Suddenly, ALL my mail in all boxes disappeared.

I removed and re-entered my account,and now Mail looks entirely different, e.g. no sent box and a category called "All Inboxes". And I can't designate active/inactive in Settings.
What has happened?.

Deleting email from your iPad very well may delete mail from the server. Look in the mail trash, unless you emptied it as well.
The setting that does not sync your messages does not mean your mail is not synced across all your devices, only that messages are not synced via MobileMe. All your devices connect to the same mail server and, for most mail services these days, what you do on will affect what you see on the others. I am glad it is this way, I'd hate to have to delete spam messages from all of my computers and mobile devices separately. It would be annoying.

I'm having a similar but slightly different problem. My company just migrated to Gmail, and it's saving mail drafts every 30 seconds into my Trash folder.
I unchecked the "Show in IMAP" preference in the Gmail settings, but my Drafts folder completely disappeared. I went back and checked it and the folder reappeared (with my drafts still in there).
I like the idea if starting an email on my laptop and having the option of finishing it on my iPhone or iPad, so only saving Drafts locally would not be ideal.

Mail in mobileme box disappeared.

two weeks ago I found out that I lost mobileme mail in a period from October thru March. Tried to find out if it was maybe archived with a 'delete from mailbox' instruction. Could not trace it anywhere. Today same thing happens again: mobileme email vanishes. Now I have Time machine to help me out and recover the emails, but it is scary that something is driving to cleanup the mailbox without knowing what this is. The other mailbox from Comcast is untouched so I suspect it has to do with mobile me. I am using an IPodTouch to read mail as well, but infrequently.
Any idea what is going on?

Today this happened again: lost all the emails on MobileMe account. This time I am sure there was no interference with checking mail from the office or any other computer other than iPod Touch.
Switched on email. Opening an email it got stuck and after a minute everything in the mobilme inbox disappeared.
I use the iPod Touch to check email so now and then. Up until now no surprises.
Start to feel very uncomfortable that this can happen at random. Fortunately I back up on GTech external harddrive, but nevertheless. Any clue?

My new 27" IMac is intercepting all e-mails from all my devices (IPhones and IPad) and is also sending info to people I e-mail. I do not want my work e-mail (comes through on the work-issued IPad) to be intercepted by the IMac. What can I do?

Remove your work email from the Mac email app.
If you are referring to iMessages, you would need to remove that account from iMessages.

Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. There is no cache where the emails would be stored on the iPad, but you could try quitting the mail app and then launch it again and see if the emails return.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Tap the home button. Then try mail again.

All my mail disappeared from my folders!

Help! I am running Mail 1.2.5 on Mac OS 10.2.8. I was trying to setup a new earthlink POP account for my wife. I noticed that the socket number that earthlink gave me to use was different from what I had on my account settings. So I went in and changed it for my account. As soon as I did, all my mail disappeared from my inbox and sent. I checked my inbox.mbox file and all its contents are new and created at the same time I lost all my mail. Does anyone know ANY way to get my mail back? It's stuff that's no longer on the server. I just assumed once this stuff was in my inbox, it wasn't going to go anywhere until I deleted it. I didn't think changing one setting in my account was going to wipe anything out.

That did help reveal some boxes I don't use thanks for the tip, but I used to have a bunch of sub accounts that I created to sort my emails into manageable groups and these have disappeared. ANy ideas that? Regards

if you know the password of the account, i think you can also access the mail using mail client, like you use outlook to deal with your company mail daily.

It's always good to have a backup, but Snow Leopard should leave all your data intact, just install new OS components & updated Apple Apps.
If you don't have room to back everything up...
On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
For Address Book, quit AB...
Files...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
Folders...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/

Please check in the Mail preferences if you have any mail rules activated: "mail > Preferences > Rules"
If so, uncheck the rules and test if your issue is resolved in the future (perhaps by sending yourself a few mails)

My IPAD shows 182 mail in All Inboxes and in actuality there are no mail in any box.

My Ipad the Mail Ap shows 182 mail in red, when I open the Mail Ap, All Inboxes shows 182 mail but in actuality there are no mail, IPAD shows on all mail accounts NO MAIL but the number 182 is still showing, on my Ap and in every mail box.
The question is how can we delete the 182 number?

I don't use Mail, so I'm just using this to bump your msg up the line - hopefully someone who does can come to the rescue.
I do use Outlook, however, and I know that there is an option to download headers only - is there something like this in Mail?

Not fully au fait with iCloud. I don't use it. But if you have done a backup to iCloud then this might help. This reply will refresh your post thereby giving others an opportunity to comment. It sounds like you would like to transfer your mail and mailboxes from one computer to another. I recommend exporting the mailboxes from one Mac and then importing them to the destination Mac. You can find steps in the following articles:
