Suggestion and Comments for a w530 unit

Hello Everyone,
I've been using macbookpro for almost 4 years, and since I heavily use AutoCad, Sketchup and Lightroom on a daily basis it has been a bothersome to rebooth from one OS to another. I have been looking at the W530 for quite sometime and decided to make the swtich. I hope someone can enlighten me on how to go about the purcahsing of W530. From Lenovo site, i intend of getting this specification and minor upgrade of some specs:

Questions:
1. If in case, I need to add additional ram, would it be okey to just buy an additional 2 pcs of 8GB of Corsair Vengance, or do i need to buy a new 4 pcs of 8GB? so the total ram would be 32GB. Or would it be wise to just get the 32GB of Ram from Lenovo?
2. I plan to use the 500gb HDD in the hard drive caddy and use the msata and 2.5" ssd for primary drive, What would be the best way to copy the Windows and Lightroom from the HDD to msata drive (256gb adata)?
3. How come some unit with the w530 comes with a color sensor option and the higher w530 specs does not? would it be wise to get the Color sensor/ calibration from Lenovo or Just get other calibration software? and can you suggest in your experience a good calibration software for w530?
4. and lastly, does all w530 whether it be lower end specs or high end spec has a msata connection? Sorry of the ignorance.
Really sorry for a long post and questions. I hope someone could enlighten me before i purchase this unit. Any suggestions and comment would be highly appreciated. Thanks

I'm almost in your same boat; used a Macbook when travelling for AutoCAD and I just ordered a W530 (should arrive Thursday) after a long period of agonizing of the purchase. I'll update this thread once I've used it a bit if you'd like, but I have some comments on your post:
1. My understanding is that RAM works best when all sticks are of the same capacity. Personally, I ordered the W530 with the least RAM possible and am replacing all factory with Corsair Vengance.
2. Use drive cloning software.(check out this site: http://lifehacker.com/5839753/the-best-disk-cloning-app-for-windows). I'm eschewing the mSATA and going with a 500gb SSD (found the Samsung 840 for $279) as the main drive with the 500gb HDD in the ultrabay (mSATA slot vacant). Why do you need the hard drive caddy?
3. Not sure. I didn't go top-of-the-line as you are so my config had the color sensor option.
4. All have the mSATA.

Introduction
The X company has some bank accounts in different banks, also it’s customers may have more than one bank account in different banks. Transactions between the X company’s bank accounts and it’s new or regular customers’ bank accounts happened heavily in daily. Bank transfer records in paper form will be collected and need to be entered into an in-house Financial System(NX1) of the X company every day.
This module will implement the function of Entering Bank transactions records for NX1.
In future, this Data Entering work for NX1 will be handled by some data exchange interface automatically.
And the following implementation will be based on ORACLE XE 11g, Jdev/ADF 12c.

What you are up to?
First of all, I need to make some introduction of myself to answer “what you are up to”.
I come from China, living and working at Shenzhen city which is close to Hong Kong. And now I am running a small software company with 20 employees, our main business is to develop database centered applications which include in-house workflow/information management systems and websites/portals for organizations.
I have a pretty strong conviction that software technology should emancipate people from routine trivial mental works, just like engines in the industry revolution free people from heavily physical works. So I have a strong inclination for everything to be “automated”.
For running a company, this “automation” will not only bring the “aesthetics of everything running by itself”, but also will mean more productivity, quality and profits.—After all, no-living stuff is always cheaper than living creatures, let alone to say human beings.
However, when we software industry tried to automate business fields for our clients, the process of making software itself was still a manpower intensive, less-automation business. and this result a expensive products.
More than 15 years ago, when I began to work in an IT department of a big organization, I got to know the Oracle Designer/Developer 2000, and have being a diligent FORM/REPORT programmer for more than 4 years. I like the concept and practice of declarative design and automated generation.
And then more years past, and I left that organization and began to run a software company myself. And during these days, the mainstream technology of software development had been web oriented, Java/J2EE which I had no idea totally. But we have other guys who had expertise on it. So I just leave these works and decisions to them. And it seemed works at the beginning.
But after several years of business operation of application development for clients, I found this was a difficult-money-earn business. Even if our guys had worked hard, project schedules’ delay, over budget, clients’ complain was easily happened. Sometime we had more projects/contracts than what we can undertake, but we dare not to hire more people. I was confused:
-Was it a common situation in this field all over the world?
-What’s the key factor should responsible for?
-Where to start to improve the situation?
I know there are many factors should responsible, it’s a complex situation. Find more talented people and give better incentives for them to work hard is one choice—but it’s also a difficult task especially for a small company like ours. So to start from easy and confine solution’s scope is:
-We have these guys now, what we can do best?

