SWF file opens in safari / firefox but not IE

Hi.
I was wondering if someone could help me.  I'm working on a flash project that people can download from the internet and use or just use on the internet.  I'm have a problem with one of the links however.  Its a button that is to link to a excel file,  at the minute the following code works in safari and forefox, it opens the file pefect in a separate window, but in IE it opens on the same window.  does anyone no what the problem could be?  The code i'm using is
on (release) {
getURL("../docs/OIA.xls", _blank);

I can't say if this will fix it, but you can try putting quotation marks around "_blank"... it is a String argument so it should be quoted just like the URL is.

  • Swf files appearing in preview (D8) but not n browser after uploading - frustrated!

    Hello,
I have worked with Flash and Dreamweaver on the side for a
number of years. We all know that after the recent changes, the way
it handles object and embed tags has changed to favor Java
    actionscripts instead.
This code I am about to paste was created using Dreamweaver
8.02, with transitional (x) html. Now mind you, this is not the
prettiest piece of code you've ever seen. I now am learning to use
CSS layouts instead of layers/tables, with php and flash
integrated. This one example is not the only time I have had this
    problem however.
I made a silly flash banner (its actually a placeholder for a
better one I have to develop) for testing purposes and sizing. It
appears fine in Firefox, and IE6 in the preview mode via
Dreamweaver. When I upload it all to the site, the flash banner
    does not appear.
I have tried copying the FLA and SWF files to the root folder
(the fla, swf, and html files generated are all present), and tried
a number of variations in the code and parameters to no avail. The
darn thing just won't appear now. Similarly older pages I have
created that Dreamweaver now prompts you to "fix the object tag
that may not work in IE7...etc" have the same issue. If I select
"go ahead and fix them for me", they are visible in production, but
    gone after uploading.
Now to remove the possibility that this was a layering or
parent tag issue of visibility, I created a blank HTML page and
"insert/media/flash" and stuck the banner in there, then uploaded
it to my server. It doesn't appear.
I need help. I have been scouring the web for a few days now
to no avail and have become quite frustrated with what used to be a
really easy integration of Flash and html.
Here is the top chunk of code from the page in question: (the
page is live with the missing banner here:

  • Audio plays fine in safari, firefox, but not one an iphone, how do I...

succesfully create the correct plugin, mime type, class, whatever to get this to work on all formats?
Is my encoding wrong, help I'm a newbie!
I've tried: mp3 and m4v files, plugin: swf, quicktime and various combinations of plugins and media types.
Like I said works fine in Safari on a mac but not in safari on an Iphone
    newbie help!
    thanks

All you can do is hide them. On the Not On This iPhone page, swipe from left to right on the offensive App and Hide will appear - tap it.

  • CR2 files open from one camera, but not the other in CS2

Running Mac with CS2. My camera raw files shot with my lovely Canon 5D open and can be viewed in bridge and in photoshop, but NOT the camera raw from my brand new Canon powershot G9. They are both producing CR2 files. I can see the images in the bridge browser window, but when I double click to open I get a dialogue box that says, "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." I have the 3.7 plug in installed. Please, some god or goddess of photoshop out there, show me the error of my ways!

    Walt,
I will answer your questions to the best of my ability. But hopefully others who are better at this than I am will offer their help as well. So, here goes.
    1. Everyone has their preferred method of using Bridge. In the Photoshop preferences I have not checked the box to have bridge start automatically. Although I use Bridge most of the time, there are occasions when I don't want to use it. So I prefer to start my Photoshop session by starting Bridge first, and then double-click on an image in Bridge to have it opened in Photoshop. In the Bridge preferences, I have checked the "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge", and I like working that way.
    2. I have seen several people comment about having this problem. And occasionally it will develop after you have been using Bridge/Photoshop for a while. The only thing I can suggest is for you to hold down the Ctrl key while you start Bridge. A dialogue will appear that will allow you to reset your preferences. There are three options and you should choose all three. I know, you haven't had it installed very long, but this "could" be the problem. One guy I talked with said that he had to do it several times before it fixed the problem.
    3. You indicated that you downloaded Camera Raw 4(5). What does that mean? Did you download version 4.5, which is the latest version? And, did you follow the installation instructions that were on the download page? The new plug-in must be put in the exact directory specified, replacing the old version that is already there. The old version cannot be put in a sub folder. You might as well get rid of it. You don't need it anymore. And, again, it has to go into the specific folder designated in the instructions. After you have done that, in Photoshop goto Help/About Plug-ins and click on Camera Raw. It should only be listed once, and when you click on it you should get a dialogue that will tell you what version you have installed.
    4. After I installed CS3, when I inserted a card into my card reader I was presented with the normal Windows options. One of the options I was given was to download using Bridge. I chose that option and indicated to always use that option. I haven't had any problems with it since. But if that option isn't there, you can open Bridge and click on the File menu. There is an option to download images from your camera. It has worked well for me.

