Support is a joke and a hassle and my 2 month problem is still ongoing.

  Ok, about two months ago, my router began booting all devices in the house off the network. It says on the iPhone, Ipad, macbook, PS3, and laptops that we ARE connected, but there is no internet available. Speed tests wont see out, the DSL and Internet lights are green. I can't even open the 192 router, despite being connected.
    -Making a note, around the same timeframe (hindsight now) , I had the Genie whole home dvr installed by DirecTV, which uses the router.. the only thing different in my house in years.
   Anyway, this problem began a few months ago. It's an easy fix, unplug the router, and plug back in.... everything is better.
But It's become annoying. Sometimes it's a few times a day, sometimes it's 3 or 4 days between. The PS3 boots you from online games, any online class you are taking needs to be restarted, projects based from an online server get lost..
I called support... they assured me the line is clean, no problems on their end, must be my router. They sent a new D-Link router about 6 weeks ago. Same problems. I have called at least a half dozen times to support, while the issue is going on,so they can look at it. The tell me to unplug the router... YES I tell them.. I KNOW THAT.. HOWEVER IF I DO THAT THE PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE ANYTHING WRONG. *ugh*
  I called again, last Sunday. I actually got an English speaking tech that was great. We went through several things. He was stumped, so we restarted the router and said he would put a monitor on my line for seven days. Just to keep an eye for anything odd. I said great, because it may not happen again for hours, or days.
Apparently, seven days means TWO. Some contractor with a wonderful broken English accent who I assume is halfway around the world calls my house on TUESDAY. I'm not home and my wife is clueless on the tech side... she tells him I'm not there. He proceeds to call my cell phone. I was on a business trip. He calls and asks me if its fixed. I said I had no idea. I'M NOT HOME. The he insists that it is, they had 'adjusted something at the CO and fixed my speed.'
   I told him it was supposed to be montiored for SEVEN DAYS. "Oh, no, it's fixed sir."
I get home today to find.. shocker.. NO INTERNET. And my daughter tells me she had to reset the router twice since Sunday while I was gone. 
I call tech support AGAIN... have to explain the whole problem AGAIN to 'Annie' (yea, right). Annie, of course wants me to go through the same things I have gone through EVERY DAMNNED CALL.. eventually going to the 'well sir can you unplug the router for 15 seconds and replug it back in."  NO ANNIE, I'M NOT DOING THAT... THE PROBLEM IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW, AND IF I RESET THE ROUTER IT WILL GO AWAY AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SEE ANYTHING. IS THERE NOTHING ELSE TO DO???????
     "Ok, lets set the router back to default settings." Jeeeeeezzus. NO. This is the second router. I've had both back to default and it fixed nothing. Then I get to re-enter passwords and rename and reset POP servers and blah blah blah. I hung up.
    Every single call, I have mentioned my Genie DVR. Not one of the techs ever had me check anything to do with it. It may be nothing, but it seems suspicious to me. Every call, I get the same damnned questions and solutions. Don't you people take and log case notes?  And how does one foreign contractor in a call center in Dehli (or wherever) have the ability to take down a 7 day monitor in two days?? I'm sure the ticket was flagged as delinquent or something.
    Regardless... I have the same problem that I had 2 months ago, and these confused tech support people with their printed-out, cookie cutter answer sheets are incapable or unable to walk through anything besides inital setup/unplug/reset. I'm **bleep** now, and if I had ay other option for internet, rest assured, I'd be gone.
I apologize for the lenght of this rant, but if I don't spout off now, I'll just keep calling tech support and getting more angry.

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Please go to your profile page for the forum, and look in the middle, right at the top where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases".  You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under “My Support Cases” you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information.  This should be checked on a frequent basis  as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.

