Suggestion: Host Muse sites on separate server

After looking at user's Muse websites while fielding questions in this forum it's become apparent that there is no care taken in image optimization.  Typically, if a Muse user chooses a full width background image it is around 3,000 x 2,000 pixels in resolution and at least 2mb (sometimes even more-- 3.5mb) in size.
With the low learning curve and lack of image optimization techniques by Muse users I think it would be wise to setup separate servers for Muse websites or at least ensure that Muse sites aren't hosted on the same servers that our Partner sites and Partner clients' sites are hosted on. There are bound to be thousands more of these free CC Muse sites with poor image optimization zapping the resources of our server architecture for paid partners.
I realize that the move to AWS will lessen this impact a bit but I still find it worrysome.
Also, are paid Partner accounts and their clients hosted on the same servers as the free or "included" sites for Muse and CC members?  I don't think we should be on the same servers as the free sites either.
Just a suggestion but I cannot find a suggestions/feature request forum to post this on and I want to see what others think about this topic.

What I did in the end was a 'ln -s' symbolic link which gave me 'almost' the personal web sites functionality but without the tilde (~). Not quite what I wanted but good enough.

  • Third Party Hosting Muse Site - 404 Error on Mobile

    Hi guys,
I recently exported my Adobe Muse site files (pixelariumstudio.com), uploaded them into FileZilla, and then uploaded the site to GoDaddy hosting services using FileZilla.
The site looks great on desktops but I receive a 404 error whenever I try to view the site on mobile devices (even tablets). I called GoDaddy thinking it was a problem on their end but after two opinions from two separate calls, I've been informed it's the code of the site itself that is the problem. The funny thing is, when the site was hosted through Adobe, it appeared fine on mobile devices but when the site was moved over to GoDaddy, the 404 error arose.
I'm wondering if Muse writes specific code for displaying a site in mobile browsers that is not recognized by third party hosting services because GoDaddy is not redirecting the site to the mobile view and instead just coming up with a 404 error. If so, is there any way to change the code that Muse writes to display the site on mobile devices so that GoDaddy can recognize it? I've done some research online to see what basic code is used to redirect a site to the mobile view but all I came up with was:
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
Every guide I find says to place that tag right after the <head> and I do but still no luck getting the website to display on mobile devices. If anyone knows the proper coding to get GoDaddy to display a Muse site on mobile devices, I would forever be in your debt. I'm guessing it's just a couple lines I have to replace but I don't know what lines or with what to replace it. :/ Here is the entire <head> of the website in case this helps find any faulty code:
    <head>
      <script type="text/javascript">

Sounds like you haven't uploaded all the files exported by Muse.
Specifically, it looks like you didn't upload the 'phone' folder.
If you use Filezilla or another 3rd party FTP tool, you have to be sure to upload all the files exported by Muse for your site to work correctly.
You can also use the 'Upload to FTP host...' menu item within Muse to upload all the files to your web hosting provider.

  • Hosting Muse site at BC

I have a full CC subscription and therefore am permitted 5 free BC sites.
Are these only for 28 days or whatever for testing and sharing, or can they be hosted long term within the terms of the 5 free sites, without additional charges?
Sorry to be thick, but it doesn't seem to be clear from what I read on the site.

Take a look at this article - http://helpx.adobe.com/muse/tutorials/launching-muse-site-push-live-1.html.
You can create a maximum of 100 free trial sites with your Business Catalyst free Partner account, you would usually use these for previewing and testing purposes or sharing the work with your clients for review. A trial site remains active for 30 days following the last time it is published to.
The free Business Catalyst sites that you push live (max 5) renew automatically with your Creative Cloud subscription. So you just need to pay for CC subscription and your free sites hosted with Business Catalyst remain "live". These sites are webBasics by plan (and can always be upgraded to higher), read more about site plans here - http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/kb/detailed-plan-breakdown.html.

