SVG workflow is a joke

Hey.
Since Adobe does not provide any good tool for UI design (Photoshop is messy, Fireworks has its memory fatal bug and Illustrator is not pixel perfect with rounding errors wherever you look), I wanted to ask what you would suggest to design for web and mobile.
I try to use SVG as much as possible since Windows 8 supports it very well. Take a look at the workflow and tell me if this is what we all pay for or if I am missing something:
You create your vector artwork.
You copy and paste it on a new artboard.
You break up all symbols because the SVG Save As command does not understand transformations on symbols (bug!)
You choose Save As instead of any other fast options such as Save for Web or Export.
You have to remember the right artboard numbers, because you cannot preselect them.
You manually type the artboard numbers in the text field and click save.
Another dialog opens asking you for the format options
Since the artboard saving dialog is so stupid, you have no chance to OVERWRITE a file under the same file name or under the artboard name. It will always add a pointless prefix.
Because of the previous point you need to go to your folder and manually rename the file to match the artboard name. (delete the prefix)
Repeat with your next SVG.
This workflow is horrible. I can't believe that after years of HTML5 being around this is the only option Adobe offers to export SVGs. Please tell me if I am missing something, if there is a plugin or a Creative  Cloud feature somewhere that makes the workflow as simple as exporting  to bitmaps... Or a different tool from a different company that runs on Windows.

Not to offend you, but are you sure you have the SPAM filter at My Verizon turned on for all of your Verizon email accounts?
I guess I am fortunate right now I am not getting much SPAM, maybe 4-5 a day. But it is extremely rare that any of them get through the Verizon filters and reach my inbox in my Windows Live Mail client. Not too long ago I was getting maybe 50 or more SPAM emails a day caught by the Verizon SPAM filter, but even then very, few, maybe one or two per week, made it through and I had to handle them manually.
I have my SPAM filter set on my primary account to put them into the SPAM folder so that I can verify that no valid messages have been caught by mistake, and it does in fact catch maybe 1 or 2 valid ones a month. On my other accounts, which I use mostly to register for give-aways or whatever, I have the filter set to just discard the SPAM, so I have no idea how much I really get on those addresses.
So really I guess I can't help, except to say that my experience is that the Verizon SPAM filters work very well. I encourage you to check your settings once again at My Verizon to make sure the filters are turned on for all  of your Verizon email accounts.

  • Save as SVG is "expanding" transforms

When I apply a transform (such as a Shear) to an element, say a Rectangle, and save it as SVG, the rectangle is converted to a polygon where the vertices are tranformed by the shear. Due to our SVG workflow, we'd like to preserve the Rect in the SVG where the Rect has the trasform="matrix..." attribute containing the affine shear transform.
Note that the save as SVG operation even gives an error message before saving: "transforms are expanded" (but then it goes ahead and saves anyway.)
Is there any way not to "expand" the transform when saving the SVG?
    Thanks,
    ~ Steve

No. It's AI's old paradigm that favors retaining appearance over editability... .You would have to use otehr programs that possibly retain those transforms.

  • SVG to JavaFX code Converter for Designer-Developer-Workflow

I created an SVG to JavaFX code Converter while working on a project. Although its still a work in progress, it has been so useful for me ever since. Its available at convfx.codebase101.com for anyone that is interested in the Designer-Developer workflow (similar to JavaFX 1.x, which was the inspiration). • Variable color in SVG export

