Suddenly, My Safari 5 doesn't auto-complete at the same time "Search By Image" became useless . .

Since assigning where to post questions amongst the communities here as gotten more complicated, I've had a few questions go unanswered . .  unlike in the past . . .
But I'll give it another shot with this one :
A few days after Google brought back the black bar for "search, images, maps" etc., I tried to use my Bookmarked "Search By Image", which always started a series of drop-downs and led to choosing the image, and then working just peachy.
Now there's a grey-box to the right of the Google search-bar which does absolutely nothing !
Where to I indicate or paste the image now ??
The same day, entering in a regular Google search brings up no suggestions 2 or 3 letters in . .  or at no point till typing is complete and 'search' is clicked.
And now ?? . . . even coming here was snafooed by "Jive has detected Internet Explorer 6" ?!?
Retrying a moment later got me here, where a new line entered is suddenly being placed a paragraph above where I'm typing !
Seems like a whole bunch of goofy goin' on all of a sudden, no ?
I really just want help with the 1st 2 bug-a-boos, but the whole conga-line of weirdness has me wondering if we're getting hacked all over !
or what !
I'm on Safari Version 5.1.10 (6534.59.10)
OS 10.6.8

Hi ...
In case you are not aware, Apple no longer updates Safari for Snow Leopard >  Apple Kills Snow Leopard: OS X 10.6 No Longer Receives Security Updates
Thus your Mac does not provide anymore security updates for Snow Leopard.
You may want to consider upgrading to a newer OS X if your Mac qualifies.
As for the Google issue ... try emptying the cache and deleting cookies.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select the following:
Remove all website data
and Clear History
Click Reset.
Then quit and relaunch Safari to test.

    Hello, thanks for replying.
Yes they just copy to the next page, the fields are the same. The document is an observation to school lessons so it needs to be consistent but with different data on.

  • Yosemite updates both available and complete at the same time

I can open the app store and see the pending updates and click on them but it says "Installed" even when they're not. Furthermore, some actually are installed (like 10.10.1) and others are not (like Safari 8.0.2). After clicking on an update it says installed in the history below but also still stays in the available list regardless of which actual status is true (hedging their bets?). I went through the old usual suspect places looking for package receipts but other than in my local App Store folder in Application Support there don't seem to be current receipts, or at least moving them has no effect (the history file has an effect on AppStore.app and removes the history but the problem remains and it gets remade and updated when I try an install again. This is now happening for all new Apple installs.
I have tried looking for receipts and tried reinstalling Yosemite to no avail.
It would be nice if I could clear the completed updates and actually install the ones that aren't. But I'd be perfectly happy to reset it so that it just tries to update anything.
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Back up all data. Quit the App Store application if it’s running. Test after each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Updates
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Move the contents of the selected folder to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 2
Do as in Step 1 with this line:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Restart the computer. If there's no change, quit the App Store and restore the file you moved from your backup, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, recreate your settings in the Software Update preference pane.
    Step 3
Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
              Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
              Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
              Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.*.plist
              Saved Application State/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.savedState
Here, * stands for a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes.
    Step 4
Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

  • Safari and Software Update break - at the same time

a 2.4Ghz MBP with 10.5.6, Firefox loads web pages fine but Software Update and Safari never run, under any circumstance, even on fresh accounts on the machine.
    Tried:
    a. reinstalling Safari from the retail Leopard DVD
    b. DU run permissions and verify disk
    c. drag copy a running Safari app from a known similiar working Mac laptop
    d. delete every Safari related folder on the affected account
Im installing this from an image I made on a MBP of similiar vintage, imaged with the Apple retail Leopard DVD
Any ideas why Safari wont repair ?

    HI Chris,
For Software Update, try deleting this file. com.apple.softwareupdate.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac. Go to the Apple Men/Software Update... and see if it works as it should.
For Safari, try deleting this file. com.apple.safari.plist Same path as before. If that doesn't help...
If your Software Update is working now, try downloading and installing the 10.5.6 combo update, even though you are running 10.5.6 already. http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10-5-6_ComboUpdate
*"It includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac."*
Run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions after the update.
If you still can't use Software Update ...
Perhaps an Archive an Install is needed.
    To reinstall Mac OS X:
Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select the destination disk, select your current Mac OS X disk (in most cases, it will be the only one available).
Click Options. *If you want to save your existing files, users, and network settings, select “Archive and Install,” and then select “Preserve Users and Network Settings.”* If you want to erase everything on your computer and reinstall Mac OS X, select “Erase and Install.” You can’t recover erased data.
    Click Continue.
Click Customize to select which parts of Mac OS X you’d like to install, or click Install to perform a basic installation (recommended).
Note. You can only reinstall Mac OS applications from the machine specific disk(s) that came with the iMac.

