SUN JRE 1.3.1 slow JPEG file loading

helo,
I've developped an applet wich load jpeg files and display them on screen. I achieve my applet using Microsoft Java SDK 4.0 and all was fine. But my boss told me that the applet has to be run within the sun jre 1.3.1 plugin. When I test my applet with the sun plugin, it was horribly slow!!
I wrote a little java app in order to compare the two jvm's. I establish that the Toolkit.getImage (+ media tracker for sync...) method was the main slowing point. I tested the app with 1.18 Mo jpeg files and found following results:
Microsoft jvm : ~24 ms
Sun JRE : ~250 ms
about 10 times slower !!!
What can I do??
Am I stucked??
thanx a lot
cduret

Kayaman, take a relax,
there is no need to insult people. Many posts were written on this forum on "why do people get flamed for asking questions?". But there is no use to tell people they speak like 14 year old or they are from whatever UNI you mentioned in another post. At least don't forget that orher people also lose their time reading your answers. So if you have nothing to tell maybe just skip the topic.

  • JPEG Files in Premiere Getting Mixed Up Within a Project

    JPEG files loaded into my project are getting mixed up.  It's like Premiere can't tell the loaded files apart. That is, I load several JPEGs in to the project, each with a different file name, put them onto the Timeline, and, later, when I click on the file name in the Project panel, several of the different files display the same image of one of the JPEGs in the Poster Frame, the Source Frame, and in the Project Sequence.   The file names remain listed in the Project panel continue to show the correct file name, but several show the same image when selected.
    I assumed something happened when the files were Imported and were now confused in the project.  To try to fix this, I Cleared all of the bad files off the Timeline and out of the Project panel.  Changed the source file names in Windows Explorer (i.e., added an "a" to the file name) and re-Imported the files into Premiere.  It seemed to work, but a little while later, some of the same files, plus some newly Imported files, all turned to the same image again.  I again repeated the Clearing process for the bad files, changed the source file names once again in Windows Explorer, changed the Folder name in Explorer, and again re-Imported the files into Premiere.  Again, after a while several of the files all had changed to the same image on the Timeline, the Poster Frame, and the Source Frame.
    It's like the program has somehow mixed these files up and, whatever caused the mix up, remains persistent even with files that have been renamed.
    This happens to approximately 20 JPEGs out of perhaps 70 JPEGs in the Project.  It has not happened on any previous projects.
    I can't tell if my Premiere (5.0.3) has become corrupted somehow or if this error is limited to this one Project.  Is there a way I can transfer my work into a new project (I really don't want to have to start completely over).
    I'm fairly desperate.  Thanks!

  • Oracle Forms loading slower with Sun JRE in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i

    Hi,
    After Deploying Sun JRE (Native Plug-in) for Windows Clients in Oracle E-Business Suite 11i (Note 290807.1) we find that Oracle Forms are loading slower than using Jinitiator.
    Also the PDF reports are opening in a minimized fashion. Meaning the PDF reports are opening correctly in new browser window (as expected) but is minimized.
    Customer is not willing to go live with Sun JRE due to these issues.
    Plz advice is there is any additional configuration I need to do.
    Rgds,
    Thiru

    When the JRE was installed/configured on the workstations was the jar cache placed on a LAN drive instead of the local drive? We have experienced poor performance with both the JRE and Jinitiator when the Workstation Sysadmins configured the jar cache to be located on a LAN drive. Also is the size of the jar cache on the workstation sufficient to hold all of your required jar files. It could be downloading the jar files all the time.
    Overall our performance with the JRE is comparible to the Jinitiator.
    Sorry I have not experienced the problem that you are having with you pdf reports so I can't provide any comments on it.

  • Why am I being told that a JPEG file that I made changes to in Photoshop 6 (CS6) can't be saved?  The message I get says that either the file is locked and I don't have permission to execute this or another program is using this file.

    i recently purchased a 21.5 iMac with Yosemite (10.10.1) and was disappointed to discover that my CS6 programs are not functioning correctly.  I am unable to use the "Save As" command  when making changes to a JPEG file in Photoshop.  The message I get says that either another program is using the file or it is locked and I don't have permission to execute that command.  I'm experiencing a similar problem in Bridge when trying to move an unwanted file to the Trash.  Again, I get a message telling me that i don't have permission to do this.  Lastly, I'm unable to open any Camera Raw files.  Any suggestions?  I had no problems with the Mavericks OS on my old iMac and although it's much slower, I'm tempted to go back to using my old iMac.  At this point, I feel as if I've just wasted $2300+ (tax included).