    Hello,
we are in the process of designing a website for one of our customer, with the goal of making them self-sufficient in feeding the site with new products.
One of the feature requires producing custom SVG files which are then rendered to PNG (when the browser doesn't support it correctly, that is most of them including Firefox which doesn't like gradients yet), and the possibility of updating several of the item colors on the fly.
This requires identifying in the source file which colors must be flagged as say, "variablecolor1", "variablecolor2" and so on, with XML entities or some other means.
Think about online visualization of t-shirt color changes.
It's not actually scripting-specific, but nor windows or mac, and maybe there is a scripting solution to it.
Since our customer is using Illustrator to generate their catalog, we wanted to integrate as much as possible with their workflow. AI seems to generate usable SVG files, however, we would like to avoid having to write an error-prone post-processing engine (likely in php) the designer will have to run to assertain which color entries in the files are the one we want to modify. Note possibly another part of the drawing with the same color might not be part of what to change...
A possible option would be creating the SVG with a predefined color, like #0000fe for variablecolor1 or whichever, but they want to have it look with the chosen default colors when not yet changed. Having them produce two versions (one with correct colors and one with hardcoded values for us) seems error prone.
The other option, as said is to run the SVG code through some magic identifying the color values, list them and allow checking which are to change. However this is also possibly error prone.
With a co-worker we checked AI for quite some hours without much luck trying to find something that would allow us to directly flag those colors. The online manual had topics with interesting names but the descriptions weren't really helpful, so we had to test on his machine.
We found about variables in AI, but sadly it seems this doesn't concern colors at all. Text, data and some other things but no color.
Some other palette-swapping functions didn't seem to pass anything when exporting to SVG.
Also, we checked the various option in the SVG export dialog, one exports XML entities, which would seem interesting if it didn't export the whole style of the object, besides it doesn't concern gradients which stay with their hardcoded colors on the gradient stops in the XML code.
I find it odd that no such feature exists to allow variable or named colors in drawing...
Does anyone know about such feature, or think it's possible to script something to easily flag the current object in such a way the SVG export would retain this information ?

Oh, BTW, it technically is not a white background either. It is a transparent background. But the grid is hidden to make it easier to design. For new users this can be deceiving since almost any other app is a white background unless you see the grid like in photoshop. In Illustrator, to fill you are required to have an object.

  • Automator workflow no longer works on 10.7

Hi.  I've been using an Automator workflow for years:  it opens iTunes, looks for a specific radio station, sets iTunes volume, sets Computer volume, starts iTunes playing and runs a small Applescript script to close the folder if it was open.
This has been running for years.  Upgraded to 10.7 and it stopped working.  It seems to launch, but nothing happens.
I recreated the same workflow, and I can run it:  it states that every step is "Completed".  But it really doesn't work!!!
What should I try next?  (Windows 8???)

Hi Frank.  Thanks for the response.
(Mentioning Windows 8 was a joke, as I'm sure you know! ;-)
Here's what the workflow looks like;  you'll note the "all green" log at the bottom!
By the way, when I run it, iTunes does launch;  but it doesn't play anything.  And there IS a WCPE entry;  it's a radio station that is in the list of radio stations/Classical and that entry has also been copied to one of my playlists.
The workflow was created as an application and it's run when I power up the Mac.
Thanks for your interest and advice!

  • Loading EMF and Conversion Problem from EMF to SVG in Adobe illustrator CC

    Hello,
I have downloaded trial version of adobe illustrator CC.
I am importing .emf file into adobe illustrator CC. it loads an emf file properly with its content but my emf file contains some lines(--------) also..imported emf file doesn't show any line.
My main motive is convert this emf file into svg file. but as because my emf file is not imported properly, so as with SVG.
Ask one more important thing, why converted svg file from emf appears to be having different fonts and margins.
    Kindly help

The problem is once I finished with the art, I deleted the template, and there's a big art board there and it's in the way, I don't want it to affect the size and dimensions of the channel art. I just need it to be 2560px by 1440px wide, is there any way I can save it exactly like that?
Not sure what you mean by "it's in the way."
The size of the artboard doesn't necessarily affect the "size of the art." (There are some workflow scenarios where the artboard size is recognized and utilized, but for the most part it is simply a 'passive' boundary.)
If your art is 2560px X 1440px, and you want the artboard to match, double-click the artboard tool and choose "Fit to Artwork Bounds" at the top of the preset menu.

  • Muse 2014.2 : when I copy and paste svg from Illustrator to Muse, i have no transparency.

