferences, but when I open the VTS011.VOB file, I am not asked to fix breaks and the first part of the DVD opens
If I want to open the VTS012.VOB file, I am asked
"Would you like to open all the files of the stream together?."
If I choose, only 1 file, I get a message error saying "File open error: unrecognized file type"
if I choose "open anyway", it says "File open error: can't find video or audio tracks"
If I say Yes to all files, I get the same File open error message
if I open anyway, then I get the first sequence (VTS1) alone.
Again the DVD is playing OK on a home DVD deck, but not on the computer with DVD player. Stops at the same point after VTS1 sequence. Same thing if I use DVDxDV app.
I even tried to burn a new DVD from the original one. Did not improve a thing....
Any idea ?

Why does Illustrator adds whitespace to my exported .svg file?

Hi there,
everytime I try to save an logo, icon or anything else as a .svg file Illustrator adds whitespace to it. I'm going crazy. I cropped the canvas to the point that there should be now useless space. After saving the file as an .svg it has whitespace where it shouldn't be.
I'm using the german version, so I don't know how this option is called in english: "Use canvas" when saving I activated, didn't help at all.
I'm really desperate. Anybody else experiencing this problem with .svg files?

Without proper system info, save settings, screenshots and ultimately the SVG code nobody can say anything. you haven't even told us what version of AI. That aside, there may always be extra padding due to how SVGs need to be rendered inside a drawing box and some items otehrwise would not show up. It may not be "fixable" even by manually hacking the code.

Nautilus freezes when move from some folder with SVG inside

When I move to folder with SVG-file inside and then move to any other folder (for example move up) nautilus
When I try to open such svg in Eye Of Gnome it is opened properly without errors.
I didn't catch any error in /var/log/*.logs and in ~/.xsession-errors.
I have a Intel HD3000 integrated in my Intel i7.

Well, no... I can hear drive heads moving and reading some info - no starting the drive. Now it can happen almost in any folder.

FrameMaker 10 Corrupts Searchable Text in SVG Files

I notice that a font issue occurs with SVG files in FrameMaker 10.0.2.419 saved as PDF.
1. Open a FrameMaker document that contains SVG images. The SVG images contain text. Text is in Arial font.
2. Save FrameMaker file as PDF.
3. Search PDF file for instances of words contained in SVG images. Text not found. Text is rendered correctly. But upon inspection, when copied and pasted into NotePad, text is rendered as squares: . Acrobat properties show that the original font is ArialMT.
Things I already tried:
Font embedding settings in Distiller. No effect.
Using File > Print in FrameMaker instead of Save as PDF. No effect.
Using a different version of Distiller. No effect.
Using a printer instead of Distiller and printing a post-script file. No effect.
It seems instead to be an issue with the FrameMaker patch that updated the version to 10.0.2.419. Prior to that patch, things seemed to work correctly. And things seem to work correctly in FrameMaker 8.

Thanks for your offline replies. To summarize, we found that it's either the CoolType engine or the SVG import filter. One of those is converting the fonts to the CID Identity-H format and rendering it unsearchable in the PDF file. In FM8, it depends upon the font specified as to whether or not it gets converted to the CID Identity-H format.

So the newer versions of FM always convert SVG fonts to CID, while older version does not convert TrueType fonts to CID. That's why FM8 appeared to handle SVG-text conversions correctly.
I took it upon myself to attempt swapping out the CoolType.dll file to see if an older version would work with FrameMaker 10. But this did not work, and depending on the .dll version, caused FrameMaker to crash.
We talked about a potential solution with ExtendScripts where we might create a script that extracts the text strings from the SVG, which is a simple XML format with the text is clearly delineated-- so perhaps an XSLT to get the strings externally first-- puts the text strings in a look-up table associated with the svg filename and then in the documents adds those text strings (using the invisible colour) to the anchored frames containing the appropriate svg. But this seems like a big project to me. I don't think I could spare the time.
We suggest (for now) to use another graphic file format OR re-enter the required text using either the Text tool or a text frame overtop of the graphic (use a custom colour so you can see it and then before generating the PDF, redefine the colour to render as white so it's invisible in the PDF). That way, a search in the PDF will stop at the graphic.
We are reporting this as a bug.