  • Trouble hosting muse site with Business Catalyst

I built a site with muse and am hosting with BC(creative cloud subscription). The original site is kittlesoncreekpress.businesscatalyst.com, trying to publish to www.kittlesoncreekpress.com but I get a 404 error when I try to publish. The namesservers are set correctly with domain registrar.
    HELP!!!
    Thanks so much!

    Hello Tony,
When I tried to access kittlesoncreekpress.com, the URL that came up is http://www.kittlesoncreekpress.com/www.kittlesoncreek.com
Notice the www.kittlesoncreek.com after the domain name.
I have checked all the settings on the business catalyst end for the site kittlesoncreekpress.businesscatalyst.com, and they seem fine. The domain has been added correctly, the nameservers are fine as well. Please check if there is some fowarding etc. applied to the domain from the registrar's end.
    Cheers

  • How do I properly install my Muse site into Wordpress?

    Hello all,
Just to be clear; I am not a professional web designer nor do I pretend to be one. I am helping a small business by making their website. I decided to use Muse as I am familiar with Indesign and Photoshop so this seemed like the way to go. I also need a CMS for the site so decided to use Wordpress.
So I'm searching the web for answers to my question yet still not able to find a decent answer to this:
How do I install my Muse site in Wordpress (thus using Wordpress as CMS)?
I already know that Wordpress uses .php and Muse is .html and found ways to convert this (using Bridge for example). Is that the way to go or do I really need to do some serious programming? If someone has a video tutorial that would be great!
    Thanks!

With no true “Blogging” capability built directly into Adobe Muse, users must find an alternative way to mimic this functionality.  By using embedded HTML and the free Blog provider Nabble (www.nabble.com) this tutorial will explain how to include a fully featured blog in your website without writing any code.
Here's a sample blog that I built in a few minutes as a demonstration:
    http://mtsampleblog.businesscatalyst.com/index.html
Why aren’t blogs available right now in Adobe Muse?
Although services like Tumblr and Wordpress simplify blogs greatly, the truth is they are fairly complex to code from scratch and often require complicated backend systems (servers with databases).  Think of all the functionality a typical blog includes - commenting, login systems, archiving, searching - those aren’t features that can be easily achieved with simple HTML / CSS.
While I certainly can’t speak for Adobe, I can say that for a blog “widget” to simply exist in Muse you wouldn’t be able to host a site on any server, with any configuration. The same is true for the “Forms” widget in Muse - for a form to work, you must host with Adobe’s Business Catalyst. This isn’t because Adobe wants to force you to host your site on their servers; it’s because that’s the only place where they can control the backend setup and build a widget that will consistently work every single time.
Remember the days of cross-browser bug fixing (before Muse saved us), well just imagine doing that for every hosting server in the world.  But I digress…
Similar to browsers, there are many different types of hosting servers and configurations
    Image from: http://www.seo4q.com/2012/02/several-types-of-websites.html
    About Nabble
I like Nabble as a blogging solution for a few simple reasons:
    1. It’s really easy to use, quite powerful, and best of all... free.
    2. Once your site is embedded in Muse, you won’t need to edit your Muse file to make updates.  You will simply login to the Nabble website, post updates (and even change the appearance) and your changes will be reflected immediately on your Muse website.
    3. You have just enough control over the look & feel to integrate it seamlessly into your website, but without advanced features that might be overwhelming.
    4. It contains the core functionality most bloggers look for - searching, archiving, RSS feeds, commenting, etc.