  • Why does embeded .swf file goes crazy in IE but not in other browsers?

    hi everyone
I'm building a SharePoint page with an embedded .swf file that is capable of detecting the current URL to activate and show content. Everything goes smoothly in all the browsers I've tested it except IE. When I open the SharePoint page in IE the .swf just reproduces the frames non stop, It completely ignores my scripts and I cant find anything that could be responsible of this. besides the url detection script, i just have simple button configuration for the timeline and general stops.
    any idea?.....anyone?

Normally when swf's play differently for different browsers it is due to the embedding code used in the html page.

  • SWF Files open in OS X but won't open in Windows

Hey everyone. I'm a bit of a novice to Flash so please play
nice. Anyway, I have a .swf file that I created in Flash CS4 and it
plays great in OS X. It's actually a video controlled by a media
controller (my publish setting are for player 8.0). When I boot to
Windows XP and try to open the file using several different stand
alone players (8,9,10) I only see a white background and no movie.
Does anyone have a suggestion for me? I'm goin' crazy.
    Thanks,
    Solan

    response.setContentType("text/html;charset=UNICODE");
    response.setHeader("Cache-Control","public");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\"" + fds.getName() + "\"");
    is = fds.getInputStream();
in firefox its asking the path where to download the csv format file.
But in IE one pop-up is opened and it says "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options.." after clicking the download options its not downloading...
    Any inputs highly appreciate..
    Thanks

Can you get the file to download in IE under any circumstances? If not, are you sure it's not the browser's security settings stopping you? Have you tried explicitly allowing downloads from your site in the client browser? What exactly happens when you try to download in IE?

  • Web layout displays fine in Safari, Firefox but not in IE6

    HI there
Am new to this forum and really hope you can help. I have
designed a website for someone integrating various flash files into
    dreamweaver 2004 MX.
Each flash file represents, top nav bar, side nav bar, right
nav bar, title of body, and body of page.
I am using server side includes for each flash file such that
each nav bar etc has its own html doc.
I have used relative positioning in order that the website be
    centered on the page.
    My problem is this:
I am using Dreamweaver on Parallels VM on my intel Mac and
therefore check the layout on Safari and Firefox.
When trying to position each layer on dreamweaver such that
they viewed correctly on those browsers they had to be positioned
such that looked 'skewed' on the dreamweaver preview. In other
words the left nav bar would appear to be much lower down compared
to the top nav bar; the right nav bar was even lower on the page,
about half way down; and the title and body layers were 'pushed' to
    the bottom.
The thing is i had to position it this way so that it would
look fine on safari and firefox - -otherwise the layers would
overlap or be way out place.
The only way to see this for yourself is to look at the
website on IE6. ON IE6 it looks exactly as it does on dreamweaver
preview. however, on IE7, Safari and Firefox it looks as how i want
    it to look.
So just to recap on my ramblings: Website layers look out of
position on Dreamweaver preview and IE6, but look fine on other
    browsers.
Does anyone know why this is happening?

    HI Murray.
You dont really seemed to have tried to answer my question
and you seem to be a little misinformed about flash these days.
please read the following for example:
    http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/06/improved-flash-indexing.html
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/swf_searchability.html
Ok, this is just for google, but Yahoo is very soon to follow
    suit.

This is a guaranteed no-show in search engine indexes, you
    know? Not only
can they not index your site, they cannot read any of its
    contents. And as
    for accessability, forget it.
Are you sure you want to continue on this non best-practice
    road?

  • Spry Collapsible panel works in Safari, Firefox but not in IE 7 and 8

Revising a page and wish to have the Spry Collapsible Panel load "closed". Never used Spry before but is works ok as mentioned but when page is opened in IE the panel is open and stays open. Clicking does not close it.
The panel tab reads "CLICK To See Matched Rail & Stile Set-Up Blocks".
Did I mention I am not a programmer? Thanks for the help.

