Sub-menus to Top Level Pages issue

My web site has eight top level pages, and sub-menus to those pages. Using the menus widget I set up the menus on my master page and it works fine. But I decided that on one (and only one) of the top level pages i do NOT want the drop down menu to show. When I check "Top Level Pages" (and uncheck Edit Together) on that particular menu page, Muse still applies Top Level Pages to the other seven pages — no sub-menus appear under any pages. It's an either/or situation — either sub-menus appear under every top level page or none appear. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or is it not possible to selectively have sub-menus appear under select Top Level Pages?

In your plan view right mouse click on the pages that you do not want in the menu and choose exclude from menu.

How do I reorder top level pages in BC Site Map Settings?

I created a desktop and mobile version of web site in muse and am hosting through BC. The site map settings show the pages alphabetically.
1. - Is there a way to reorder the root level parent pages other than alphabetically? I see I can add the sub-level pages under the top-level pages via drag and drop, but can't reorder any pages. As I'd like to publish the site map to my website but would be unacceptable to have it starts with a 404, Home is somewhere in the middle...
2. - That being said, does this make any difference for SEO?
3. - Also, since I have made 2 versions of site (desktop and mobile) which contain same page names, they appear to be showing as dupes in site map settings function. How do I know which is which as reorder and include on site map?

Yeah that is an issue web developers have been facing for years.
There are some work arounds that you can try:
1: Use the Tooltip Composition for the drop menus and set the transition time to a bit longer time so it isn't quite as apparent there is a secondary menu.
2: Set the menu widget to 'Manual' and add the link to the top level page to the drop menu as well.
3: Don't have a drop menu - just have a seperate template for each section that has drop menus and then in that template add a manual menu widget and add a secone menu to that template on the side or below the other menu or where ever with just links to the pages in that section.
There are probably a few more options but there is no way to really solve the problem with the way it is set up other than maybe creative menu link names. For example top level could say 'All Gizmos', then the drop menu links can say 'Gizmo One', Gizmo Two' etc.

How do you make a menu link to child pages instead of just top-level pages?

I want two menus on my pages - one along the top which links to the top level pages like About, Contact, Services etc. That's easy enough. I also want another menu down the left hand side which links to the sub pages under Services, but I can't find a way to do it. If you make the menu automatic it links to the top level pages. If you make it manual I can't find a way of adding the link to the sub pages I want. Any advice? I'm running the newest version of Muse on a MacBook Air.

I am afraid that there is no automated way to create a menu for the sub pages. You will need to create a manual menu and then use the hyperlink drop down to link the manual menu items to the pages. Select the menu item and click on the hyperlink drop down and choose the page.

How do I place a menu into a top level page which only reflects that pages child pages?

I need to create a menu for the child pages which come off from one of my top level pages. Can someone help please.

There isn't a setting that automatically does this but you can change the menu to 'manual' and enter the page names and links manually.

Resolve sub-categories to top-level category

hi,
I'm trying to resolve the top level category from a usb-category id ? I can locate the current page's category from WWSBR_ALL_CATEGORIES, but if this is a sub-category, I need to be able to find it's parent category..
any ideas?

The parent id was missing in the ALL_CATEGORIES view in version 9.0.2. This is fixed in the upcoming 9.0.2.6 release. Until the fix is available, you can modify the view definition to show this column.

Edit button not working on a publishing site on sub-level pages only (SP 2010)

When I create a top level page, the Edit button/edit page works fine with checkout and checkin. However, once I create a sub-level page - that is I create a second page within the first page then the edit button does not work and there is a message
displayed on the ribbon in yellow background:
Status:
Published and visible to all readers
I have read all responses to similar posts and tried them but problem is not resolved.
I don't have workflow turned on, I don't have content approval, yet, issue is still there.
Please help.

Pinning will not work in most devices - desktop only. To do the same in your device layouts you need to use the scroll motion tools.
To add code to the <head> tags in Muse you go to your page properties and under the meta tab you will see a section you can paste your code.
When you do push live with Business Catalyst you will be given prompts as to how to go about it.

How to Change Appearance of "Top-Level" Wiki Server Pages?

In Mountain Lion Server t is easy enough to change the appearance of our Wikis, Personal pages and their attached blogs - simply by going to "Wiki Settings...->Appearance" or "My Settings...->Appearance". This allows us to change the background pattern on pages, add a custom texture to headers, and select from a handful of preset colour schemes.
It would be nice to have that level of control over the appearance of all the pages in my Wiki, but there seem to be a handful of default, top-level pages in the wiki whose appearance cannot be easily controlled anywhere. These include the "Home" Page, the "All Activity", "All Wikis" and "All People" pages.
Is there a way to change the background and apply different colour schemes to these pages, too?

Anything is possible in the portal, however, out of the box functionality will not let you do this. Therefore you would have to create your own method of doing this.
What you could do, would be to have some form of UI that would allow the users to see what TLN entries they have, and let them arrange it however they choose. This information could potentially be stored in the /userhome folder in KM for their preferences. Then, have your own TLN iview, which retrieves the navigation entries from the navigation service, and then retrieve the personalised order from the configuration in the /userhome folder.
It simply depends on how much development expertise you have, and how much time and effort you wish to spend on this.

