Student vs Education..?

Hi I have the CS3 design Standard for Mac (student edition) but have just recently finished studying and am therefore no longer a student.  I'll be doing some freelance work and am wondering if I need to buy the Education version?  I want to upgrade so that I also have Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks so I'm thinking that I need to buy the Design Premium software (Education)..?
If someone could clear things up for me it'd be great.
Thanks

If you're no longer a student you'll have to buy the commercial upgrade of CS4.

  • Student and Educator Discount

I am interested in this large discount.  However, is the discount only towards college students, or high school students as well?  I couldn't really understand what was said at this site:

I will be a senior next year, and I really want to get the Student Edition of CS5, but I want to make sure I qualify first.  Thanks.

  • Student licence / educational box

I am an art school student and a little confused about the difference between the "student license and the educational box".
Can "educational box" version be upgraded in the future?
Can "educational box" be used for commercial purposes?
Can student purchase this version? or only faculty and teachers can.
    Thanks.

  • Which fonts (if any) are included in Acrobat XI Pro (student license)?

It was mentioned to me that rather than buying only the licenses for a few fonts I am interested in, I should consider purchasing Acrobat XI Pro as the fonts may come with the package. However, nowhere can I seem to find out if any fonts indeed come with Acrobat XI Pro. Can someone please advise? Thank you.

Acrobat is not one of the Adobe products that comes bundled with a bunch of fonts.
Buried within Acrobat's resources are a bunch of fonts to support PDF usage in various non-Latin character set languages, but these are not available for use by other programs as-installed.
By the way, student and educational licenses of Adobe products come with the same resources as those for full commercial license use.

  • Upgrade from CS4 Master Education to CS5 Master Education

    Hi,
I just bought the CS4 Master Student Edition in February 2010 and I didn't realize that there was going to be a new version so soon.  If I wanted to upgrade to the CS5 Master Student Edition would it just be the commercial upgrade price or is there a student discount on an upgrade?  (I know that the there's a big discount already, but I just thought to ask first.)  The upgrade looks like it's amazing and I'd love to be able to use the new edition for my remaining college courses but I'm not sure if I'd be able to squeeze out $900 after we just bought CS4 this year so if there was a discount that would be awesome!
    Thank you so much,
    Katie

There are no upgrades available between student or educational versions of Adobe products. You can either upgrade to the commercial version of CS5 from your student version of CS4 or you can buy a full CS5 student version (as you noted, the student versions are very highly discounted), whichever is more economically advantageous to you.

  • Photoshop CS4 vs. CS4 Extended Student Edition

I have Photoshop CS2, and it's incompatible with Vista on my laptop. At this point I'm going to buy some version of Photoshop CS4. So here are my questions:
    - What's the difference between Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop CS4 Extended? The extended version Student Edition is significantly cheaper.
    - Should I just buy the regular Photoshop CS4 Upgrade or is the student/education edition of Photoshop CS4 cheaper?
At this point it's a matter of what to buy and what's the least expensive.

