Suggestion for a Sticky topic

Ned Pyle's post on Getting Started with Windows Storage Replication is a great post. (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/f843291f-6dd8-4a78-be17-ef92262c158d/getting-started-with-windows-volume-replication?forum=WinServerPreview)
I'm sure there will be others.  It would be nice to have a sticky topic on this forum where these are saved for quick reference (and to lessen the number of repeated requests).  Posts such as Ned's could be linked in this sticky.  If
a PM writes a great blog post on a particular feature, it could be linked.  The moderator could keep track of votes/links that show it has value and edit the sticky to keep it up to date.

  • ArchWiki: suggestion for a new page layout

    Finally, I have some time to spare for ArchWiki improvement.
    I have modified my article on CMYK support in The GIMP as an example.
    Please take a look at it here:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CMY … n_The_GIMP
    The code to produce the box on the right is here:
    {{sn|'''Article summary:'''
    This article will show how to enable rudimentary CMYK support in The GIMP using the Separate plug-in, and explain how to use color proof filter to soft-proof your images.
    It will also cover more general topics on CMYK colors and DTP.

    This is the best we can do with current ArchWiki setup. It would be even better if we could list categories in the box, as well as i18n links.

As you can see, it's a bit more typing than before, but it sure looks better. I might shorten the names for the templates. I wanted to make them memorable so they are a bit long.
As you can see, the problem of i18n links integration was fixed, so you can use existing i18n template and combine with the new "Article summary" set.
I will modify the article about writing summaries to include those templates and examples.
EDIT:  :oops:  the i18n links in the article are just examples. Don't use them, since they lead to non-existing pages.
EDIT2: Okay, I've played around with the appearance of the summary box, but I'm at work now, so it's going nowhere. I'll play with it some more when I get home.

To accomplish similar functionality go to JMSQ on (for which proxy is configured) server console (http://localhost:7001/console) and configure the Error Destination. Following URL will help in how to configure JMS Q.

  • Directory structure suggestions, for keeping tidy classpath

    Suggestions for setting up my directory (learning area, devel area etc.)
    ok, so this classpath thing seems to have the potential to make a real messcan anyone suggest how I might alter my directory to limit the numberof additions I have to make to my classpath variable?
    presently I have a directory off of my root for the various books I use:
    C:\jJavaJunkYard < txtbook
    C:\jTextBookDL < txtbook
    C:\jJavaCoreFundamentals < txtbook
    C:\jTheJavaTutorial < txtbook
    C:\jThinkingInJava < txtbook
    C:\jJavaHowTo < txtbook
    C:\jDevl << java development area
    C:\jdk14 << java exe & doc
    C:\jdkLanguageSpecDoc << java lang specifications
    and of course under each txtbook, I have
    ch1, ch2,ch3 etc.
    how can I set up my directory so that my classpath does not get too messy?

    that idea kinda scares me... i have probably thousands
    of files...
    but if no one else bothers to answer...
    you'll get the dukes...
    thank you for bothering to answerThousands of files? Are these separate classes which you have created? If so you should consider organizing these files by package. (I hope I am understanding your question as you meant it).
    Use the package statement, eg.
    package com.accuchekinc.pc5250;to tell the compile where to put the class.
    Use the import statement, eg
    import com.accuchekinc.pc5250;to retrieve the class by another class which uses it.
    Then you only have to make sure that "com" is in one of the folders in the class path statement.
    I wholeheartedly agree with the previous suggestion that you use the -classpath (or -cp) parameter of javac.exe and java.exe to establish unique sets of class paths per project.
    Good luck. I've been watching your topic for ideas a well.

  • How can I submit a suggestion for autocorrect changes in Brazilian Portuguese?, How can I submit a suggestion for autocorrect changes in Brazilian Portuguese?

