a couple of weeks ago, suddenly:
"F12" now opens Dashboard, NO vol control, but low background noice sounds like a radio broadcast yet it's hardly audible; F10, F11, F12 not responding as Volume control keys;
multiple instances of items in dropdown menus in Safari and Mail;
black "frames" appearing all over the place in Safari and Mail.

Auto-brightness all over the place since iOS 8
Since upgrading to iOS 8 on my iPad 4, the brightness is all over the place when I turn the screen on. Sometimes it's too bright, sometimes it's too dark. I've tried manually adjusting it in the pull-up menu but I'm not sure what to set it at and the auto-brightness is still all over the place.

MacBook Pro: I have no control of my trackpad, it's jumping all over the place ???
Pointer began moving around on it's own. I have no control over it and it makes my MBP useless. I haven't added anything new, help??
Check to be sure it is clean.
Look hard at your MacBook. Is the battery bulging? This puts pressure underneath the trackpad, and can cause it to malfunction.
Do you have a mouse plugged in as well? The mac will combine inputs from trackpad and mouse, so an additional mouse may make the cursor go all over the place. -

It doesn't give you the control over the code that most developers prefer but it could help bridge the gap for design if that is what you are looking for.

My cursor is moving all over the place and it is almost acting like someone else is controlling the track pad. When I was opening and deleting mail this morning and I stopped on an email I wanted to read it went ahead and deleted it and all the others that hadn't been opened yet.What should I look at to fix this problem, I already tookk it to a computer repair that couldn't find a virus of any sort. And, it sometimes works fine.

Have you tried adjusting the tracking and scrolling speeds for the trackpad? You can find that in Sys Preferences.
You may also want to reset the PRAM. To do this shutdown the machine. Hold down with your left hand the option and command keys, power the machine on and immediately with your right hand hold down the P key with your little finger and the R key with your index finger, so you have the option+command keys and the P and R keys held down, wait until you hear the Apple chime twice then release all keys, let the machine boot up. Try this and see if it helps. If you contiune to have this issue I would suggest taking it to the Apple store ASAP and have a Genius remedy this issue. Hope this may help.

Music library after data recovery - ID3 tags all over the place
Hi,
For a short time there i was using my external drive as my music library, while i sorted enough space ot run it from C:
However, that didn't last long and i was asked if i wanted to reformat the drive.
Using Easeus I was able to recover the mp3s. But they're all over the place i.e songs labelled as one thing will be something else, about 70% of the time. Also some songs randomly chnage to others.
Is there any method i can use to resolve any of this, without re-doing my entire collection?

Failing that, are you certain that the tags are wrong in the actual files, the tags are part of the file, so I am surprised if they were changed if you were able to recover the files successfully. It is hard to see how they could be messed up if the file is OK unless something else messed with them.
I am afraid you have a lot of work ahead of you. You might be able to use a tag editor to get tags from the internet - MP3 tag is an example, but I think the tracks need to be arranged into CDs for this to work.
There is also something called PicardTagger which is supposed to use the audio footprint of the file to identify it, but I have no experience with it myself.

I have a comment. I am very upset with Photoshop and all your tutorials regarding the quick select tool. I have watched many tutorials and read instructions until I am blue in the face. This tool does not work. It is all over the place and all of your tutorials make it look so simple. How can you advertise this as a viable tool when it just doesn't work?

Concluding something does not work because you fail at using it is not necessarily always justified.
The Quick Selection Tool certainly has limitations, but your post seems to be more about venting than trouble-shooting – otherwise you might have posted an image where you failed to get an expected result. -
When in organizer how do I keep my cursor from jumping all over the place?
When I am working in Organizer 12, My cursor jumps all over the place and the screen keeps repositioning itself. It is infurating and I can't get any work done. New desktop iMac using Marevick 10.9.1 and wireless mouse and track pad both slowed to lowest level. Also tried using a tethered mouse but no different. Anyone else have this problem. Is it an Apple problem?
Is it a 'Magic Mouse'? If so that's why, there are many reports that it is badly behaved in the Elements Organizer. If not, do you have another mouse you could try it with (to rule out a hardware problem)?

When I exported my video (all stills), the images are all over the place. I had adjusted the postition (X & Y) for each one, and when I exported the video, the stills are not staying in one place, but are coming from different angles and different positions. How can I fix it so that when exported, it plays as it does on my Viewer?

Safari bookmarks are all over the place on my iPhone 4
My Safari bookmarks are in folders on my MacBook, but are all over the place on my iPhone 4. Some are in folders, some out; some missing, some duplicated, some pages that aren't bookmarked but are visited. How do I get the iPhone to look like the laptop?
I deleted the bookmarks on the iPhone but they went right back when the phone synced with iTunes.I suggest you update to iOS 6.1.3 and try again.