Hello. Muse 2014.2 : when I copy and paste svg from Illustrator to Muse, i have no transparency. Only by importing saved svg file I have transparency.
In official Adobe (promo) Tutorial  in the same operation - svg is transparent, link: Import SVG | Adobe Muse CC tutorials
Please help me!. It would be very usefull copy&paste svg with transparency.
    Andrew Maola

    Hi.
Thank you for explaining the theory about rendering in Muse but something doesn't work.
I'm running on Win7 - CC2014.2. on 2 different computers. Efe Of course the transparency displays correctly when I preview my page in the browsers (All browsers - also IE11).
Also in preview mode svg is very good but in design mode
In order to render the SVG at design time, Muse hands the SVG to Safari on the Mac and Internet Explorer on Windows and asks it for a bitmap. This bitmap is only used at design time and when viewing the site in a browser that does not support SVG. Unfortunately, the bitmap returned by Internet Explorer strips out partial transparency. Fully transparent pixels should be preserved at design time and all transparency should be preserved when you actually view your site in the browser.
We have not seen or heard of differences in the handling of transparent pixels between copy/pasting and save/import. Hence, I'm wondering if the copy/paste issue is only with partially transparent pixels and if the case that succeeds in a save/import workflow is for fully transparent pixels. To be clear, this transparency issue should only be during design time on Windows. There shouldn't be any issues on the Mac or in the browser.
Muse 2014.2 : when I copy and paste svg from Illustrator to Muse, i have no transparency.

  • Workflow: invoice blocked due to quantity (BUS2081)

    Hi all
First let me mention that I'm not a developer but a FI/CO consultant and new in this forum as well. So please excuse if this posting is in the wrong forum of if the question is stupid.
We want to optimize the process of invoice verification. Therefore I implemented the Workflow WS20000397 which works great.
But this workflow only deals with price-blocked invoices. What about the quantity-blocked ones?
For this topic I found no information at all, only the Workflow WS00400026, but I'm not shure if this is still to be used with newer releases (4.7, Basis release 620).
But anyway I tried to connect WS00400026 to BUS2081 in the function "event type linkages" with the event BLOCKEDQUANT where I entered WS00400026 as the receiver type.
Now I'm not shure if this Workflow and the procedure is correct because a) I could not find any information about this and b) the "linkage activated" will automatic deactivated when posting an invoice.
Could someone give me some hints how to deal with the quantity blocked invoices and workflow?
    Thank you and best regards
    Wolfgang

    Hi Joan
Good question. First I tend to use this mail function, but then I decided to implement the workflow because
    a) I was wondering how this works g and it is kind of sexy
    b) I needed already a workflow for the Investment Management and wanted to stick on this technique
    c) later we want to scan incoming invoices where we also will need to work with Workflows
    d) the WF provides some functions like jumping directly to the invoice and order, delete blocking reasons or change the order
    e) the WF could later be modified to cover more or other requirements
Of course the receipant of the Workitem also gets an eMail (via Internet) to let him know about an incoming workitem.
The most time I needed to find out how this works. Now it's just a piece of cake (as long as the SAP-standard WF for this is used without any modifications); would take not more than 15 Minutes to set it up again... no joke. But this depends also on the release you're on.
Of course you have to make a good end user documentation (but you have to anyways for the invoice verification) and about two good flow charts. This together with some trainings really needs the time.
    Bye

  • How to integrate the Process flow design into Workflow?

    Hi Guys,
I created a process flow design in OWB. Now I need to integrate this design into Oracle workflow. How can I implement it? Process flow design is saved as an Jpeg or SVG file. Pls suggest the steps how can I do this? Im new to workflow and owb. Im using OWB 10g.
    Regards
    Kishan

If you deployed the packages to the same location then the second deployment replaced the result of the first one (actually a new version of the process flow was created). You can execute only the latest version...

  • Illustrator crashes when opening Flash-exported SVG

Illustrator (latest CC version) always crashes when I try to open a Flash-exported SVG. It doesn't matter if I try to open it directly or import to a blank document. Other SVGs open well. I've already disabled all non-essential Windows 7 services. Does anyone know a workaround?
    Thanks in advance.

