SWF banners in DW

I have 2 SWF web banners. I need to place them in a table of
a website make in Dreamweaver. How do make Dreamweaver randomly
select the banners? Or, is this something I command in the .FLA
file? Please be as specific as possible as I only know the basics
of Flash and Dreamweaver. Thanks a lot.

You could do either of these, in DW you would write a
Javascript method to choose one or the other at random. However you
could also do this with a loader FLA. Since this is a Flash forum
let's look at that route.
Create a new FLA file the size of your banners. you'd create
an empty MC, and use it to load one or the other swf files at
random. Then you would place all the files in the same directory
and embed the 'loader' SWF file in the DW page.
The code for the loader SWF would look something like this:
Attach Code
stop();
var bArray = ['banner1.swf', 'banner2.swf'];
var mc:MovieClip = this.createEmptyMovieClip('mc', 0);
var choice = Math.round(Math.random()*(bArray.length-1));
mc.loadMovie(bArray[choice]);

Thanks. This works when i preview it locally, but it doesn't
work when i put all the files on the server. the banner area shows
up blank. I embeded the 'loader' FLA in the DW file, then put the
other 2 banner files in the same directory on the server. what am i
missing?

editable region shuld be used carefully :| , u have to creat editable rigion for ur tag which will be used rarely, like header (flash , logo), footer content( those content will not be chaned in all paes), menu bar,. so u will have to fix it in editable region by giving them name,, and after puting editable region creat one template page, so when u will creat new html page, go to new >> u will be asked a dialoug, so go to tamplete tag, and select ur created template, and then change only uneditable region content,, if u wnt to edit ur editable content , go to template page, and change it, ur changes will be taken place in all related pages..

Hi Mahendra, thanks for yr. help but I'm not quite sure I follow u when u refer the 'editable region' option...Do u mean like I should create a template from the homepage and then change only main content? Can you pls elaborate a little further on that?
Thanks

  • Video-animated elements wirhin SWF file

    Hi there...
I have seen some SWF banners which contain not only
flash-made animations but also "inserted" videos elements: like
this website for example: some times ther used to appear a person
saying "welcome, yes, I am going to show you this new Macromedia
product..." or "we are the Macromedia team" or whatever...
Wel I need to create some animation like that because my
customer asked me for a "virtual host person" explaining some
things... Well I already have the video of him... but now.. what ??
How do I crop the person ? how do I insert him inside my
    predseigned Flash banner ?
    Thanks a lot in advance,

Is the person on a green screen, and have you already made
that transparent with After Effects or other software? Then you
have to import your video into Flash 8 and have it converted to
FLV. It may need to be embedded but you could lose audio sync, or
you have to progressively stream it and use cue points to trigger
    events.
All of this greek to you? If so you better visit
www.gotoandlearn.com and watch the tutorials on video
    basics.

  • SWF Playback - Adjusting Framerate?

    Hello everyone,
I'm running into a peculiar issue with Catalyst. I tried searching the forums, but could not find anything specific to the issue I am experiencing:
I created a menu bar with a space for animated swfs at the bottom(banners, etc). I imported the swf banners, set it up to play, and everything appears ok...
...the catch is, Catalyst seems to set its own framerate when playing the animation. I created the banners at the default 12fps in Flash CS3, but the fps doesn't seem to make a difference when I port it over to Catalyst. I tried re-publishing the banners at different fps rates (I even tried setting it to 1fps), but it did not affect the speed of how the banner plays when I take it into & publish it via Catalyst.
Is there a way I can adjust the fps rate in Catalyst? Or, use any kind of Actionscript in the banner swfs to set & keep the framerate at a constant, even when I port it over to Catalyst?
    Thanks in advance!

Flash Catalyst's frame rate is based on the default frame rate in the Flex framework. If memory serves it is set to 24 fps. Flash Catalyst does not expose this value.  You would have to adjust this using Flash Builder, but that might lead to other things not being responsive in the interface. I would recommend recreating the animations to 24 fps.
    Hope this helps,
    Chris

Some one have information about this conflict?

