Substring using a string

Hi, is there a way to use substring with a given string instead of an index? Something like this: String s1 contains "This a just a test". Now I need to get "just a test" into s2. The problem is that the contents of s1 is variable so I never know where "just a test" (in this example) is placed in s1.
Roel

Yes, that's what I want to do. I'll try to explain more clearly. I have this string that is composed like this: "2002-06-07 some info 2002-06-06 some more info 2002-06-05 ..." and so on. This is 1 long string. I need to spit that string into smaller parts so I get these strings: "2002-06-07 some info" goes into string1, "2002-06-06 some more info" into string2 and so on. That's why I want to substring it looking at the dates. Since I don't know how long "some info" is, I don't know where to find the next date.

    Hi folks,
    I want to select a substring from a string

    I'm looking for the substring:
    YWY,1,YWY
    and try this SQL statement

    I'm looking for the substring:
    YWY,1,YWYWhy do you want that substring. Do you always want the last 9 characters of the string?
    If you're looking for a substring that starts with 'YWY', and then has any number (including 0) of commas, digits, and additional 'YWY' strings after it, then:
    REGEXP_SUBSTR ( str
               , 'YWY[,[:digit:]]*)
    I hope this answers your question.
    If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, maybe 5 or 10 rows), and also post the results you want from that data. Include examples of any special cases you need to handle (e.g., the target pattern is not found at all, or it is found at 2 different places in the string).
    Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data. Say what your business rules are.
    Always say which version of Oracle you're using (e.g., 11.2.0.2.0).

  • Searching for a substring within a string

    can someone reccomend a simple way to search for a substring within a string and count the number occurences of that substring.
    The substring and the string will be provided as command line parameters.
    Thanks

    A simple way would be to use the indexOf methods in String:

    Not sure what this has to do with event handling though :-P

  • Regular expression for 2nd occurance of a substring in a string

    Hi,
    1)
    i want to find the second occurrence of a substring in a string with regular expression so that i can modify that only.
    Ex: i have a string like ---> axe,afn,sdk,jdi,afn,mki,mki
    in this i want the second occurance of afn and change that one only...
    which regular expression i have to use...
    Note that ...i have to use regular expression only....no string manipulation methods...(strictly)
    2)
    How can i apply the multiple regular expressions multiple times on a single string ..i.e in the above instance i have to apply the same 2nd occurrence logic for
    substring mki also. for this i have to use a single regular expression string that contains validations for both the sub strings mki and afn.
    Thanks in advance,

    VenkatWhat do you mean by using a regex to get the index of a second substring? There is not method in Java which uses regex to et the index of a substring.
    There are various indexOf(...) methods for this:
    String text = "axe,afn,sdk,jdi,afn,mki,mki";
    String target = "afn";
    int second = text.indexOf(target, text.indexOf(target)+1);
    System.out.println("second="+second);Of course you can find the index of a group like this:
    Matcher m = Pattern.compile(target+".*?("+target+")").matcher(text);
    System.out.println(m.find() ? "index="+m.start(1) : "nothing found");but there is not single method that handles this: you'll have to call the find() and then the start(...) method on the Matcher instance, so the indexOf(...) approach is the favourable one, IMO.

  • Powershell use Connection String to query Database and write to Excel

    Right now I have a powershell script that uses ODBC to query SQL Server 2008 / 2012 database and write to EXCEL
    $excel = New-Object -Com Excel.Application
    $excel.Visible = $True
    $wb = $Excel.Workbooks.Add()
    $ws = $wb.Worksheets.Item(1)
    $ws.name = "GUP Download Activity"
    $qt = $ws.QueryTables.Add("ODBC;DSN=$DSN;UID=$username;PWD=$password", $ws.Range("A1"), $SQL_Statement)
    if ($qt.Refresh()){
    $ws.Activate()
    $ws.Select()
    $excel.Rows.Item(1).HorizontalAlignment = $xlCenter
    $excel.Rows.Item(1).VerticalAlignment = $xlTop
    $excel.Rows.Item("1:1").Font.Name = "Calibri"
    $excel.Rows.Item("1:1").Font.Size = 11
    $excel.Rows.Item("1:1").Font.Bold = $true
    $filename = "D:\Script\Reports\Status_$a.xlsx"
    if (test-path $filename ) { rm $filename }
    $wb.SaveAs($filename, $xlOpenXMLWorkbook) #save as an XML Workbook (xslx)
    $wb.Saved = $True #flag it as being saved
    $wb.Close() #close the document
    $Excel.Quit() #and the instance of Excel
    $wb = $Null #set all variables that point to Excel objects to null
    $ws = $Null #makes sure Excel deflates
    $Excel=$Null #let the air out
    I would like to use connection string to query the database and write results to EXCEL, i.e.
    $SQL_Statement = "SELECT ..."
    $conn = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection
    $conn.ConnectionString = "Server=10.10.10.10;Initial Catalog=mydatabase;User Id=$username;Password=$password;"
    $conn.Open()
    $cmd = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand($SQL_Statement,$conn)
    do{
    try{
    $rdr = $cmd.ExecuteReader()
    while ($rdr.read()){
    $sql_output += ,@($rdr.GetValue(0), $rdr.GetValue(1))
    $transactionComplete = $true
    catch{
    $transactionComplete = $false
    }until ($transactionComplete)
    $conn.Close()
    How would I read the columns and data for $sql_output into an EXCEL worksheet. Where do I find these tutorials?