    Back up all data before proceeding.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
    Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
    You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
    Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
    Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Logo not displayed in MS JVM to Sun JRE conversion

    Hi,
    We have a small MS JVM version of application which we converted to Sun JRE. It has only one applet (we made it to <Object>). Applet code tries to load a logo using following code
    URL url = getMainApplet().getCodeBase();
    String protocol = url.getProtocol();
    String host = url.getHost();
    String file = url.getFile();
    file = file.concat("images\\weblogo.gif");
    URL imageURL = new URL(protocol,host,file);
    Image weblogoImage = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(imageURL);
    imagePanel = new ImagePanel(weblogoImage);
    //imagePanel.setBounds(7,2,101,47);
    imagePanel.setBounds(4,1,101,47);
    add(imagePanel);
    Some how it works fine with MS JVM but when we use sun jre..logo doent come..no error shown on console...
    Any one has any idea...
    thanks in advance..

    I also have same problem with my WinXP-SP1 and I also had removed MSJVM through the Microsoft utility. Since then I am having problems using Java based sites. To solve this problem I upgraded my JRE from 1.4.1_xx to 1.4.2_04, now the problem is completly different. I am prompted to download Java Virtual Machine which opens a page from Microsoft web site saying that you need MSJVM but then that site works fine, I can use Java applets in that site. If I refuse to download the Java Virtual Machine (which just opens the Microsoft page) then it does not work. Only problem is I am prompted to download Java Virtual Machine and I have to click on Download button.
    I have done everything to solve this problem unistalled JRE..restart..installing JRE...restart..and then checked http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.jsp but problem is still same.
    I am highly frusteated with this. I think there are thousands of users who have same problem and Sun should have taken some initiative to solve this problem for Microsoft is not going to do anything in this regard. I seach Google and various forums and found tens of same problem with unresolved queries. Or Sun has taken any initiative in this regard.
    JRE is working fine in my Firefox browser.
    Thanks

  • Performance of ImageIO.read with jpeg files

    Hi all... I'm pulling my hair out trying to get a seemingly trivial task to work fast in Java. I'm trying to read in a set of jpeg files, and all I really want out of the files (for now) is width and height. The code I'm testing is:
    for(int i = 0; i < fileList.length; i++)
    ImageInputStream iis = ImageIO.createImageInputStream(fileList);
    BufferedImage bi = ImageIO.read(iis);
    The size of the files I'm trying to read varies from between 80k and 150k. Now get this... here's a real shocker for all you jdk1.4.0 fans out there... the ImageIO.read() method takes as long as 4 seconds to read each file! I've got the standard, plain vanilla jdk1.4.0 running on Redhat 7.1, so I'm wondering if this is an issue with the native code method com.sun.imageio.plugins.jpeg.JPEGImageReader.readImage(). The reason I think this is the case is two-fold: 1) I ran -Xrunhprof on this app, and a full 20% of the cpu time is spent in that method. Another 15% is spent in sun.awt.color.CMM.cmmColorConvert(). 2) The same code ran against a directory filled with GIF files runs blazingly fast... the first image decoded takes a second or so, but the next few take milliseconds to decode.
    Is there some optimized native code jpeg readers that I perhaps didn't download? The documentation on this site, to put it bluntly, SUCKS. It's impossible to find any information without resorting to multiple searches, so I highly doubt that I've actually installed everything I should have just by downloading the one installation file for linux. (not the RPM, the one that lets you put it where you want to).
    Any hints or outright solutions to getting jpeg files to be read any faster than this? This shouldn't be rocket science... Every application I've ever seen on any platform up until now can run circles around my pitiful 2 lines of code.
    Thanks for your help!

    you see....I use the ImageReader.readAll(pageIndex, defReadParam) to read from page 'm' to 'n'. The overall performance (speed) is ok. But, the thing is, the thing pauses for some 15 secs approx to read the first page. Then on, it is QUITE fast. Now, if I need to read 500 pages, then the efficiency will be good. But for a single page? The 15 secs is be too long. Anyway I am trying to read a tiff file (which is not too resolute). Guess the first call does smells the ecnoding format to prepare for decoding, etc...But what I want to know is, is there a way to bring down this time. If not, is there any other way to read a tiff page more efficiently? Actually I need to read some pages & write them to a stream...thats all.

