Styles are broken in Pages 5

I just upgraded to Pages 5.
I opened a document that I'd been working on in the previous version of Pages. It has several styles, incuding a bulleted list style called "main bullet".
I attempted to apply that style to a section of text, and while it did indent the text properly, it did not add bullets. (Also, in the Style panel a bullet does not appear next to the "main bullet" style as it does in Pages 4. This was my first clue that something was wrong.)
So I went back in the text to a bulleted list that uses the "main bullet" style. I selected the text, then went to the Style panel and chose "main bullet" > update style. This did not seem to help. The "main bullet" style still has no bullet next to it in the Style panel, and when I tried again to apply it to some text, the bullet doesn't appear.
I decided to try a different style, in this case "body". I went to a section that has the "main bullet" style, selected it, and applied "body". The indentation changed, but it did not remove the bullet as it was supposed to.
Is this a bug, or do styles work differently in Pages 5?
It appears that styles do not include formatting like bullets, which, if true, is a huge problem.
I was also upset to learn that once I've opened a document in Pages 5, I can no longer open it in Pages 4. So I'm essentially stuck with Pages 5 whether I like it or not.

I have exactly the same problem but I found that Pages '09 was still installed on my system after the Pages/Mavericks update - search for Pages in Spotlight.
So, I just deleted the Pages 5 document that I had been working on and started all over again with trusty Pages '09.
You are correct styles are severely broken! How disappointing for this new, much vaunted, update.
I guess I'll carry on using '09 until Apple come up with a 5.1 version...
Other bugs I found:
1. Resizing an image so that it just fits on a page - when it jumps to the new page (because it's stretch too far) and you make it smaller to fit the space on the page, the preview stops updating so you have no idea how big it's going to be...
2. Headers and Footers don't carry over properly from an '09 document
3. Empty boxes have the word 'Text' in them rather than empty when you carry over from an '09 document
4. It is very slow to update headers...
5. Oh and did I mention styles are completely destroyed and are a BIG FAIL in Pages 5 IMO

  • The app store on my iPad looks like a broken web page?

Hi! First, let me apologise if this is in the wrong ocation. If it is, please move the thread. Thanks! (Sorry.)
    Now only the problem...
I'm no newb to technology so I'll do what I can to explain this. It's an intermittent and unusual issue, basically, and what happens is that for most of the day the app store looks like a broken web page (like CSS and images aren't loading), and I can only access it normally every now and then. But here's where it gets weird.
The PC iTunes is fine (both web and application) and loads images, behaves normally, and so on. No issues there. All sites are accessible, and I have no trouble reaching Apple servers (I've run latency checks).
    What I've also tried:
    - Rebooting my router (multiple times).
    - Closing all apps on the iPad (including the store) then trying the app store (as the only app open).
    - Rebooting the iPad, then trying again.
    - Signing out of the store, rebooting the iPad, and signing in before trying again.
    - Doing the above step but with all apps closed first.
    - Browsing on the iPad (via Maven and Safari), both are fine. No weird Internet issues.
What boggles the mind is that the PC iTunes and web version of the app store works. I mean, if I go to the web app store and look at the page for a game, I get images of the game. If I use my iPad, I get the border of the image with a [?] icon in it. (As I said, it looks like a broken web page where CSS and images just aren't loading.)
Sometimes, but more rarely, I'll have trouble connecting to the store.
And occasionally (but even more rarely) it behaves just fine.
If it wasn't for the intermittent nature of it I'd be convinced that I'd somehow corrupted the app store on the iPad somehow. But the more I think about it the more I wonder if this is my ISP somehow being ridiculous despite the web/PC application working. And currently I'm really at a loss. It's worse because when I want to sit down and browse the app store to buy some things, I can't. So this is stopping me from giving Apple money.
It might just be my ISP though. My ISP is Surfwise, if it helps. As I said, no other Internet issues at all.

    Boo. I can't edit. Sorry...
I also want to note that my iPad is -not- rooted and is quite new. And also that it's a third generation iPad.