    Hi Q.P.Waverly,
    If you mean to export the data in $sql_output to excel document, please try to format the output with psobject:
    $sql_output=@()
    do{
    try{
    $rdr = $cmd.ExecuteReader()
    while ($rdr.read()){
    $sql_output+=New-Object PSObject -Property @{data1 = $rdr.GetValue(0);data2 =$rdr.GetValue(1)}
    $transactionComplete = $true
    catch{
    $transactionComplete = $false
    }until ($transactionComplete)
    $conn.Close()
    Then please try to use the cmdlet "Export-Csv" to export the data to excel like:
    $sql_output | Export-Csv d:\data.csv
    Or you can export to worksheet like:
    $excel = New-Object -ComObject Excel.Application
    $excel.Visible = $true
    $workbook = $excel.Workbooks.Add()
    $sheet = $workbook.ActiveSheet
    $counter = 0
    $sql_output | ForEach-Object {
    $counter++
    $sheet.cells.Item($counter,1) = $_.data1$sheet.cells.Item($counter,2) = $_.data2}

  • How can I display special characters of NonEuropean languages (French, Italian, Spanish, German and Portuguese.) using import string mechanism

    I would like to translate the User Interface of my application to French, Italian, Spanish, German and Portuguese.
    When I put special characters in the import string file they showed up as ? (question mark)
    The import strings file includes the following parameters for each string: font, text, size and style. (but no field for script)
    In order to use a unicode font such as Arial I need to select a french script. But this option is not supported bu LabView (As far as I saw)
    A) Is there a font which is directly German/ French etc and not regula font + script parameter?
    B) Are there another required step
    s for special characters support? (When I put speciual characters in the import string file the showed up as ? question mark)

    This was discussed last week in this group- read the previous messages.
    Look for the thread "Foreign Languages in Labview"
    And recite the mantra
    ActiveX is good
    ActiveX is holy
    All Hail Bill
    Those who claim otherwise are heretics and not to be trusted
    Actually, in this case the non-ActiveX suggestions may be good.

  • The MAC signature found in the HTTP request '***' is not the same as any computed signature. Server used following string to sign: 'POST

    Hi,
    When trying with Postman sending a REST call to Azure Storage Queues I get:
    The MAC signature found in the HTTP request '***' is not the same as any computed signature. Server used following string to sign: 'POST.
    The code I have for creating the Authorization Header:
    var accountName = "my_account";
    string key = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["my_access_key"];
    DateTime dt = DateTime.Now;
    string formattedDate = String.Format("{0:r}", dt);
    var canonicalizedHeaders = "x-ms-date:" + formattedDate + "\n" + "x-ms-version:2009-09-19" + "\n" ;
    var canonicalizedResource = "/my_account/myqueue/messages";
    var stringToSign = String.Format("POST,\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n{0}{1}", canonicalizedHeaders, canonicalizedResource);
    stringToSign = HttpUtility.UrlEncode(stringToSign);
    HMACSHA256 hmac = new HMACSHA256(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(key));
    var signature = Convert.ToBase64String(hmac.ComputeHash(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(stringToSign)));
    var authorizationHeader = String.Format(CultureInfo.InvariantCulture, "SharedKey {0}:{1}", accountName, signature);
    return authorizationHeader;
    Anyone any idea what I'm missing/doing wrong?
    Additional question: do i have to create for every message I want to send a new Authorization header? Or is there an option (as with Service Bus Topics) to create a header that can be used for a certain timeframe?
    Thanks.