Seeking to fetch thcorrect sales text and comment for a material number

Ladys and Gents,
Currently I have the problem to fetch correct sales text and comment text on the data base for a certain material.
For this purpose Ill can use the CALL FUNCTION 'READ_TEXT' as bellow which works quite good. I just have to call it two time, once for the sales text and next time to fetch the comment text. But first I need to know for which languages a sales text is maintained before I call this function and give the language as an input like E. I would be very thankful for any comments.

Suggestions and comments

First, I am appreciative and encouraged by all of the administrator comments: it is very satisfying to know that posts and suggestions are being read by real and friendly people.
Second, I understand the need for revision so am more than willing to put up with "growing pains".
I don't really miss the point system (I never posted for points: only to get answers or to give them), and I don't care if "levels" are awarded (I was a level 3 prior to the revision), but I really would like to see the TOTAL number of posts that a discussion user has made since joining the forums (posts prior to the revision as well as after). This doesn't seem like it would be too hard to do or put too much strain on the system. But it would be (was) a good measure of how much "experience" a user had. Hopefully the old numbers are still available.
I do miss custom avatars, but I understand this may be too much of a strain on the system and is really not necessary.
Finally, thanks for providing and maintaining this wonderful service. It's saved my sanity more than once. I've done my best to pass on what I know in return.

Levels are still there, but they are not posted because of performance problems. Features that were removed because of performance problems may be re-introduced after the first of the year. If you were a Level 3 in the old system, you are still a Level 3 (unless you have since met the requirements for Level 4).
Total post counts may not be possible with the current version of the forum software (this is my guess) - they have been working on migrating the cumulative counts over from the old system, but they have not appeared yet.
Custom avatars are not possible with the current version of the forum software. It is a feature the publishers of the forum software have planned for a future update/upgrade to the software.

Suggestions and enhancements for iPhoto 8

a) Keyword management. iPhoto 8 is much better than 7, however there should be a way to type in (not select from a list) keywords for multiple selected photos. Just like Keyword Assistant. I need to quickly tag a large amount of selected photos, and clicking the scrollable keyword list is too confusing. Keep the scrollable list, but do provide a typing box to quickly jump to the desired keyword. E.g. typing "L" "o" should bring up London and Los Angeles very quickly.
b) Shrink photos. I shoot photos at maximum resolution, and then drop the resolution of the not-so-good pictures, or those that I have no intention of enlarging. The good ones, I keep at maximum resolution. I have created a shell script which wraps around Apple SIPS (Scriptable Image Processing System) command-line to reduce the megapixels of the photos that I want to shrink. I do this in 3 stages - 1. using applescript, generate a list of photos with the full file paths, 2. using jhead, determine the EXIF resolution of each photo and add it to the list, 3. using a shell script, use SIPS to reduce the resolutions of these photos. It would be nice to see this function built into iPhoto itself, with a choice of dropping the resolution to 6 MP, 4 MP, 3.2 MP, 2 MP, etc. It should be able to tackle landscape and portrait orientations automatically.
c) CDs for non-Mac (Windows, Linux) computers. The current procedure, to export the photos to a file folder and burn them wastes too much space, and is a work-around. iPhoto should be able to do a simple folder-wise burn to CD, without keeping any library metadata
d) Photo portability: Embed comments, titles and keywords in the EXIF data of the photos itself, so that the photos become extremely portable. In case the library metadata is destroyed, it is easy to get back information from backed up JPGs itself. Also, exporting to web albums is easy and preserves more metadata.
e) Library database: It is time to move to SQLite and drop the clumsy XML format. Please please please! Just like Mail.app.
f) Movie clips during slideshows: Allow playback of movie clips within the iPhoto slideshows. Right now, the only way to do it is to pause the show, have QT player open on the side, show the clip (in non-fullscreen) and then come back to the show. *****.
g) Calendar based photo selection, e.g. what photos have been taken in the month of April 2007? Or what photos taken on June 22nd 2007. Please bring the feature back from iPhoto 7.

