Sun8.1 app server's behavior problem

Sun8.1 app server's behavior is not good. I tried with the following scenario's.
1. Undelpoy one project: When I'm trying to undeploy one project, it is able to undeploy but, it is not able
to remove folder from <<C:\Sun81>>\AppServer\domains\domain1\applications\j2ee-apps\
If we don't remove this folder, when we try to deploy same project again, it is giving problem.
Solution: we need to shutdown our app server, go to above folder and remove undeployed project.
2. Undeploy multiple projects: When we are trying to undeploy multiple projects, server is undeploying one or two projects(not consistent)
and it is not undeploying remaining projects.
And some times it is not able to clean domain.xml (Path: <<C:\Sun81>>\AppServer\domains\domain1\config\domain.xml) properly. This means for each project there will be two entries(j2ee-application&application-ref) in domain.xml, server is removing one entry and not removing another entry.
3. Disable/Enable problem: When we are deploying first time, project is working. If we disable our project and enable it again, project is not working.
If we restart app server, project is working fine.

We all have this problem.... while I was not around. ;-)

    Most likely there is a problem in your configuration, such that the admin service could not get started (didn't you originally get a 505 error?)  Check your logs: admin and Tomcat (usually catalina.log) for any errors and fix the problems indicated in the logs.

    Well just for kicks and grins I decided a good old reboot might be in order - the J2EE install didn't ask for one but this is Windows after all - it cant change it's mind without a reboot. So we get a bit futher after the reboot.

  • Problems between IDE and Deployment on App Server 8.2

    I have an application that I wrote last year using JSC-EA and converted it ti JSC2-1. I can run the application on my development environment SunAppServer 8.2 with no problems.
    When I attempt to deploy it to a standalone Sun App Server 8.2 I experience the following:
    1) Login page works fine
    2) Main menu selection page works fine
    3) Results page does not display information.
    More details:
    Main Menu page consists of:
    1) a page with a page fragment that contains a menu.
    2) 3 or 4 JSF components
    Results page consists of:
    1) 2-3 JSF text components (display OK)
    2) Same menu page fragment as above (displays OK)
    3) Second page fragment that contains a table with components added under program control (does not get displayed in deployment server, but displays fine in IDE server).
    Is there ANY possibility that this can be related to migration from JSC2-EA to JSC2-1? If so, what could cause this behavior?
    Is there ANY explanation as to why the application displays OK in the IDE (same app server version as deployment) but not in the deployment server?
    ANY help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

    For future references:
    this happens to me too and I found that the cause is that the AM server you are going to configure, is already registered into the directory server.
    Try running this command (with the obvious parameters substituted)
    ldapsearch -B -T -D 'cn=directory manager' -w YOUR_CREDENTIALS -b ou=1.0,ou=iPlanetAMPlatformService,ou=services,YOUR_BASEDN -s base objectclass=* | grep YOUR_SERVERNAMEIf you found that the server you are configuring is listed here try going to AMserver console (if you have another AMserver configured) and browse to Configuration->System Properties->Platforms. If the server is here, remove it, if not, just hit Save (very important).
    If this is your first AM and is a first installation you can just get rid of the Directory Server suffix and recreate it with the Top Entry alone.

    I imagine you ended up having to upgrade 10gR2 to 10gR3 at least. Correct?

    Can some guide me with this problem please ?
    Anything one might have observed in the past ? (may be specific to iPlanet ?)
    Thanks a lot in advance
    ~Sunil

