Swiping in Safari just "bounces"

This is just driving me crazy.
Installed Lion and all seemed well.
I have a MPB 2008 with a Magic Mouse.
When I am browsing in Safari (and anywhere else for that matter), if I scroll down and move just a little bit to the right or left then the page "giggles" back and forth and bounces on the edge of the screen. Extremely annoying. If I go to Mouse Preferences and turn off gestures, I STILL get the behaviour. If I go to UA, fourth tab "Mouse and Trackpad" and click on Mouse Options and deselect "scrolling" then I don't bounce around, but I can no longer use the MM to scroll.
Can anyone help me?
Please!

I set the Scrolling option to "without inertia", but I'm not sure that it has solved the problem I have.  If I spread my fingers just a little bit while scrolling, the contents of the window, especially in Safari, expand, and then a mouse click is not recognized.  I have to jiggle the the contents just a bit to get it to a size where the mouse click is recognized.

  • No Safari just bouncing icon

Hi there- below is a copy and paste from a previous user (in italics):
+I accidentally installed Safari 3.1 on my G4 10.3.9. Somehow I was confused and thought that it would run on my OS.+
    Wrong.
    +Problems caused:+
+Various programme's did not run, like, of course, Safari.+
    Solution:
    +1) Download Pacifist http://www.charlessoft.com/+
    +2) Download the Safari.pkg 1.2 and 1.3.1 versions+
+3) Run Pacifist: first install 1.2 followed by 'repair disk permissions' in disk utility+
    +4) restart+
+5) run Pacifist, install via Pacifist safari.pkg 1.3.1.+
    +Now the follwing is IMPORTANT+
+6) After installing Safari.pkg 1.2 I got the message that 1.3.1 was already installed which was NOT the case since I checked APPLE-key-'I' Safari and it said 1.2. I guess, but I am not a specialist, that this has caused the problem. Old files cause 'erratic' behavior.+
+Pacifist asks if you want to replace the Safari 1.3.1 files which are already in place. At this point you should enter 'YES'. It will install the correct 1.3.1 files.+
+7) after this, restart the computer, repeat the 'repair disk permissions' procedure in disk utility.+
+In my case it worked and all other programme's work again.+
I did all the above (several times) but still no luck. I tried Firefox but yet again bouncing icon. When I look at the version of Safari installed, it says 1.3.1 but won't run.
Stupid question- when running "repair disk permissions" do I select the hard drive in the lefthand pane?
    Any further suggestions?

You probably would be better off at this point with an Archive & Install. it is relatively painless and will give you a fresh OS. It would also be a good idea to back up your data first to an external hard drive. Here's how to Repair Permissions.

  • Safari just bounces a few times and that's it

I reinstalled OSX and iLife 05. Now Safari won't work. Any help???

    Hi jnjeast,
Idiot question here - can you please spell out exactly how I can trash the plist? ie, start up the computer in single mode and type "xyz". Also, I went into preferences and added a new user, now how do I tell the computer to USE the new user?
In order to trash the preference list, quit Safari and navigate to '~/Library/Preferences/' (where '~' refers to the folder with your username and a 'house' as its icon) in Finder, then drag the file, com.apple.Safari.plist, to the trash.
In order to use the new user account, first log out of your current user account by clicking on the apple icon in the top left corner of your screen and selecting the last item, and clicking on the 'Log Out' button in the following dialog.
You should then be presented with a login screen, prompting you to select a user and entering a password. Simply select the new user and enter the password specified to log in.
    Hope that helps!

  • Help - Safari won't open it just bounces, installed Java 2012-04 but java preferences is not picking it up

I''m new to the MacBook, I've got a late 2007 model running Lion 10.7.  I installed iLife and removed some junk (software installed from previous user that was not properly licensed) then tried to open Safari.  The icon just bounced and I got the error Safari quit unexpectedly.  I downloaded the new Java that should fix the Flashback Malware issue (I did this because in the log it stated that garbage collection was turned off) onto my thumb drive, installed it on the Mac, opened Java Preferences and it only lists the 32 and 64 bit Java SE6.  So now what???

Right or control click the Safari app in the Applications folder then click Get Info.
For Version. If you see 5.1.6 or 5.1.7 updating to Safari 6 may help. Apple has not posted a standalone Safari 6 intaller but there is a workaround.
Click here >  Safari Quits Every Time Opened: Apple Support Communities
Then click the link posted by:  gregoryfromcork
That will automatically download this file >  Safari6Lion.pkg.download
    Now quit Safari.
Go to your Downloads folder and double click that file and follow the instructions for installing.
Then restart your Mac, try Safari.