In the absence of any clearly stated restrictions against commercial use of Adobe software puchased under any kind of discounted student or educational licensing program, I personally say "go for it".
If you have concerns about not being able to use the software for commercial reasons, certainly an inquiry to Adobe could be done, but even there you might get a wrong answer, so you should ask for specific documentation of such restrictions. In the absence of that, the burden of prosecution lies upon Adobe to pursue violations of a "no commercial use" rule and showing it was clearly stated for the product in question at the time of purchase. I suspect Adobe has a lot better ways to invest their time and money than in trying to identify an artist whose work they suspect was created using Adobe software, tracking down that person and, getting legal authorization to have an investigation performed into conclusively proving said artwork was created by Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. as opposed to other capabale digital imaging applications (Corel Draw, The GIMP, PaintShop Pro, etc.).
Zero reason for Adobe to offer such a discounted price on their software? I think not...for years we saw, and perhaps still do, Adobe software that was normally very expensive yet was greatly discounted when bundled with hardware. By the same argument of zero reason for a discounted student license, I could say the same would be true to those hardware/software bundles...but, there is good reason to offer the software at reduced prices in both cases: NEW CUSTOMER and FUTURE SALES, or at least the potential for that. Conversely, one might just opt instead for a lower-cost software package and happily stay with it for years to come.
I started using Photoshop with version 3.0 that was in a scanner bundle, and I've upgraded to nearly every version ever since. Sure, Adobe would've made even more off me if I'd paid the full price initially, but that is something I'd not have done...in fact, I even remember buying Micrografx Picture Publisher because it was inexpensive and yet pretty highly regarded at the time. After a bit of time using PS, I hated Picture Publisher, and as my experience grew, I also found my recommenations to others was to go the Adobe route. So, maybe that lower-cost investment in Photoshop paid off more in the long run for Adobe than if I'd paid full price or even a modestly higher one at the time. I think the same is true today, in Adobe offering their software at greatly reduced prices to students or anyone qualifying for a given discounted license.
I also believe that a discounted software license should come without any restrictions on commercial use, because:
    1) Burden of proof is going to be more costly than the profit loss on the product in question unless pursued on a large scale, in which case the software manufacturer would (or should?) garner a strong customer backlash.
    2) If a student qualifies to purchase discounted software and is talented enough to use said software to create marketable artwork, and if they can offset some of their cost of education by selling this artwork while still in school, then that's great!
    3) Just because a student's education is later completed, shouldn't restrict them from commercially using software they purchased while still a student.
    Regards,
    Daryl

  • Upgrading student

Hi, Here in Australia we have two discounted versions of master collection - one for students approx $500 and one for educational approx $1300.
My understanding is that the educational can be used for commercial purposes but not the student version.
I have searched high and low for info about upgrading student version when a new version comes out and also about upgrading to commercial version when finishing studies but have found no information.   Can someone please offer some info or direct me towards it as I need to purchase for uni.   Thank you

Thanks Mylenium but this website seems to think it can be upgraded -
    http://www.advancesoftware.com.au/Adobe-Academic-Student-Compare.php
Have a look at the chart it says both student and education can be upgraded.
Id like to get some correct info on this issue.  Where do adobe mention it on their website?  Why is it so difficult to find out?

  • Educational License

I want to buy the Production Premium CS3 educational lincense but I read that it only activates once per 12 months which doesn't work for me because I reinstall windows frequently to get rid of viruses and other problems. I've been screwed before with activation because I format a lot, so can someone tell me if this is true? It seems hard to believe adobe would be so dumb as to make a tech enthusiast program only activate yearly.
"Students will only be able to register one copy of each product in a 12 month period." http://www.educationsoftware.com.au/product.php?id=413
That's probably not where I'd buy it from, but I assume all the licenses are the same. Unless student and educational are different because that site says "student" copy and most say "educational" or "learning" license.

I think there is a difference between "activate" and "register".
"register" is done once per product when you first buy it and register with Adobe that you bought it.
"activate" is what you do over the internet once you install the product before you can run it.
My friend is in college and has an educational version that he's "activated", "deactivated" and "activated" many times during a 12 month period.

  • Macbooks for Students

does apple ever give free macbooks to students? I really need a new computer for my school. my pc recently broke due to its age. I wanted to know if apple gives free macbooks to students for education purposes. If not free macbooks, what about grants? i cannot afford a new computer or laptop right now because of our financial difficulty. I am currently using my friend's computer to ask this question. So, is there any way that apple gives free macbooks or grants to students?

    Joey--
Apple will offer you $100 off of computers, if your school is listed in the education store. (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/findyourschool.) They generally are not in the habit of giving away computers to students; at the end of the day they are a business, and have these people called "stockholders" that want a return on their investment.
Giving away product-regardless of need or how noble the cause-eats into those returns.
Better start saving some cash up, and/or be prepared to spend some time in the school computer lab.
    Sorry 'bout this--

  • CC for Education Teams

Is there a way to get CC for Teams for educational departments?  We are a research project at a state University and we have a team of videographers and designers.  We are trying to upgrade everyone to CC and had started with a couple student/teacher educational licenses, but would like to see the options for using CC for Teams to allow us to better manage licenses/seats.