  • V9.0.1 TG4RDB & TG4RMS .pdf documents are broken

    The Transparent Gateway for Rdb and RMS .pdf files are broken. The link is located at;
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/gateways/content2.html
The files can be downloaded OK, but when the files are opened with the Acrobat reader,
it reports fixing a broken file, then opens the file. However, all the pages are blank.
The index is present, but there is no data!
Have tried other .pdf files from this page, and they open OK.
    Please reply to [email protected]
    thanks, Andrew (Support Analyst)

Same thing here with Keynote 4.01. Pictures will not display in Adobe Reader.
Preview will display fine. Adobe Photoshop CS3 will also show the pictures correctly. In Adobe Reader 6.0 everything is there, except the pictures. This is true for "exported" PDF's as well as "print as PDF"'s.

  • Multiple DB queries to different tables are botching my page

    Hello everybody,
This one's going to be a bit difficult to explain clearly, but I will do my best.
ADDED: After posting this thread, I have been browsing a lot of forums and tutorials. I see a lot of praise for JOIN but I see nothing of lookup tables, as David Powers was so kind to show us in PHP Solutions. I like the lookup table and it works for me rather well. I'm curious as to why it gets no play yet the JOIN command does? Further, many uses of JOIN that I am seeing appear, to me as a novice, to be solveable with WHERE and AND as opposed to JOIN. Gotta go now, my temples are splitting. Cheers!
Okay, I have a TOC (table of contents) page I am working on as part of my online photo gallery. When you land on the preceding page for category selection, you have three choices. Picking one sends you to the TOC and with the associated query string value, the TOC page opens with the appropriate data.
I have eleven separate queries that collect the information to stock the page. It looks beautiful when it works, and all of this works when there is only ONE gallery presented. It's when I get into presenting many per page that the queries collide. And yes, all of the tables I will mention next are part of the main DB.
Please note, the 'names' of the tables shown are casual references, not the actual table names.
From my 'galleries' table, I pull these records using the first three queries:
    1. Total number of galleries that match the value of the query string
    2. Retrieving a subset of data (in this case, x-amount of galleries to display per page)
    3. Gallery names and descriptions
The above three queries work in harmony although I can not get the number of galleries that I want displayed on a page (if I want 3 to show up and there are 4 total, I get all 4). I do, however, get all of the appropriate data for the above and it looks fantastic.
Next, when I add any or all of these queries, the aabove-mentioned info gets botched.
From my 'galleries' and 'photos' tables, I pull these records:
    4. First representative thumbnail per gallery
    5. Second representative thumbnail per gallery (I use two, it makes the layout look nice. These are just to give you an idea of what you'll see if you select this gallery)
    6. The total number of photos in any photoset belonging to the category of galleries being displayed.
From my 'model names', 'model lookup' and 'galleries' tables I pull these records:
    7. Model name/names associated with any specific gallery
From my 'subject names', 'subject lookup, and 'galleries' tables I pull these records
    8. The subject, which is an initial set of 'categories' (used in the page header, title and some links).
'category names', 'category lookup, and 'galleries' tables I pull these records:
    9. Category name (used in the page header and title)
'photographer names,  'photographer lookup' and 'galleries' tables I pull these records:
    10. Photographer name associated with any specific gallery
'mua (make-up artist) names,  'mua lookup' and 'galleries' tables I  pull these records:
    11. Make-up artist name associated with any specific gallery
Now, if at this point, you are wanting to smack me over the head asking, 'Why are you doing it this way?' please note that I am extremely new to this and am open to suggestions that help to streamline things. Still, these eleven separate queries are all dealing with specific data types and unless there's some magical way to combine these all into one query (which to date my research has shown to not exist), I'm stuck with eleven queries.
Out of frustration, I have tried adding $result->free_result(); after my queries, but they bomb the page when I go to test it locally. What is the proper time to use this command, and what is the proper syntax?
Also, is it necessary to have more than one connection ($conn = dbConnect('query');) per page? Should I have one preceding every query? Would just one for all eleven queries do the job? I have to say, for the page that worked completely only displaying one gallery and all of this lovely data, one connection did the job. Is this bad practice?
I apologize if this is the least bit confusing. My descriptive prowess is not at all what it usually is due to woeking on this project dya in and day out...me brain is fried. However, I am making progress, but now, this is my tallest hurdle yet.
Thanks to any and all of you who can help!
    Sincerely,
    wordman