    I know it might sound a little stupid, but there's an autocorrect change that EVERY iPhone owner in Brazil hates and it's, in my point of view, so easy to solve in a next software update.
    In Brazil we use a lot the word "bora" as a slang, meaning "let's go". It's not a real word, is a short for "vamos embora", but everyone uses it. the pronblem is all apple devices autocorrect it automatically from "bora" to "Borá", which the only meaning in Portuguese is "the name of the smallest municipality in Brazil (around 800 citizens)". So obviously, NOBODY will EVER be talking about "Borá" in their conversations. It would be very fullfilling to type "bora" and not even see the suggestion for a change, nor the autocorrection itself. I know it might sound stupid, but there are even Facebook topics talking about it, everybody already HATES the poor tiny village because of that, LOL...Hope someday it can be fixed by Apple.
    Tks!

    You can submit feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback
    and you can turn off Autocorrect altogether.  Settings => General => Keyboard => Toggle off Auto-Correction.  This will obviously turn off all of the autocorrections.  I don't know of a way to edit the Auto-correct dictionary.

  • Suggestion for additions and corrections to FAQ's

    The FAQ forum will constantly evolve as issues are added and updated. Since the topics are read only other than to forum workers, we wanted to give users a special topic where they can add their suggestions for additions and corrections.
    Please keep in mind that all forum workers are volunteers, they do this because they enjoy helping other users.

    Chris,
    Like I said, Im relatively new to PhotoShop and PS forum. I have researched the PS manual, PS help topics and this forum. I am not an individual that would ask a question of hard-working volunteers about a subject that I have not already researched. And yes, I know and understand what FAQs are and how they are generally presented on the web.
    Huh? The FAQ section is for administrators to add things to, not users. If you have a question, you ask in the main forum. If many people ask the same question, then the administrators add an entry to the FAQ.
    Okay if this is true, how was I able to post a message? I wasnt aware that I couldnt post a FAQ suggestion to the FAQ suggestion Forum? Hmm, maybe I missed the
    small print on that one.
    Look ... I do NOT want to create any hostility with you. You have given me some answers and I appreciate your comments. I will go back and "wade through" all of the forums to look for basic or frequent problems that may answer some frequent questions.
    Cheers!
    Dennis

    Hi Marilyn,
    Thanks a lot for the reply, it's good to see that even the not-so-polite rant postings are taken serious and get attention. I think that most of us truly appreciate the platform SAP is providing, but we're a bit tired with some of the application features/limitations. So I hope nobody takes offense when we're venting a bit...
    Waiting for more input here.
    I neither understand the <em>more input</em> (for what and by whom) nor the <em>here</em> (this thread or this forum). The missing functionality for dealing with unanswered questions seems obvious enough. At least that should be one topic that everybody agrees on. I suspect that the same applies to the rather poor <em>search capabilities</em>. Though as we can see in the forums, lots of people apparently seem to prefer to quickly shoot some questions instead of wasting their time with any research...
    Continue to convince us please.
    Is that a polite way of saying <em>keep on whining</em>? If yes, then no problem, I think we all need to do that from time to time...
    If the feedback from the community is truly important, I'd say that there should be a public system for posting bugs/feature requests on which people could vote. This should be prominently placed in the forums and would allow easier feedback. The voting feature could be used to possibly limit the bugs/requested features to look at (e.g. top ten list) and then be classified by SAP based on implementation effort (with the usual disclaimer that no feature might ever be implemented just because it's wanted). Needless to say that it should be easy to search for already existing requests, but in general I'd assume that fairly soon there would be more voting (on top requests) than posting new ones...
    To channel requests and avoid too many silly postings in this bug/feature tool one could imagine using earned <em>forum points</em> possibly as a currency for putting a value to the requests (i.e. I could vote to say if feature A gets implemented I'd pay it with N forum points, which are deducted from my account once the feature is present). I'm not sure if that is a good idea, but at least it might ensure that people who truly care about the platform enter their comments. At least it seems that often systems, which implement some artificial monetary system and try to optimize on cost, yield very good results...
    Cheers, harald

