Swfs don't run locally

I've created a master Captivate file that calls on multiple
swf files, together creating a demonstration that runs 18 chapters
of content. I have embedded the published captivate movie in an
html page. The movie is set in an html page so our customers can
brand the movie with their logo. The Captivate movie embedded in
the html page works perfectly when uploaded to a web server,
however when run locally the swfs don't show up. What does play is
the master file with the music and the images however all swf files
within the movie don't show up.
Is there any way I can get this to work without having our
customers change preferences on their computers or have to upload
the files to a web server?
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
ab33

In general it sounds like you are describing a Flash Player
Security issue. Best practice is that the user should have to trust
the file (be it on a CD/DVD or hard drive). You could, I suppose,
check with Javascript if the flash files load, and if not provide
directions on changing the player settings - however, this assumes
that the user has the permissions on the local machine to change
the settings.
Shortly after the Flash 8.0 Player release (when many of us
wanted to get the Flash development team in a dark alley for the
web-based configuration manager) I worked with a developer who
wrote a script that enumerated all of the drives on a machine and
placed a trust file in the user's Application Data folder that
trusted all of the drives. This worked, even when the user did not
have the privileges that were needed at the time to trust local
drives, though I would not recommend a similar approach.
Sorry, I digressed... in summary, it sounds like your user's
need to trust the drive or folder that the content is running in.
Perhaps distribute a help file that explains how to do this with
the package.

  • Problems running local swf files

I recently developed problems running local swf files in
Internet Explorer. This was working previously but recently it
stopped working. Any ideas why the local files no longer work and
    how I can correct it?

Hi Aquasue and welcome to our community
In addition to the usual suspect fellow Adobe Community
Expert Steve pointed out, the Flash player itself may be to blame.
If you recently upgraded to the latest version (8 I believe) it
imposes security particularly when using .SWFs locally.

  • Is running local Java applets disabled in Safari 6?

Ever since updating to Mountain Lion—and Safari 6—locally stored Java applets don't work any more. A quick test in JavaScript:
    navigator.javaEnabled();
returns FALSE if the page is on the file server, and TRUE if the exact same page comes from a web server. Unfortunately these pages can't be delivered over a web server, they have to run from a file server.
Anyone know how to get applets to run locally in Safari? I've opened up Gatekeeper to run all apps and poked around the Java settings to no luck. I don't even get a "Inactive Plug-in" message, just...nothing. Am running both the Apple JRE6 as well as the most recent Oracle version 7u7.
    Cheers

Java is locked down SO tightly now. I had local Java applets that ran fine in Firefox but wouldn't run in Safari. My friend did a little troubleshooting with me and figured this out:
    1) In Safari > Preferences > Advanced, check "Show Develop menu in menu bar"
    2) In Safari > Develop, select "Disable Local File Restriction"
    Hope this helps!

  • Flash not appearing when run locally

Hi,  I am having a weird issue with a user. He cannot display a swf when run locally on his machine in a browser. If he goes online he sees the movies fine. To test I sent him a movie with just an image in it and published to html. I double click the html page and can see the movie and image fine. He does the same on his machine and gets nothing just a blank page. Problem is we have an java app that runs local (using port 8000) and opens separate movies in new windows that he can never see.
    Thanks in advance,
    P.

It sounds like you are having a file trust problem. To resolve that, you have to trust this file from the Flash Global Settings Manager.
    Go  there: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.htm l
Add a path to the local file, restart browser and try again.

  • GPO don't run specified windows applications doesn't work to in win 8.1. any ideas why?

GPO "don't run specified windows applications" doesn't work to in win 8.1. any ideas why?  it is enabled and list of progs is entered however I can still run all progs on list.  This is a local machine not on a domain.  I must
have this work to disable games, IE, MSpaint, etc.  Computer has been restarted since enabling the GPO and also have enforced the GPO via CMD prompt.  worked fine on windows 8 and 7.

    Any success ?

  • SWF works on any local computer but not on website

    Hi Guys
I have developed a website using flash and xml. My export folder containts my swf file, html files nad xml config files (plus a numebr of images etc). The export fodler does not have any .fla files etc.
When running the site locally all works perfecctly, but when trying to run off the web there is text corruption and layout problems. I obviously though it was a pthing issue - so I sent the export folder to a friend (exactly the same contents as what is loaded on the site) and he can laucnh and view the site perfectly - so its not a pathing issue as far as I can see.
WOuld there be a reason why text is not visible when viewing off the web (but you can click here the text shoudl be - highlight then it suddenly appears). Also where text is located ont he design it has become double sapced ont he web version but not when running locally. I have checked all the permissions to 777 incase of an issue there.
If it was a pathing issue - why would it work on various other computers when senidng just the export folder (which contains no sub folders at all) it can't be taking anything fromt he root or parent folder as it wouldnt work on the other local machines it has been tested on?
Please let me know if anyone has any ideas as its really frustrating. I have folowed the logic of sending the output folder to other computers and it works perfectly (remember no subfolders or parent folders so its only looking for local files within the folder)....weird!?
    Thanks

Thanks I will try and contact the hosting company now to find out - I am using Heart Internet: here is a sample of my xml file....thanks so much for replying :-) I thought it might be to do with server environment as wokring perfectly on multiple local computers etc....