Um, this happened back with v6, that's what the main database file is (library6.iphoto). The xml file is what other apps read to integrate with iPhoto.

Not what you want to hear, but this is currently available in PhotoPresenter.

I know, I know: everybody's an editor, but how about this?
To create a PDF from FrameMaker make sure that you have installed the Acrobat Distiller printer instance. This is NOT done by using the Add Printer option found in Start > Settings > Printers. Instead:
1. Download the latest Adobe Universal Printer Driver Installer from Adobe.
2. Make sure you have the latest PPD file available. You will be asked to find it during printer installation.
3. Double-click the .exe file to install the driver you downloaded.
4. When you are asked for the PPD file, browse to find it on your system.
Now you will have a printer instance called Acrobat Distiller. Use this printer when you create PDF files or when you create PostScript files from FrameMaker.
Do not use Save As PDF! This seems handy, but doesn't let you control Distiller job options. Instead:
1. From your Frame file or Frame book file, Print.
2. Make sure to select Print to File.
3. Make sure that Acrobat Distiller is the printer selected. It is good practice to make sure Acrobat Distiller is the default printer for your system before you go from Frame to Acrobat.
4. Distill the resulting postscript file.
Using watched folders can make your Frame-to-Acrobat tasks nearly automatic. See the Acrobat Guide for more information.
Sean, I think that your post may give the beginner a little too much information they won't understand until they've been at this for awhile. The "If you are outputting to a service bureau..." part for example. I think the FAQ should answer the questions for beginners. As they gain more experience and confidence, they will start to do things your way--the daring Save As, for example!
Your troubleshooting ideas are great. Can you add, under the b&w or grayscale PDF problem that it might be caused by selecting Spot as Black in the Frame print dialog?
Hope I'm not too much a pain about this... Also hope I didn't mess up the details in my suggestions...

Printing iPhoto 5 titles and comments?

I am using iphoto 5.0.4. I want to print a list of the titles and comments for a selected group of pictures. Can I do this?

This is the forum for iPhoto 7 (or iPhoto '08). Overall, it is best to post in the appropriate forum, as the various versions do have their differences. That said, there are a few things that can be addressed here.
I Don't know if this is a 10.4.11 or 10.4.4 problem.
I would take a shot and say that this is an iPhoto problem that exists on the computer that is running 10.4.4. To deal with the iPhoto issue, give this basic remedy a try. Quit iPhoto and delete your iPhoto preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.iphoto.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iPhoto; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
If that doesn't help, do a verify and repair of permissions using Disk Utility.
Also, it is a good idea to update your system software in this computer to 10.4.11.

CRMD_BUS2000108 - organizational unit and attributes for org. unit

Hi all!
As I'm customizing Lead creation (and in a second step lead generation)
I would like to receive tips about "selection of organizational unit and attributes for org. unit".
I expected that, by entering a BP number of a prospect or sold-to party, the organizational unit and its attributes would be displayed automatically on the tab "organization".
This is not the case. When I start the lead creation, there is a pop-up screen inviting me to choose the organizational unit. afterwards a pop-up screen for the attributes of the org unit. Only after setting a flag in both pop-ups, I see the actual "lead" transaction. When I enter a BP number, the sales assistant and sales rep are found automatically.
Could anybody please explain how to change the customizing?
I would like to see the lead transaction (create) first, enter a bp number and than have the org unit and its attributes, the sales rep and sales assistant found automatically.
Any usefull answer (would make my day ), will be rewarded.