    Hello Faisal,
It may not be referred as wrong practice. At the same time itu2019s really difficult to predict the exact logical reasoning behind this.
I think, if you notice rejection at incoming stage u201CReturn Deliveryu201D is the field that SAP suggest to utilize and if you notice the same after UD it should be through quality notification. But there is no sound base for this statement. Letu2019s wait for the opinions of experts.
    1.     While carrying out incoming inspection when I notice any non conformity and want to send back the material to vendor, I would  utilize the field u201CReturn Deliveryu201D in QA11 which in turn executes 122 movement in background.
    2.     But when I am not sure that immediately it should be sent back or not, I would follow the path you mentioned. Posting to block stock through QA11. Later through MIGO return delivery can be carried out  with 122 movement by opting stock type as block stock.
    3.     Generally later case is more popular may be because of 2 reasons.
    a.     No direct involvement of QA dept for stock reducing movement.
    b.     Reduces the chances for physical and system stock mismatch. (When you carry out 122 through QA11, system stock reduces immediately; but physically it gets moved out may be after a week or two depending upon logistic arrangement for multiple material codes)

  • Swf's/flash,banners When Importing Into Dreamweaver Put Out Slices..

    Hi guys/gals
I think im doing it wrong or missing something, even have a funny feeling i might have to use some css? Not really sure.
My problem is after i have saved my move, banner - when imported into dreamweaver it puts all the slices out of whack ?
I cant find anywhere to import it into my photoshop layout, can't "Bring to front" in dream weaver <- ? :/
I have searched everywhere and I can't find with my terms what im looking for..I figure if nothing is coming up then im going about this
    the wrong way
Any help would be muchly appreciated.

    Hi
Slicing images from a photoshop comp and then creating a web page from them is never a good idea, and will present many compatibility problems for you. A better alternative is to use css based layouts, this does not mean that you must forget what you have done in photoshop just that the procedure is probably slightly more complex for someone who has not used css layouts before,
A good place to start would be the css basics tutorial then the, using css starter pages tutorial from the tutorials shown on this page - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/css.html.
    (the 2 tutorials mentioned are - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/table_to_css_pt1.html, and http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/table_to_css_pt2.html.

  • Exporting an swf as an animated .gif the correct way?

I have read all kinds of posts on this, most are old from back in the early 00's. I have some flash banners that I made that need .gif back ups and I find myself pretty screwed if I can't do this. I tried exporting an .swf thru the publishing settings in Flash and no matter which setting I choose the gifs are pixelated and very bad quality. I just finished reading a post where it said to use the file - export from the menu which I did use and the quality is much better but nothing near acceptable for the client. I also read to export the swf to Quicktime and QT can convert to animated gif so while I look at that option is there someone that can point me in the right direction as this could spell trouble for me if I cannot come up with a solution as I have multiple swfs that need to go through Google analyctics and need the gif back ups.
    thx
    rder

After spending hours losing my hair finding an answer, I found that there is no answer. reality is that Flash (at least CS3) has an export to gif feature but this is a waste as the gifs are horrible quality. Publishing as is no better so that closes the door doing it that way, so on and on I went searching and saw a post that Quicktime can do this, so I publish as a QT file and then export QT file (in QT) as an image sequence. It worked but it delivers each frame so the longer file you have the more frames. Useless to me, so in 2009 as far as I see there is NO WAY you can convert an swf to an animated .gif if you are on a Mac. Go ahead and search for OS X swf to .gif and you will see tons of misleading adds and then when you open each you see they are all .exe files and you know what that means!
So, thank god I have a pc as well and found about 100 apps all kinds from freeware to sharewrae that will convert swfs to animated gifs (IF YOU HAVE A PC)

  • Open swf in new window from parent swf

I'm making a gallery for some flash banners that I had
created in AS3. When I click on a "launch" button, I wanted the
flash banner swf to open in a new window separate from the parent
swf (the gallery). I also wanted the parent swf to remain open.
Is this possible and what would the code look like for
    something like this?

ok, I should've also mentioned this, the flash gallery I'm
making is not for the web, it's more for just opening in a flash
player. So I don't really want it to open in a new browser window,
but rather a new swf window, if there is such a thing.

