Substitution variable Issue

How to call substitution variable from calculation script?

Use ampersand and variable name &varname
e.g FIX (&currMonth)
where currMonth is your variable

  • Substitution Variable Issue while exporting from Essbase.sec file

    Hello All,
    I have an unusually distinct problem.
    I have 2 environments (Development and Production) where each environment has a seperate server with Essbase installed in it.
    When I tried to get information of the Substitution variables using the 'export security_file to data_file' command through MaxL and then checked the output file in Development, it showed me the right number of substitution variables and their values.
    But when I did he same with my Production environment it gives exactly 1 less no of substitution variables in the export file, specifically the last substitution variable that was updated through the Essbase Administration Console.
    I guess it is not updating the Essbase.sec file with the last updated Substitution variable. But I can't understand why since the same functionality works in development but not in production.
    Thank You.

    Hi all,
    In addition, I exported the Essbase.sec file after a long time after changing the Substitution variable and now it does show the updated substitution variable.
    I feel that Essbase does refresh the Essbase.sec file but after a long time. Is there some setting within Essbase that is done which refreshes the artifact files after a while. Or is this a setting within the system in which Essbase has been installed (in my case Linux).
    Also the Substitution Variable that has been created is for (all apps) and (all dbs). Is this the reason why this is not working because I tried changing some other Substitution variable which is for a specific app and a specific dbs and it worked fine.
    Thank You.

  • Using substitution variable in sql -- Issue

    Hello All
    I am trying to do a sql operation from command prompt of my system and that sql requires substitution variable which i am passing it but when i pass the variable ( there are two) the first one assign as " \c" and second gets both what i am passing.
    I am not sure what exactly happening here, i have done this on AIX but here its not working any ideas?
    System : uname -a
    Linux ## 2.6.18-128.1.1.el5 #1 SMP Mon Jan 26 13:58:24 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    AIX and Linux are not the same. An output of "\c" may indicate a compatibility issue of your shell script with your current command line interpreter (shell). A \c can be used to suppress a newline with the echo command. Bash understands both formats echo -n and echo \c, but other shells like Ksh don't. Try to run your script under a Bash, which is the default under Linux. If the problem persists you will need to post your script for any further analysis.

  • Issue with rule file and Substitution variable

    Hi All,
    I am using Essbase 9.3.3
    I created a rule file with 5 dimensions in which 3 dimensions I defined in columns and two dimensions I gave it as header in data column with comma seperated.
    Among those two dimension members, one is an account member with "/" in it within quotes and other is a substitution variable.
    The member assigned for that Substitution variable has a space in between and is updated within quotes in variables list.
    When I try loading data, I am getting an error saying that two members are not valid.
    Eg: "Tax/Unit",&Scenario is not valid.
    &Scenario - "Budget Q1"
    Can some one please suggest on the issue.
    I am not facing any problem in calc scripts or reports scripts using the substition variable.
    Thanks in advance

    Mark,
    Modifying the default files is dangerous and ill advised. You could always just add a style sheet (inline or linked) to your application that overrides that one setting while you wait on the permanent fix.

  • Issue with substitution variable with @MDSHIFT in BR in Calc Manager

    Hi Experts,
    We have a BR in EAS which is working fine.
    and exported to Calcmanager, now while validation it is giving error "@BaseScenario" is not found.
    the code is
    @MDSHIFT("LFLSalesIncVAT_GBP_C_DHP"->&BaseScenario->"Final"->"CD_FinalPlanPL",-1,"Year",,1,"Period",);
    if i hard code it like @MDSHIFT("LFLSalesIncVAT_GBP_C_DHP"->"P7PP"->"Final"->"CD_FinalPlanPL",-1,"Year",,1,"Period",); working fine.
    is there any limitation with calc manger and substitution variables?
    Thanks
    GP

    There seems to be many issues with validations in calc manager, does the rule run if you dont validate.

  • Substitution Variable calculation manager issue

    Hi!
    We have set an automatic update of the Curmonth substitution variable, through a batch that recalls a mxl file. It seems to work and it updates the variable both on essbase and planning. Unfortunately it does appear to have no effect on calculation manager scripts.
    Did some experience the same issue?
    Any advice to solve the problem?
    thanks.

