Subtitles on a podcast?

The fact:
I have a a podcast in 16:9 aspect, at 640x360, in catalan. I use MPEG Stremclip to made a mpg4 from a mov exported from an Avid project.
The desire:
I want add subtitles in english on the bottom of the frame. The idea is full the aspect until 640x480 to make easy read it an to keep compatible with iPod, not only to see in the computer.
I tried:
I use Macaw to make a text (Is great, but is there any app better?), add it in a QT movie, move the titles to the bottom and resize. Then I have my mov with titles. All right.
The problems:
I can play this mpeg4 in QT on a computer but can't sync in iPod. The reason maybe, is the titles are a text track not avalaible for ipod or podcasting.
The solution;
Probably burn the text track with the video track will fix the problem.
The questions:
Is this a good solution?
There are another better?
What workflow is easiest to obtain it?
There are app for windows to do that? (my work is not really Apple friendly....)
Is possible put titles in others ways? (QT has option about titles....)
Is possible put chapter marks in a podcast?
Is there a web with information about titles, podcast with features, ...?
Thank You:
Any help will be great for me.

Thanks
I found information about subtitles and I tried it.
Finally I prefer make a burn of the 2 video track and text video track in one video track.
I made many exports from QT, MPEG streamclip and ffmpegx.
Most of them put all in 1 video track (640x480, H.264, AAC) like I want. But only few of them can sync with iPod 5.5. The message is "this is not a format for iPod" .
Any idea?
Thanks a lot.

  • Podcast / Vodcast combo possible with XML?

I don't seem to be having any luck generating a good feed when I added a video podcast ("vodcast") to my feed. Is having both the mp3 and m4v formats in one XML file not allowed? Maybe I messsed up the coding somewhere?

You'll also need to properly "escape" you ampersand in "games & Hobbies"
    the tag should be:
    <itunes:category text="Games &amp; Hobbies" />
You .mp3 files should have a type of "audio/x-mpeg"
The links to the files are dead. Either the URL is incorrect, the file has been removed or the filename is incorrect.

If their is anything incorrect about this then please tell me.

In the <enclosure> tag, which iTunes uses to locate the media file, you have a period at the end, after the 'mp3' - this invalidates the URL and produces a 'file not found' error, hence the 'no episodes' complaint.

  • Difficulty downloading episodes from my feed

I'm having difficulty uploading podcasts from my tumblr website through googles feedburner to itunes.
Here's the link to the feed url:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/throughthenoise/podcast

Do I put enclosure tags for every post that has a podcast?  What do I put for length for each enclosure tag?  How do I convert that from mb?  Please show where I need to put the enclosure tags because I'm not familiar with this whole process.    I thought smartcast was supposed to take care of this but I guess not.
I uploaded my files to internetarchive.org, which is like dropbox but compatible with itunes.  I linked the files from there.
Do I change the information from the source code or just the individual posts themselves with the linked audio files on my tumblr webite?  Or is that something I change on my google feedburner account?
This is the source code for my rss feed:

  • The link to my web site is old, how do I change it?

When I first started with my podcast I was hosting my blog at blogger. I have since gone with my own host and just realized the link for my web site in itunes shows the old URL of http://fierceugly.blogspot.com instead of http://www.fierceugly.com Where in the world do I update it? I checked the RSS feed to see if it was in there and it is not. I'm talking about the link on the show page where you have WEBSITE, REPORT A CONCERN and TELL A FRIEND.
This link will take you there in iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=288699848
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I just looked in my feed file and there is no mention of the old URL fierceugly.blogspot.com Here's the contents:

  • Host Parameter is null / Podcast submission

    Hi there!
I'm starting a new podcast, in the hope that it will be avaliable via iTunes soon! but I hit a brick wall when I submitted my XML/rss feed to itunes and the following error message occured...
"We had difficulty reading this feed. host parameter is null"
What does it mean and how do i get rid of it?
here is my xml file >>> http://www.intfi.in/rss/intfi.xml
    Any info wouldbe greatly appreciated!
    +The Squire+ ^_^

pyrotech13 - your feed appears to be valid.
LBesquire: there are some minor errors in your feed. The 'lastpubdate' doesn't have a timezone (and is earlier than the date of the last episode) - also your dates are variously GMT or +0100. The 'itunes:subtitle' for both episodes is too long - they should be limited to 255 characters.
None of these errors is likely to be serious. Both feeds can be subscribed to manually from the 'Advanced' menu and work OK. I can't say why submitting them is failing, unless perhaps there is a temporary glitch in the system. Certainly the error message doesn't make much sense - it would suggest a failure to communicate with your servers. I should leave it for a day and try again. Do come back if you continue to have failures.

  • My podcast feed stopped being updated in iTunes

The same podcast feed that I've been using for three years recently stopped working in iTunes, though it's still working correctly in other tests that I've run. The feed corresponds to a blog, and my blogreader shows the updated content correctly (including the podcast attachment). Yet it won't update in iTunes.
I use Feedburner and its Smartcast settings to format correctly for iTunes. As I mentioned, this is the same setup I've used for almost 100 podcast episodes spanning almost three years. I don't believe anything there has changed.
    Other steps I've tried...
    1. Subscribing to the feed directly using the Advanced menu, entering the feed directly. The subscription works (so does subscribing through the iTunes Podcast Directory).
    2. Pinging the podcast in iTunes. That also worked, as I received a successful response ("Podcast Ping Received")
    3. Running my feed through www.feedvalidator.org. This also worked, but with a message that may be helpful:
    Congratulations!

The things you've listed shouldn't prevent the podcast episodes from showing (though you shouldn't put HTML in the descriptions and summary because iTunes doesn't render it, it just dislays the HTML which looks messy).
FeedValidator can flag a file as valid even though it contains errors which affect iTunes: for example a missing <enclosure> tag tends not to be picked up, though without it iTunes won't see the episode.
Do you feel like posting the URL of your feed file? (Please include the http://.)

  • We have a new Wordpress site, how do I add a description and artwork to the RSS feed of the podcast?

    Hello:
I am surprised I could not find this on a search of Google or Apple Support.
Our church has a new website created with Wordpress.  We have all of the functionality ready to go in order to have the RSS feed work with the itunes store.
However, when we submit the feed to iTunes, it says that we need to add a graphic, as well as a short and a long description.  I believe this used to be a part of the iTunes website submission process, however it apparently now needs to be a part of the feed itself, if I am understanding correctly.
So my question is where can I find instructions on how to add this in Wordpress?
Just so you understand, I am not in charge of the site itself... I am basically doing some research on my own to help out our programmer.  I am just in charge of uploading the weekly audio.
If anyone could guide me in the right direction, it would be very much appreciated.
    Randy

Wordpress can construct a proper podcast feed, including the 'itunes:image, 'itunes:summary' and 'itunes:subtitle' tags; there will be places to enter this data but I'm afraid I can'd advise on WordPress. It does seem to have a steep learning curve as we see more problems with Wordpress podcasts than any other creation method.
Unless someone who happens to have got a WordPress podcast working happens to see your question and offer information I can only suggest that you look for a Wordpress forum or some Help on it.
Although it won't help you with Wordpress you might like to look at this page about podcasting basics: it includes a sample basic feed so that you can at least see what one should look like:

  • How can I Edit My Podcast? And why doesn't my new uploads show in iTunes?

My Rss feed is through soundcloud and I uploaded new files and they haven't appeared on my link in iTunes. Also, how can I edit my podcast page?