  • Hosting Multiple SSL Sites on Separate IP Addresses

Hosting Multiple SSL Sites on Separate IP Addresses
I currently have a web server (XServe) hosting a number of different sites from its main IP address on port 80 using Apache 1.3. This has been working great, the ServerAdmin GUI has been pretty good about creating the appropriate Apache configs, and everybody is happy.
I have one particular site that I want to use SSL with so I decided to purchase a cert (from GoDaddy). Since I have one other cert on the server assigned to the main server IP, I understand that the appropriate way to setup additional SSL certificates is to bind another IP address to the XServe and use that IP. I was unable to use ServerAdmin to install my new certificate (not surprisingly) probably since it is a chain certificate, however I have been able to do it by hand and it seems to be working as intended…mostly.
This is where my problem begins. The site that I wanted to add SSL to is currently hosted on the main IP address (x.x.x.173:80) and the SSL certificate is working on the newly bound IP address (x.x.x.178:443). Fundamentally it would seem appropriate to change the IP address of the non-SSL site to match the new IP, except on port 80 – So I can achieve a seamless blend between standard and SSL (when necessary). The problem is that I can’t get Apache to work this way. Maybe I am missing a step, or overlooking something.
Excerpt from current, working (non-SSL) config: (Names have been changed to protect the innocent.)
    <VirtualHost x.x.x.173:80>
    ServerName www.site.com
    ServerAdmin [email protected]
    DocumentRoot "/Library/WebServer/Documents/www.site.com"
    </VirtualHost>
Excerpt from current, working (SSL) config:
    <VirtualHost x.x.x.178:443>
    ServerName www.site.com
    ServerAdmin [email protected]
    DocumentRoot "/Library/WebServer/Documents/www.site.com"
    </VirtualHost>
changing the first entry’s ip address to match the second one causes the site to be unresponsive (using the IP address to point the browser to the site) but the SSL version keeps working. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Two separate Adobe users sharing Muse site

How can two users with different Adobe IDs share and work on the same Muse-created website? One user created the site over a year ago and is asking for help in maintaining it. Another user also has an Adobe ID with Muse purchased and downloaded separately. They both need to access the same site/files independently (and not at the same time, of course).

    Hi
Same Muse file can be published to different sites , but I believe what you want that both users should be able to manage the site from Muse as well from Published site end.
If the site is hosted at external server then both users must have the server access so that they can upload the updated Muse site in root of the site.
If site is published to Business Catalyst, then ask the previous user who created the site to add both new users as admin to the site or partner portal users and they can also make changes to the site in Muse and publish to same site.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Server setup for a muse site

We are going to use a third party host for a site being developed in muse. The IT person that will be setting up the hosting server is asking if there are any requirements that he needs to be aware of when setting up the server.

  • Help need to switch Muse site to BC on a allready hosted plan

Hi,  i also posted on BC forum...
I have a client that was in a hurry to have his emails accounts before the entire website.
So i went on and bought the email marketing plan (cos he will also need to do email campains) an pointed his domain everything is working fine, at this moment he has his accounts the domain is live.
The site would be just a small 7-10 pages not to complicated.
Has a graphic designer (who has venture into Business catalyst cos it had all the solutions i needed, well that's what the promotional videos said anyway) I made a site in Muse.
First i did a temporary page thats says "comming soon", and then i made the entire site, all the design and menu but with blank pages cos the client didnt have all the content yet (and still dont have). I uploaded that site to a sub directory so he could see the evolution.
    He approved the design, yay!
At the end of the process, he told me he needed to have full control with the editor. (style, images, bulleted list, need to put downloadable document like pdf etc.) i told him that he could only modify what was allready there with the Muse in Browser editing (that he saw when i made the pitch using another site) he was impress with the way it worked.
so i told him i would have to remake "template".
I thought of using a BC template, and modify the looks to adapt to my client image, Of course, use a responsive theme so he could make the change at one place only. (cos in Muse you need to make the changes on the 3 layouts).
Now, i created a new temporary site using one of the new responsive template available.
How can i import that new site onto his live domain? In other words, how can a switch from a theme made in Muse, to a BC template?
cant i just delete everything in the root folder, and upload the entire new site via ftp?
please help me find the solution. i am a bit in a panic here
hope you could understand my lousy English.
    Sincerely,
    i.d.

This would need to be transparent for m'y client...