    Calc Manager Scripts will act just like an essbase calc script. The only difference is that any changes to the script will not update the 'version' of the script in use by the application until you deploy it. I have yet to re-test this since 11.1.2.2 came out, but Calc Manager scripts do not validate when you have a subvar in them. They will have valid syntax upon deployment, and will run - but Calc Manager can not retrieve the value of a subvar. However, when the calc runs the subvar will reach out to essbase, grab the appropriate value and execute.
    It may be your script. I would pare down the script to make sure the syntax is working by replacing the subvar with its corresponding value and testing its results.

  • Substitution Variable update issue

    Hi,
    I am using Essbase 9.2.0.3. I have noticed a problem afetr updating Substitution Variable.
    The calculation script which uses the Substitution Variable works well after updating the variable.
    But the Member formula doesn't work, unless we restart the application .The member formula is in Period dimension to calculate QTD/YTD.
    Formula is: QTD=@MEMBER(@CONCATENATE (QTD,&ActEnd));
    Have anyone come across this? why the outline formula is not taking the updated value fronm Substitution Variable?
    Thanks,
    Tarini

    Hi,
    I reported this issue to the support and it was classified as: Bug 13072601: USING SUBSTITUTION VARIABLES IN FORMULAS OF OUTLINE MEMBERS.
    But as support didn't see this behavior as unusual or as a bug I went deeper and requested for enhancement. I asked them if it is possible to introduce a config setting which would switch on/off automatic updates of subs vars in outline as well as in partitions.
    Status is: Approved for Future Release, but there is no fixed version available yet.
    The ER# is: 13107378: AN ESSBASE CONFIG SETTING WHICH MAY SWITCH ON/OFF AUTOMATIC UPDATES OF SUBSVARIA
    So anyone interested can requested them for status.

    If you remove the substitution variable and replace it with the actual value (whatever that is), does the code work? That will tell you if the issue is around the substitution variable or not.

  • Problem with my substitution variable.

    My substitution variables don't prompt properly now. It worked fine before, but I don't know what I did to it. Here is the test code:
    set define on;
    connect sys/&sysPassword @&instanceName as sysdba;
    execute dbms_output.put_line('this is a test');
    When I tried to execute above lines in sqlplus, it didn't prompt anything, but got following result instead:
    SQL> set define on;
    SQL> connect sys/&sysPassword@&instanceName as sysdba;
    Enter value for syspassword: execute dbms_output.put_line('this is a test');
    Enter value for instancename:
    SP2-0306: Invalid option.
    Usage: CONN[ECT] [logon] [AS {SYSDBA|SYSOPER}]
    where <logon> ::= <username>[<password>][@<connect_string>] | /
    SQL>
    I remember when I used substitution variables before in sqlplus worksheet, it popup a dialog for input, but it doesn't anymore.
    Any ideas about this issue? Or what setting could affect the behavior? Thanks in advance.

    It would work only if you put these set of statements in a .SQL file and run that file at SQL*Plus prompt:
    SQL> @the_sql_script_created_above.SQL

  • Using a business rule to set the substitution variables

    Hi All,
    I am having issues with setting the value of Substitution variable from a Business rule.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Shakil

    Thanks for your response, John.
    I am trying to set the Substitution variable through a data form on which the Business rule is attached.
    The admin guide for Planning states that "You can set substitution variables on the Essbase server,
    application, or database level. The same substitution variable can exist on multiple levels;
    Planning uses the first one it finds as it searches in this order: 1) database 2) application 3)
    server." So I believe that it should be possible.

  • How to pass parameter [bind variable or substitution variable] to a view?