Top Level Navigation and Web Page Composer

Dear all,
I've a Site on Web Page Composer, and on this I've many Web Pages, so I've generated a Site Navigation. The Site Navigation generate a Top Level Navigation entry (Portal Role with External Connector), in this case all pages are displayed on a single menu entry. I would like to separate the pages on some Top Level Navigation Entries, what is the recommended way to do it? Create the pages on separated Sites and generate Site Navigation for each on?
To clarify I would like a menu structure like this:
Info (Top Level)
Page1
Page2
Page5
Customers (Top Level)
Page 3
Page 4
Page 6
Employees (Top Level)
Page 7
Page 8
And just an one site with all pages on Web Page Composer.

every Site Navigation creates only 1 navigation file that you can integrate into the users navigation.
In your case:
Role (PCD)
Folder -> Info
Folder -> Customers
Folder -> Employees
Create for every folder (that are entry points) in the role a web site in WPC.
Ex:
Web Site: Info
Web Pages:
Page1
Page2
Page5
Create a site navigation and add the site navigation to your folder Info.

Horizontal menu with one top level having pages below.

I have reviewed the answer to a similar post and reviewed the settings as shown in the image. My problem is that I want this one menu item to display the pages vertically and not drop down, and display to the right. I have tried every way of setting the menu preferences I can think of and it refuses not to impact the menu as a whole. This includes unchecking the box that allows individual edits. Can someone provide me a text procedure step by step to make my one top level menu item display the pages dropped down vertically for selection as opposed to down and right? This is the latest version of Muse. The menu widget was created by allowing it to detect the pages the way they were set in design mode.

Ok just in case any other new users to muse have the same problem with a horizontal menu needing to have one of the top level links drop down a vertical menu below. Initally in plan view I had created the top level page, and all the other pages below stacked vertically. What I did to make it display the way I wanted is to delete the pages stacked vertically and place them on the same line horizontally. See below .....

How to hide name of Role from the top level navigation of the portal

Hi Experts,
In my project, I have created 2 roles Role A and Role B. These roles have been assigned to User X.
When user X logs in, he is able to see name of role that is 'A' in the top level navigation.
As per the requirement, user X should not see the 'A'.
Rather user X should see following:
Top Level Navigation: 'My Work'
When user clicks on 'My Work', he should see
'My Sub Work1' and 'My Sub Work2'.
After that under 'My Sub Work1' user should see following
All Objects of Role A
All Objects of Role B
Name of role i.e. 'A' or 'B' should not be displayed at all at any place in navigation.
Only whatever objects has been assigned to Role A and B should be displayed in detailed navigation area.
Can you please let me know how to achieve this?

Please note that 'My Work' and 'My Sub Work1' and 'My Sub Work2) are not roles. They are just the name of folders.

Hi Brian,
Try the following steps.
1. Change the 'Entry Point' property of Roles A and B to 'No'.
2. Create a role folder called 'My Work' under A and B.
3. Set the 'Entry point' property of this folder to 'Yes'.
4. Set the 'merge id' property of the folder as "mywork" (or any other string) under both roles A and B.
5. Under 'My Work' in Role A,
a. Set the 'Merge Priority' property to 50.
b. create subfolder 'My sub work1' and create all your objects.
6. Under 'My Work' in Role B,
a. Set the 'Merge Priority' property to 100.
b. create subfolder 'My sub work2' and create all your objects.
7. Make sure the user is assigned both the roles A and B. Only then he/she can see objects of both the roles.
8. One thing to remember while merging folders is that, all the entities that are being merged should be at the same level. For eg: in our case, you cannot merge 'my subwork1' in role A, with 'my work' in role B.

Why aren't my second level pages showing up in nav bar

I have been using Muse for a while and use the menu widget. On the curent site I am using the horizontal menu widget, when I added second level pages in plan view they aren't showing in the nav bar in master view. I have only added sublevel pages to one top level page and do not want a drop down button
on ever page. Isn't Muse suppose to add the sublevel pages to the menu?

In Plan View right-click on the page > Menu Options and make sure one of the include options is checked.

Top Level Templates

Stanford University has a top level page that has sections laid out with left/center/right columns.
They also have links in the section titles entitled "See All".
How do they do this? I see no way to customize the layout of template sections into columns, nor how to add links in the title.
Any help would be appreciated.

Top Level Menus remain in normal mode when sub-menu page selected

How do I get a TOP LEVEL MENU page to stay in ACTIVE MODE when one of its sub-menu pages has been selected? Currently, when I select and is actively on a sub-menu page, all the TOP MENUS are in normal mode, thereby not indicating clearly to users where they are on site.

Muse menus don't currently support this, although it is on our list of features to add in the future.

Issue with having to declare fixed width for my top level floated LI in horizontal menu

Hi and thanks for taking a look at my problem:
I am having trouble getting my sub menus to display correctly in IE.
Originally i didn't declare a fixed width for my top level li and it displayed perfectly in all browsers except IE.
If i don't declare a fixed width for my floated floated elements, IE treates the top level li as the same width as the ul they contain (which I don't want). So I declared a width for the ul.MenuBarHorizontal li to be 80px, which is close to the minimum width that i want to use for the top level list items. However, in actual fact, the top level list items all have individually declared widths in the classes they are assigned.
How can i re-write the html or CSS so that the browser, mainly IE, reads the correct widths for the top level ist li??

Format Text tab is missing from Edit on Top Level Site home page

Hello,
Hoping for some help - not sure where to go with this.
I've been working on a SharePoint site for my company.
I need to change the top level site main page text layout to 3 columns.
I am pretty sure I was able to do this a few days ago but now when I edit the page the Format Text tab is not there.
I can get it on all my sub sites, just not the top level site.
I must have screwed this up somehow but I haven't a clue as to how to get it back.

Hi Steve,
It sounds as though the site template for your root web is a team site or general collaboration site that is using content pages stored in the sitepages library. Is that correct? If you are using publishing features than you could set a custom layout in
the "pages" tab, but it sounds as though you do not have this feature.
A workaround could be to create a new page with 3 columns, copy your homepage content to this new page and finally set the new page as your homepage.