    Thanks for additional details.
Unfortunately we cannot change site template of a live site in BC , but as a workaround Create a site from BC using the template you wish to use then publish the site from Muse to the site created from BC and transfer the contents stored from live site to trial site. Ater final transition is done , you can delete the already paid site and make live the new trial site which includes new site template.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Using Mac Mini running OSX Server (10.8) to host web sites on LAN

I would like to know how to use a Mac Mini running OSX Server (10.8 ML) to host web sites on my home network (LAN).
I am developing web sites and previously (before ML) I used my Mac Pro to 'host' the sites I was developing to test them out before publishing them to my hosting package.  That was when I was using 10.7 Lion and theer was an option in the System Preferences to turn web sharing on.
I have since upgraded my Mac client to 10.8 ML and have configured it to do the same - even though there is no System Preferences option for web sharing any more.
I also have a Mac Mini running on my LAN and its been upgraded to OSX Server 10.8.
Im now trying to configure it to host the web sites I am developing but with no success.
I thought it was just a matter of adding them as sites in the Server's Websites panel (see screen shot)
but so far Ive had no success.
On my Mac client I can simply add a folder in the Sites directory and then open the web site by putting http://myhost/~myuser/name-of-folder and it will load the default file in the folder e.g. index.html
How do I achieve the 'same thing' on OSX Server?

This is so I can keep my free ones for personal projects but also so they can pay for their own hosting. I am happy to set it all up for them but not sure what to do.

    Hi
You can use their BC login details and use them , which on publish the site will be under their account.
Please change the BC login from Edit > Preferences > Publish > Switch Accounts , for Mac it would Adobe Muse > Preferences

I need to clarify how I can use adobe as a host for my site for free. I see where business catalyst is supposed to be temporary as well as it is recommended to use as the better alternative to launch my muse site. But then I have to use the long extension of "businesscatalyst" in addition to the domain name I'd prefer. How exactly can I take it live? do I have to use a third party hosting?

    Hi,
Once you are done with your sitet, Click on Publish in Muse, select New Site from the drop down, It will ask you a name for your site, which will be used for  site url, you will get a url like mysite.businesscatalyst.com, then go to the browser and login to the admin panel, mysite.businesscatalyst.com/admin and on Dashboard, click Launch site. This will push your site live, and you can then add your custom domain.
Also make sure that you have completed all these actions mentioned here

  • Merging two separate MUSE sites into a single MENU system and Paid & online BC eCommerce site

Hi all! I am stuck trying to figure out a Process Conundrum:
1> I have a BC site with e-commerce ready to go - paid - online with store template in place.
2> I also Have a 2nd MUSE created web site (with the client content/pages) that needs to merge with that E-commerce BC site.
What is the move to merge the two separate sites into a single site with the Menus all in proper order?
Is this simple and I can not see it? (merge the two sites in a folder and reopen in muse for new menus?
Or do i need Dreamweaver to assist in the merge?
    In other words:
What is the PATH/PROCESS to merge a 2nd MUSE designed web site (sans e-commerce), in order to tie into the online BC e-commerce template paid site - so the menus update together as "one" site?
Menu Update Concern:  merging two separate MUSE sites into a single MENU system with the "Paid on line Active BC e-commerce Template". How do it do it Process wise so that the menus adjust automatically... so they are "one" menu.
Reminds me of an old joke: Q: "What did the Buddhist say to the hot dog vendor at the ball park?"
A: "Make me one with everything!"
    ONWARD>>>>>
Possible paths I am about to take attempting to Solve the problem - and scale the learning curve...
download the BC e-commerce site into Dreamweaver -
export the 2nd muse site by publishing it to a unique folder.
combine them by going back into dream weaver and attempting to figure out linking the menus. - perhaps they are automatic there too.
or load them both up to BC and back down to MUSE to fix the menus?
I appreciate Any recommendations, hits or humor that you could help on this.
    Cheers!

Thanks, Liam... I will get it eventually...
Sadly: I do not have a budget to hire this out...
       -  I have gone through lots of the BC and Muse training exercises. Adobe
       and BC Gurus.
But... if the only problem is that I need to work though my partner site BC
    interface...
       - that would be fine...
       - so would using dream weaver....
I will go back and review the BC interface and also dreamweaver
    capabilities.
without a budget... i need to figure it out... please do point to any
material or training you might be able to point me to.
I don't have to use muse, if that is my sticking point. I just need to get
the project up and BC looks perfect.
    Thanks.