What do Windows services have to do with any of that? I've tried anything that could help at Entre em contato com o Atendimento ao cliente! Maybe you never had any trouble with Illustrator before... The whole thing is as simple as this: any software shouldn't crash while opening a file with incompatible data (it should warn and abort the operation)! And actually Illustrator opens every SVG file correctly, but those exported by Flash Professional. The file data should be correct, since any other SVG-compatible software can open those images. Any software, but Adobe Illustrator... You can see at Re: Is there a way to save out/export vector art from Flash CC to open as vector art in Illustrator CC? that Flash Professional's SVG export feature should allow a Flash-Illustrator workflow. It doesn't, at least on my system. I've described in few words the steps to reproduce the error: latest CC software, Windows 7 system, no matter any other service, export SVG from Flash (tried different options), open with Illustrator, unexpected crash. I haven't attached the files because the forum does not allow this. They're here: http://www.caritasinveritate.teo.br/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/1.svg and http://www.caritasinveritate.teo.br/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/transparencia1.svg

  • PO Workflow with Forecasting & Replenishment

There have been a number of posts about PO workflows either not triggering or triggering multiple times after implementing SAP Notes 764521 and 797775. I have also activated all the linkages mentioned in SAP Notes 595732 and 597784.
BUS2012-releasestepcreated event is triggering wo times
However, it seems like most people have just deleted the BUS2012.ReleaseStepCreated line in SWEC and it has worked.
Has anybody done this in conjunction with SAP Forecasting & Replenishment? If so, can you answer any of these questions, because they are driving me mad!
<b>1.</b> What do I use to trigger my workflow now? Should I delegate FREBUS2012 to BUS2012 and use the new BUS2012.Created event to trigger my copy of WS20000075?
<b>2.</b> If I am going to delegate FREBUS2012 to BUS2012 and I want to extend BUS2012, do I need to create a subtype of FREBUS2012?
<b>3.</b> When I make a significant change, all I'm getting is a BUS2012.Changed event, not a SignificantlyChanged event. Do I need to create an entry for this in SWEC?
<b>4.</b> Have I already gone mental?
Any kind of guidance here would be great.
    Thanks a lot
    Lyal

    Hi Lyal Schumann,
After seeing into the system i found something, i think it may solve your problem, but i am not sure. Try this.
1.What do I use to trigger my workflow now? Should I delegate FREBUS2012 to BUS2012 and use the new BUS2012.Created event to trigger my copy of WS20000075?
In both the business object there is a event called created so use this event to trigger your workflow. " If you see FREBUS2012 it has said that it is subtype of BUS2012 so there is no need to delegate this again.
    2. If I am going to delegate FREBUS2012 to BUS2012 and I want to extend BUS2012, do I need to create a subtype of FREBUS2012?
It depends, if you want to enhance the business object you have to create a subtype of FREBUS2012. But i dont think so it is required.
3.When I make a significant change, all I'm getting is a BUS2012.Changed event, not a SignificantlyChanged event. Do I need to create an entry for this in SWEC?
It is required to create a entry in SWEC for the significantlyChanged event
    4.Have I already gone mental?
I dont know that. Just for joke.

  • Importing photos into Lightroom: Basic workflow

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/lightroom/using/WS427A4C94-2499-456d-8E17-AE09D3316A03.html

    Rob Cole wrote:

"yes, I do solemnly swear that I thoroughly understand the notion of catalog/import, non-destructive editing/xmp, in-camera preview vs. Adobe-rendered raw..."
Until you check that box, you have no choice but to watch the tuturial - sorry: but it's a pre-requisite for successfully using Lightroom. (dj_paige agrees with me, no joke...).
Bottom line: importing is your friend - get to know her.
You're right and probably a tutorial would probably help many users. Maybe it could be suggested as a feature request.
I also understand the Import Dialogue might be a bit intimidating on the first run, but not so much if you take the time to read the manual or give the program a go (or reading the explanations included in the interface). Besides of my own stuff I work on regular basis for 3 photographers/studios and I can tell you most software for pros work in a very similar way to LR (Aperture and ACDSee for example) or you've been thoruigh an archival program (or have an archival system of your own).
I really don't think the difficulty is so much bigger than what PC users experience when switching to Mac, it's a matter of invetsing a little time in getting to know your equipment.
Especially in LR4 I would have said the process is slightly less complicated than in past versions.
I don't fully agree on what you see as the purposes of importing, as most of those features are optional (so not really a main purpose of the import process). If you don't want to bother with them, you don't (although bothering can be VERY effcient).
I think the main purpose of the import is to let LR know what pics you're working with and where they are stored. The rest (making copies, changing locations or formats, adding metadata or settings, backing up etc...) is completely optional. And with the "add" importing option it doesn't matter that establish your file order/hierarchy outside LR as it does not affect it in any way (the images are only incorporated to the catalogue, which is you're just creating pointers or "thumbnails" of those files in LR so that you can access them when needed; the folders remain untouched).
It's not so different a concept form the "recently opened" function in PS, but the catalogue keeps that access permanently unless you remove the the image form the catalogue ((while in PS it keeps a refreshed, limited pointers to the recent files).
To make the Import concept easier to grasp, you can work AS IF the only "difference" from "opening file" in PS for example, was that once you have "opened" your file to LR once, it is always available in the collection without you having to "reopen it" through the program again. I know import is not the same as opening a file elswhere (that's why I'm putting "open" in itallic) , but if you look at both processes as ways of letting your program know what files you want it to aknowledge/work with, it's not so different. If you don't want to take advantage of the database feature you don't have to (although thedatabase will be there for you); if you work with very few files, then you can just select those files you want to "open" in the Import window, just as you would select which files to open through the PS Open command.
I'm not too sure why would one invest in LR if you don't want to take advantage of some of its main features; there are plenty softwares that allow  great retouch, and especially if you're working with small volume of images, you can always switch to diferent applications in order to print or create slideshows/printing layouts etc...
But what allows you to work non destructively in a more efficient way than Photoshop, (and more so if you're dealing with several images) is that for many tasks LR is working with the catalogue, and only really applies the changes to the file on export.
I really think part of the problem is that people get flustered by a differnet interface and because they don't realize you can actually see "import" (especially in the "add" option) as not that different to "open file".
I understand it might be harder to get used to the concept of non-destructive editing, and even more so that "exporting" is necessary in order for the changes to be "seen" in other applications/devices, but how else could you safely keep things non-destructive otherwise without using huge ammount of resources or creating gigantic files?
I've actually adviced some of the photographers I've worked for not to use LR and to go for other applications instead. It all depends on your goals, requirements and workflow, and not because a product is popular or cool means it will work for you. It's like buying a Hasselblad simply because "it's the best", even if all you want is to post your pics online and half the time you work on automatic. Other more simple cameras will do the trick and give you less of a headache.

  • Illustrator CS6 speichern als .svg

    Hallo zusammen,

  • Adobe After Effect Adobe Premiere Workflow

Hi all....I am very confused with how to get a steady and clear workflow between after effects and premiere in cs4.
I've made my edit in premiere and its on one time line as little clips.
I've tried copying and pasting the clip into AE which works, I apply the effects (like colour balance etc) paste back into Pr....and it doesn't paste properly, theres a large white square where the effect should be, almost like premiere doesn't know the layers of AE.
Then I tried dynamic link which actually works.....until I reopened the premiere file today and the 2 clips I'd applied effects to where red with a message saying 'media offline'
The project>link option is faded out by the way!
I have to open AE open the file where I did the effects, and then go back to premiere and goto file>adobe dynamic link>import after effects composition....and then select my file to retrieve the clips and get rid of the message.
So then I save reopen and same problem.....there has to be a way of keeping the editied clips in premiere??????????
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Arvind!

thats what i were pretending since dynamic link came up.
3 weeks ago i visited an Adobe Workshop in Germany, man i tell you no jokes. as it came to show dynamic linking things started to get messed up in the middle of the presentation, then the tutor tried to break it up and switched to Flash Server wokflow, uploading and linking all the stuff together was just a mess. i've grabbed my jacket an left.
The core is somehow working, but the workarounds are still unacceptable if you mention that Adobe pretends that it works flawlessly - but it's not and you're whacked when you're in the middle of a huge project as i was into that nightmare a while ago.
i've sold brand new master collection because of a rant with adobe customer service (how they call it?) and the only two things i bought again was Ae and Ps, working with it - in the oldskool way.