    >I'm curious as to why it gets no play yet the JOIN command does?
First of all, JOIN is not a command. It's a statement. It's a way of combining table columns using the JOIN "keyword" within the FROM clause.
    >Further, many uses of JOIN that I am seeing appear, to me as a
    >novice,  to be solveable with WHERE and AND as opposed to JOIN.
You can either use the JOIN keyword, or join tables within the WHERE clause. Both yield the same results. In the past, the only option was to use the WHERE clause, but things like outer join syntax varied among different DBMS's. Later versions of the ANSI standard introduced the JOIN keyword which standardized join syntax. But you can use whichever you are more comfortable with as most query optimizers will give the same results.
    >Still, these eleven separate queries are all dealing with specific data
    >types and unless there's some magical way to combine these all into
    >one  query (which to date my research has shown to not exist), I'm stuck
    >with  eleven queries.
If you are populating a page with data, then I assume that the data on the page is related in some way. If the data is related, then there must be a way to combine the queries. It may not make sense to combine ALL of them, but I guarantee that running 11 queries for a page is the wrong approach. Looking at your examples, it seems like this is achieveable.
I would really urge you to step back and learn some more SQL. JOINS are not an advanced topic. There is plenty of good material on the web for learning SQL, or you can find some great books if that's more your style.

  • Styles are missing when publishing to ePub in RoboHelp 9

    Good afternoon,
We are developing content for Android Tablets and have learned the customary format that we used is, well, unusable.
A few posts suggest that ePub is really the only way to go with Android Tablet Help.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2010/04/robohelp_script_to_generate_epub_format_content_fo r_mobile_d.html
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3629956
    http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/tag/mobile
    http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2010/12/epub-industry-standard-file-format-for-reflowable- content.html
So, I have published using the ePub format, but I have noticed the existing styles are ignored. In another post, it was noted to ensure that the tags are lower case. I edited the css file and made sure the tags are lower case, but this did not make any difference.
Any suggestions for what may be happening here? My best guess is there is an issue with the CSS file.
    Best Regards,
    Eric Buterbaugh

    Hi,
I ran some more tests and did some reading up, and I constantly come across the limitations of the ePub format/readers. From the ePub specification:
The CSS-based style sheet constructs in this specification define required rendering functionality. To minimize the burden on Reading System developers and device manufacturers, not all CSS 2 properties are included. A few additional properties and values have been added to support page layout, headers, and footers. These, taken together, constitute the OPS CSS 2.0 required subset.
An example about using colour in a style sheet:
Current browsers support a host of keyword color names. XHTML 1.1 defines 16 named colors, as well as numeric values. OPS style sheets may use all CSS2 forms, however Reading Systems are not required to distinguish all these colors for rendering (otherwise monochrome devices would necessarily be non-conforming, which is not the intent).
Fonts are supported in the standard (the standard says that font-family and other styling must be supported). As far as I can make out, you may choose between two things:
Use generic font description: serif, sans-serif, monospace.
Use font names, such as Arial. This however would require you to use an open type font which needs to be embedded in the ePub.
See the following section in the specification: http://idpf.org/epub/20/spec/OPS_2.0.1_draft.htm#Section3.4
The answer I can give you goes contains multiple facets:
ePub does not support all the formatting you may be able to throw at it using style sheets. A list of all supported formatting is available in the specification.
ePub readers can perhaps ignore styling even though the ePub format supports it.
Some styling, such as specifying a font, may only work after manually optimizing the CSS through an external CSS editor.
I haven't read the complete specification, so I'm not in the position to tell you what will always work, what will never work, etc. The following page has some screenshots of the same ePub on different readers: http://rufus.deuchler.net/2010/10/css-and-xhtml-tags-for-epub.html That illustrates the problem.
Sorry I can't be more help, but it seems we will have to learn to live with formatting loss in ePub. It's not Robo's fault, but it's annoying none the less.
    Greet,
    Willam

  • Can I style Web Forms Confirmation Page Results - Specifically the "ERROR" message in the results?