    Hi,
I´m new to AS3 and try to load/display swf´s on the stage. The swf´s should run and if the user clicks a button the next swf should be displayed.
That works so far if I use some swf´s that are created also with FlashPlayer 9 and AS3. But if I use a swf created by someone else I get a TypeError: Error #1034. So far, I have no idea why this happens. Maybe you can have a look at my code and give me a hint. Thanks in advance.

TypeError: Error #1034: Typumwandlung fehlgeschlagen: flash.display::AVM1Movie@34d4df9 kann nicht in flash.display.MovieClip umgewandelt werden.
        at teaser_fla::MainTimeline/setMovieClip()

The problem will be related to trying to manipulate an AS1/AS2 file using AS3... it cannot be done.  In this case, you are probably just seeing the first of a few errors where you try to manipulate an AS2 object by trying to cast it as an AS3 MovieClip object.  You would run into problems later when you try controlling/reading that same file (currentFrame is not an AS1/AS2 property, but you attempt to extract it).
    Per the Flash Help documentation...
"ActionScript 3.0 code can load a SWF file written in ActionScript 1.0 or 2.0, but it cannot access the SWF file's variables and functions. "
You can implement the LocalConnection class to overcome some of the issues, but if you are using other people's files, you are likely to hit a wall...
"LocalConnection objects created in ActionScript 3.0 can communicate with LocalConnection objects created in ActionScript 1.0 or 2.0.
The reverse is also true: LocalConnection objects created in ActionScript 1.0 or 2.0 can communicate with LocalConnection objects created in ActionScript 3.0. Flash Player handles this communication between LocalConnection objects of different versions automatically."

  • Mac Type in swf not showing up on PC browsers

On some PCs the type in my Flash banners isn't showing up.
Does it have anything to do with the platforms being
    different?

Could be the case when comes to Dynamic text. Regular static
    text automatically has outlines
included into SWF file assuring it will appear properly on
    all end.
Also could be the case with user not having latest player
which in fact sound more likely.

  • Indesign Loses Text Gradient After Export To PDF SWF

I have some Indesign files from a client and everytime I export from indesign to pdf and then convert to a swf, it removes the text gradient and adds black instead. Images attached for reference.
    <---PDF
    <---SWF
I've tried numerous export options. Is there something in particular that I'm supposed to be flattening?
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Hi DesPro_7, Thank you! Your answer was very helpful, and it seems to solve one of my problems, which is the same as what Franklinsdictionary describes.
I have a design using gradients in text, including a gradient effect on a rule below, used as a banner behind my text. I'm losing the gradient when the PDF is converted to SWF, and while we're working on a way to export to SWF directly from InDesign, our current workflow is cropping and optimizing a printer PDF to convert to SWF.
Before InDesign CS5, we had little trouble with transparencies, but this became an issue on our projects using CS5 or above.
Part of the optimizing process includes flattening transparencies, but text with gradients doesn't seem to flatten, nor do my banners created using rule below behind the text.
Any idea why this seems to be an issue with text? Any insight might help!

  • Swf Export problem in indesign

I have made a document in indesign doing a slide show of 4 images in indesign, when I preview or export to swf file the text layer do not show. I am making banners for a web ad. Is there a setting or do you need to flatten to do this.

    Thank you

    Hi All,
I have now pretty much solved all the issues by creating the SWF in Flash rather than Indesign.  I would advise anyone looking to create an interative PDF with animation and interactivity to go with Flash from the start.  While Flash is a little more involved to create the same effects as Indesign, the extra time taken will ensure a more controllable and better looking PDF in terms of text quality, scalability and so on.  Plus you will not spend days trying to get video to work along side imported SWF etc in Indesign.  One of the best controls in Flash is being able to set the stage.scaleMode for the document so the PDF still looks crisp when zooming, no white borders etc.  So, create the .fla, export to .SWF, open the .SWF with Acrobat, modify the advanced settings to enable start on page load and save as a PDF.  If you don't know Flash, I didn't a couple of days ago, watch a couple of tutorials on Youtube.. buttons, tweens, embedding video and you'll be ready.  Don't be put off by ActionScript, there are really handy Code Snippets in CS6 that do all the heavy lifting for you.
    Sorry Indesign!
    Best,
    Em