    How can I pass a parameter [bind variable or substitution variable] to a view in Oracle?
    Some will tell me that this is not necessary, that I can only pass the parameter when I query the view, but I found some case where this cause performance issue. In long view where I use subquery factoring [WITH], it's necessary to pass the parameter many time through different subqueries and not only to the resulting view.
    In other database (SQL Server, Access), we can pass parameters through query. I can't find how to do that in Oracle. Can some one tell me what is the approach suggest by Oracle on that subject?
    Thank you in advance,

    What I can do:
    CREATE VIEW "HR"."EMP_NAME" ("FIRST_NAME", "LAST_NAME")
    AS
    SELECT FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME FROM EMPLOYEES;
    What I want to do:
    CREATE VIEW "HR"."EMP_NAME" ("FIRST_NAME", "LAST_NAME")(prmEMP_ID)

Views are a form of dynamic SQL and it is hard to predict how they will perform later.
    You can't pass parameters to a view. They are not functions. The mechanism to put the values in is what you mentioned, passing the parameter when you query the view.
    In other database (SQL Server, Access), we can pass parameters through query. I can't find how to do that in Oracle. Can some one tell me what is the approach suggest by Oracle on that subject? This functionality is not supported.

    CREATE VIEW "HR"."EMP_NAME" ("FIRST_NAME", "LAST_NAME")

    SELECT FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME FROM EMPLOYEES;
    What I want to do:
    CREATE VIEW "HR"."EMP_NAME" ("FIRST_NAME", "LAST_NAME")(prmEMP_ID)
    AS
    SELECT FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME FROM EMPLOYEES WHERE EMPLOYEE_ID IN (:prmEMP_ID);Include the bind value when you use the view in a SELECT. The value will be applied to the view at run-time, somthing like
    CREATE  VIEW "HR"."EMP_NAME_VW" ("FIRST_NAME", "LAST_NAME","EMPLOYEE_ID")(prmEMP_ID)
    AS  SELECT FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME FROM EMPLOYEES;
    select *
      from emp_name_vw
      WHERE EMPLOYEE_ID IN (:prmEMP_ID);To use EMPLOYEE_ID I added it to your list of columns in the view so it can be referenced in the WHERE clause. If you don't want to see that value don't select it from the view.

  • Referencing a substitution variable in data load rule header definition

    Hi All,
    Im trying to add a substitution variable to the header definition of a DLR.
    the sub var is &CurrMonth.
    When I execute the data load I get an "unknown member error" with a list of all members in the header definition, including Oct which is my current month.
    It looks like the DLR is resolving the sub var but for some reason it is refusing to load data.
    We are on 9.2.0.1.
    Are sub vars referenced differently for DLR?
    Thanks for your help.
    Seb

    Hi Seb!
    Hope you're well. You're doing everything right with the subvars so the issue must be elsewhere. Is the list comma separated? Sorry I can' help more :(

  • Substitution variable in BR Graphical Interface

    Hi,
    we have a business rule using a prompt that we would like to change to a subtitution variable. But we can't just enter "&AnCour" (for current year).
    I didn't found any place where I could select my substitution variables (I can select prompts and local variables but not substitution variables).
    If I go to the "Source" tab and use a standard script, it works, so I'm assuming that BR can use substitution variables but that the graphical interface can't. I always use standard scripting for administration BR, but our users don't want to let the graphical interface go for their own scripting.
    Is there a way to use subtitution variables in a graphical BR ?
    We are using System9 9.3.1
    Thanks

    So it works in a calc script and not a BR, I know BR's sometimes don't always act exactly the same as calc scripts and you occassionally hit issues like this.
    What version are you using because I have a feeling I have tested this in the past and I am sure it worked.
    Cheers

  • Substitution variable in Load rule Header Essbase 11.1.1.3

    Think its obvious you can use substitution variable as a Header definition on Load rules, does version 11.1.1.3 has any issues' with it, i am running into Unexpected Essbase error 1019026.
    Error:
    Unknown member [Mgmt Actual,Base,No Vertical,No Customer] found while processing string [Mgmt Actual","Base","No Vertical","No Customer]
    Unexpected Essbase error 1019026
    I want to copy Actual data into other scenario's in ASO cube so thought will use substitution variables to eliminate duplication on load rules.
    Mgmt Actual is a scenario set thru Substitution variable at the DB level
    i.e *&CurScen="Mgmt Actual" (set at DB level)*
    Header Definition on load rule *&CurScen,"Base","No Vertical","No Customer"*
    Data load work fine If i replace substitution variable with original member *"Mgmt Actual","Base","No Vertical","No Customer"*.
    I did notice some users complaining erratic behavior when substitution variables are placed in load rule header at the End on multiple members, i have tried all places End, First and Middle.
    tried using single Load rule with EAS and MAXl same results.
    i want to keep altering scenarios on header definition and use same rule files.
    alter database AppName.DbName set variable CurScen '"Mgmt Actual"';
    Running out of ideas any help!