    Hi Kartikay!
Thanks for your timely reply. In our case however the machines belong to the department, not the individual user, so would not fair use include install on the department's machines? I am certainly not trying to over parse your response or find a way around the EULA-since money is a large issue for a state institution (California State University, Northridge-I'm in the Marketing Department), I have to do my due diligence to make sure we are being as fiscally responsible as possible and it does seem to me that looked at from the perspective of departmental ownership, the install on a second workstation should be allowed. Thanks in advance for your response.

  • Educational License Questions

Okay, I know yet another post about the Education license is going to try some people's patience, but I keep encountering contradictory statements on forums and even from Adobe customer service. Plus, Adobe doesn't seem to have a web page where this is all spelled out in simple language. If they do, a link would be greatly appreciated.
These questions pertain to a U.S. resident (since I think the rules are different outside North America). I am not talking about the (cheaper) Student license as that does not allow commercial use. So here goes:
    1. I assume that while you are still a student you can upgrade under the Education license. Are those upgrades less expensive than the corresponding commercial upgrade prices?
    2. What are your upgrade options after you graduate? Can you upgrade to the new commercial version at the regular commercial upgrade price or do you have to buy the commercial version outright?
    3. Related to the last question, what happens if you graduate still holding the Educational license and haven't upgraded - can you still use PS for commercial purposes after graduation under the Educational license?
    4. What restrictions would there be on other members of the family that use the same computer as the license holder?
    Thanks.

The student version does allow commercial use in the US.
    1. I assume that while you are still a student you can upgrade under the Education license. Are those upgrades less expensive than the corresponding commercial upgrade prices?
You can upgrade the student version as well as the educational version. the upgrade prices are the same, there is no Educational upgrade. If you are a student or educator buying a new version will be the same cost as an upgrade or cheaper.
    2. What are your upgrade options after you graduate? Can you upgrade to the new commercial version at the regular commercial upgrade price or do you have to buy the commercial version outright?
You upgrade just like anyone else.
    3. Related to the last question, what happens if you graduate still holding the Educational license and haven't upgraded - can you still use PS for commercial purposes after graduation under the Educational license?
Student and Educational Licenses both allow commercial use. the difference is Students are only allowed one activation.
    4. What restrictions would there be on other members of the family that use the same computer as the license holder?
Educational license allows two activations. Desktop, Laptop. this does not mean it can be shared by siblings (Bobby get one computer Billy gets another) and you can only use one activation at a time just like the regular version. You can however let your wife or childuse the computer if you are not using it.

  • Student edition Ultiboard

Hello, I just installed the student editon of Multisim/Ultiboard. I was using the trial and everything was OK. Now in Ultiboard I no longer have the option to change trace width on the fly. I can only place lines; CTRL-T no longer works. When I bring the projects to school, I am able to change the trace width by right clicking while placing a trace or using the Drawing toolbar. I have tried checking all the options settings, reading through the help, reinstalling Ultiboard, and deleting the config files. Is there something that I am missing?

    Hello,
Multisim Student edition does not include the Follow-me Router (Ctrl+T) and you can't change the trace width by right-clicking (Widen, Narrow) or using the toolbars. However, you can use the Spreadsheet View (Nets tab) to make changes. Most likely your school lab has Multisim Educational (to check this go to Help>>About Multisim), this edition does contain the features you are looking for.
The following document contains the differences between Multisim Student and Educational:

  • What is the differences between PC Settings and Control Panel in Windows 8 and later

    Background:
I made a windows driver. I need to let the settings of it can be searched in 2 places:
1.Search box of the Control Panel page
                   2.Search box[Settings] when press the [Win] + W Keys.
Now the 1st place has been supported, but did not find out the method for 2nd place.
About Windows Search I just find out the search guide for file systems, does anyone know how to support the 2nd Search box[Settings].

What region are you in? I heard that there are no separate student and education versions anymore.
If it actually says "Education edition" somewhere then I'm guessing 1 of 2 things:
    1. "Education Edition" is just another name or title for "Student + Teacher Edition"
    or
    2. The "Education Edition" is the volume licence equivalent of the Student + Teacher Edition (which is a single licence for personal use on one computer only).
Don't take my word for it though. I'm new to all of this (looking to buy my first Adobe software products)
I'm in Australia and I can only buy Student + Teacher Edition (no Education Edition).
Did you receive a physical CD copy of the suite?