    I'm using iPlanet App server as well and experiencing similar problem. I load my SQL Server driver by Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver"), then use DriverManager.getDriver() to obtain the Driver.
    However, the Driver returned is not the SQLServerDriver as expected. The Driver returned is com.netscape.server.jdbc.Driver! And then when I do Driver.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://MyServer"), it throws an SQLException saying that it doesn't accept a jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver subprotocol. Well, of course it doesn't, it's not a microsoft Driver at all.
    I suspect the problem is that the netscape Driver's acceptsURL() method ALWAYS returns true in iPlanet app server, thus when you getDriver(), the netscape Driver is always returned (and always returned as the first one since it's default?). Thus even though the same piece of code works fine as a standalone application, it just doesn't work on iPlanet app server.
    My work around is:
    Class.forName("my.Driver");
    Enumeration enu = DriverManager.getDrivers();
    Driver useThis = null;
    while (enu.hasMoreElements()) {
    Driver d = (Driver)enu.nextElement();
    if (d.getClass().toString().indexOf("my.Driver") > -1) {
    useThis = d;
    Mind that my above code does not have an performance issue. If you look into the source code of how DriverManager get a Driver for a particular URL, it also loads the whole set of available Drivers, then call acceptsURL() method on each of them to find the first "suitable" one. Thus time complexity is the same.
    I know this is not a very elegant solution and it defeats the purpose of having a DriverManager. Does any one else has a better way to solve this problem, like a way to specify the priority of each Driver so that SQLServerDriver is returned before the netscape Driver?
    Thanks a lot.

  • App Server 8 Problem

    I have sun app server v8 installed on a winXP Pro laptop (I just want to take the J2EE tutorial). My problem is that when I bring up a command prompt and type asadmin to start the app server it gives me error "The system cannot find the path specified". When I echo the PATH variable I see "C:\Sun\AppServer\bin" in there (which corresponds to the directory on my machine with file asadmin.bat in it). It's interesting that when I type "asant" I get this message:
    C:\Sun\AppServer\bin>asant
    Warning: JAVA_HOME environment variable is not set.
    If build fails because sun.* classes could not be found
    you will need to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable
    to the installation directory of java.
    Buildfile: build.xml does not exist!
    Build failed
    C:\Sun\AppServer\bin>
    I did upgrade my jdk from 1.4 to 1.5 so maybe that's the problem although my JAVA_HOME is set to "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_01" which is the correct dir for my java install.
    I can't even type "asant.bat" in directory "C:\Sun\AppServer\bin" either so I'm really confused as to what's going on.
    Any ideas? Much appreciated

    same thing happened to me...I set the JAVA_HOME value correctly..rechecked it using echo...
    but I recvd the same mesg...cannot find path...

    You haven;t specified the exceptions you r getting ........while starting your default server.
    if u r getting exception about InetClass then connect your system with LAN/Internet then your problem will be solved becoz i m using same location address as you specified, space doesn't matter at all - i think so, it is running fine........

  • Problems in Sunjava App Server

    hi frnds,
    Whenever i start the deploy tool that is there in Sun Java App Server i get an error message stating that the main class file is not found. How do i rectify this problem. I have the latest App server which i downloaded from the sun site. I hvent installed J2ee seperately as such. I remember to c tht it comes bundled with the app server.Is there any problem in tht. Please do reply to my mail
    With Regards
    Ajay

    There is no special PATH/CLASSPATH setting required to start the deploytool. One possible reason for your problem could be that the environment was not defined properly in <install_dir>/config/asenv.conf during install time (possibly due to some error during install time). This can lead to the deploytool not being able to find the main class. Was there any error during installation of the app server ? You might want to check the asenv.conf file to see if it has been set properly. If not, you might have to uninstall and do a fresh installation of the app server again.