  • SWF files doesn't show in flash

I converted some videos into swf files. I opened them in flash player and they all look fine,  but when I imported one  in flash and put it in the scene the only thing visible was a small white circle, like the one that appears at the center of the objects when you select them. It couldn't be moved, it could barely be selected  and it doesn't show up when testing the movie.  I don't need to edit the video in flash, I just want to put it together with other elements, something similar to this http://mawichan.deviantart.com/art/Oban-WEB-PAGE-381429374
I have the suspicion that they don't work because they were not originally made in flash, since I have worked with swf files in flash before, but those were banners previously made in flash.
However I would like to hear the opinion and/or advice of someone who knows more  than me, I am still a beginner.
    Thank you.

video files should be played in flash using the flvplayback component (or using the netstream class), not converted to swfs. ie, create a fla, add an flvplayback component to your stage and, in the properties panel, assign the component's source to be your video file.  (use a relative path.)

  • Newbie Flash Banners Help

First I am new to Flash and have mostly worked in PS.
I have created several animated banners in flash.  The file sizes are large.  I am trying to find a what is the best format and settings to use export these for upload into an website affiliate program (CJ).
I also want to know if I should have taken all of the media from PS and "saved for web" and stripped them down before I imported them to flash.  I was hoping that there was a setting in Flash that would do that but I am not sure if there is one.   The files for web banners are supposed to very small.  I am just trying to understand how I should have created them and also how to publish them.   I converted all of the images symbols thinking that would help. That did not.
Currently if I publish a gif they look horrible.  I know I doing something wrong, but I just direction. They look great in flash but I am stuck.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    http://swf-head.blogspot.com/2009/09/flash-optimization-performance-vs-file.html
You should save for web out of PS. If they need transparency, use png. If they are simply rectangles, use jpgs (about 65 - 70% out of PS). Then in flash, in the library right click on your jpg and hit Properties, uncheck "Use Imported Bitmap Data" and change that percentage to what ever you like - the higher the number the larger file size, the lower number the worse quality.
Text in flash looks much better. Keep in mind that fonts can carry extra weight.
Ned and KGlad are also right, make the images the correct size out of PS first.
There is a lot that goes into optimization, read the link above, its only part of optimizing - the images part.

  • SWF animation is not showing up in IE8

    I have test page : http://drupal-windwater/windWaterWidget
With two flash banners which are clickable . On click they open bigger window with additional swf animation inside. In any case, neither small or expanded animation is showing up in IE8.
It works perfect in all other browsers and even IE9.
Using suggestions from these places didn't seam helping.

    Please advise

The link you provided for the test page fails.
Browser issues normally result from embedding code issues.  Did you let Flash publish the html for the swf's... if not, give it a try.

  • HELP - URGENT - SWFs

    Hi all,
Have recently just bought a new Macbook Pro 15 incher after finally decidng to take the change from a pc! I can safely safe with only a weeks use under my belt i will be forever happy using it, however, i have transfered alot of SWF files from my Pc to the Mac and when clicked to view they dont play like on a pc....?! I need to be able able to do this becuase alot of my design work is flash based (banners etc) and i need to show clients.
I can open them up in a browser (safari/firefox) and i have also downloaded a swf player plugin but both of these play the swf and everything outside of the flash movie can be seen and they either play too large or too small. Is there anyway or any software out there that will play the swf at the correct size and without showing outside the designed size just like playing a swf on a pc?
I have yet to purchase CS3/4 but when i do do you think having Flash will prevent this from happening?
    Many thanks
    Matt

Perian is a great application that extends the number of files quicktime can play, including flash. It is not necessary, but i use it all the time, and dont even notice its there.