    Hello, what OSX version?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • After  Yosemite apple apps ( appstore, safari, terminal, etc) won't launch, just bounces once.

I have a MBP Retina mid 2012. Since I've installed Yosemite, safari, Calendar and app store ( and others ) stopped launching. also apps as "terminal" and "about this mac", they just bounces once and never opens. Since I cant open app store I wont ever be able to download any updates.
    Somebody HELP ME PLEASE!

You probably ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below. If you use any iWork applications, you may need to delete them and redownload them from the App Store.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Safari icon bounces but doesn't open

Almost exactly a year ago, the Safari icon on my doc stopped opening. It bounces once or twice but I can't access Safari at all. The same has happened to the Mac Mail icon and a few others that were on the dock. I recall seeing something that looked like a little expoding cloud and hearing a "bang" and the app either disappeared from the dock completely or it just bounces but won't open. It happens so quickly that sometimes I don't know what I've lost. (Nothing appears in the trash, btw.)I checked the logs and here are just the first several lines of what is a very lengthy list of things in the log.
I hope someone might be able to decipher what went wrong and how to fix it.

  • My safari just wont load, everything else works so connection ok

    Hi
My Safari on my imac wont load up at all it just bounces on the bar then nothing, itunes and email work fine so connection is good...........??

Make sure the Safari app is in the Applications folder.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab. Deselect: Enable plug ins Quit then relaunch Safari. If Safari loads pages, troubleshooting help here. Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit, relaunch Safari.
Check for Login Items:  Open System Preferences/Accounts then select the Login Items tab. Delete any files or apps you have listed there. And go to /Library/Startup Items. Move any files in the Startup Items folder to the Trash.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
Try Safari in another user account. Same problems there, then log back into your admin account, launch Disk Utility.  /Applications/Utillities.
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions). If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • I updated and now safari just wont start!

    so heres the deal:
    ibook 1ghz 14", 512 ram, 30gb, X 10.3.9.
So I updated to the latest security update, and now safari wont start - the icon just bounces once in the dok and dissapears.
I tried resetting the application bit using the chmod command, but to no avail.
So i redownloaded the 1.2 update, with no sucess.
I deleted safari (doh!) and tried to install from safari 1.0, but apparently that is not possible to install under my version of os x.
Im really reaching the end of my tether now - all my bookmarks etc are in safari - and whilst I can use the other multitude of browsers on my system Id rather be on safari (excuse the pun).
    Please please please help me!!!
Edit: Just tried to use software update, and that wont launch either :S
Edit: just found a related article after looking around the boards - please forgive me for not looking hard enough initially.
And for anyone having the same problem, check out: Saxman, "Post Security Update: NO Safari, Mail, Sftw Update, ...", 02:24am Aug 17, 2005 CDT
Edit: Well I tried the steps outlined in the above link - with no luck.
So I guess im still stuck & on checking them Im afraid to say that many of my apps wont launch, mail, safari, limewire, Software update to name but a few...
    any thoughts?
Edit: Well I guess I just didnt pay enough attention to the advice in the post linked above.
Where the instruction tells you to remove the webkit from within the system folder's library I was actually removing it from the global library on the root of the hard drive! :P
Ah well, all is fixed now - and infact my ibook seems to be running faster, and safari is definately running faster now
    Tally Ho!

It's not only Safari, it's every programm! The function is called "Resume" and will launch back the applications in the same way as you leaved them.
You can change it back in
System Preferences > General > Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps

  • After Effects just bounces in the dock but wont start

    Hi all,
Just installed CS4 production studio under Snow Leopard.  All works well and updated using the Adobe Updater.  All apps are fine except AE which just bounces in the dock a few times and then stops.  I read that this could be because Rosetta was not installed.  I installed Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD and still nothing.  Have restarted 3 times just in case (I also read that several restarts may be required to get it to work), but still nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Dave