  • VBA script for automatically indexing topics

    A big disadvantage with InDesign's indexing system is that you cannot automatically index all occurences of topics currently in the index.
    Instead, you have to find an occurence of each topic in the document itself and go to the Index menus and then click New Page Reference...Add All, for each index topic individually.
    To get around this, I have been trying to produce a VBA script to automatically index all occurrences in a document of the topics currently in the document index.
    I have been using the MS Excel VBA development environment but find the definitions of the object model in the Excel VBA browser rather inadequate and ambiguous .
    Is there a more thorough reference work for these?
    The plan was to start by taking each individual topic in the index which I tried to access with something along the lines of:
    MyDocument.Index.Topic(1)
    This hasn't worked.
    The plan then was to take each index topic and use it to find an occurence in the document of that topic and then use that occurence to invoke the New Page Reference...Add All option to index all occcurences of that selected term, using something like:
    MyDocument.PageReferences.Add
    Again, without success.
    Any guidance or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Dear Peter,
    Many thanks for your posting, that was very helpful.
    This is the state of the script so far (I have added a large number of MsgBox entries - these aren't needed, they are just for debugging purposes during development):
    'VBA script which tries to work through all of the topics in the index and automatically index each occurence of them in the current text frame:
    main
    Function main()
    Set MyInDesign = CreateObject("InDesign.Application.CS4")
    If MyInDesign.Documents.Count > 0 Then
        Set MyDocument = MyInDesign.ActiveDocument
        Set MyPage = MyDocument.Pages.Item(1)
        Set MyTextFrame = MyPage.TextFrames.Item(1)
        Set MyStory = MyTextFrame.ParentStory
        Set MyIndex = MyDocument.Indexes(1)
        Set MyTopics = MyIndex.AllTopics
        MyIndexesCount = MyDocument.Indexes.Count
        MsgBox "Current indexes Count: " & MyIndexesCount
        MyIndexTopicsCount = MyTopics.Count
        MsgBox "Current index topics Count: " & MyIndexTopicsCount
        For i = 1 To MyTopics.Count Step 1 'work through the topics
    MyIndexTerm=MyTopics(i)
    MsgBox "Current indexes Topic: " & MyIndexTerm
    'search for MyIndexTerm :
            'Clear Find preferences:
            MyInDesign.FindTextPreferences = idNothingEnum.idNothing
            'Set up search paramaters:
            If MyIndexTerm <> "" Then
                MyInDesign.FindTextPreferences.FindWhat = MyIndexTerm
                'Set search options:

                MyInDesign.FindChangeTextOptions.IncludeFootnotes = False

                MyInDesign.FindChangeTextOptions.IncludeLockedLayersForFind = False
                MyInDesign.FindChangeTextOptions.IncludeLockedStoriesForFind = False
                MyInDesign.FindChangeTextOptions.IncludeMasterPages = False
                MyInDesign.FindChangeTextOptions.WholeWord = False
                'Search for the string:
                Set MyFoundItems = MyDocument.FindText 'this ought to be limited to the Story, not the Document eg MyStory
             MsgBox "Found index terms:" & MyFoundItems.Count
                For j = MyFoundItems.Count To 1 Step -1
                   MyTopics(i).PageReferences.Add MyFoundItems(j)
                Next
               'Clear preference:
                MyInDesign.FindTextPreferences = idNothingEnum.idNothing
                'Having found it, add page reference:
             'MyDocument.PageReferences.Add
            Else
                MsgBox "No search term specified"
            End If
    Response=MsgBox ("Continue?", vbYesNo)
    If Response = vbNo then
      Exit For
    End If
       Next
    'Set up Index options:
    MyIndex.IndexOptions.Title = "Index"
    MyIndex.IndexOptions(1).TitleStyle="Chapter Head"
    MyIndex.IndexOptions(1).ReplaceExistingIndex = True
    'Generate the index:
    MyIndex.Generate
    Else
        MsgBox ("Please open a document, select an object, and try again.")
    End If
    End Function
    There are a couple of problem areas still:
    1. Index terms appear to be added irrespective of whether or not that particular page reference already exists in the index.
    This can result in duplicate page references under each topic - especially if the script is run several times.
    Is there any way of avoiding these duplicate references?
    2. I haven't yet suceeded in getting the script to generate the index - so far I've had to do it manually after the script has run.
    The problem lies somewhere in the code to set up the index options and then generate the index.
    3. It might be useful to be able to limit the indexing to the curent story rather than the whole document - but I haven't yet got it to do that.
    Best wishes.

