Suggestions for an iSight camera STAND?

I have the camera... but the little plastic "thingy" that came w/ it doesn't fit on my (achem) Dell monitor.
I'd love to just have some sort of little "stand" that sits on my desk, holds it, so I can place it at the BOTTOM of my monitor.
I know it's probably not a ready-made product out there... but any ideas?
I'm not opposed to making something.
tia,

While googling for an iChat issue, I got pointed to this Apple support site: http://www.apple.com/support/isight/service/
There were a few other links that no longer produce replacement products, either Apple or third-party.
I think they have been so far out of production, you might be out of luck finding a source.

  • Software suggestions for old iSight camera/PowerBook G4

    Hi All,
I have an old stand alone iSight camera and an old PowerBook G4 that I would like to use as a "webcam". Currently I have the old iSight hooked up to my iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 and am running Sequenz to save an image to my public DropBox folder.  The camera takes pictures of our back yard once every hour and updates the image in my DropBox. I share the current along with our weather station data with our active adult community. The system works just fine and the residents love it. BUT...
For many reasons, especially security, I would like to get the camera off my main desktop computer and put it on this old PowerBook running 10.4.11.
Sequenz will only work with 10.6 and the PowerBook cannot run that OS.
Is there another piece of software that will work for me?  I just want software that will caputure a picture and save it/update the file in my DropBox folder on a specified schedule.
    Thanks for any help.

    You're most welcome, Suzanne.
As you obviously know, regardless of your specific requirements at this time, your choices for apps that work with Mac OS X 10.4 will be limited by the fact that the MacOS you plan to use is now three generations old.  OS X 10.4.11 is a great OS, but little if any new commercial software is being developed for it now.
However, here are "in the clear" links for three webcam apps that claim work with
    Mac OS 10.4.11:
http://www.securityspy.com/                       (click for ->online user guide manual)
http://www.evological.com/evocam3.html   (click for ->explanation of the free trial)
http://www.arborbits.com/icamshare/         (click for ->free trial version)
Although they all operate differently, each of these programs can be configured to perform a variety of tasks.  The FAQs, downloadable user guides, free trial, etc. for these apps will let you decide which, if any, can do what you need.  Unless you get a specific answer that works for you, you will need to do as much research or evaluation as is necessary to decide whether any of the apps are right for you.
If none of them does what you want, I suggest you ask your Apple retailer whether he has (or can recommend) any MacOSX10.4-compatible software that meets your needs.

  • Uses for spare iSight cameras

I have 2 spare iSight cameras here.
Can anyone suggest any novel uses for them?
    Andy

I think you'll find that the iSight cameras are a superior alternative to analog cameras and converters because they work out of the box, don't require strange drivers that may not work when OS X is updated, and have very clear pictures in bright light. Of course you need to have the correct number of free FireWire ports to make it practical. There are firewire port expanders/replicaters available from 3rd party vendors as well as firewire to firewire repeaters if you max out your run lengths beyond what a single cable can reach. That's the only difficult part about using FireWire cameras for home security. If the computer is centrally located where one camera can view a major hallway and another can cover the more likely entrance door to be intruded upon (like back yard doors etc), then you are covering your major bases.
The software allows you to upload pictures or streaming video files (like mpeg 4 and more) to a secure repository on the Internet in real time, in case someone steals the computer that you use for security. Myself I dedicated an older iMac G4 to view my driveway and view the doorway in the room leading up to it so if someone does get access to the security computer, I'll have photographic evidence of who did it stored online on my iDisk..
The options for image processing to detect wether there is motion in a relevant part of an image is quite extensive. Beyond mere square areas of interest or avoidance, you can also opt to selectively paint the image as to which areas it should watch for movement to avoid false alarms...
If you have multiple Macs in your home, you can use the built-in iSight cameras on any networked Macs to provide interior security for whatever they face like remote cameras to the main security Mac. To do this, you must provide a 1 camera license for each Mac you use as a remote camera, so choose carefully how you want to license the software because it won't allow you to run more copies of the software or more cameras than you are licensed for... Here's the link:
    http://www.securityspy.com/
I consider it one of the best software solutions for home security. I would even say it would be appropriate to use for small commercial applications as well.

  • Suggestions for conference room camera?

I realize this is off topic, but the question is indirectly related to the webcam built-in to the Macbook Pro I use for video conferencing.  Short of investing in professional video conference hardware and software, what types of external cameras can be used with GoToMeeting or Skype to simulate a video conference experience.  We are wanting to have a team of people in one meeting location connect with another team of people.  Macbook Pro webcams are difficult to position to get a whole team. I want something does wide angle and is Mac OS X compatible.  Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Is it possible to have other recording qualities for iSight camera?

I have just lashed out on +QuickTime Pro+, and the very first time I fired it up I thought: "Oh, Oh, I've wasted my money". Every other program I tried before I decided on QT Pro had the ability to use a variety of recording-quality settings for the iSight camera. With QT Pro I get just three:
    * MPEG-4 (320 x 240, ~ 264 kb/s)
    * H-264 (320 x 240, ~256 kb/s)
    * Native (640 x 480, 90 Mbits/s)
Not much of a variety. You either choose the low settings, or jump to the high setting at almost 400 times the data rate.
Is it possible to obtain a few more settings ( i.e. 640 x 480 using H.264) via third-party software or other technique?
Also, can I turn off sound recording if I so wish?