OK... Now I feel like Scott of the Antartic writing in his journal before the inevitable... I am writing this purely to help anyone else with the same issue to resolve it without the pain that I am still experiencing.  Hopefully the last entry will read "all solved" and not "I am about to pop outside... I may be some time..."
After using CS2 for the bulk of my work I thought I'd try and get this solved once and for all, especially as we have a DVCPROHD project coming up and need CS4 to do it.
OK... The so now I have the suite running, except Premiere is running under at trial without the presets and the updates fail when installing.  Contacted support this week, they wont re-open the original case because it has been over a month.  Fair enough, new case.
The adobe guy takes control of my machine, deactivates it, then from Finder deletes lots of folders.  He then asks me to re-install the products.  I do this (2 hours later) and run Premiere and it appears to work with presets.  I look a bit closer and notice that under the help menu of Premiere Register, Deactivate and Updates are all greyed out.  This is not the case in the other products of the suite.  OK, so not a major deal but does imply something is not installed right.  I run the Adobe Updater, Premiere updates, but AE, PS and several updates fail.
Call back to support.  This time the Adobe guy takes control of my machine suggests I deactivate the suite, run the un-install and then download and run the CS3 Clean script and re-install.  I do all this.  Another 2 hours later feeding discs into the machine... and... Premiere looks fine, presets all there... but wait for it... AFTER EFFECTS JUST BOUNCES IN THE DOCK BUT WONT START.
3rd call back to support and ask for the issue to be escalated.  This is difficult and I have to cause a fuss to realise that this problem is the same one that has been hanging around for months and that I am not prepared to spend more hours removing every trace of Adobe from my machine and re-installing - this doesn't work.  The support technician asks me to delete a hidden folder that has all the Adobe patches in it, manually download the AE 9.0.2 update and install it.   It installs but AE wont start.  I explain that I've had enough and want the problem escalated.
I finally get a call back from a 2nd level engineer this morning.  After explaining the that AE wont start and then answering the question "why is this a problem for you!" we do some quick troubleshooting.  This time I have to pull out the network cable, turn off Airport, create a new user account, log on to it and then see if AE runs.  Which it does.  Within seconds we get launched into the pre-determined script, "if it runs under another user account then there is nothing wrong with the applications and I should call Apple".  After being patronised for a further 5 mins I had to PROVE to the guy that it was also possible that the fault was Adobes.  I also know the moment I phone Apple, the response will be "Call Adobe".
The only example I could give him at the time was to image a piece of software I had written that allocated memory based on the screen resolution (this is a user preference) and if my code was badly written and crashed when encountering a screen resolution bigger than my code was expecting.  OK, is that Apple's fault, no it is my code.  Will it run under one user and not another, yes it will.  There are a million other posibilities.  Some I agree could be Apple's, but equally some could be Adobes and the big fat fob off as soon as you can is terrible.
I have also since realised since leaving this call with the technician, that:
    1) This is a brand new iMac and the Adobe Suite was the 1st piece of 3rd party software installed on it.
    2) The iMac is for video editing and nothing else.
    3) This was working without presets before the Adobe guys deleted all these files and asked me to re-install.  It is more likely that they have deleted something they should not have rather than the a bug in the OS.  A bug in the OS is still possible but I suspect the problem is with a rogue bit of installation code from Adobe.
Finally incase anyone from Adobe is reading this:
I have paid thousands of pounds for this software.
I have been unable to use it for months.
A problem like this should be gold dust for you.  Here is the chance to get to the bottom of an issue that several people are having, understand the mechanics of what is going wrong.  Write a KB article as well as a patch and this would save the time/money and effort of an awful lot of people (including your own).
As a short thought experiment I would like everyone at Adobe to image the following:
You pay £1,000 of your own money for a tool to do your work on the promise that you can make this money back in productivity gains, new business, etc.
The tool you use every day to make a living won't work.  For the benefit of the experiment, imagine this is your email client, web browser or case management tool.
You have no IT group to replace your machine or to come and solve it.
You can't tell your customers that your software is down and you have to keep doing your job.
You have to spend an additional 3 days in your own time, working late or weekends to try and fix the software yourself.
You to keep downloading a Gigabyte of data 3 or four times and you have to pay for downloads.  Currently you are running up a bill of over £100 in downloads and phone calls.
You don't get paid the overtime and your customers start complaining you are late with your work.
You lose customers... you eventually get fired because you have lost too many of them.
...This is what it feels like for a small creative business to not be able to install the software they bought.

  • Updated application just bounces in the dock

After updating 3 applications, each of them no longer launches, and instead just bounces in the dock. Force quitting does nothing initially, until eventually the app quits. The applications are not connected. They are: 1Password, Garagesale, and Audio Hijack Pro. Each one exhibits the same behaviour, and each one works just fine once I replace it with the previous version.
The only clue I can provide as to what might be going on is a log file message, which is the same for all 3:
    Launchd peruser 504 - posix_spawn("/Applications/nameofapp.app/Contents/MacOS/nameofapp", ...): Operation not permitted
I've cleared the cache files, restarted, etc. Any ideas what might be causing this?