  • Auto-complete for the email addresses in the mail app is not working

Hi, could somebody kindly help, please?
I have just got a new iphone 5s after my old 5 got broken. When I got the new 5s one I had to restore everything from the back-up copy I had on my ipad or in my icloud, whatever.
The problem is that in the standard mail app which you have at the bottom of the screen auto-complete for the email addresses is not working on this new iphone. However, it still works on the ipad.
Can I turn it on somewhere or is it a bug? I remember When my old iohone was new as well as the ipad and ipod, I did not have to turn on anything. The recent email addresses list (appears when one starts to type an address in the address bar when writing a new email message) appeared automatically. And on this phone it doesn't appear at all. It doesn't suggest me any recent or whichever email addresses and I am really lazy to type an address each time.
    Could this be solved?
Many thanks in advance for the eventual help.
    Olia

I am also getting same problem...................anybody please help.

  • Safari will not load completely, just the top line

safari will not open completely, just the top line appears. I have an Imac oper at 10.5.8

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

HELP! Safari 5.1.10 on OSX 10.6.8: All of a sudden in the last few days, when Safari is launched it is trying to load hundreds of pages at the same time, hanging up the whole computer. What the heck happened?

I misunderstood the settings. A few days ago I had tried to set it to open a specific page upon launch, and set "New windows open with: Bookmarks" instead of ":Homepage"

When my Ipod touch is in autolock I can only restart the device holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds.  While in auto-lock it is using battery power and will do so until the battery is drained.  Whats wrong?

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Connect the iPod to your computer and try to restore via iTunes. Try placing in Recovery mode if necessary to restore.
    - If you can't turn the iPod completely off, let the batter fully drain. After charging for at lerast anhour try again
    - If still not successful time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Error submitting tasks: Operation could not be completed within the specified time

I've created a Batch Application and I'm having an issue running a job.  Its suppose to synchronize 2 azure blob containers.
In my JobSplitter, I compare 2 azure blob containers and find the files in the first container that need to be copied over to the second one.  Just figuring out which files to copy over can take about 5 to 6 minutes the first time this is run depending
on the number of files that need to get copied over.
Once we have the files that need to be copied, we group them into sets and create a task for each set.
The exe that the TaskProcessor runs doesn't do anything just yet. All it does is write the arguments sent to it into a file. Nothing major.
On the last run, about 900 tasks were created. Four of the tasks completed successfully. I can download the output files for them just fine. The next 4 tasks failed with an error.
Looking in the JobLogs, I see this:
    The job orchestrator finished
Failed to process job ac8dd4a3-d882-4ec1-847d-48844fa3e1f4: Error submitting tasks: Operation could not be completed
within the specified time. RequestId:27eab612-c8ce-4e4b-8dfb-00e7024c71ec Time:2015-01-29T00:37:03.5943898Z
    Has anyone seen this before?
    Thanks,
    matt

This error is usually a transient error, typically related to an internal storage timeout.  We're working on a fix for it.
In the meantime, if you go into the Batch Apps portal, select the failed job and click Reprocess in the command bar, Batch Apps should re-run the failed tasks and the not-run tasks.  (Note that the tasks that already succeeded will not be re-run, and
we will not re-run the job splitter to create new tasks.)
Please let us know if you continue to see this problem or if reprocessing the job doesn't work for you.

  • My iphone 4 locked up for several hours. i then tried to reset by holding down the home button and power button at the same time for 10 seconds and then the home button for 10 seconds. it is now completely black. what do i do? couldnt restore it in iTunes

My iphone 4 locked up for several hours. i then tried to reset by holding down the home button and power button at the same time for 10 seconds and then the home button for 10 seconds. it is now completely black. what do i do? couldnt restore it in iTunes. Has anyone had this problem? Help!