  • Using the Sun JRE

    Hi.  We currently force the use for Java 6, version 22 by placing this code in the formsweb.cfg file:
    [code]
    ### Define the default SUN JRE
    ### Java Plug-in 6 22
    jpi_download_page=http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/
    ### Parameter related to the version of the Java Plugin
    jpi_classid=clsid:CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0022-ABCDEFFEDCBA
    ### Parameter related to the version of the Java Plugin
    jpi_codebase=http://java.sun.com/update/1.6.0/jinstall-6u22-windows-i586.cab#Version=1,6,0,22
    ### Parameter related to the version of the Java Plugin
    jpi_mimetype=application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.6.0_22
    [code]
    If I want to change this confirguration so that users always use the latest version of the Sun JRE, how would I modify this code?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi.  Thank you so much!
    Is there a reason I would want to let users use any version of Java 1.6, but not Java 1.7?  Is it not possible to use the same logic, but to allow the users to use any version of Java 1.7?  Or is it unwise for some reason?
    I'm just curious because sometimes my users are automatically prompted to install the latest version of Java, which is version 7, update 45 (I believe).  And when they do that installation then our Web Form applications start to prompt them that they need to install the correct version of the plug-in.  So I uninstall version 7, update 45 and Web Forms is fine again.  Any thoughts on the best way to be handling the Java plug-ins?
    Hello Sharpe,
    Good Day. From your post we don't know what is your application server version. guess 10.x.x.x.x as you are talking about JRE 1.6.
    JRE 1.7 is not compatible with AS 10.x.x.x.
    So, if your user wish to install JRE 1.7, make sure JRE 1.6 also installed in the same pc. Now what can you do ? Yes. you can restrict a web browser to run only selected Java plugins not other one. You can manage this from Add-Ons manage settings.
    This restrict user, use specific browser for you application.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I stop lightroom from modifying JPEG files?

    During the Beta phase, I pretty much used lightroom only on RAW files. Now, with V1.0, I have had occassion to use this program on JPEGS produced by a P&S camera.
    Hmmm. It appears that lightroom is writing data to the files. . .Is there anyway to force the program to use independent sidecar files, like it does for RAW? Manipulating JPEGS is a *major* draw back.
    (So far. . I have been smart enough to only feed lightroom *copies* of files. . .so no data has been corrupted yet)
    Thanks for your help.

    Yes, Lightroom V1.0 is DEFINATLY writing data to JPEG files.
    I would VERY STRONGLY prefer sidecar files, as I do not want to ever modify the "as shot" files.
    Simply NOT USING the sidecar data, however, is silly. How else do you know what has been done to the images? I have now developed the following (really cludgy yet effective) work practice:
    1) When storing files, I immediately create a "modified" and "Original" image directory. (Yes, this effectively DOUBLES storage requirements).
    2) The original files are immediately tagged as "read only" within XP. This stops (I hope) lightroom from messing with them if I make a mistake.
    3) I import the "modified" files into lightroom for image handling. I allow lightroom to modify these files to it's hearts content.
    This seems to be working well for me. I have had to move some directories around, and have "reimported" the modified JPEGs into lightroom: Lightroom correctly (I think) maintained all the edits from my original pass at the files. I have not checked if the histories are lost. . .but that is not a big deal, as I only care about the end result.
    BUT. . . I still would STRONGLY prefer a sidecar file.
    PS: This is my biggest nit-pick with lightroom so far. Except that I suspect that Lightroom V1.0 (with 200 images in the library so for) appears slower than Lightroom B4.1