    Hi,
Can I style Web Forms Confirmation Page Results - Specifically the "ERROR" message in the results?
{module_webformresults} is auto rendedered as a table with CSS IDs attached but nothing specific for the ERROR message - resulting in the error not being seen.
The ERROR is triggered by a dulplicate User Name or Password.
I tried using a JQuery text selector, but it does not work with the results for some reason.
    Any ideas?
Attached is are the error results, see Username
    Thanks!
    P

    Hi Patrick,
It should work. You know the id of the specific area, you know what string to search for in order to condition the appearance of the new message.
    Kind Regards,
    Alex

  • What styles are lost when importing/converting PS text to editable text?

In CS5.5, when I import a PSD file with one or more text layers (retaining layer styles and editable layer styles) some of the layer styles change upon import.
In addition, after import, in the Comp panel, sometimes there are no visual differences between that display and the display in PS. But in individual style layers in the Timeline panel, things have changed. Most typically, strokes with gradients are changed either to a solid color (gray or red) or to a simple white-to-black gradient. How is it the display can show a gradient when the stroke layer shows a solid color?
When the text layers are converted to editable text, those changed style properties kick in.
I'm guessing some or all of this has to do with AE text not being able to have a gradient for the fill or stroke? That being the case, is there a work-around?
If this goes beyond not being able to use a gradient for fill or stroke, what are the "rules"? What styles are lost/changed upon import and when converting to editable text?

After Effects includes the entire Photoshop rendering engine, so any PSD and its layer styles should render fine (i.e., just like in Photoshop). If it doesn't, please submit a bug report.
But After Effects does not include the entire UI from Photoshop for creating and modifying layer styles.
The layer styles feature in After Effects exists primarily to provide fidelity between what you see in Photoshop and what you see in After Effects---not so that you can add and modify layer styles in After Effects. The UI in the Timeline panel is therefore a barebones implementation that doesn't include many of the features of layer styles in Photoshop. As you observe, there are many cases in which the representation in the Timeline panel is much more simplistic than what is in the Composition panel.
This separation between the UI and the ability to render with good fidelity is most apparent with pattern overlays. See this video for a good demonstration of how to use layer styles in After Effects by tapping into these features in Photoshop:

How, exactly, do they change? A screenshot would be useful.
If it's what I'm suspecting, then the page that Mylenium points you to has the clue:
"When a layer style is applied to a vector layer—such as a text layer, a shape layer, or a layer based on an Illustrator footage item—visual elements that apply to the edges of the contents of the layer apply to the outlines of the vector objects, such as text characters or shapes. When a layer style is applied to a layer based on a non-vector footage item, the layer style applies to the edges of the layer’s bounds or masks."
When you convert between Photoshop text and editable text, you're changing the render order and also switching between raster images and vectors. This can affect appearance in many ways.

  • Styles are missing in contribute

    Hi,
i have a problem that the styles on contribute 3 are missing
the styles are setted with dreamweaver on the template!
    can somobody help me
    thanks

I've confirmed that my CSS classes are showing up in the Apply CSS Class dropdown of the editor for Web Pages and for Site Editor (ICE), but NOT in the editor for a Web App item description. Initially, this was the only place I was checking which was why I thought it wasn't working at all.
Besides this, I've found that applying CSS classes in Site Editor does not work if the selection you are applying the class to is an anchor (for example, a selected class gets applied to heading tags once you deselect the text). If I have applied a class to an anchor from the admin editor or ftp then I select that anchor in Site Editor, the applied class appears as selected in the CSS dropdown, but if I try to change the class in Site Editor by selecting a different class, it does not set the class or have any affect on the existing class.
Has anyone else had these issues or found solutions?

  • Forum search links are broken

Is anyone else experiencing this? The forum search works fine but none of the links work. Pretty frustrating when you end up paging back through 60+ pages of postings to find the one you want to see.

  • Why do I have two of the same CSS style sheets on my page?

I created my index page using a 3 column layout, and I brought in one of the sample css style sheets.  Now I have 3 css style sheets for my page:
    1)  thrcolfxdhdr.css
    2)  samplegreenyellow.css (I changed the name of the sample)
    3)  level3_3.css
The last two have all the same .header .footer, etc.
When I make a change in #2 it doesn not change anything on the page.
When I make a change in #3, it does make a change.
Do I need both.  Right now I am making every change twice!  Can I delete one?  If so, which one?
    Thanks.