Thanks, RickToronto, for the suggestion about +QT Broadcaster+. A nifty little program and I'm sure I'm going to be able to put it to use sometime, but after testing the various compression options at 640 x 480, including NONE, I could not get the frame rate greater than about 10, whereas using the NONE option in +QT Pro+ allowed me to get 640 x 480 at 18 fps. There must be a fair amount of overhead in using +QT broadcaster+.
Looks like I'll be sticking to +QT Pro+, recording using the NATIVE option, then compressing afterwards. Doing that certainly shows up the amount of computation needed for compression. It took my G5 about 6 hours to compress one hour of 640 x 480 @ 18fps (~40 GB). And in addition, I got the impression that the output looks better from +QT Pro+ than from +QT Broadcaster+, but that might just be my imagination.
One last matter: one of the options in +QT Broadcaster+ -- the control options for iSight -- look almost identical to those I saw in a program called +BTV Pro+. Would the +BTV Pro+ fellow have 'borrowed' the look from Apple, or has Apple licensed them from him?

If this is the TimeFox you are posting about, I don't understand why you think there might be any connection to an iSight camera.  Please explain further.

Not sure I understand your question because Photo Booth is "fun" software for iSight.
However, you can use any OS X image editor application to modify images
(cud put hats on make cool faces and stuff) you have captured
with your iSight. The editor app I use is Adobe PhotoShop Elements.

Be sure to check system requirements for compatibility with your system.

  • Using the isight camera in the bootcamp setup with windows 8.1

    Hi
I am running OSX Maverick in a bootcamp setup with Windows 8.1 and have played around with the isight camera but I would like to know what folder the photo's/video's are sent to?
Also, are there any settings or user guide for the isight camera in Windows 8.1?
    Thanks

I don't use Boot Camp, but does anything here help you? Boot Camp - Apple Support.
My look there did not show anything about the new Windows 8.1.  The latest I saw was Windows 8.
Brave01Heart wrote: ... what folder the photo's/video's are sent to?...
The answer will be wherever the app you are iusing for the capture stores them unless you change the default location.  This answer is the same for either Windows or Apple operating systems.

  • Can't Get External iSight Camera to Work in XP Pro.

I just installed XP SP2 via Boot Camp on my Mac Pro. I had trouble getting the Boot Camp Drivers Wizard to complete. It would freeze.
After I disconnected my iSight Camera and Apple USB Modem, I was able to get the wizard to complete.
But on reboot I still see Found New Hardware Wizard.
I also still see question marks beside my iSight Camera in Device Manager.
I tried to run the Apple Booot Camp Driver Wizard again using the REPAIR option. Same problem..
    Any Ideas?
    Rob

It looks like Apple does NOT provide any Bootcamp drivers for EXTERNAL iSight cameras.
I am out of luck!! Pity!!
    From wikipedia:
"Microsoft Windows XP and Vista will autodetect an external iSight camera as “1394 Desktop Video Camera”, but no specific iSight driver exists for Windows"
    see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISight
If someone knows of a Windows driver that will work with an EXTERNAL iSight camera, please let me know.

  • Is ichat software required for stand alone isight camera to work?

Trying to use an isight  stand alone camera with a new mac mini. It will sometimes take a random picture in Phto Booth but I really can't get it to do anything in Photo Booth , Face time, or imovie. In support it says that you have to have iChat on your computer to allow the camera to work in other applications. I don't have iChat and I can't find it as a download.
I would appreciate any information on this.

explasticman wrote:... I ...try the iSight on my wife's Macbook Pro... It works...
Good work on the troubleshooting.  You have now ruled out possible connection problems except for possible problems with your new mini's FW800 port.  If you have or can borrow another FW device, you can try connecting it to your mini with the same cables and adapter to verify that mini's port is working.
explasticman wrote: ... It now seems like it must have to do with 10.8.5 on my new computer....
If you still believe this, use your Mac's  > Software Update... menu command and apply any needed updates.
I suggest you restart Mac and use Disk Utility to repair permissions before downloading and installing the (3 October) OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo) update.  Repair permissions AGAIN immediately following the restart that completes the Combo Update.
If your problem continues, use OS X Recovery to reinstall Mac OS X Mountain Lion.  Then use  > Software Update… to verify that all your software is up to date.  Install any needed updates and repair permissions one more time regardless of whether additional updates are required after reinstalling OS X.
explasticman wrote: ... Is messages really just like iChat?...
No, not "just like" iChat.  However, Messages is the replacement for iChat.
For summary info about Messages, see this linked page.  For details, you can read all about Messages and compare it to your iChat experience using your mini's Messages > Help > Messages Help  menu command.

If nothing else works, your service options for external iSight are shown

jpatricio787 wrote: ... is it possible to use it with my white MacBook ?...
OK so yes, but if, and only if:
    (1) your MacBook has a Firewire port (not all do)
        - and -
    (2) your old external iSight camera works (not all do)
        - and -
    (3) your MacBook is working properly.
If you are not certain whether your MacBook model has Firewire, you can search MacBook Technical Specifications for your model.  Alternatively, check the  User Guide Manual that came with your MacBook for the information you need to be certain.
If you are not certain that your old external iSight camera works, you can test it using the suggestions in this link.
jpatricio787 wrote: ... if so how do I go about it ? ...
Follow the instructions in your iSight User's Guide to connect and turn on the iSight.  Then launch the Apple app you want to use with your iSight.  If you need more information about using an app, search for "camera" (without the quote marks) in the Help menu choice for the app.
jpatricio787 wrote:... Can someone give me some direction ?
If you need more direction, post back the specifics of what you still need.  We will offer further direction based on the details of your reply.