    Error:
    Unknown member [Mgmt Actual,Base,No Vertical,No Customer] found while processing string [Mgmt Actual","Base","No Vertical","No Customer]
    Unexpected Essbase error 1019026
    *1019026 Unknown member memberName found while processing string string*
    Possible Problems
    Analytic Services does not recognize the listed string as a member of the outline.
    Possible Solutions
    Make sure that the member name is valid. The member name is in the rules file.
    * Are you using the correct rules file?
    * Is the rules file connected to the correct outline?
    * Can you validate the rules file?
    * Are member names or variable names enclosed in quotation marks where necessary?
    * Does the member exist in the outline? If not, you can add the member by modifying the outline during the dimension build or add the member in the Outline Editor.
    * Make sure that the member is not specified as a header in the rules file.

  • Pb to setup replicated partition with substitution variables

    Dear all,
    I have the following problem with the replicated partition by using the substitution variables :
    I would like to create a replicated partition using 3 substitution variables: &CurrPeriod, &CurrWeek, &CurrYear. The goal of this is to be able to copy data from application SourceApp to TargetApp every week, by changing the subst variables.
    The script I have created is :
    login useradmin identified by password on EssbServer
    alter application SourceApp load database SourceDb
    alter application TargetApp load database TargetDb
    create or replace replicated partition SourceApp.SourceDb
    Area ' "Account1", &CurrPeriod, &CurrWeek, &CurrYear, "ND_DISTRI","ND_PAGE","ND_PROD","VT", "REEL", "EUR" ' SourceArea
    to TargetApp.TargetDb at EssbServer  as useradmin identified by password
    Area ' "Account1",    "M_N",     "S_N",     "FY1" , "ND_DISTRI","ND_PAGE","ND_PROD","VT", "REEL", "EUR" ' TargetArea
    +     mapped TargetArea ("&CurrYear") to ("FY1")+
    +     mapped TargetArea ("&CurrWeek") to ("S_N")+
    +     mapped TargetArea ("&CurrPeriod") to ("M_N")+
    +     update allow;+
    refresh replicated partition SourceApp .SourceDb to TargetApp .TargetDb at EssbServer all data ;
    The issue is that this is not working. I don’t see any data when launching the Maxl script even if the script syntax is validated by essbase. The very strange thing is that when I replace the substitution variable by members, this script works fine, I see my data in the target cube. For example if I replace the subst variables by
    Area ' "Account1", “Month1”, “Week1”, “Year1”, "ND_DISTRI","ND_PAGE","ND_PROD","VT", "REEL", "EUR" ' SourceArea
    to TargetApp.TargetDb at EssbServer  as useradmin identified by password
    Area ' "Account1",    "M_N",     "S_N",     "FY1" , "ND_DISTRI","ND_PAGE","ND_PROD","VT", "REEL", "EUR" ' TargetArea
    +     mapped TargetArea (“Year1”) to ("FY1")+
    +     mapped TargetArea (“Week1”) to ("S_N")+
    +     mapped TargetArea (“Month1”) to ("M_N")+
    So my conclusion is that there is something wrong with the syntax of the substitution variable in my mapping.
    Your help on this would be very appreciated .

    Hi,
    I have the answer from Oracle support :
    Hello,
    This is a known bug.
    BUG 7418041
    This has been documented as a known issue in Essbase Release 9.3.1.3 with the following description: "Partitioning. Using substitution variables in replicated partition mappings incorrectly prevents data from replicating. [7418041]"
    Currently the development team are working on a fix, but we don't have a release date yet.
    The suggested workarounds are to use member names (which you have confirmed work) or use a Transparent partition in place of a replicated partition.