    One issue is with this line of code:
    HMACSHA256 hmac = new HMACSHA256(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(key));
    Please use the following:
    HMACSHA256 hmac = new HMACSHA256(Convert.FromBase64String(key));
    and that should take care of the problem.
    Regarding your question, "do i have to create for every message I want to send a new Authorization header? Or is there an option (as with Service Bus Topics) to create a header that can be used for a certain timeframe?"
    With your current approach, the answer is yes. What you can do is create a Shared Access Signature on the queue which will be valid for certain duration and then use that for posting messages to a queue using simple HttpWebRequest/HttpWebResponse.
    Hope this helps.

    while (snomedCodes.iterator().hasNext())
      output.write( snomedCodes.toString() );
    }Here you have some kind of a list or something (I couldn't stand to read all that unformatted code but I suppose you can find out). It has an iterator which gives you the entries of the list one at a time. You keep asking if it has more entries -- which it does -- but you never get those entries by calling the next() method, so it always has all the entries still available.
    And your code inside the loop is independent of the iterator, so it's rather pointless to iterate over the entries and output exactly the same data for each entry. Even if you were iterating correctly.

  • Using a string to reference a variable

    hi all,
    i've encountered an interesting scenario where i need to use a string to reeference the value of a variable...the following would show the scenario in a simpler way...
    let's say we have such function called foo:
    void foo(String aString)
    int a = 20;
    int b = 20;
    system.out.println(?????);
    now let's say i run the function as:
    foo("a")
    and i want it to return:
    20
    what should be put to replace those "?????" in my function above?
    please note that variables "a" and "b" are arbitary and so having a conditional statement like the following would NOT be useful:
    void foo(String aString)
    int a = 20;
    int b = 20;
    if (aString.equals("a"))
    system.out.println(a);
    if (aString.equals("b"))
    system.out.println(b);
    thank you very much!

    There are two possibilities here.
    The preferable one, if you have control over the names and nature of the variables, then don't use individual variables - use a Hashtable (or any implementation of Map). Your code would then look something like:void foo(String aString)
        Map table = new Hashtable();
        table.put("a", new Integer(20));
        table.put("b", new Integer(30));
        system.out.println(table.get(aString));
    }The down side to this is that you have to use Integers - Maps can't take primitives.
    If, on the other hand, you have to have variables, then take a look at using reflection. It's more complicated than using Maps, and less efficient, so I would recommend the first technique if possible.

    Has anyone had trouble using query strings in links to other web pages your personal web pages?  I have a link to another web page where I pass an ID using query string but when I click on the link I get a 404 error even though the web page exists (the link appears fine).

  • Using a string variable to create an object

    Hi, I just have a quick question. It is probably very simple but I can not seem to find an asnwer anywhere.
    I have a class called Receive, from this class I derrive 12 difference other classes.
    I also have a hashtable with a bunch of Object objects. At run time I get one of these objects according to some hastable key. So once I have this object I need to cast it to the right type (one of the above mentioned 12).
    So I know I can find out which type this object is by doing this: object.getClass()
    This returns a Class object. I then need to somehow use this class object to perform the cast. I tried everything and it doesnt seem to work. Then I thought well I can get the string name of the class : object.getClass().getName()
    So I'm wandering if there is a way to use this string to cast my object. Or maybe there is another way.
    I did see the cast() method in the Class api but I can't figure out the point of it since is returns an Object class object and not my class's object.

    I took your advice and re factored the Receive class so it had all the functionality I needed except two methods which would then be overridden in the derived classes. What I had a hard time understanding is once an object of class say SpecialReceive extends Receive it can be referred to as Receive yet still maintain that it's a SpecialReceive.
    What I mean is if I give a Receive object to some method and this method has no idea that this object is actually SpecialReceive and it calls a method say run() which gets overridden by the SpecialReceive. I thought that since this method has no idea what type of Receive this object is it will execute Receive's run(). But it actually does know what type of class it is and it executes the right run() method (the one that SpecialReceive overrides).
    After I realized this there is no more need for casting.
    Thanks everyone for your contributions.

  • Receiver SOAP Adapter Use Query String

    Hello everybody,
    I want to include in my Receiver SOAP Adapter the message id as part of the URL String, but I need to include only the MessageId value, if I use the Use Encoded Headers and Use Query String options it includes all the header fields as part of the URL, is there a way to define only the fields that I need?, thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Julio Cesar

    May be you could try to use adapter specific message attribute "TServerLocation". This will help you set the dynamic URL.