Automate, Batch problem with exporting files

Hello.
I have already used batch many times where i have for example changed image size and then exported it to another folder. So my actoin looked like:
- image size
- export
- close
Then i have set the batch source and destination folder and it all went smooth. All the work has been done automatically with no click needed.
Today im having problem however: When i do the above steps photoshop do all these actions to all the source files but saves them all as single file whic is being replaced over and over and over againw ith same name... I dont see any difference in what i have done now and what i have been doing all the time but this time it just do not want to modify and export the modifyied source files with their own names to the destination folded... Im stuck with 1 file in destination folder with source name of the first file in source folder (when i look in that folder during the batch process i see the thumbnail image changing)...
All i could do to finally finish my work was to delete "export" and "close" positions from the saved action so it started asking me about compression when each file has been modified... It works, finally i have all modified source files in destination folder, but it kept asking me about compression with each file... it can hardly be called automated process.
Anyone have any idea why it stopped working while it have been working before flawlessly?

When you record the export (save for web),
if you change the name in export dialog, then
file will be replaced over and over.

HT201210 I am stuck with "The iPad could not be restored because the firmware file was corrupt" message.

I have an iPad mini and it was on iOS 6.1.3, my friend came and he said that he knows how to install iOS 7 for me. I gave it to him and he tried to install it, but apparently he failed to do so and an "Activation Error" is appearing on the screen now asking me to register in the developers program.
Now, we are trying to restore it back to iOS 6.1.3 using iTunes, the software downloads well and it starts restoring but that I keep getting this error message "The iPad could not be restored because the firmware file was corrupt.".
I am sure that the file is not corrupted because it's downloaded via iTunes regular download and it's not from an outside source.
I am stuck with this now and my iPad is useless this way.
Please any suggestions ?

Now to maybe get you out of the restoring jam, the only thing that I can think of that might work is to use recovery mode, unless you already tried it and it didn't work.

Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore iPad.

SVG file with links to other SVG files - links don't work

I have an SVG image with a few dozen linked images, all of which are pointing to external SVG files. If I open the main SVG in a web browser, it loads up correctly with all the linked images, so I know the file is correct.
When I open it in illustrator, I get the following message:
Could not find a plug-in to read the linked file "test.svg". Choose Replace to select another file or Ignore to leave the link unchanged.
If I choose Ignore, the file loads up but the linked SVGs are removed. Obviously Illustrator doesn't really need a plugin to read an SVG file, because it loads the main SVG with no problem.
Meanwhile I have other links pointing to PNG files which all work fine. In fact I can open the main SVG, find one of the PNG links, and click Re-Link, and then link them to an SVG, and this will work! Although it doesn't work as desired, instead of making a link, it seems to import the external SVG's layers, which is not desired.
I'm pretty sure it's just one of those things that will never work, but does anyone have any thoughts on making it work?
FYI here's some source code from the main SVG, where it links to the external SVG:

and like I said, both links work fine when the main SVG is opened in a web browser.

I think the problem is that illustrator just isn't capable of linking to an SVG from within an SVG. Try it yourself with two very simple files, I just did.
create a "main.svg" with just a line
create a "link.svg" with another line
save a copy of link.svg as link.png (using export to web)
-- now you have three files, put them all in the same directory just to make life easy
in main.svg, file >> place >> link.png
-- illustrator will place the PNG as a linked image
in main.svg, file >> place >> link.svg
-- illustrator will import layers from the SVG, it will not place it as a linked image
If you save this file and open in a text editor, you'll see your image link to the PNG file, and you'll see two <line/> elements, one that you had in main.svg and another that you had in link.svg (it has now been imported into main.svg)
In the text editor, try duplicating the image link, and change the href of your duplicate to link.svg, then save.
Re-open main.svg in illustrator. It should give you the error message about the linked svg, the same one I saw originally.
I did all this using CS6. Then I tried opening the final main.svg file in CC and saw the same error message.

So, how do I delete this folder. Remember, I am not extremely familiar with technical terms.

I recommend you erase the TC.. it is the easiest and fastest solution.
In Airport utility open the disk tab and select erase.. choose quick erase.. it will take less than 1min.
Start again but copy files in small amounts.

Stuck with File Path

I am writing a very simple script that exports an image's cutline for my newsroom, i am getting stuck with the having it write the file to the correct path. When I run script as below it works, writing the file to my documents:

Thanks for the help guys. I wasn't actually putting the files on C: it was actually going to a mapped network drive and for some reason last night the server was working incorrectly and that is where my problems where coming from. But that raises my next question, is there anyway to address the path with mapping the drive, so it would be a refence to the server. If i was browsing the path it would be TARHSHARE/PHOTOS/photos/DailyATS/Cutlines. With PHOTOS mapped to drive P the path is P:/Photos/Daily/ATS/Cutlines. So what I want to do is get it work without mapping the drive, so the script will work on all of the photographers accounts without mapping the drive.