To see if you can do without one of the stylesheets, go to the head of your document (not the stylesheet) in Code View.
Find one of the link statements (<link href=...etc.) and 'comment it out'. If your page functions without it, you can safely remove the link from your page. If you lose some styles but not all, you will need to spend a little more time with it.
If your two stylesheets are actually identical, you can remove one with no harm done. Also remove the link and delete the stylesheet itself.
If there are slight differences (you can find them by viewing them both in Code View, Tile Vertically in the Window menu), add the differences to one of the stylesheets and then delete the other.
You might be able to compare the two stylesheets quickly in the CSS Styles Panel (but not with either link commented out) while your html page is open, but you won't see details side-by-side there.
To answer your question (in passing!), the reason you did not see changes in your page when you changed Stylesheet #2 is because Stylesheet #3...called after Stylesheet #2...cancelled out all the changes you had made in Stylesheet #2. Then when you made changes in #3, they were NOT cancelled out by #2 because #3 came AFTER #2 in being called. Precedence is what the Cascade is all about.

  • Links are broken, and iWeb won't publish to .mac

    Hi,
Just installed ilife and immediately ran update, and tried to continue editing/updating my site.
After publishing, the look of the page was fine, however, all the links to my blog entries were broken. Tried republishing, changing themes, and other to get it fixed. Still links are broken.
Now I am getting this error from .mac and iWeb:
An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/My_Page/Blog/Entries”. Try publishing again later.
Is this a known problem thats being fixed?
I hear of lots of people having problems. Any ideas? Anyone?

Well, I first took a lot out of my site by deleting from my Idisk so I could go down to a small site to be published. I checked on my sign in with .mac and discovered my husband's signin was current...not mine, so I changed that to mine. then proceeded and was successful. Hated taking down so much but it is still in Iphoto so can reconstruct.
For some reason I was getting a Publishing Error message so I would recommend checking on your settings for your .mac signin. i still am showing that I have 4.95GB in my site. I just need to reconnect some of my links and then all should be fine. Good luck.

  • What happened to styles in the new Pages?

I "upgraded" to the new Pages and now all my styles in my older Pages documents are gone. What happened? I cannot work without styles. Pages also informs me that it can no longer show facing pages. Is this supposed to be an improvement?

In answer to the last question, Yes: "Supposed to be".
In practice: No it isn't. Apple has removed 100 features and added a nest of bugs from irritating to serious.
Styles have moved to the side Format panel.
Facing pages are gone along with a lot of other features:

  • Excel ActiveX invoke nodes are broken

I am using LabVIEW 2007.  We are using a VI that runs on most of the PC's in our facility however on some the "invoke node" related to Excel functions don't operate. They are broken and the VIs won't run.  We get errors that the "Invoke Node: contains unwired ro bad terminals".  When going to select methods or properties not all of the properties are shown as seen on the functional PCs. Some of the properties are missing from the selection menus, thus making it incompatible.
Has anyone seen this problem and a solution?
    Thanks
    Manliff,

What about separating the compiled code from the source?  I recognize that this will only work in LV2010, but I expect that that will prevent the compiler from breaking activeX code that depends on a different version than the local one...
Testing this idea is on my to-do-list, but I was wondering if anyone has tried it already.

  • IPhone 4s has yahoo mail icon permanently on safari when there are no open pages

My iPhone 4s using iOS7.0.2 has a Yahoo mail icon displaying permanently on the top of Safari when there are no open pages. The icon did not disappear even when I deleted my Yahoo mail account. The icon also has my Yahoo username displayed below it. Is there any way I can remove the Yahoo mail icon from permanently displaying on Safari? I cleared my history, cookies and data, but the Yahoo icon is still there.

I have the same issue and koban4max's sugggestion doesn't work (well, it works, but you'll need to do it once a day.) I am surprised this hasn't been widely reported either as an iphone, Verizon or Yahoo issue. I tried various suggestions (deleting/re-adding account, moving messages to a new folder and changing password on computer/iphone, etc.) It will push for a while but stop pushing in a few hours or a few days. This leads me to believe somewhere in the interface corrupts the process. I would love to know if it's unique to Verizon, iphone 4S or IOS 5, or all of the above. The phone doesn't even fetch according to schedule, only when you are in the application. BTW, the Exchange push solution for Gmail works wonderfully.