Not too sure about what you mentioned regarding CDATA....but it appears in the xml below (I bought template and then just edited the text to change so didnt actually rite the code so please excuse my lack of technical knowledge- I am trying lol

  • I want to save and load the swf-file to a local disk of any user. Possible?

Hi, It's good to see you.
    I am a developer in Web Flash Game.( I use AS3.0 )
I want to save and load the swf-file to a local disk of any user,
Because I want to decrease the time for loading a flash movie from site.
    Is it possible?
If it is possible, I hope the swf-file has only one loading from site and
it will be loaded from a local disk of any user after that.
(I know a concept of Internet temporary file.
I want to know the other techniques of only using AS3.0.)

    Hi,
I have similar problem. We are producing a 70 meg browser based game and would like the user to be able to cache the game to avoid reloading the game the next time. Can this be done if the user authorise the save? If, so how? We don't care where the game is cached .
Can we prompt the user to download the file by providing a link from within the SWF application?

  • Running `locale-gen` closes ssh session

I am trying to regenerate locales on a remote server running Archlinux. However, running `locale-gen` disconnects me, and I do not believe the job completes. I had the same problem on both Putty and the terminal (ssh from local box).
The locales that are uncommented are `en_US.UTF-8` and `en_US`. However, this problem only occurs if en_US.UTF-8 is uncommented. There is no problem when I am only generating the `en_US` locale.
This happens whether or not I have root privileges.
Does anyone have an idea as to why this happens? Thanks for any help!

The remote system could be using the locale you are trying to regenerate. I don't know exactly why it kicks you, my best guess is that you're session is running that locale and regenerating kind of restarts the whole session thing. MY BEST GUESS.
You could setup a bash script, with some delay.
    sleep 40
    locale-gen >> check.txt
and login after 1 min and check  the check.txt file for the locale-gen output command to see if everything went fine.

I've seem web sites that have embedded VIs that seem to run on the client rather than the server (an  example at CNX). I've used the web publishing tool to embed VIs but I can't seem to figure out how to achieve the client-side effect. Does anyone know?

Ahhh, so you want to do what Connexions has done... here's what it looks like:
They've basically built a LabVIEW exe and linked it on the web.  To run a LabVIEW-built exe in general, you need the LabVIEW Runtime Engine, which they seem to be calling Connexions LabVIEW Browser Plug-in in the document I linked above.  The ini file they have you sticking in your My Documents\LabVIEW Data folder turns on the "run locally" feature so it runs on the client side.  The rest basically comes down to the following HTML source on the (you should be able to view this from your browser as well):

I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone? (the check marks are not bolded, does this mean they are not in my library but only on my phone?)

You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone.

  • Applets which don't run

    Hello,
I have any applets which run with Appletviewer or the development tool "Forte for Java" but they don't run on the web browser whereas I have others applets (with almost the same code) which run in the both cases.
In fact, on the web browser, you can see the static components (buttons, choices...) but these ones have no effects.
And, the access to the database seems not to run.
I think it's an problem which doesn't come from the code but I don't know what.
    Can you help me ?
    Thank you.

Browsers have in-built support for JDK 1.1 If you are using packages not suported by JDK1.1 for example Swing, the applets won't work without downloading a plugin. The first thing you should do is check if you are using packages not suported by the JDK1.1 Also check if your browser does use a plugin.
You can download the plugin from this site:
    http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html
When you are downloading the plugin you can specify that it is used by your browser by default. This means that you do not have to modify your HTML file.
The following is relevant if you intend to put your applet up on the web:
The user may not have their browser set up to automatically use a plugin. This means that you may need to convert your HTML file so that the plugin is used to run the applet and it works corrrectly for different browsers. Also if the user does not have the correct plugin your web page prompts them to download it.
This site explains how the HTML code is modified:
    http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.2/docs/tags.html
There is a way to do this conversion process automatically - by using the HTMLConverter in the bin directory of your JDK. The following site gives directions on how to use it:
    http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/docs/htmlconv_01.html
If you are putting the applet up on the web maybe you should consider rewriting it so that it only uses packages supported by the JDK1.1 That way the user will automatically be able to view the applet without downloading any plugin and you will not need to convert the HTML file.
    I hope this helps,
    RC