Same thing happened to me today. I wasn't even using the phone for the past 6 hours and suddenly I can't connect to the internet, none of my internet apps would work - nothing. I tried to call AT&T from the iphone and it locked up - couldn't turn it off, change to the home screen - nada - brick.
Did the Home/Power button thing and that worked but this I've only had this phone for about 4 weeks and it's locked up more times than my 3GS did the whole two years I had it! Ridiculous

  • Holding 'select' and 'menu' at the same time doesn't help. What now?

First, the only thing that would happen when trying to turn it on was that it would show a message with the Ipod support website but nothing else. Now it doesn't even turn on. Pressing 'select' and 'menu' at the same time doesn't help and it is not on Hold. Any ideas or is it just dead?

I have the same problem, only not so far gone. My iPod keeps showing me the logo for a couple seconds, then a red X that tells me to go to apple.com/support. I have been here several times and tried the five R's and nothing has worked. My iPod is also charged and the hold isn't on. My computer isn't recognizing that it is hooked up, my warranty is up and this is my second iPod. My first one's death was completely my fault, but I did nothing to prompt this lock down. I am about ready to try some of the risky hints online to get it to work but I would like something less extreme than taking the thing apart.

  • After running Appstore, the iphone cannot auto shutdown after the predefined time

After running Appstore, the iphone cannot auto shutdown after the predefined time.

Pressing the Home button only quits the selected application only. Doing so with Safari available will quit Safari, but this does not reset the iPhone.
The only way to Reset an iPhone is by pressing and holding the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.
No apple stores in the area but my sister and mom are going to an area where there is one so I guess I'll give it to them to take along and see if they can swap it out for another or fix it.
You must make an appointment at an Apple Store, so unless you are able to do so and unless you are able to go with them (especially if an exchange might be involved), I suggest giving AppleCare a call instead.

  • I was backing up my iPhone and importing photos onto iPhoto at the same time , then suddenly it says no more space available (i had 48GB before i do this and now i have 18GB) i can't find the back up or the photo anywhere , how can i delete them ?

i was backing up my iPhone and importing photos onto iPhoto at the same time , then suddenly it says no more space available (i had 48GB before i do this and now i have 18GB) i can't find the back up or the photo anywhere , how can i delete them ? i dont need the pictures or the back ups , i want to delete them but they are not there

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • How do I keep more than one safari page open at the same time?

New to Mac.  I'm used to being able to have several applications open at the same time, and able to check emails, eBay, camera for downloading photos, etc., but when trying this on Mac, I can't seem to figure out how to swing from email to something else....oh, it opens up eBay and other pages, but not where I left it...I have to keep starting from the beginning...name, password, etc.   I can't have 3, 4 or 5 safari pages open at the same time??  This is making my life cumbersome, and running back to the basement office and using my dying Dell desktop where life was a bit simpler.  Sometimes I need to copy a few paragraphs on one website into another....and its taking me way too long to get this done.  I know there's a way of doing this on Mac....

    Hi Suzkas,
I was new to mac a short time ago and I had frustrations in the learning curve especially as I was so used to working with PC.
If you look at the top left of the screen you will see the words SAFARI next to the apple logo. if not then either open safari or click on the window and the mac will then show safari at the top. If you now click on FILE you can select NEW WINDOW or NEW TAB as you wish. I often use new tab and switch between them. If you go to VIEW and select CUSTOMISE TOOLBAR you can drag an icon to the top of the safari window and you won't have to keep going to the menu to add a new tab. I will sometimes select new window to keep something separate from my other work.
If you close down a window you will often lose your place, but using the tab system you will leave the window active unless you select the cross to terminate. If you have a separate window open you can select the orange blob (between the red and green at the top) and the window will slide down to the dock and stay there, active, for you to return and continue.
Hope this help, stay with it, go see the instore staff and pretty soon you wont look back
PS I have PARALLELLS6 running with a copy of windows 7 on my mac. This means that I can switch to microsoft if I want to. However, with office for mac installed I rarely need to now, the only time I ever open windows is for an application that has no mac version.

  • Can I open two Safari windows at the same time?

Can I open two Safari windows at the same time and split the windows in two on my screen? Right now, I have to open Safari and Firefox to get the split screen. I know I can press command to get multiple tabs, but that's not what I want. I want to use Safari on two open windows.

    HI,
Open a browser window in Safari. Then Command + N
Press command and ~ or ` to toggle between the windows.