this is happening because you have not done the org data determination in your transaction,just go to SPRO and there in org data determination ,you have many standard ORGMAN rules available which you can use which will pick the data according to the user ,BPs etc.
it will enable you to first give BP and then the org data will be driven automatically from the system according to the rule in org data determination.
so first go and use rule ,try using rule ORGMAN_12
then attach this rule to the org data profile and then add this org data profile to the transaction in basic settings in transaction where you have defined your lead transaction.
it will solve your purpose

Comments and Titles for iDVD slideshows

I am wondering if there is any way to change the appearance (font, size, etc.) of the comments and titles for photos in an iDVD slideshow. I have not found a way to do this, and am surprised since it seems I am able to change appearance for the text in virtually all other areas of iDVD. I am running version 7.1.2. Thanks for any suggestions.

No, there's no way to modify that font or size.

I chose the ASROCK Extreme 11 due to the number of SATA3 ports. I haven't found any other 2011 socket mb's with the amount of SATA ports I require. Any alternatives recommended ?
My understanding is that HDD's wont benefit from a 6gb SATA3 connection so there is no point using these ports for any HDD - is this correct ?
I have viewed Todd's 'Optimizing Hard Disk Video' where he puts the Media Cache on the C drive. Where would you recommend the Media Cache be placed ?
My intention is to backup everything from both D & E RAID 0 volumes to F drive. I note some systems and recommendations have the exports being written directly to the larger, slower backup HDD but doesn't this mean the export takes longer to write ? I am assuming I am better off writing out my export file to a fast SDD and then backing up to my F: HDD later.
Any comments on the size of my E drive for Preview, Export, Media Cache...would 2 x 256gb drives in RAID 0 be adequate, considering I'm using this drive purely as temporary storage.
I also acknowledge that the C drive at 512gb may be overkill but I'd rather not run out of space there, especially if I need to use that drive for the pagefile and media cache or anything else recommended.
I look forward to reading your comments and suggestions and really appreciate any feedback / alternatives suggested.

Thanks for the feedback - very much appreciated.
The reason I chose the 1600mhz sticks instead of 2133mhz was because of stability fears, not because of price.
Also, I don't think I have seen any 64gb memory kits running at 2133mhz ?
If you think using the 2133mhz memory is worthwhile and stable, and gives a valuable performance boost I will consider that upgrade.
The GSkill 1600mhz is 1.5 volts and I have read concerns on this forum about using that voltage.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions from anyone about what 64gb 2133 mhz memory kit to purchase that is stable and runs well with an ASrock Extreme 11 motherboard and the 3930k processor.
As per other posts on this forum regarding memory, I'd rather have more memory over faster memory, hence why I am going for 64gb straight away.
As to the C drive size, I'll consider scaling that back to 256gb

Enabling Comments for PDF and Acrobat Reader

Hello,
We work with remote reviewers and oftentimes we have to enable our PDFs for commenting, since they only have Acrobat Reader. We then get the files back from our remote reviewers, review their suggestions, and then send them the PDFs back. The only main issue is that we HAVE to enable the PDFs for commenting EVERY time. Is there a better way?

If you want to change your iCloud ID to another existing ID you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account. To do this, first go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and turn all data you are syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted choose to keep the data on your iPhone. (If you are syncing iWork documents with iCloud, also open your iWork apps and turn off iCloud syncing and choose to keep the documents on your phone.) After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. Next, set up a new iCloud account using your other ID, then turn syncing for your data (contacts, etc.) back to On. When prompted, choose Merge. This will upload the data to your new account.
This will not move your photo stream, however. If you have photos in photo stream that aren't in your camera roll and that you haven't backed up anywhere else you will need to save these before deleting the account. To do this, open your photo stream album on your iPhone in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos to select them, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll. You can then delete the iCloud account and your photos will stay in your camera roll.