    Sorry for short novel I am writing.  I just wanted to cover as much backround as possible.
    So, here it goes.  I backed up my iphone 4 after renting a movie.  The movie only played the starting credits before I was called on for daddy duty.  A few days later the movie would not play, so I restored my phone from my backup.  The movie would still would not play so itunes support refunded my purchase and ended my viewing privileges for that rental after verifying that I had not viewed the movie.  I then had a problem with my contacts showing up twice in the contacts list after the restore.  So I attempted another restore.  All was well at this point.  I then started having trouble with my pc and decided to copy the internal drive to an external source.  A week later I had a system failure and did a factory restore on my computer.  I re-installed itunes and tried to copy and paste the old backup into the new itunes.  Now itunes just flat out does not see the backup file (I failed to mention that I did a factory reset on the iphone after the last backup, hopping to start fresh).  Tech support had me uninstall and re-install itunes and then copy and paste the old backup into the newly installed itunes with no luck.  The files are all there, but itunes just doesn't see them (itunes says the device has not been backed up to the cloud or to the local machine).  We then tried backing up the factory restored iphone and replacing that restore file with one of my old backups on the external drive.  Ok, this is where it gets weird.  We replaced the guts of the folder but left the folder itself so itunes would continue to recognize the new backup folder with the old files.  Whoohoo, itunes now see's a backup folder full of old files, or so we thought.  The new files were deleted using shift delete so they would be gone for good and not mix with any files or folders.  When I restore my phone, it restores the files that were deleted from the restore file (pause here for a moment and imagine the stupid look on the face of tech support and I while we silently wonder how files that were permanently deleted were restored).  This left tech support and I both scratching our heads.  My service issue was escalated to the next level.  I waited for the phone call the next day that was scheduled at 10am to my wife's phone, but the call never came through.  As usual, apple disappoints again.  I just bought an iphone 5s and still have the iphone 4, and am looking for a solution to retrieve my contacts and restore to the 4 or 5s.  I am guessing that files in other folders must be associated with the iphone backup in order for itunes to retrieve the files.  Any ideas or support in retrieving my contacts would be greatly appreciated.

    1. It is never a good idea to include personal info like your email address or Apple ID in a post on an open forum.
    2. The email you received DOES NOT say your Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPad. The email informs you that your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad. Fortunately the iPad is yours. The message confirms that. If your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad that was not yours your would then know to change your password. Since the iPad is yours you do not need to change your password.

  • How do you reset the security questions when you havent used a credit card to make any purchases, only the gift cards. Apple support will not help me even though i know my account and apple id and password?

    Have a new computer and now cannot access itunes without knowing the answers to the security questions. Apple support cannot reset as we have never used a credit card when purchasing prior, have only used gift cards. Can provide apple id and password and all other account details but still no help. Have we to open a new3 account and start again, this means losing a lot of credit on the existing account?!

    I have the same problem. I didn't set a rescue email for some reason. To find out weather you hav a rescue password: Go to appleid.apple.com, sign in, go to manage account and then password and security if you do there will be a link below telling you that you can send an email to it. If not the link won't be there. Hope this helps.

    Oracle needs to come out with a Mac & Linux Beta built, or let developers know the real story behind Mac OS and Javafx 2.0.

    I too would like to at least be able to try the Mac/Linux ports, even knowing that they are behind the Windows version. But just knowing that Oracle is committed to them is enough to ease any nervous feeling that I'm choosing the wrong tech.
    I have no problems with the fact that Oracle is concentrating on Windows first. It makes sense. If you have to pick one platform to focus on while you are getting the kinks out, it makes sense for it to be the most popular platform. That's Windows. But there mustn't be too long of a wait for the others. (E.g. if they were in a public beta stage when the Windows version is at final release, that would help boost confidence in the platform.)
    So long as they don't make the same mistakes that were made with Swing, where there are too many assumptions that all platforms work the same - so things like Mac's screen menu bar had to be fit in after the fact by Apple using awkward hacks. (I notice that now even popular Linux distros (Ubuntu) are using the screen menu bar concept, though they have managed to fit that into the window manager in such a way that it didn't seem to cause much problems.)

  • "Failed to open midi support library". What is missing? And if so, how do I get it back? What to do?

    I own a new Macbook pro 15" quadcore with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4
    When trying to start software Reason 7 I only get the message "Failed to open midi support library".
    What is missing? And if so, how do I get it back? Reinstalling Mountain Lion did not solve anything.
    What may I do? Is there separate MIDI-drivers or else that Macbook needs to be running audio at all?
    My audiocard Apogee Duet 2 is´nt working well either and I cannot even open the MIDI-window in Mac,
    so that road is blocked. I´ve seen more ppl having problem but found no explaination.
    Some say to remove midi-drivers but that folder is empty (or hidden?) when opening.
    Also, Garage Band cannot open. It´s no problem with graphic apps, only with audio/midi.
    My 2011 Macbook pro13" with OS X Lion runs like a charm. So how can this be? It really puzzles my mind.
    Have thoughts on having OS X Lion on the new Mac as well but will not do it until I know where the real problem is.
    Hope there is an easy fix to it. Thanks in advance.

    When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

    That is one run-on sentence.
    Did you restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup? If so and there is a problem with your iPhone's backup, restoring from the backup will also restore the problems.
    Try restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from the backup to see if this makes any difference.
    If not, Apple doesn't provide support via email. You can call AppleCare if available in your country, or make an appointment at an Apple store if an Apple store is available in your country and there is one nearby, and if not you go through your carrier for support and warranty coverage if needed.

    composite don't support mirror so it will only display on the tv when the app being used support tvout option
    the build in video app does so it should display on the tv at least my composite cable does with my iphone4

    Is the English sim from the original carrier as that is usually the message you get with a carrier locked phone.