In fact your files do force a download - paste the URL into Safari's address bar and hit return - they will download rather than play inside the browser as they should. However they do play in the Store, so perhaps they've now instituted a workaround for that.
    Your feed is at http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:127918759/sounds.rss
There are four episodes, the latest being 25 February; all four appear in the Store and when subscribing.
If you want to amend the contents of the 'Description' column and the text you see when you click the 'i' next to it you need to amend the 'itunes:subtitle' and 'itunes:summary' tags respectively. The overall 'Description' which appears in the Store page above the episodes is carried in the 'itunes:summary' tag in the top section of the feed. If you want to amend these you will need to do so wherever you constructed the feed, presumably in Soundcloud. You cannot do so in iTunes itself, it simply reads what's in the feed.

  • Need help getting my podcast up

I have a website (nunu.com) and I have created a video for which I need to create a podcast for.
I am an idiot and can't figure this process out.
Here is what I did so far
    (1) uploaded my movie to my server
    http://www.nunu.com/PODCASTS/BRASSICACEAE.mp4
    (2) tried to create a feed.xml file
    - I downloaded a sample .xml file and plugged my info in as best as possible
    - I uploaded this "feed.xml" file to my server
    http://www.nunu.com/PODCASTS/feed.xml
When I went to verify the xml file with , I got an error.
I pasted the xml file in case anyone wanted to see it.
    Thank You

The podcast file doesn't exist. Neither does the video file, at least not in the directories that you give below. Doublecheck your directory names. Is PODCASTS really all uppercase? Generally, you should use all lowercase for paths and filenames, it makes it simpler all around.
Your itunes:image is actually in the PODCASTS directory, not the PODCAST directory. Make the image size smaller!!! 1200 x 1200 is enormous. The image is 640K. You need to keep the image size down to no larger than 300 pixels wide and tall.

  • How Do You Get Apple To Fix A Podcast?

My podcast has been broken for a long time, and it never updated after the last one i added.
My file is 100% readable, http://beavis2084.com/podcast/rss.xml

That is the URL that comes up if you add my podcast to your list and click the little "info" button.

  • How do I get my podcast to, you know, display correctly in iTunes?

My podcast is screwed up. Search for "The Toadeledge" on iTunes, you'll notice that the last 2 files are the same. The MP3 on the server and pointed to in my feed is the correct show, but iTunes refuses to listen to the XML feed and just chooses the 2nd to last show as the mp3 for the last one. I'm not quite sure why, the podcast itself is flawless.

  • I podcast artwork is not showing up for my show "Leaders in the Trenches"

I got accepted about a week ago, March 3rd, 2014.  It is frustrating that my podcast is not published yet with the right artwork.

    PS.
I recently updated my XML file using feedburner "SmartCast".
    Here is the file:

The image is correctly referenced in the feed, and there is a file at that address. It's not unusual for it to take several days after a podcast first appears in the Store before the image appears, so it's just a matter of waiting.

  • Need help getting my podcast to itunes.

Ok, I have my podcast on my .mac website and if users click subscribe it will download it to their itunes. The problem I'm having is everytime I try to add it to itunes music store it says "Error parsing feed: Invalid XML" now I'm new to all this and I'm really not sure what I need to do to fix the XML to get it to work. Hi Everyone,
I'm close to killing myself here! I would really appreciate some help!

Conclusion: Files are there and working
I have even validated the feed on feedvalidator.org - checks out fine!

When I tried http://www.film.co.at/podcast/podcast1.xml in Safari, that loaded fine, so the location seems to be ok. I was also able to check the image at http://www.film.co.at/podcast/JWLogo_Podcast.jpg so the directory itself seems to be in the correct place.
Without being patronising, I presume that the file name is 100% correct, with no capital letters, no spaces or anything else that might cause this oddity.
One more thing that crosses my mind as I type this, which keyboard did you use to type the URL in the XML file (and what software did you use for that)? I am just wondering if any characters might have a different (ASCII) value between the US English and Austrian (Geman?) keyboards.
The only other thing that sometimes affects my podcast is a proxy server or a cache but these seem less likely in this case.