    Jon,
Not a good way to start. You need to have some basic skills to work on websites. OK, if you want to build a bridge for your toy cars to cross a model railway line, you could probably cope, but to build a bridge in the real world, you need  real knowledge.
Having said that, I have pulled all of the relevant code from your page to re-construct the collapsible panel and, although the markup would not be the one I would have gone for, the widget works in all browsers, see the code below. This means that the problem lies elsewhere.

  • Images Viewable in Firefox But Not In Explorer, Safari, Chrome.

I have a coldfusion page with images. The images are called up dynamically from my Mysql database. The image field with my database has the datatype "char(100)". All that is stored in that database field is the file path to the folder of which the image is stored which is: \photos\RSL\1.jpg.
On my webpage, the image placeholder looks like this:
    <a href="#Unit_Info.comphoto1#"><img src="#Unit_Info.comphoto1#" alt="" name="1" width="98" height="73" /></a>
This images display just fine on Firefox, But Not In Explorer, Safari, & Chrome. These latter three just show a broken image. Could there be something wrong with either my coldfuson or Mysql file path where each of the letter three browsers are trying to access?
I'm running Coldfusion 9 on my local machine, using OS Window 7 Professional.

When I hard coded the file path it worked. I checked the source code and saw no white space. I even went to each browser's options dialog box to make sure that the show image options were checked. It may be my coding. In my image folder there are categories  of other folders within folders that have images of which Coldfusion calls up whenever the browser needs it. Could that be the problem? Should I have all of my 300 images in one folder?

First thing I'd try would be to hard code the expected value and see if that works.  If it does, I'd look at the html source code from the problematic browsers and see if there is any unexpected white space.

  • Published module (.swf) will play in Firefox but not IE

    Please help…
Does anyone know why a .swf file would play fine in Mozilla Firefox, but not load at all in Internet Explorer?   I have six of these that I’ve uploaded to our intranet production server (where they should work fine).  They all play fine in Firefox.  In IE I get a blank screen that just hangs forever.  I don't even get the loading screen (which plays correctly in Firefox.) They are published with Captivate 4 for Flash 8.  I am using IE 7 with Flash 10 on Windows XP to try to play them.  I’ve Googled the problem and searched the Captivate forums and can’t find anything on this.
This is a major problem for us, as our company standard is IE and these training modules are intended for all staff.   We were hoping to roll them out to all staff next week.  Could this be something that is local to my machine (which is new)?   If so, how do we troubleshoot it to make sure it won’t happen to other users in the field when we roll this training out?
The modules play in IE fine from my local hard drive.   I've also modified my IE and Flash settings to list the sites as trusted sites and always allow content.
I've got to get this figured out ASAP... any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

    IE - I have version 10,1,102,64 installed
    Firefox - I have version 10,1,85,3 installed
I followed two sets of instructions. One related to the putting FakeFlash.exe in the ExecutablePublish folder. However, that didn't fix the problem I was experiencing. Then I Followed instructions from:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2010/11/solution-for-cp5-content-not-working-with-the-lat est-flash-player-version.html
which told me to replace the  CPAnimationUtils.dll file in the installations folder.
    This did correct my problem.

When uploading videos to iWeb, the video screen gets cut off at the top. It only happens in Firefox, but not in Safari. Has anybody else had this problem?

I'm using pure HTML5 for mobile websites although you need to provide an OGG file for Firefox. See the movie page on this site...
    http://mobile.ezmacwebdesign.com/
If you don't have an iPhone, grab the browser handle and drag it to the left to reduce the width to see how it responds to mobile devices' fixed width browsers .
This will play in all modern browsers and on mobile devices. You can use QuickTime Pro for the OGG or OGV conversion or get the freeware Miro Video Converter...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Easy-Movie-Player.html
If you only want to upload an MP4, you can use a flash fallback player and this will cover Firefox and those geriatrics that still use older versions of Internet Explorer....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Flow-Player.html
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/Fallback-To-Flash.html
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Movie-Video/JW-Media-Player.html
If you use any of the four fallback players above, take advantage of the fact that you can add a poster image and stop the video file from preloading. This makes for a faster page download time.
You can also achieve this using HTML5 by adding preload="none" and poster="URL to the poster image" into the code shown on this page...