  • Need suggestions for proofreading online help files

    I have created online help docs off an on for many years...
    and have contemplated this issue several times and never come up
    with a really good answer.
    Right now, the product manager is tryiing to proof one of the
    online help files that i've COMPLETELY revamped and he's
    complaining about the time this is taking and how difficult it is
    because not all topics are in the TOC...
    so I suppose i could regnerate the TOC and include EVERY
    SINGLE topic... but I was wondering if anyone else had any other
    suggestions for best practices when it comes to reviewing online
    help files.
    THANKS for any input you might have.

    Umm!. I have to admit that I find your approach of adding ALL
    topics to the TOC works as well as any. However it does cause
    problems where one or more popup topics appear in the same topic.
    This causes a bit of uncertainty unless there is a clear indication
    in the topic where a popup exists and an understanding of what TOC
    topic to look at. What I tend to do is have a piece of text (e.g.
    see popup titled xxxxx) which has a conditional build tag on it.
    Then you include the build tag when you compile. I also tend to
    have all the popups in a separate book in the TOC. You can then
    easily remove all the popups from the finalised output. It means a
    bit of tossing and turning between TOC chapters but seems to work
    reasonably well. You could also produce two printed copies, one
    containing the popups and another containing the main topic
    content. Hope this helps solve your conumdrum.

  • Suggestion for new Forum - Software Quality Assurance & Testing

    Hi - I'm active in ASUG and a SIG Chair for Software Quality Assurance SIG.  I'm new to SDN and looked around a bit for where topics related to Software QA, Testing, Test tools & methodologies, etc. would be posted and discussed.  I haven't found any relevant forums.  A couple postings on SAP TAO (test tool) landed in the Solution Manager forum... looks like they were searching for a relevant home too.
    We have good content and discussions on these topics on asug.com and I'd like to facilitate bringing some of these topics to the larger SDN community.  I started a blog, we sponsor webinars, etc.  What would you think of having a forum on SDN called Software Quality Assurance & Testing?  Or are there other suggestions for where I would start discussing this?  Maybe the forum's out there already but I just can't find it?
    Thanks!

    Count me in!
    Currently the security aspects of good software development don't have a real home either, and are distributed over SCN in a rather thin and adhoc fasion by a few folks.
    I am sure that such a forum would attract a lot of new attention to SCN on the customer side, as it is important for them.
    It would also be irrefutable that the SCN Rules of Engagement are applied strictly to such a forum
    Cheers and good idea!

  • Durable Subscriber for Uniform Distributed Topic

    Hi I created one Uniform distributed topic (UDT). And One Error topic which is also Uniform distributed topic (UDT) for the same Uniform distributed topic (UDT). Now i want all the error messages in error topic to persist. So i want to create one durable subscriber for error topic. For normal topic it is easy to create but how can i create durable sub scriber for Error Topic. Please suggest.

    Thank you Kalyan. But i don't think that will help. Or let me rephrase my question.
    Below are my observations for using Error topic for Uniform Distributed Topic (UDT) -
    1. Error topic for a UDT has to be a UDT, in the same subdeployment.
    2. It is not possible to create a durable subscriber for UDT from WLS console - there is no create button.
    We need durable subscriber to persist error messages. So as a work around I have created a dummy SOA process as a subscriber to the error UDT and turned the SOA process off.
    Do you have an idea if we can avoid creation of dummy subscriber and still persist messages in error topic (UDT) for distributed env?
    will the attribute value "Delivery Mode" = Persist help?

    I would like iphone to read pdf files, and save ebooks in my iphone, for example: student medicine, i like save books in mi pda,

    You can read pdf files on the iPhone, if they have been sent to you in an email, or if you look them up in Safari. That is how I refer to the iPhone User guide from the Apple site.
    eBooks can be a problem, because sometimes, as is done by my college library, they are downloaded as Windows Media files, and they have specific DRM. They also have an expiration date to them. You check them out just like a library book. They, meaning the particular ones from my libraby, can't be used on an iPod, or iPhone.
    I read a post in the past week about someone downloading audio books from CD into iTunes and syncing them. I can't remember it exactly, but if you search the discussions you should find it. Use audiobook as a search topic.
    Otherwise, making suggestions for modifications is done through their feedback page, www.apple.com/feedback
    Hope this helps you.