  • Problem : App works with Sun App server 8.0 but fails with 8.1

    Hi All
         I am experiencing some strange problem with executing my JSF application with Sun App Server.
         I have an EAR deployed on Sun Application Server 8.0 and 8.1.
         Strangely it works quite fine with 8.0 but fails with 8.1.
         In my JSP page ..I have a dummy component whose getter method is used as a "FormLoad" event of the page.
         <h:form id="imageForm" enctype="multipart/form-data">
         <h:messages showDetail="true" />
         <table width="980" border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#A9B8C2">
              <tr>
    <td>
                   <h:inputHidden value="#{Screen1.initializeService}"/>
              <h:selectOneListbox styleClass="style2" id="cmbMiddleArea" immediate="true" value="#{Screen1.selectedMiddleArea}">
              <f:selectItems value="#{Screen1.middleAreaList}" />
         </h:selectOneListbox>
         In my backing bean i have ..
         public String getInitializeService() {
              ..... Retrieve all the data from DB to initialize all the components on the JSP page
              .......setMiddleAreaList......
              .......setSelectedMiddleArea.....
              ........set the values of the individal component...
         I am retrieving all the data from DB in this getter method and intializing the components on the JSP page.
         I have also checked the code generated for JSP by both the servers.I am posting the code here for reference although
         i did not find any significant difference between the two...
         For Server 8.0
         private boolean jspxmeth_h_inputHidden_0(javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.JspTag jspxth_h_form_0, PageContext jspxpage_context)
         throws Throwable {
         JspWriter out = jspxpage_context.getOut();
         // h:inputHidden
         com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag jspxth_h_inputHidden_0 = (com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag) jspxtagPool_h_inputHidden_value.get(com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag.class);
         jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setPageContext(_jspx_page_context);
         jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setParent((javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.Tag) jspxth_h_form_0);
         jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setValue("#{searchBean.initializeService}");
         int jspxeval_h_inputHidden_0 = jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.doStartTag();
         if (_jspx_th_h_inputHidden_0.doEndTag() == javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.Tag.SKIP_PAGE)
         return true;
         jspxtagPool_h_inputHidden_value.reuse(_jspx_th_h_inputHidden_0);
         return false;
         For Server 8.1
         private boolean jspxmeth_h_inputHidden_0(javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.JspTag jspxth_h_form_0, PageContext jspxpage_context)
         throws Throwable {
         PageContext pageContext = jspxpage_context;
         JspWriter out = jspxpage_context.getOut();
         // h:inputHidden
         com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag jspxth_h_inputHidden_0 = (com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag) jspxtagPool_h_inputHidden_value_nobody.get(com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.InputHiddenTag.class);
         jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setPageContext(_jspx_page_context);
         jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setParent((javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.Tag) jspxth_h_form_0);
         jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.setValue("#{searchBean.initializeService}");
         int jspxeval_h_inputHidden_0 = jspxth_h_inputHidden_0.doStartTag();
         if (_jspx_th_h_inputHidden_0.doEndTag() == javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.Tag.SKIP_PAGE)
         return true;
         jspxtagPool_h_inputHidden_value_nobody.reuse(_jspx_th_h_inputHidden_0);
         return false;
         Now the actual problem is "getInitializeService" method never gets called when i deploy and run the application on Sun App Server8.1
         However with Sun App Server 8.0 it woeks perfectly fine.
         Can anybody help me in resolving these issues ?

    Actually generated JSP code can be referred as ...
    For Server 8.0
         private boolean jspxmeth_h_inputHidden_0(javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.JspTag jspxth_h_form_0, PageContext jspxpage_context)

         return true;
         jspxtagPool_h_inputHidden_value.reuse(_jspx_th_h_inputHidden_0);
         return false;
         For Server 8.1
         private boolean jspxmeth_h_inputHidden_0(javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.JspTag jspxth_h_form_0, PageContext jspxpage_context)
         throws Throwable {

    Do you have any ideas on this problem? Thanks.

    Try asking the Customer to fire up the JNDI browser in the admin console and try to browse the JNDI tree.
    What class is the InitialContext.lookup() happening in? Is that getting executed in the servlet class or a standalone client?
    thanks.

    Hi,
    Do you see the deployed web application either in the admin console on in the runtime tab explorer of NetBeans, under the
    Sun Java System Application Server 8 --->Applications--->Web Applications
    node?
    503 error is a Service unavailable error:
    "The server is currently unable to handle the HTTP request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. The implication is that this is a temporary condition which will be alleviated after some delay. "
    Can you try to reload the page for this web app?