I have a three month old MBP. I often browse the forums to inform myself on what's up before it happens to me. I found out about the battery update that way, and did it. I read about the possible problems that may occur, but I am not sure my problem fits - or if it even is a problem.
My battery used to last for a really long time - 4 to 5 hrs. Now it doesn't. I usually only use my MBP for surfing and occasionally downloading music or movies from itunes (haven't done that since the bat. update tho).
After experiencing shorter and shorter up time, I decided to really keep an eye on it this morning. Last night I got the message that it was running on reserve power, (and I was too) so I plugged the power cord in and shut it down for the night. This morning I unhooked the power, started it up and the time left read 5:32 for about a second or two and then read 2:32. I used it for a few minutes, walked away - the display went to sleep - I woke it up and it read 4:50. After that I let the display sleep several times and every time I woke it up I got a different reading - all over the place. 6:xx - 3:xx -4:xx and so on. I then decided to browse this discussion area and couldn't find exactly this scenario. I have been on for about 15 minutes and the time has stayed within a range of 3:05 to 2:42. I am going to let it go into full sleep and come back to finish up this post. Oh...by the way:

But where has my battery life gone? I guess what it says now is a true reading, but since I have only had the computer unplugged from the power for about 1.5 hours, and it has been used for only about 25 minutes, isn't this a short period of life? It used to sit practically all day on battery power only being used once in a while. I am going on vacation in two weeks and I don't think this battery will even get me through one dvd movie on the plane - on a three month old computer! Any thoughts?

The two cruical numbers for the estimate of the time remaining are the remaining capacity and amperage. If you divide capacity by amperage you will get the time estimate.
These values update relatively slowly - about every minute or so. This can lead to weird values when your computer changes its activity quickly.
Thus, right after you wake the computer up or reactivate the screen it is likely that the amperage will be low (because it doesn't use much power in sleep mode or with the screen off) and the time estimate will be high. Similarly, just after you unplug the computer the amperage estimate will be low (because it is just the amperage drawn from the battery). I have seen estimates of over 200 hours right after I unplug the AC. But as soon as it updates it all sorts itself out.
Your battery seems to be behaving normally and 5200mAh seems about right for a 15" MBP battery. They start at around 5500mAh and decline from there. Apple suggests that you should get around 300 cycles before it drops below 80% of initial capacity (4400mAh for the 15" MBP battery).
The number one hint for getting longer life out of your MacBook is to turn the brightness of the screen down. That is typically the biggest drain on the battery. -

Have a problem with symbols appearing all over websites, it started with my hotmail getting corrupted (doesn't affect functionality) but when I open up websites I get what I think is Marlett font all over the place (just noticed it where 'header' should be on this page!). The font list has Marlett missing and just a string of symbols instead. Also I've tried downloading 4 seperate anti-virus programmes and I can't open any of them.
There doesn't appear to be any help on Google for this problem on a Mac so - any suggestions? I'm just a button-pressing monkey so any solution which needs anything more technical than a kick I might be struggling!

When i design my web page it looks fine on the screen but when i veiw it from a computera smaller screen size everything just goes all over the place, e.g. the title goes onto the next line and images move around.

Video Dimensions all Over the Place
Hello there,
First off you'll have to excuse me as I'm pretty new to the whole video side of things. Well the problem is, I've created a DVD which is supposed to go to a client fairly soon - and the problem is while viewing it the screen size is jumping all over the place. I have video elements provided by clients which i imported as timelines, i have menu's with static backgrounds and i have timeline menu transitions which are dynamically linked from after effects.
The only part of the dvd that appears full screen (16x9) is the dynamically linked transitions. They are 720x576 D1/DV PAL Widescreen and are set to 16x9 in encore (greyed out).
The video stuff from the client is 720x405 Square Pixels set to 4x3 in encore (greyed out). This appears letter boxed and pillar boxed.
The menu stuff is 720x480 D1/DV NTSC Widescreen set to 4x3 in encore. This appears letter boxed and pillar boxed.
After reading what i've wrote in my last few sentences, i can now see the problem is because nothing is the same! So the question is more now what i do to correct it. Do i resize the client video and the menu images to 720x576 D1/DV PAL Widescreen? And if i do this will it crop the video or will it squeeze the video etc. on a 4x3 screen?

It may be possible, but not with Encore - a menu is either full 4:3 or full 16:9, but not both. Similarly, 16:9 video from Encore will play back letterboxed on a 4:3 screen.
An additional note: not all commercial DVDs behave in the way you describe - sometimes menus are either 4:3 or 16:9, but not both, and nearly always 16:9 video is displayed letterboxed on a 4:3 monitor.