  • Suddenly can't open some of my jpeg files, says error-43

    Dear All,
    I'm currently using OS X Leopard 10.5.1. I have a NTFS formatted HDD connected to my OSX, to store and share data with another Windows PC in my network. I installed MacFuse and NTFS-3G to enabled me to write and read from that particular HDD.
    Recently, I found out that some of my jpeg files and a particular zipped files can't be accessed. When I tried to access it, it says "Unknown error-43" or similar.
    When I tried to delete it, it can't be deleted (can't be copied or anything else). Tried to drag it to Desktop, but it doesn't allow me to (it shows a small icon of the "not allowed" sign). I also noticed that in my trash bin there's a file that can't be cleaned as well (even though I tried to emptied the trash), the file name is some weird characters and ends in .?: or something. If I dragged that file to Desktop, it'll be gone and trash emptied, but if I tried to access one of the "missing jpegs" file, it'll show up again.
    I also connect another external HDD for my Time Machine, but when I found out it performs so slow and tend to freeze my Mac, I disconnect it and stop using Time Machine. When I connect the HDD again, it doesn't backed up the file I'm trying to find.
    What gives? Any thoughts would be appreciated

    The error, 43 is a "file not found" error or some such similar thing:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1618
    It sounds as if the file has become corrupted and while it shows up in the directory it may not exist or it may be corrupted.
    I suggest that you deal with these files in the Windows environment. In OS-X they sometimes show up as "ghost" files when trashed, because the trash bins are "shared" and OS-X cannot delete a Windows file even though it can be put into the trash.
    Accessing files between Windows and Leopard must be done very carefully since each OS may "touch" the file and change it in some way that the other OS cannot deal with it, as you may be finding out.
    It's best to copy a file into OS-X and then deal with it, and vice-versa when in Windows, and never directly access it with another app.

  • R12 and Sun JRE question

    Just a quick question related to the Sun JRE and R12 .. We recently upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.3 ..
    We are still in testing mode but everything appears to be working fine so far ..
    One thing we noticed is that we are using the Sun JRE 1.6_18 on our PC's and we have 1.6_07 on the Web server environment files.
    ex: in the .xml s_sun_plugin_ver">1.6.0_07
    We also had to disable the Next Generation feature in the SUN JRE 1.6_18 because of different issues already known in metalink.
    As far as I know the Sun JRE version in the Webserver only indicates the lowest version that can be used on PC's, all our PC use version 1.6.0_18
    Is there any advantage in running the "txkSetPLugin.sh 16018" to bring the Webserver at 1.6.0_18 instead of 1.6.0_07 ?
    Or can we just leave the webserver version at 1.6.0_07 ? as all our PC's use only one version of the Sun JRE which is 1.6.0._18
    Thanks

    When reading note 393931.1, it appears that the version in the Webserver config files, only dicates the lowest version that can be used on the PCs , in our case we only have one version 1.6_18 on our PCs , so I assume that having version 1.6_07 or 1.6_18 in the Web config files should not make any difference in our case ?It is always recommended you have the same version of Jinitiator/JRE on the web server and the client machines. Not sure about the list of advantages, so you may log a SR for this.
    Also Note 393931.1 mentions patch 4377566, but the readme for this patch mentions the following:
    APPLICATIONS INTEROPERABILITY PATCH FOR JRE1.5.0_x PLUGIN
    So is this patch also applicable to JRE 1.6 ?This is a small patch, so I would recommend applying it.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Saving a JPEG file for printing

    When saving a JPEG file for printing using Elements9, should one use "baseline standard, optimized or progressive"?

    Thanks, Andromeda....  I see that PSE8 Organizer has the ability to update the Caption as you have described.  The caption appears in the Description field in the General area and in the Description field in the IPTC area of the image file.  I was unable to update the Title or any other fields using Organizer.  Looks like PSE8 Editor must be used to update all the metadata fields in the image file.  Thus far, the only way I have been able to update the metadata in a JPEG file without having to re-compress it is with a HEX editor.  This, however, is a slow process at best.  Too bad Organizer or Editor does not provide the abilty to update all fields in the metadata without having to recompress the file.  I am not a programmer; however, it would appear to be a fairly straight-forward process.  Thanks, again.

  • Creating GIF or JPEG files

    Is it possible to render a graphic object into a GIF or JPEG file and save it in a Java application?
    Thanks.

    For JPEG:
    1) Try JAI (http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jai/) or the Java Image I/O from JDK 1.4.
    2) Try PJA (www.eteks.com)
    There is a pitfall if you want to do imaging in a Unix/Linux machine and the Java program can not access a X Server (maybe the machine is not running X). In this case you must install a "fake X Server", or use PJA.
    For GIF:
    Due to LZW patent problems with GIF compression the packages that generate GIF files have(had) to get a Unisys license.
